Finally someone made a video. Helped a lot. However I had the same issue with water in the unit (same side) I found a headlight shop that fixed for $150 BINGO back in business.... screw that dealer charge of $1500 to replace... Great video
Thanks for the excellent post. I didn't buy a new headlight assembly but I replaced the ballast and light in the driver's side like yours. I noticed when I had the bulb cover off the condensation quickly dried up so for better or worse I drilled 3x 3/16 holes on the bulb cover for venting. I put the cover on so the holes are on the bottom below the flat part. I also did a micro-silicone bead along the top of the light that is just below the hood line. A guy from Dallas did that in his post. So this was a relaxed two hour repair start to finish thanks to you.
Thanks man I appreciate your video so much. I was able to find a cheep part online instead of going to dealer and was able to put my headlight in. Thanks 👍
I have the 2014 model. This video saved me a $1,000! Mine had about 1/4 cup of water. Rotated it until I found the leak. Sealed it, and also drilled 3 small holes for drainage on the bottom of the lens just before the black housing. This is where water will pool. Make sure you drill the holes on the lowest part of the lens! Note: the holes are not visible, just be careful not to drill through the reflector housing. I got this tip from a guy fixing Mercedes headlights.
My '12 Regal has the same issue right now. How is this not a recall? I'm seeing it all over online now that I'm searching.. anyway thanks for this post!
I know right I battle with gm about that on my 2015 buick regal gs beautiful but all that moisture inside the light take away from the looks my daytime running light not working either gm don't see it being a issue don't know why they put these type lights on cars once the daytime running lights blow you have to change the whole assembly not just on buic but all of the new vehicles I end up ordering me a oe headlight for 500 waiting on it to come now they gave me a one year warranty on it I got driver side light changed put by gm right before the warranty went out at 50,000 miles
I have a 2012 Gs the driver side headlight went out and it has alot moisture in it. Now the passenger side blew so i got new bulbs and still no headlights but side marker lights work.i also checked both fuse boxes and my fuses are good .im lost what could it be? Why hasn't buick recalled this issue? Its no after market lights u can by for the Gs model.i went to Dealership in my area and was quoted $1353+ tax for just the headlight and also told its on back order and dont know when they will get more just to keep checking back. My advise is to pass up the Regal Gs model nice cars but headache because u will have that headlight issue.if i had known this i would never have gotten this car
I just went to a mechanic because there is moisture in my 13 regal gs and I also replaced the bulb. He told me that the ballast is the problem absolutely nothing wrong with the bulb itself. I need to get the moisture out of that housing because I’m not trying to spend around $300+ on a headlight.
@@wan2865 its crazy. Very nice cars like i said before but just dont know why Buick never addressed this problem. Nothing against Buick because they make decent cars but this issue u should have addressed.
Question: If one knows what they are doing, how long can you assemble the full assembly for 1 side from start of taking bumper off until finished and bumper back on? Aka estimated time for the job?
Good video, but one thing to note. I’m not sure if the passenger side is different, but I had to remove 4 bolts from the headlight assembly to remove it rather than 3. There are two bolts to remove when you flare the fender out.
I have a 2017 Regal - same side headlight issue, just curious - was there a reason that you didn't try and fix the 'leak' - seems that mine is along the upper edge - had mostly cleared and then we had a deluge and without driving the car the headlight had quite a bit of water.... the unit is so expensive I thought it might be worth the effort...
Thanks for the vid. Helped a lot. Oddly enough, mine had another bolt on the bottom. Almost broke it before I found it. Oh, and GM uses metric sizes. Those bolts are actually 7mm.
Bro, so all the other lights work except for the low beam, did the entire assembly stop working for you? I tried changing the bulb but no luck. Im assuming its a fuse?
Thank you Bryan...I had 1 replacement from dealer...talk about a rip off...$1700 dollars out the door...I have a 2012 Regal GS...Now the other is full of water and out...why would they put the ballast where it fills with water...I will be doing this myself ..thank you again!!!!
Just a PSA. The root cause of my headlight getting water in it was not a good seal on the headlight and the drain beneath the windshield wiper was clogged up so the water went down the hood to the headlight. I ended up changing the ballast.
I found the headlight online for $250 that was the cheapest and was brand new and yes for the GS not base model headlights but still way easier to just repair I have come across this issue recently on my 2012 Regal GS

planned obsolescence because the seal between the clear and black housings failed? Really? It must take millions in research to plan something to fail so precisely out of warranty.
2 years ago I bought brand new headlights for my Pontiac G8 from the dealership. I installed them and they have the exact same problem. They came in boxes that said genuine GM parts. Made in China.
