South Park is obviously not a show that is primarily watched for its lore, but for a topical animated comedy series, it sure does feature a surprising amount of it. Sure, much of this comes in the form of parody, but through all of these parodies and references the show has established a pretty fascinating series of ideas and lore that I have a ton of fun diving into. A surprising piece of worldbuilding that has come up many times over the series is the idea of immortal beings, with the show featuring many of them and even establishing and reinforcing its own rules for these types of characters. So today let’s take a deep dive into the many immortal beings of South Park.

it is so fitting that kenny shares a category with jesus christ.
Kenny is a great kid, he may not be perfect, or even that friendly but he has shown many times that he’s more than willing to sacrifice himself for the world or even just one of his friends. Kenny deserves it
Well Kenny is technically immortal... Until the writers decide to kill him for good.
both jew and in general they are very similar
@@superitgel1 kenny isnt jewish, youre thinking of kyle

Facts.
Fun fact: In South Park, Kenny has met his demise a whopping 126 times in total. This includes 97 times in the actual television series, 12 in the random assortment of South Park shorts, and 14 in the video games
if I'm not mistaken, didn't he die in the movie too?
@@the_bacon_god yeah that was a big plot of the movie
Man that sucks for Kenny.😕 But at least he got rid of his Herpes.💁
Oh my God! Jay Leno's chin killed Kenny!
Is it fun, tho?
4:37-4:48 Technically his parents remember, since Carol McCormick always births a new body for Kenny and says “It’s happening again!”
Carol. Karen’s his sister
@@tahraethestoryteller6079 Oh yeah, thanks for the correction.😅
State dependent memory perhaps? Forgetting the occurrence and the details except when it actually reoccurs the remembering everything?
Or she's just trailer park trash and means she's having another kid every time she says that 🤷
The video didn’t go into this, but Kenny’s parents got the curse after participating in a cthulhu cult, lured by the promise of free booze. Only people with a connection to cthulhu remembers Kenny’s deaths, from what I remember. But yeah, it’s something along those lines
Kenny has been banished by Cthulhu and killed by Satan... Twice...
And he still returned, Kenny's version of immortality while not providing any special powers like Satan's or Cthulhu's, it's still superior in a way
And death itself.
Okay so by following this logic and how he still tried to commit suicide by fighting Cthulhu. I have come to conclusion that Kenny’s version of immortality is possibly a much different form of Immortality than anyone else on the list.
The example on how I think immortality is probably bad but this is currently my best idea on how to explain it. Version 1-The closest thing I could think of a connection to is tardigrades. Tardigrades are said to live in pretty impossible environments which are the closest thing to the first time of immortality that everyone on the list besides Kenny and Jesus. Version 2-Now Jesus’s immortality is like how respawning in games work with there usually being sometime between dying and respawning. Version 3-Kenny’s version of immortality possibly works like this. If the thing that killed him is not an immortal no besides him remembers it but if he killed by immortal no one remembers his death no even him.
So Kenny’s immortality is closet to the normal concept of immortality with him living forever.
@@ThefifthBishopofGord i like to think kenny is an elder god
Satan can die- Kenny can’t. Satan went to heaven.
@@averagesouthparkfan8669 because he was killed by an immortal, the manbearpig
The hidden *”joke”* for the South Park Movie, was that Kenny’s death, return to Earth and ascending into Heaven was based of Jesus’ death, sacrifice, resurrection and ascension to Heaven. Since both Jesus Christ and Kenny have remained dead for 3 days only for them to return and die for everyone’s sins, before returning to Heaven.
so Kenny is basically Jesus but not 🤨
@@imwastingmytimeonthis677 From the looks of it, that’s what the creators were going for.

I too am far too invested in Kenny/Mysterion lore. Especially when you take the Lovecraftian stuff into account, that’s the cherry on top for me. Kenny does need a hug though, very badly. That scene where he shoots himself in front of the others begging them to remember actually made me so sad. (Though “Well, I’m tired, I’m gonna go to bed” *blam* was, by contrast, hilarious.)
