    Most beautiful mid-size sedan I've ever seen.

    I am a Ford guy but i just pick up a turbo1 a few weeks back, I checked the Audi A4, BMW 3series, Volvo S60, Acura Tsx and others. For the money I feel this is the best car. On all the others you would have to buy a package to have the same features that this regal offers, with would bring the price "YES" up. So if you want to drive a badge "Euro" is the way to go, for me I just want the most for my money! All cars depreciate and now in days are very well build...

    Fast forward a few years…I bought my perfect condition Regal GS 6-spd used in 2019 and given mileage/condition/price paid I think I got a steal. Based on what I am seeing in the market, I could probably sell it privately right now for exactly what I paid for it from a dealer 4 yrs ago. Also, 8x a year I get someone approaching me in a parking lot wanting to see it. When I bring it in for inspection the 22-yr old techs go crazy over it when they find out it’s a manual - "I didn't know they made these!" is commonly said. I guess my point is this: I wonder if the Regal GS-which didn’t make much of a splash when new, is one of those cars that the sports sedan market is only now discovering after it’s long out of production? Seriously - I have had two people in the last year leave notes on my windshield offering cash…

      I agree with you. It will go up in value . Haven’t seen a manual in a Buick since the 80s. l only like this generation. Love the styling.Essentially a opel insignia. Always wondered if it came in AWD and manual?

    Yes I can validate my purchase. I bought it, love it, I get compliments on it from people at gas stations, to drive throughs to the US customs office who held up 12 cars behind me in line from Tijuana into San Diego to compliment me on it for 3 minutes. I traded in 330i for this, and my Regal kills the 330, hands down. The buttons, you learn. The Intellilink Nav/info system is awesome (could care less about Caddy's CUE). And to compare it with a Passat? ha. Stop the bleeding. Terribly review.

    I agree. I think too many car reviewers take certain aspects of cars and forget everything else. This car is super quiet, rides nicely, and still handles confidently. Who cares about maxing it out through hairpin turns in a race? If you start hearing about "rotation" in a car review for road cars, turn it off. Go drive it yourself. These guys get used to $90,000 cars and can't deal with lower priced cars in comparison.

  • @mikemitchell1637
    @mikemitchell1637 Před 11 lety

    I've driven the GS and I think it's really good, but I do think the price is a little steep for what you get. My advice is this: if you're interested in one, go for it, but DON'T pay the sticker price. I've seen plenty of new or lightly used (demo) for as much as $8K less than the MSRP. I also did have an issue with the IP; the buttons make the dash look very cluttered. The '14 model largely addressed that issue, and the interior as a whole looks better for it.

  • @jimster46
    @jimster46 Před 10 lety

    Would you pick the verano turbo over the Regal and the Honda Accord EX-L V6?

  • @socalguy97
    @socalguy97 Před 11 lety

    I agree with you; it's not a fantastic value. A benchmark, certainly not, but according to all the other journals it's "considered" competitive with the benchmarks. And I do have to tell you, I don't find 270 HP underpowered, or the fact that it's FWD a problem (though you're right, AWD would be fantastic at this price point). My honest opinion, no kidding, I do indeed like it better than the BMW I traded for this. Just has a look and a feel that sits with me I guess. Resale doesn't worry me.

  • @Fatturtleswag
    @Fatturtleswag Před 11 lety

    I agree. Really nice car but the price is a out of bounds for me. In Europe the top model of this platforms has all wheel drive and a turbo V-6 with twin turbos.

  • @thedriversseat
    @thedriversseat  Před 11 lety

    Of course you've seen them listed for $32K because no one will pay $36-40K. My test car was over $40K. Also, it's not fair to compare transaction prices with MSRP. Traditionally, Ford has the highest MSRP but also the deepest discounts to compensate for that.
    Bottom line on the Regal GS is that it's a nice car, but not worthy of the hype that was generated by Detroit-based automotive media.

  • @socalguy97
    @socalguy97 Před 11 lety

    Just one last quibble. Making a competitive comparison between the GS and a Passat is a bit like comparing lobster to crawfish. Motor Trend, Car & Driver, and anywhere else I look compares this car to the TSX, S60, G37, 328i, MKZ and A4. I'll agree with those since I owned two 3 series and an A4. So I'm thinking you're shortchanging this car just a wee bit in that sense. I don't think (and I say think because I'm not sure), but don't think VW shoppers are in the market for something this pricey.

  • @NemarusNetwork
    @NemarusNetwork Před 11 lety

    Why not review the eAssist Regal that comes in the base version? Gets 29 combined mpg which is amazing for luxury vehicles and costs only 30k! Buick buyers don't want or care about high performance, they want something quiet and smooth.

