- Today's adventure is something a little different. The right headlight on my son's car was out. A new bulb did not fix the problem, so that meant it needed a new ballast. Come along for Adventures in car repair!

Same issue. Nice of GM to design it so the headlight assembly ballast(s) are exposed to the environment like that 'huh? Connector corrosion from moisture EVERY dang time!
i guess you have replace the whole assembly to get those day time running lights to work i have one out on passanger side
Hey thanks for watching! I've been traveling, so sorry for the late reply. Yeah, I don't know if any way to change just the day time running lights. They appear to be sealed into the housing itself.
Hey I own a 2012 Buick Regal Gs and I was wondering what kind of bulb you have on bc mine, seems not too bright enough for me to see at night
I don't remember the exact model, but I believe they were Sylvania brand bulbs.
We never really had any problems with bulb brightness. Our problems were keeping ballast alive. My experience... don't go cheap in the ballast. The cheap ones don't last.
Im trying to replace my driver side ballast on my 2012 does the ballast come with the bulb???
I think it depends on where you are buying from. If memory serves, there are some cheap package deals on eBay that are ballast and bulb. My advice, don't buy the cheap ballast. If you can, go for quality from a local part store or other source, but get as close to OEM as possible. After we changed the ballast with the cheap stuff, my son had a strobe light on the passenger side within a couple of months, and nothing on the driver side.
That's where i got em from
Marker lights still work but no headlight it could it be the connector???
It's possible. If the headlight is good on the opposite side, you could pull that bulb out and test the new one in that side. Then you would know if the new cheap bulb was good. Doing some side swapping of components can help you pinpoint what is bad.
Sorry, replied from my personal account. Thanks for watching.
Question: If one knows what they are, doing how long can you assembly 1 side from start of taking bumper off until finished and bumper back on? Aka estimated time for the job?
Once a guys has done it a couple times, it's probably 30 to 45 minutes per side. Thanks for watching.
@@sombeach2450 That is what I roughly estimated.
@@sombeach2450 Thanks!
It's easier to lift off the bumper cover then do the headlights and you won't have to get on the ground and pull the tabs
Great job. Good to know.👍 I have the exact same car. Can he notice a big difference with that air intake. And is it worth it for the money.? Thanks
Hey Joe! Thanks for the comment! The intake was already installed on the car when he bought it, so unfortunately, we don't have a comparison. In general though, a cold air intake, and free flowing air filter, like a K&N, are pretty easy and relativly cheap HP gains. It may only be 5 or 10, but hey, HP is HP. Thanks for watching!
@@baldnationadventures9590 Thanks for getting back to me. I'm just going to order one anyway.😁👍 I see his is a 6-speed manual . Just like mine. The hard to come across in manual. Good luck with the car thanks again.
I think they only offered the 6spd the first 2 or 3 years, then went to all autos. How long have you owned yours? This one has only been in the family just shy of a year, so we are still getting to know it.
@@baldnationadventures9590 I have had it for 6 years. Bought it with 23000 km. I have 77000 km on it now. It's a 2012. I have had zero issues with a car so far. Other than brake pads and oil changes. Amazing car love it. Diamond white.
pro trick : watch movies at Flixzone. Been using them for watching all kinds of movies lately.
how did you get the hid bulb out? mine doesn't want to turn to unlock
Hello Robert, did you get your bulb out? His were tight, but they broke lose. If the bulbs are bad, maybe put a set of channel locks on it to give you some more leverage, and make sure you are twisting the correct direction. I can't remember what direction that is.
@@baldnationadventures9590 I ended up replacing the headlight. Even with the light out, i had to use a screwdriver to unlock and lock the clip holding the bulb in. My hands are too big for the small openings.
There is a Carter pin! Well not Carter, but look. It clamps it on