Also, no spoilers, but play the DLC! I only just played it recently and the final boss is awesome.

The funny thing is is that Cartman actually does remember Kenny dying in fact in the episode where Cartman owned the amusement park he stated that Kenny dies all the time and he was the only one who noticed anything up when Kenny came back from The Nightmare Dimension that Cthulhu sent them to
I think that was just meant to be a one-off joke. Theres really no evidence supporting that Cartman is special in any way compared to the other characters
@@ignisspiritustenebris7137 no in another episode he saw some rats and was saying “No Kenny’s not dead yet!”
@@WiredLain_ thats pretty weird. Could be a retcon considering he doesnt try to constantly remind other characters that kenny frequently dies
i mean he spent a whole season with him in him that might have effect him a bit but as for cthulhu that's just a basic logic error he recognized
Bradley also freaked out when he saw Mysterion afterwards.
That trilogy, to me, has a slight plot hole in that Kenny could have potentially helped his friends realize he must have in fact have died by making them aware of that paradox.
Kenny got sucked into the city of R'lyeh with them, but Kenny was with Mint Berry Crunch before they got rescued. They might have just thought "Wait... WAS he with us? Maybe Cthulhu missed him..." but whatever.

I think Jesus has some additional powers, perhaps they weren’t deemed “super” enough during the Easter special discussion. Notably he seems to have a healing touch, as he healed Santa’s broken legs in Iraq.
…and having finished writing this statement, I have to applaud South Park on making it possible for such a statement to be made.

Kenny is amazing.
Mysterio he apparently uses to cheer up his sister, or try to stop terrible things.
He liked nascar so he had a reason to be upset at cartman for ruining it.
Kenny literally was like "ok" for having to protect heaven from Satan's army.
also, have you seen him dance? cure to depreession
I don’t know if it’s official or not, but I like to think that new kid from the South Park games is immortal like Kenny because he dies twice in two uncontrollable cutscenes in the first game
5:25-5:38
Actually *waking up in his bed* and *his mother giving to him* are one in the same, since Kenny’s parents put him in his bed. Also Kenny’s either 9 or 10 years old now.🤔
Kenny is my favorite too! Kinda hate that he doesn't get much to do in later seasons, but despite them sort of reconning some of his lore while keeping some continuity between them (remember Cartman Joins NAMBLA? Has Kenny trying to keep his parents from having another baby... only to die and when they have another baby they name it Kenny and put his parka on it, implying this has happened all those other times he died). But Kenny has usually always been depicted as one of the nicer, more noble characters. Hell, even Butters acknowledges this in Butters Goes Native when he goes on tirade ridiculing every other character but says Kenny is alright because he has some dignity. And the number of times Kenny has sacrificed himself for others (an early episode has him freezing to death to plug in a generator or something, then of course theres the movie). And his big brother protectiveness over his little sister is a sweet touch.
" Such as Jesus Christ and Kenny"
That's why I love South Park
You missed 2 potential immortals. There's Damian, the devil's son, that appeared in one of the earlier seasons and the Canadian Devil that appeared in Freemium Isn't Free. They're both likely immortal but it was never confirmed.
Also mintberry crunch has never stated to be immortal I don't know where the guy got that idea
@@retsrow2899 yeah that's what i was thinking too. Of all those isted, only chtulhu is canonically immortal in south park verse
I mean, God is a fair assumption, and Jesus is not immortal per se, he's just a mortal manifestation of God that can be killed at will but keeps reviving
Manbearpig might just be a very strong demon, and Satan has Eternal life of course, but it's never confirmed to be "immortal" (not aging/living forever and being actually invulnerable are very different things)
Mintberry crunch beat up chtulhu, but didn't really kill him, so we never have any proof that he's another immortal. What he CAN do, is probably kick the collective asses of Satan, Manbearpig, jesus, mysterion since chtulhu showed powers much more impressive than their own and still got beaten into submission
Santa claus probably has the same kind of longevity/eternal life as Satan, but is much weaker (like a human)
Last but not least kenny. He's a kid that can die and resurrect. Not immortal, he's very mortal, he just has some power that got stuck on him because his parents went to the chtulhu meetings and probably did something while they were drunk/high.
