You should note: The back sun roof drains come out behind the back fenders. You can undo the screws in the fender well and grab the back of the fender and pull toward you to see where the drain hole is located. Blow it out with air. When the drain is clogged, it will fill your trunk full of water destroying your pump and modulator. It happened to me… I drilled five holes in the bottom of my truck to prevent that from happening again.

I'm on my 2nd SRX, I suppose I've been lucky I haven't had any of these problems. No sunroof, liftgate, timing chain issues. My last SRX ended up with 176k miles. My current SRX is at 116k miles and still looks brand new. Literally 2 of the best cars I've ever owned.

@@johnc5914 I bought my 2011 SRX in 2013 with 18K miles on it. I had zero problems until this year, 98K miles. Had to replace a front wheel bearing and front sway bar links. Really loved this car. A little underpowered with the 3.0L but all in all, great comfortable and dependable transportation. Average fuel economy is 18.6 mpg over those miles.

    • @apieceofdirt4681
      @apieceofdirt4681 Před 2 lety

@@togamac My 2011 has the 2.8T. It’s a big difference between the turbo and the 3.0V6. If you stomp on the gas at at red light first and second gear come on strong. After that the turbo falls off then takes a couple of seconds to get going again. It’s not like I smash the gas pedal all the time but it’s nice to have that extra boost when it’s needed. I bought my 2011 SRX in the fall of 2020 and it only had 19,278 miles on it and as of now it has only a touch over 26K. I’ve had probably $8-9,000 worth of repairs done on the damn thing HOWEVER the dealer extended warranty I bought at the time of purchase paid for it all…..with the exception of the $100 deductible for each issue I’ve had with it. Once I got all of those issues fixed I haven’t had it in the shop for anything. It rides and handles great and is a solid vehicle. The headlights are going to be extremely expensive to replace because the plastic is starting to cloud and it cannot be buffed out. They have to be replaced. That’s probably going to be around $1,300 each to replace.

No,no,no you missed the #1 problem. The CUE screen becomes unable to detect touch. I personally know 6 other SRX owners who have had to replace this same video screen. It is the reason it is unlikely I will ever own an American car again. Cadillac does not stand behind its defective components. I have otherwise had pretty good service from my SRX. The CUE video screen is a big problem and is pervasive.

I saw your video on how to clear/reset the heated seat on the cadillac srx when the heated seat won't stay on. my problem isn't that the light won't stay on, it's that the driver's seat doesn't heat at all. the light turns on and stays light up, but the seat itself doesn't get warm. aside from the reset that you suggested in the video, what other things can i try?

So glad this didn't show real major issues, except for possibly having to replace timing chain. I just purchased a 2016 a few days ago. Only 54K on it and has service records of Mobile One oil use only. Hopefully this will keep my chain in good working order. As far as the other 4 issues I have not experienced any and this vehicle is 7 years old. Thanks for the tips.

If you change oil every 5K miles, unlikely to have timing change issue. Does not matter which vehicle you own, if you don't change oil regularly or late on oil changes, you will have timing chain issue.

I have a 2010 SRX, purchased new. I have seen two of the five problems reported here. The timing chain problem and head light condensation.
Cadillac has a rebate program for replacing the headlights, as a result from a class-action law suit. The headlight replacement is not a recall program, but they will reimburse you for the coast of replacing the headlights. The replacement was roughly $1,300. I think that program has been discontinued.
My timing chain and chain tensioner were replaced at 35k mile, under warranty.
My SRX has been garaged it's lifetime, so I have not experienced the roof problem with clogged drains. However, I have head of many who have.
    Good posting. Thanks,

Make sure to check your oil level often. The older engines burned more oil making the engine run hot and stretching the chain. There is a fix, some redesigned gasket for the intake manifold/PCV system.

I own a 2013 srx4 with the premium trim. It is lovely. Mileage is 187,788. Other than tires, oil and changing the Cue screen (1 100 USD ) and both front wheel ball bearings I had to change the axle feeding torque to the rear wheels (875.00 USD). For an 8 year old car, that it is also used as an Uber more than 50% of the time, that is not bad at all. Actually it beats my Volvo S80 which I painfully owned for 11 years. I am also a skillful hyper mileager, so the miles per gallon is almost 19.

I don’t own a Cadillac but the car I drive has a Sunroof. It was leaking fixed it myself for under 20.00.. How? In the channels of the sunroof the drain holes and tubes can get clogged. I went to Lowe’s or Home Depot. Bought the largest diameter string trimmer line. Which was .125. Cut off a piece about 6 feet long and reamed those drain holes out. What nasty I was pulling out. Do that then take very gentle pressure water stream n keep flushing them till you see clear water draining out from under the car…

It’s clear to me now that all these drains have to be cleared constantly, which is a pain in the butt to say the least. And my car smells really bad old stinky water so now a car shampoo will easily be $100-$150 😔

If you change oil regularly with good oil, you won't have timing chain issue. My 2012 SRX with 110K miles runs like new. I change oil every 5k miles, drained/filled trans fluid at 60K and 110k miles. However, I did replace both rear wheel bearings because the magnetic strip for ABS broken off. This week, code P0496 pops up, $16 evap purge solenoid fixed the issue. Besides that, very reliable vehicle. One more thing, it starts to sip oil (about 1.5 quarts for 5K miles). I switched to high mileage oil and it seems to improve a lot.

Headlights do develop leaks. Have a qualified mechanic seal the housings. Inexpensive fix that negates new housings.
Sunroof drains do clog up causing 2 problems:1. leaks inside car 2. water contamination of liftgate module which controls liftgate$$.
Motor pcv system on 2010 ~2012 doesn't vent well. (ALL GM 3.0 and 3.6 motors have same problem.) Get pcv valve drilled out and/ or get an oil catch can installed. Helps alleviate carbon build up in intake, prevents hard starting/ rough idling and reduces likelihood of timing chain stretching. If PCV valve is not addressed or catch can is not installed or oil is not changed regularly, timing chains WILL stretch and WILL have to be replaced around 100k. $$$
    -Seal headlight housings
-Address pcv system and get catch can.
-Have qualified mechanic make sure sunroof drains are clear.
    Enjoy your car.

There will be 4 10 mm bolts holding the radiator on. And the clips for the trans cooler you have to be gentle with or they will leak. Get a small pick tool to remove the metal "spring" from the plastic cover then the lines will come out. Also make sure you do not pull the petcock/drain plug out all the way...it will leak

This is pretty much the soul vehicle I've worked on most everyday for the past 7 years. This video has some misinformation. The older body style Cts 3.6 has a very common timing chain issue, Ive never heard of a timing chain issue on the newer 3.6 engines in the srx, xts, enclave, newer cts etc . Throttle body and mass air flow issues are super rare. Check engine light for a Camshaft actuator/solenoids are insanely common, and if you guys are selling timing chains because of that you must be making a lot of money, every single front cover leaks, front lower control arm bushings clunk regularly, front wheel bearings make noise, Cue screen loose touch and/or the screen cracks, one side of the a/c blows hot because of the desicant bag(spelling), fuel pump leaks setting a evap code, and a little more on the rare side but still a known issue is the 3-5-R clutch assembly in the transmission completely breaks and you loose 3rd, 5th and reverse. For everyones information headlights do get condensation an most everyone gets one free set of headlights through GM under a special coverage policy.