  • @CharlesEakins
    @CharlesEakins Před 11 lety

    Uh the CLA isn't exactly a performer. When you do a comparison, compare what you get for the price, you'll find that the standards that come with the Regal add up to a luxury car.

  • @MrBossuporbowout
    @MrBossuporbowout Před 4 lety

    If it came with say maybe 17 or 18 inch rims it would probably perform better and faster

  • @geosh10
    @geosh10 Před 11 lety

    I sold cars years ago and most people who can afford a 30 to 40k car will not pay full MSRP. Only people with horrible credit or people who want a hot ticket item will pay full MSRP. And they will be looking at a Focus or Cruze not a loaded up Buick. Banks are stingy these days with large loans.
    I actually like the look of this car, if you load up a Caddy ATS with all the features this GS has you will quickly hit near 50k...
    My personal preference would be to side with you and go with the BMW.

  • @brucec43
    @brucec43 Před 11 lety

    Volvo T5 w sport pkg $38,000
    Audi A4 fwd w CVT (bleech) sport pkg and comp. equip $38,000
    BMW 325i comparably equipped (leather, power seats, decent wheels, etc) is over $40,000.
    Passat CC is slower, handles worse, and dealer experience is horrible.
    I don't own this car. But you are not comparing realistic pricing if you think the Regal is overpriced. Where it falls down is resale vs some of the premium brands. But that could change over time if they put out good cars.

  • @ryanmunro7542
    @ryanmunro7542 Před 11 lety

    I think you misunderstand this vehicle, this is the top regal with all the amenities and you're comparing it to bmw and Cadillac which to get what you get in the regal is pushing 50 grand, also buicks goal is luxury first where as Cadillac and BMW is performance first

  • @ronendoron
    @ronendoron Před 11 lety

    Not sure if my article on the GS or the poor rating by Intellichoice would sway you, but you can find it at HopsAndGears (.com)
    I just think it's great that we have so many great front-wheel drive, 250+ horsepower vehicles in America that are relatively affordable and fun to drive. GM should be commended for taking such risk in bringing the GS here. I still think it's a good car, but nowhere near the World Class Sports Sedan that many journalists loved, much like the Fiat 500 Abarth.

    Why the hell do GM need two luxury brands? They let go all the fun brands(we miss you Olds,Pontiac,Saturn). Buicks cost just as much, if not more, as Cadillac. If your gonna cut Pontiac, then you should make Buick the new purely sport/muscle brand. They spend so much money on interior design and detail, but forgot that brands like Pontiac and Mazda had it right all along with inexpensive yet stimulating and encouraging the drive experience type full on sporty interiors. Olds gave us power and not so over the top, stand alone design with a dash of comfort through practical, not meaningless luxury.Saturn was affordable fun while saving gas, it'll kick your ass.

  • @socalguy97
    @socalguy97 Před 11 lety

    Regal isn't full-size. It's midsize. Buick doesn't even have a full-size car anymore--look it up--their flagship, the Lacrosse, is even midsize. I never heard where it competed with the C-class, but I do know it competes with the 3-series (and TSX, S60, A4, MKZ and G37). Those are what all the journals compare it with, and those are what Buick say their competition is. Verano only has one competitor, the Acura ILX because of it's position, and Lacrosse competes w/the ES, and TL.

    By GM's own admission, they missed the mark on the Regal GS (and a correction is coming soon). Instead of an AWD 300hp car, they received this. I just tell the truth. If you want to spend $39,000 of your hard earned money on this car, then be my guest. Call me up in 3 years when your resale value is about 45% of MSRP. Frankly, I don't give a damn how you waste your money. And I haven't seen 1 Regal GS in So Cal which is where they need to be. In general, I like GM cars; just not this one.

    Not exactly a ringing endorsement. Buick needs to win on value if it wants to convince me to look at them instead of Audi, BMW or Mercedes. If I can step into a 320 and win on price against a Buick then my guess is not many will be driving off the lot.

    I've owned a fully-loaded 2103 Regal GS w/Black Diamond Tricoat for 6 weeks now. This car is absolutely fantastic to drive and it looks great! Numerous people, including a couple of BMW and Audi owners, have come up to me and asked..."that's a Buick?" I receive positive comments from people nearly every day as I am driving out and about. The Regal GS turns heads, including the heads of the European sports sedan owners.

    I do. I live in L.A. I absolutely agree with you. I don't see the Regal GS here at all, nor do I see the IS F. But that's actually what I love about this car--I'm the only one on the road with it. It's really unique, and I get a ton of "what is that car?"--the stares and the actual question. I think it's really cool, lol. Everyone here has a 3-series or an A4, and those are as common to see on our roads as Civics and Corollas are in a place like Pittsburgh. I don't blend in that's for sure.