Did you forget about Kyle? I'm not saying he is immortal, but he showed powers at least twice. Changing reality in Tooth Fairy's Tats 2000, and communicating with the microbiome in One For The Ladies.
I'll always love Kenny. Easily my favorite, the episodes centered around him are usually so good
Remembering the episode where Kenny died for real brought me back to being an edgy 6th grader
i’m glad i didnt live through the era of edgy 12 year olds
@@NeedyBoBeedy aren’t 12 year olds always edgy
Fun fact: cartmen knows about Kenny dieting as he said in cartmen land “but my friend Kenny always dies”
Kenny is the best immortal.
Imagine a Kenny special trilogy
With Ken as the main star of the show. That would be kick ass.
I know this is a long shot and probably not going to happen, but with more comedic adult animated shows being more dramatic I would REALLY LOVVVEEE to see another slightly more serious episode exploring Kennys immortality again.
I also love that most of South Parks rare instances of genuine dramatic or heartfelt moments come from Kenny.
There’s an obvious matchup that I think you missed: Jesus vs Mysterion. Now _that_ would be a battle for the ages, maybe good as a *final* episode.
Is it ever confirmed that Mintberry Crunch is immortal? He is no doubt immensely powerful, but I don't think his mortality has been tested yet.
Just let me have this
its implied he's immortal by the fact that kenny (immortal) would have defeated cthulu (immortal) but mintberry crunch does instead. i know cthulu dont die but thats the implication, never confirmed though
i dont watch south park but dude, doesn't cthulhu die? he's immortal. immortals can kill immortals.

I'm shocked about the lore about Kenny. I was thinking that Kenny gets killed in every episode. I also notice it might happen again in a future episode.
Haven't watched in years, when did they stop killing Kenny in every episode? It used to be every episode
@@xp8969 They still do it. They just no longer make it a point to kill him *every* time.
The last episode to come out (the second COVID special) has a bunch of kids throw Kenny off a bridge with a cement block on his feet. They drop him and it turns out the river is super shallow so he lives... He is stuck there all episode and the during the credits is when they show that he later tried to hop his way to safety, fell over, and drowned. I think season 7 (after he had been dead for almost all of 6) was when they began to kill him less and less, often making jokes about killing him without actually killing him. And the further you go the less it comes up, probably.
Another question is can a power immortal kill a resurrect immortal permanently. It is said only an immortal can kill another immortal but technically speaking Jesus and Kenny can be killed by anyone. This begs the question, does their immortality play be quite the same rules as the other immortals or could they still get away with resurrecting infinitely even if killed by another immortal.
And would Kenny or Jesus be able to kill the other type of immortal? Like, if Kenny got super strength, could he kill Manbearpig?
I think you forgot one potentially immortal character. In the episode where the Parents are trying to cancel Terrance and Philip, Kenny’s dad was thrown at the building and died, but came back in the next episode
How did you know I've been obsessed with South park, especially Kenny, recently. He's my wallpaper on my phone lmao
The dlc is very fun. Its worth keeping an eye for when the games go on sale on steam, usually dlc goes on sale with it. If its been a while theyre a fun refresher of a game to go through again.
I don't think Mintberry Crunch was ever explicitly stated as being immortal in the show. He was just shown to be a super-powerful being. The only abilities he has shown is flight, super strength, and the ability to summon up attacks of mint and berries. He was strong enough to banish Cthulhu with these powers, but that doesn't necessarily mean he is immortal since the Great Old One wasn't killed in their battle. Admittedly, I haven't played TFBW, so if there is more to his powers revealed there than I have not seen it.
Henrietta mentioned that you can only defeat a immortal with another immortal. So if Mint Berry Crunch was able to defeat Cthulu than that means he's immortal.
