if you want to clear space, remove the European qualifying clubs from the League Cup. Problem solved. Then the big boys can enjoy their start to the season without fixture congestion. It means a new winner of the competition every year (feels like it's only been won by Man City or Liverpool lately) and it means that the League One/Two sides will still get to go to some big grounds! Stamford Bridge, Spurs' Stadium, Stadium of Light, Hillsborough etc would've been stadiums to go to this season.
It will also make the FA Cup more sacrosanct.

    • @Soccerates
      @Soccerates Před měsícem

If these "big clubs" have players' welfare in mind, then a) stop going off to play friendlies three days after the season ends on the opposite side of the world, b) use their bloated squads properly and stop loaning out a dozen players a season for financial gain.
It also misses the main point, which is lower league clubs playing EFL teams can be huge for them as well as well for a League 1/2 side. Exposure, local businesses, they all get that uplift. The intrigue, the spectacle, the throwback to a bygone era, the plucky underdog stories. The dreams of a non League player making a name for themselves, etching their name in the history books for a brief moment.
However, i dont expect the myopathy of the franchisee fan and their clubs, wallowing in the muck of avarice to grasp any of that.

League cup sf make over one leg.
Reduce champs league groups to 3 teams so you only play 4 matches instead of 6.
    Scrap international friendly

The minute the EFL says they'll boycott, the Premier League will be happy to see the whole competition go away. MLS tried keeping all of their teams out of the US Open Cup this summer and then USSF provided a half measure where the top teams playing in Concacaf Champions Cup could sit out the tournament and only 8 MLS teams had to put in their senior teams. I also think if clubs are counting on FA Cup money to keep them afloat need to do more to fix their finances than counting on potentially hosting a Premier League team. How many lower league teams are also still trying to squeeze games in because of weather, cups, and other issues. It's not just the Prem that are having this problem. Fortunately only City and Chelsea have to worry about the Club World Cup.

    • @Soccerates
      @Soccerates Před měsícem

That would all be fine m, until you actually see that the Premier League outside of "The Big Six" are creaking financially as well. MLS however is a great example because of the franchisee nature of the ownership there is being replicated here and that has fed down to the people who like to see the club doing well.
Supporters, however, are getting shafted by it. There is a distinction.

Reducing the pressure on fixtures would suggest that other tournaments are not expanded, but that is so obviously not the case. The smaller clubs, the ones that benefit most from forcing a replay are not involved in top European or National team issues and this so obviously robs them of the potential for cup dividends. If I hadn’t started watching my team over 50 years ago, I’d look to a local third tier team and give them my money and support - they’ll certainly need it.

The quickest way to fix the schedule is to not have promotion for a season and have demotion only from the Prem league down for 4 teams. That leaves 16 teams in the PL moving forward and only 30 games played in the PL so 8 less games on the schedule. Those extra 4 teams moving down will end up with 4 more teams in the National league. They play so many games you could just play each other once.

Horrific. Any small team drawing with a multi billion premier league deserves either a replay at both home for the huge gate receipts, or away and the whole town can go to an amazing away game. The premier leagues teams used to give the gate receipts to the visiting team. That money went a long way for a small team.
I can only hope the small team giant slayers beat the bigger clubs in penalties.
Premier league teams always moaning about the amout of games played yearly, they have the money for a A,B, and C teams. They dont have to field an A team. They could field a C team.
To a premier league team, it may be nothing, but the small teams, and away game at liverpool, man u , aresnal etc is an event that will be with the fans for a lifetime.

Let's address all the points in turn -
    1. The UEFA/FIFA argument.
Clubs across the entire pyramid have international players. England, ran by the FA, do not have to play friendly matches if they don't want to.
    2. "Top players are playing too many matches. We have to protect their welfare."
Compared to their Football League counterparts, no, they are not. Furthermore, players further down the pyramid, who work another job, often have to cram lots of matches in a short space of time. Does player welfare not cpunnt three days after the Premier League finish, when some clubs are flying 17-19hrs to another continent to play a friendly?
    3. "We are protecting grassroots football."
Scrapping friendlies does not protect grassroots. It hinders them. Also, the local businesses and the uplift in profile that the towns, etc, get has not been considered.
Absolute nonsense again and I do feel that the 712 clubs that werent consulted need to stand together and boycott the FA Cup.

Its about money, money which they are gonna get back as part of the deal, how many replays have you seen?
They rarely happen. We like to hug on nostalgia .
Lets take football back to what it was in the 1800s

    Just copy what
    The D.F.B. do in
    Germany with
    The D.F.B Pokal.
    Zero replys, but
with the higher division club playing away from
home to the lower division club
So say Barent would be at home to Manchester City.
    Rotherham United
    at home to Chelsea.
    Plymouth Argyle
    at home to West Ham.
    But if
Spurs are drew Arsenal at home then that is the way it stays.
One game extra time & pens if nessasery.
T.V revenue split so the lower league club get the lions share
    so if the tie was
    Barnet V Manchester City
    Barnet would get 75% of
    T.V revenue globally
    & the entire gate money.

The Prem would scrap the FA cup in a heart beat. The new owners just want money!!! No Cup mean more away matches in USA, Saudi, Super League etc.
I can guarantee in the next few years, the Prem will argue why there is two cups? It’s too many games blah blah blah 😢

Disagree. These clubs need a reality check. They’ll be lucky to make round 3 then it’s a lottery to who they get replays are done and need got rid of. We don’t have replays for the final like we used to no club competition does now. Get over it. If you rely on the chance the very slim chance you may get one of the so called big clubs is so your club can survive you and your club are doing something wrong.

Is the obvious thing not to have a decision to replay or not. Like if it’s Wrexham vs Bournemouth and it’s 1-1, both teams should be asked if they want a replay, if ONE choose yes, they replay. On the other hand, if it’s Chelsea vs fulham, and both decide on no replay, it goes to pens instantly.