    I had a 2010 cobalt ss turbo and I was looking forward to this car when it came out. I test drive one and loved it but I could not justify the price considering its very similar to the cobalt. Similar in FWD 2.0T, but better looking and better interior. I no longer have the cobalt, traded it in for a 13 mx5 but I'm still looking at one of these... But used. Used I think these at mid 20s will sell well.

  • @thedriversseat
    @thedriversseat  Před 11 lety

    Agreed, but that's like comparing a fully-loaded Camaro SS to a stripped out 1LE. They will cost roughly the same, but the 1LE uses its budget to make that vehicle a track car where the SS uses it for bells & whistles. It comes down to what your car-buying priorities are.

  • @L30NHART
    @L30NHART Před 11 lety

    I agree with you about the price range too. Its a nice car, but it seems like every where I go, the GS and the ATS are sometimes priced the same. I guess it really comes down to personal preference between Caddy and Buick

  • @ThousanWhite
    @ThousanWhite Před 11 lety +1

    To be fair, a fully loaded ATS Turbo costs $5,000 more than a fully loaded Regal GS. I see that as being a pretty significant price difference. Bottom line---I don't think the argument holds up at all that the Regal GS is overpriced if you're comparing it to the ATS in that light.

    Not a review. It's the GS hater and he's back with his 2013 GS commentary. Ironic since virtually everyone that drives the GS, absolutely loves it. A GS with the six speed manual, GS mode enabled, 20" Pirelli p zero tires and good weather, is a great driving experience. The car does not drive like a typical FWD vehicle. You can push the car through the twisties and it holds the road. The brakes are outstanding as well. This is a driving enthusiasts vehicle. IMO, well worth the price.

  • @ghettoalero1
    @ghettoalero1 Před 10 lety +8

    This review is misleading and full of blah blah blah. Go price out the BMW or Mercedes with comparable options to the GS. You'll find a huge amount of bang for your buck with the GS. Both BMW and Mercedes come with a much higher price tag with comparable options. Also, can you run the BMW and Mercedes on regular fuel, or only premium. GS runs great on any. I believe the CLA boost well over 40K just to get a proximity key.

    • @thedriversseat
      @thedriversseat  Před 10 lety

      You may want to take a closer look at MSRP, Resale Value, Warranty and brand equity, not to mention ride quality. The Buick brand, while respectable, does not compare to BMW or Mercedes-Benz in the U.S. A fully loaded GS now exceeds $42,000. Three years from now you will struggle to find a buyer for the GS, but selling the CLA or 320i will be a breeze. It's your call and your money. If you feel confident in your ability to defend your purchase, then buy the GS. We just wanted to point out that its pricing is not inline with what luxury buyers are seeking.

    • @svtcarboy
      @svtcarboy Před 10 lety

      A very well, but selectively, equipped Regal can be had for under $40,000 MSRP. Brand equity is for snobs, and since I'm not looking to sell the car after only 3 years, I don't care whether or not someone will want to buy him. Even though the 320i is outgunned, it's $3000 more expensive than the GS once you add the sport package, premium package, xenon headlights, folding rear seat and other options that are standard on the Buick. The CLA is no bargain either when optioned up, and it's a size class smaller inside.

    • @svtcarboy
      @svtcarboy Před 10 lety +1

      PussMag I don't see the BMW 320i as a higher-end car. Even at $42K - $43K, it's not as well equipped, it's significantly down on power and torque, it's smaller inside for passengers and cargo... it's not competitive as an overall package. When you hold cars for 8 - 10 years and 160,000 to 180,000 miles - nothing is going to be worth very much anyway, and the time value of money will further diminish any advantage compared to the difference in new prices.

  • @glsracer

    The problem is that the USA got the shaft in the powertrain department. The Opel and Vauxhall versions have a turbo V6 and AWD. Had they brought that version here I would have seriously considered it. Also in my eyes a large number of dashboard buttons is desired and not at all confusing. Currently my make of choice is Volvo since Saab is six feet under...

    The problem I have with the review is there's not a lot of talk about the actual performance other than straight line acceleration. No mention of how it actually handles, brakes...no mention of the suspension, body roll, steering feel. And you failed to mention that at the tested price the car is fully loaded! The cars you mentioned at a lower price point would sticker for over $40K when optioned similarly (I know because I checked). Oh, and you can get an auto or manual at no charge.

    I don't own either car, but I have tested both. The biggest difference between the two (besides rear wheel drive from front wheel drive) is that when you load up the Cadillac ATS with the available 3.6L engine, and go to the top of the line model with no options, it is priced at $47,600. If you go to the top of the line Buick Regal, which is this car, it is $36,000 to $40,000. The Cadillac goes much higher than this Buick does... you are comparing a mid-level Cadillac to the top of the Buick.