@@NintendoMeister2260 mortals can defeat immortals. only immortals can kill immortals though and mintberry crunch didn't kill him he just sent him back to the alternate dimension so mintberry crunch could be mortal
@@fishiable809 He is kind of like a parody of Superman with his backstory and Superman has died plenty of times so that makes sense.
Yeah exactly there is no episode that ever said that he is immortal so I don't know where this content creator got that idea
@@NintendoMeister2260 no you can only kill an immortal with another immortal he banished Cthulhu he didn't kill him
I think the reason for santa needing to be saved is because the definition of immortal is living forever and doesn't state that you can't be killed
Returning to this video after a while as I don’t remember if it was mentioned but fun fact about Kenny’s immortality is that it’s referenced as far back as season 4 in the Nambla episode where at the end Kenny dies and his parents have a new child (having attempted to have one the whole episode) and they decide to name him Kenny in memory but also mention how this has already happened 50 something times
Ever since I first started watching South Park as kid, Kenny has always been my favorite. Whenever Kenny is not dying, his personality has always shown that he is a true homie. Sacrificing himself on multiple occasions, helps take care of his family or his sister at least. The dude once snorted what was essentially space cocaine, and is pretty much responsible for the Earth not being destroyed by aliens. Kenny is a real G. I also forgot to mention that Kenny is a Magic the Gathering GOD.
Satan taking a dive in the boxing match with Jesus after placing the bet on Jesus to win is absolutely hilarious
It's interesting that the super immortals aren't human and the resurrections immortals are. Kind've implying that the resurrection type is only available to humans. As well, canonically Cartman is the only one who seems to remember Kenny's deaths.
I love how in 2:19 you can hear Johnny holding his laughter
“Santa probably isnt inmortal because he almost died in Iraq”
Oh boy, I never knew I needed a deep dive on South Park lore so much. Awesome video!
I think you forgot about Member berries. Randy tried to kill them, but without success, yet other berries can easly kil each other, which would confirm immortal logic of South Park.
I don't think Jesus could kill Satan, Manbearpig, Cthulu or Mintberry Crunch. However, given how Kenny's powers work, I think he could. What if he were killed via consumption? Given what happened when Cartman consumed his ashes, we could assume Kenny would take partial control of the being that ate him, and thus be able to kill the being, or subject it to the power of another immortal to be killed.
2:04 “NO! Don’t look!”
“Oooooooh, is that ok”
“I don’t know”
My favorite immortal (and character in South Park) is definitely Satan. He is SUCH a character and his development throughout the series is one of my favorites as well. I'm wondering (and kind of hoping) they may explore the possibility of his character returning via resurrection; as most of the heaven associated immortals have had immortality via resurrection, and he has (re-)entered heaven now.
Funny how right before I got the notification for this video I was watching the South Park movie on CZcams. I can’t get enough of that movie’s musical numbers.
Lol I watched it last night
A fight between mintberry crunch and manbearpig would be badass, mintberry crunch is one of my favorite heroes
The fact that Trey and Matt have maintained their internal consistency with regards to immortal characters is just.......friggen genius and shows why SP has lasted as long as it has
Has it ever been confirmed if man bear pig is actually real or did he escape from imagination land again when fighting Satan?
being other deities, i'd have to imagine the rest of the Super Best Friends are also immortals. also, considering their power is simply resurrection i wonder if Jesus & Kenny would return even if killed by the others.
I like how even when you try to take South Park's lore seriously, it's still inseperable from the comedy
There was a mistake in the video.
Kenny was “permanently” dead in the Season 5, Episode 13 (Kenny Dies). He didn’t return in season 6 until Season 6, Episode 17 (Red Sleigh Down) at the literal end of the episode.
I said he was dead for season 6?
