  • Italian Headway is a project to learn and improve your Italian skills through listening to authentic contents and materials.
    As we just saw in the video, the Italian flag is a vertical tricolor of green, white, and red. The Mexican flag on first glance is the same except the there is a coat of arms in the center white stripe. However, there are a couple of subtle differences. The Italian flag uses lighter shades of green and red and the Italian flag has an aspect ratio (width:height) of 3:2 while the Mexican flag is 7:4.

    The Mexican tricolor predated the Italian tricolor as a national flag… so technically, the Mexican flag is an older NATIONAL flag, but they didn’t copy each other. Italy also uses a lighter shade of green and the flag is a bit more “square” if that makes sense in terms of ratio…

      @NICK LOMBARDI The italians might have had the colors and flag first, for uses other than the national flag, but it hadn’t become the national flag until the proclamation of the kingdom of Italy, 40 years after the Mexicans.

      William Thomas it's funny you mention this because one time a thread on a Italian culture page I was a part of was started by this racist white woman ( yes Italians are white but I mean northern European white) that started to disrespect both Italians and Mexicans ( Hispanics) . She started saying racial or ethnic stereotypes of Italian and Mexican men , that they love hitting on waiters and basically being horn dogs .She also mentioned that Italy = Mexico because both Italy and Mexico have the same colors for their flags, I put her in her place saying Mexico's flag has a eagle 🦅 on it. Then I said despite having the same colors , both countries flags are of no relation to each other, however México does have Italian influence by way of Spain usually and there are even pockets of Italians in Mexico.The bi*** didn't say anything back lol 😆, damn are some people in the u.s ignorant about Geography,history and genes .I actually think it's possible she was trolling but she sounded stupid.

    To set this straight once and for all: Mexico began using the tricolor as a National flag in 1821, while the Cisalpine Republic (present day Italy) since 1798. The same "tricolore" was then adopted for the Italian United Provinces in 1831 and of course since 1861 after the unification of Italy. In terms of national flag, Mexico used it first, but the concept of a tricolor flag with green, white and red in a vertical orientation had been a thing on pre-unification territories of Italy since the late 1700s. I think we can call it even lol. Plus, the Italian and Mexican flags differ in aspect ratio (7:4 vs 3:2) the tint / hue of the green and the Mexican flag features the coat of arms placed in the middle white stripe.
    I like them both :) 🇮🇹🇲🇽

    I’m Mexican🇲🇽 maybe Italy copied the Mexican Flag😂, just kidding. I think the reason they look the same is because of the Catholic Church, cultural similarities, etc. Speaking of the Mexican and Italian Flags being similar, the Irish Flag is also very similar, because I was looking at the history of the Irish Flag and the French actually made the Irish flag as a gift to Ireland and like this video mentions, the idea of the Italian flag came from Napoleon, when Mexico was fighting against Spain, Napoleon invaded Spain, and I think Mexico also got that same idea. So I guess our flags and the Irish Flag are like an inspiration from the French and Napoleon, instead of blue, it’s green. Viva 🇮🇹🇲🇽🇮🇪🇫🇷

    Are Italians the true Latinos?
    The Latin language comes from Italy. Mexico was colonized by Spain. Spain speak Spanish. How is Mexicans Latino?

    • @carlosm.3426
      @carlosm.3426 Před rokem

      Italy is broken down to many ethnic groups, Latins are one of them and most Italians have nothing to do with them. In the Northern there are not of Latin origin but of roots such as Lombardian, Venetian, Ligures, Etruscan etc, the Latins were a small tiny tribe in the center western part of Italy. So technically no, most as in 90% of Italians wouldn't be Latins either. Different languages, culture, genetics etc

      @@beccatiquesto64 It was not used by Northern Italy, it was first used by LOMBARDIA, Lombardia is not all of the North. At that time, Lombardia had nothing to do with Italy, it was a separate and own country, it didn't become part of Italy until 1859. They didn't even speak the same language, didn't have the same culture, weren't genetically the same. Lombardy was settled by a small tribe called the Winnili, who were from southern Scandinavia. They were tall, blonde and very Northern European. Not short, brown like Southern and Central Italians.