In terms of size, the CLA is closer to the Verano, and you can get a fully-loaded, more powerful Verano Turbo for the same money as a BASE model CLA. Or, you can get a Regal Turbo Premium I for just a little bit more. The GS starts at just under $36K, but I've seen them listed for a lot less ($32K is the lowest I've seen for new, $29K for demos), so maybe THEN I would compare it to a CLA.

    I'll give you that one--300 HP, AWD, that'd make for one hell of a nice car--agreed. But I'm going to quibble with you on resale value, and for two reasons.1. I think anyone in the market for a car of this price doesn't have to care about resale value. If it matters, then you can't afford it. 2. No kidding, someone I know traded in an '04 lesabre with 248,000 miles on it, and the dealer turned around and actually sold it for $6999 (unreal). I'm not thinking resale is that bad anymore for Buick.

    It would of been more helpful if you reviewed the vehicle itself, than trying to compare it's price point to other cars in the market, and what your perceived value of the vehicle are.

    The Regal GS seems to be the most controversial vehicle in our library. Too many people are seeking validation for their purchase decisions. Honestly, I don't care, but this car is NOT worth $38K. I am seriously just trying to help out the shoppers out there. You can choose to believe publications who take advertising dollars from car companies or choose to believe me. I can't be bought. This is my honest opinion after spending a week with the Regal GS.

    I bought a 13/ Buick Regal GS in April most fun, comfortable, fast/not great off the line but give it about 1 sec. to scroll-up and your gone. Best car I have owned since my 1970 Pontiac Grand Prix SJ/455ho. I simply love it, lmfgfmf.

      After viewing/reading a large number of reviews, I am convinced this is a car you either "get" or you don't. The best car I ever owned was my 1998 SVT Contour, another performance variant of a European transplant. So far in test drives this car appears to have a lot in common, but when mine arrives I will know for sure.

    Underpowerd, Underpowered, and did I mention, underpowered? There is a reason why Buick has the GNX trademark logo kept like gold. Use it and rebirth the GNX in a 350 horse rear wheel drive american v6 turbo............... Oh yeah, all black please......

    This guy doesn't get it. The car comes FULLY loaded for less than 40K. I'm getting one and it only lacks the 20s and it's less than $38K. Option out any of the cars he's mentioned in this segment like the GS and I guarantee you they'll be atleast this price or more, especially the Germans. And as far as performance, all he talks about is the acceleration. No mention of the handling during aggressive driving, braking, understeer, body roll, steering feel...nothing. And this is a car review?!

  • @eternalhalloween1
    @eternalhalloween1 Před 9 lety

    I am not trashing American cars. I usually try to go American. But if Buick keeps heading in this direction, they are going to make it easier for the Koreans and Japanese to take over the auto market.
    $38,000.-$40,000? WHAT IS THIS CAR OFFERING FOR ALL THAT?
    For 20 grand less, you could get a Hyundai Sonata which gives you 40 miles to the gallon. For 5 grand less, you could get a Toyota Prius which gives you 50 mpg.
    And while we're at it, you could get a VW Passat for almost 10 grand less.

  • @svtcarboy
    @svtcarboy Před 10 lety

    Disagreed with your market analysis. If you don't want a stripped car with vinyl upholstery, the Cadillac ATS is a price class more expensive, and a size class smaller inside. BMW, you have to step up to a 328i to be competitive, and again, that takes you into a higher price class. CLA is a size class smaller, and once you equip it, is no cheaper than a Regal GS. The Volkswagen CC I consider to be a direct competitor with the non-GS Regal models, and I was rather impressed, though it lacked competitive power and handling to the GS, but the lack of a sliding moonroof and no glass roof at all with a manual killed it for me.
    I looked far and wide to find a car that delivers what the Regal GS does for under $40K, and there simply wasn't anything that delivered the total package. That is why I just ordered a 2014 from the factory. I hold onto cars to the point nothing is going to be worth very much, so resale is not a consideration for me.

      svtcarboy I agree with you wholeheartedly . First of all if these guy's would read the manuel before they test they just might learn a thing or 2. Check what th manuel say's about the 3 diff. setting's for susp., they would also find that setting's for trans. and motor change to more aggressive modes, and it doe's make a diff. Bought the /13 because I wanted the 270 hp. motor, driven over a year and 16,000 miles. One minor prob. but was taken care of by my local dealer,they were great about taking care of me. The more I drive it the more I like it. and you can't buy one of the other brand's w/same eqpt.,for under$ 10,000$more.I wish you the best w/ your /14, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do my /!13. Brand image is this cars problem. People arent going to spend 30k-40k on a Buick, no matter how good it looks, when they can purchase a BMW or Mercedes for the same money. This car has to be priced cheaper. GM has dug itself into a hole with Buick in the last few decades and charging so much money for a new, better looking one with European design against BMW's with the same price is not going to gain them any followers.