@@Johnny2Cellos You said he was dead for season 7. Also I love your videos
Thanks, but no I actually said he was dead for season 6, and that he comes back for season 7. I know he technically reappears at the last moment of season 6 but that's just kind of playing semantics, he is dead all of season 6 and is back as a part of the show in season 7
Always interested to learn about fellow immortals
Another great video, Johnny
You forget every single dead person. (Particularly in hell) since whenever they are killed they come back.
I mean where else are they going to go, Detroit?
Haha being immortal in hell doesn’t count
Seriously mango, the more I watch your vids the more it sinks in that I need to watch this show.
Another banger video, 10/10!
Cartman seems to be the only one who remembers Kenny’s deaths, if you look for it you will find it
I got really excited to see this! I never even thought to explore all the lore South Park has.
I love that Kenny is in the same category as Jesus
Captain Hindsight wasn't bitten, a retro-active spider got into the controls of a machine he was hooked up to whilest trying to improve his natural hindsight, but it instead boosted it to "superhuman levels"
I would love to see a prequel episode with Marvin Marsh making a deal with Manbearpig
Usually fictional characters don't emotionally affect me one bit, but the speech of Mysterion...
I think maybe all of SouthPark is immortal or not aging. Because it’s a show yes but in one of the more recent series we saw Terrance and Phillip get a Netflix series and suddenly they’re elderly. I hope if the show ever does end they go super lore heavy and self aware that the characters have stayed in fourth grade for years
An adult mintberry crunch vs Manbear pig is gonna be one of the best, if not, the number 1 fight in the whole series.
I think Kelly (from the rainforest episode) might have some powers as she is someone able to save Kenny (possibly by the fact that she renames him) the other being hanky and we know he has powers
1:38 Satan gets killed in season 22 after losing a fight against ManBearPig.
Berry flavor and a satisfying minty crunch? That sounds like a super cereal that even ManBearPig could not destroy.
The kinda video we really needed. Thanks, J2C!

I like to think that pacifier is Kenny's phylactery, he swallows it as he ages back up overnight, and its never truly destroyed in his many deaths due to the lovely human shield constantly around it in the form of his body
Kenny is my favorite character period
i think terrance mephesto and jason white are also somewhat immortal, terrance died in mecha streisand but still appears as a background character and he even gets his own card in phone destroyer. jason white still appeared in later episodes even after his death in season finale
Just because Santa might be immortal doesn't mean he can't be tied down or that he can just walk through walls.
I could see Manbearpig coming back. I think that agreement said 5 years till he comes back, but they could save him for the Post-Covid series.
I have 0 clue if Mitch Conner is immortal but it sounds like it'll fit pretty well
I'm not sure how much content there is for a video, but I'd love to see a character study of Kenny. He has a tendency to be a prop or a background character unless the story is specifically focusing on him, but he has some consistent character traits. He can have an addictive personality and will try anything once since dying is not a permanent thing. He's genuinely skilled at a lot of stuff (hell, look at how he can actually fight well as Mysterion) and he really cares about his sister. I don't ever hear anyone talking about it, but "The Poor Kid" is one of my favorite episodes of the show because it's a Kenny heavy story and really shows off some of the things that makes him tick.
This is a big goal of mine, Kenny is one of my fav characters and I wanna do him justice
@@Johnny2Cellos Awesome! Definitely looking forward to it. I feel like he's really underappreciated since other characters like Randy, Cartman, and Butters tend to be more popular than him.

Bojack Horseeman lore: haha sad horse sad
South Park lore:
all i can say about the dlc with mintberry crunch is that he is insanely powerful
My interpretation of the way that Kenny's immortality works is that he can only come back if his body is destroyed in some way, even if it isn't completely destroyed. This could explain why he's absent in post-covid until the future is fixed - in the future, there may be a way to ensure that a body never decays over time, meaning that Kenny's soul is still trapped inside his body. This could also explain why the rats always come to eat him if his body is still intact upon his death - they're agents of Cthulu destroying Kenny's body so that he can be resurrected. Once his body is destroyed, his soul is freed to move on to the afterlife, like in bigger, longer, and uncut and best friends forever, or to stay on Earth, which could serve as an explanation for how he's able to possess creatures and objects after Cartman drinks his ashes. I think he also has a great deal of agency in his soul's fate once his body is destroyed, which is why Dead Mysterion's ult in tfbw shows Kenny being able to choose to keep helping his friends on Earth rather than move on to heaven, a choice which he seems reluctant to make. I also think that his immortality functions even when killed by an immortal being. He is an immortal, after all, so shouldn't he be able to kill himself? The Coon and Friends episodes and tfbw show him ending his own life, and since that means he was killed by an immortal, he should stay dead, but still comes back. In my opinion, this make his immortality the most powerful out of all of the immortals (except maybe God) because it means that his soul will always live on and be able to have freedom over what it does and where it does it, and so long as the future doesn't break his revive system, he'll always be able to go back into his body. And even if his body is perfectly preserved, he could still just possess someone and carry on as if he had been resurrected.
I wonder if Mecha Streisand is immortal. It took a lot of super powered, potentially immortal celebrities to defeat her.
And she wasn’t even killed in the 200 saga, merely distracted by the super best friends.
Nice video! Also, don’t know if it’s mentioned but I’m pretty sure the Mayor is an immortal too cause I remember in one episode she kills herself and in some episodes later she’s back, so technically unless i missed something she can respawn too
Nice wrap. Parody, satire and all the humor South Park uses work that much better because they have developed a well-structured universe including laws and lores.
For Manbearpig so warmed the world, that he gave his only forgotten son, so that whosoever should believe in him should surely Paris, and have super serial.
It should be noted that ManBearPig will never die unless we found a good countermeasure to global warming, as ManBearPig is a metaphor for global warming.
But mintberry crunch didn't kill cthulu, he just banished him, right? And is it ever outright stated?
Jesus's two confirmed powers other than resurrection are healing and master carpentry. He does have loads of guns though.
Hi Johnny, may I suggest an episode about the dead figures, or those who got cut off?
List a few here:
Chef, miss Chokesondick, principal Victoria, Clyde`s Mom, Mrs. Nelson, and most lately, Sharon and Shelly.
I got to admit that I have been bummed out by the death of Mrs. Nelson and Sharon recently, it was like I had never appreciated them while they were still there. And principal Victoria and Chef were also definitely a loss for the show, while Ms. Chokeondick and Clyde`s mom just died kind of randomly.
You know, South Park kills lots of people basically in every episode, death is supposed to normal here, but I still feel really sorry for somesome characters whom we will never seen again.
Thanks for reading, always love your series
How about Slash as an immortal? Considering he can be in multiple places at once is it so bold to assume he can’t die?
from what I know kenny is the only person to know that he died, other than the viewer. This would make south park either from kenny's point of view making him the main character, or just the omnipotent cameraman pov.
Your channel is the reason I started watching South Park
Santa may be immortal and not invulnerable and thus the need to rescue him
wait...Kenny is Mysterion?!?!?
no one will ever know mysterion's true identity
.
If you actually scrolled down here, you must not know that he's Kenny.
I think Kenny's parents remember his deaths since when he was reborn his mom says "it's happening again!"
Jesus didn't revive in S11 E5, He was alive by S7 E4, so I assume he dies again sometime in-between those episodes.
I love these videos because they let me know I am not alone in my crazy South Park conspiracies. ~
It's interesting that Kenny and Jesus are the same kind of immortals.
Also, would Mr. Hankey be an Immortal by chance? He is the Christmas poo.
That being said I think Santa is immortal he would just come back like Jesus and Kenny.
Mr Hankey isn't considered immortal? I mean, his theme song states "he comes from you" which suggests he can be "reborn" anytime someone takes a crap.
One thing about kenny. It seems his power has some kind of untold rule about dieing every day apposed to dieing over time. Back in the episode kenny dies it was over several days
Spoilers for the covid specials!!
In the specials we see kenny die for real again. Over time by covid plus. It seems that if kenny dies by something that takes more then a day he can not come back to life as easily
