- As you know I am a massive fan of the G-Shock Metal Square series. I have owned the GMW B-5000 1DR for 12 months now and want to give you a thorough update on my findings and highlight and damage it has picked up.
I don’t use this watch for the gym but do use it on a regular basis when at work or out and about. There are some interesting findings. You may wonder if the metal squares are durable? Well this video will help you make up your mind.

Thanks for the update. I think it looks better with the wear marks. Gives it character and a story. The only part I worry about damaging is the display.
Yes most G-Shocks look better with some battle scars I agree. The screens very rarely get scratched in my experience, only ony of my black GA-2100 has a tiny ding. Thanks for dropping by good Sir!
Thanks for the great review. Have a couple of these. I don't mind the wear and tear as it gives a character.
I absolutely agree. Same with all G-Shocks in my opinion, just shows you are using them for what they were designed for ;) Cheers!
I have a few squares with no metal bezels but I keep coming back and getting tempted to this model
It's a highly capable watch and what sets it aside from the resin bezel squares is that it genuinely looks good in smart casual clothes. So if you need that element definitely consider it. Cheers!
Beautiful piece, love the half metal factor to the classic sqaure look.
However, does it scratched easily? Would the silver party beneath the black coating expose upon scratch?
Good question. I have one very minor scratch on mine in the bezel area but it doesn’t show silver underneath. You have to look close to notice it.
An icon of a brand and the square will be a fashion statement until the end of time..perhaps infinity. Great video!
Absolutely David. It will never go out of fashion. It's also damn tough and practical. Thanks for the comment!
Historians say cockroaches will survive beyond the end of humans. And those little cockroaches will be rocking our G-Shock Squares after we're gone, too! ;-))
@@thumperjdm haha, one of the best comments to date. Totally agree :)
Finally someone who really travels timezones, liked 👅
Cheers :)
Thanks for the review. I'm getting mine and wanted to know how the metal will hold up. It still looks great after 12 months.
Indeed it does, and I admittedly don't put a lot of effort into protecting mine and it still looks great. It's a superb watch, you won't be disappointed. The G-Shock Connected App is a really cool feature you should play around with once you get it. Cheers!
Planning to get this one, upgrade from GW-5000 to this, coz of the larger buttons and it's blacked out and also the Bluetooth connection 👌
Thanks for the review
Man you will not be disappointed. Particularly the Bluetooth takes it up a whole new level of practicality. I didn't think I would use the connected app so much but now it is one of my favorite elements of the watch. Enjoy it, let me know how you get on. Cheers!
The blue light... Why? Good lighting would make a huge difference
Good feedback Bob thanks. I'm always looking for ways to improve my videos so this it much appreciated. Cheers!
@@stormrider1119 good luck with your future videos!
I watched a few of your videos before I recently bought this model myself. I don’t think there’s many new ones left since they were discontinued quite a while ago.
How’s the wear and tear on the bezel and band now? Nearly time for a two year update!
Good question. It’s doing great. This watch is a classic and strong. I only have positive things to say about it.
I was thinking recently how much I could utilise a metal square, specifically like the one in the stormrider English countryside video, i.e. this one. It looks so attractive, discreet and the display so clear - it's my favourite square G. It's a pity at the price it doesn't have sapphire, but I'm guessing the crystal is very tough and better quality than the mineral used in the resin Gs.
I really don't think you will have an issue with the glass on this. It's a beautiful watch, ideal for smart casual and travel because of Bluetooth. Thanks for the comment man.
Great, I've been waiting to see a review from a long term user of one of these for ages. Thank you
Put it this way, it hasn't disappointed. Cheers...
@@stormrider1119 Thanks, saved me 20 minutes 😂
@@stevenkelby2169 haha. Cheers man. Yes it's a great watch, love it, use it regularly, the metal bezel does pick up a bit of scratching and dings if you aren't careful but to be expected. Cheers man...
@@stormrider1119 Thanks for the reply, keep up the good work 🍻 👍
Good wear update. Having a metal square with IP coating, I'm wary of the sharp edges on the bezel taking damage. I'm not a fan of wabisabi for this kind of watch, so I protect it under long sleeves where possible. Like you, I prefer a resin bezel watch for working out.
It may seem silly, but I'm thinking of getting a cheaper metal bezel from aliexpress so that takes the damage, and keep the original elsewhere.
Not a bad idea at all to get a second metal bezel to keep the original in good condition. Just so long as the alternative looks decent.
Thanks for the comment man, really appreciate it... Cheers
If only the resin bezel of gwm 5610 or gw 5000 fits perfectly with this watch, i would also switch that immediately.
Does anyone problem band screw nut sliding back and forward even it was tight all the way down?
I've never seen that or heard of it. Definitely sounds like an issue, take it to your Casio dealer, the watch may be under warranty if there is a problem
My steel square on bracelet does that too.
There is a small amount of play in the screw pin.
I guess it is engineered that way.
This or the GW 5000? I can get them at relatively the same price?
I'd be tempted to say GW simply because I like the more 'stealth look' of that model. But it really depends what your style and priorities are, try and try them both on at a mall first if possible. Let me know what you decide. Cheers!
Thanks for nice review
Is this soft band like gw 5000?
Correct, it's pretty much the same in looks although I think it may be of a higher quality and less perishable rubber. But I don't know for certain.
do the scratch marks show silver of the steel or black ?
Good question. Because it isn't deep on mine it looks black...
@@stormrider1119 ah, oh great.. thank you.
Black permanent marker will hide minor scratches.
Why metal case? Why?? There will be scratches all over the place after some time, no doubt. I wonder if there is cheap resin case fits that module. I wantt this watch, damn
No resin rot. The metal will be strong forever.
I bet you could touch up those scratches with an automotive touch up paint pen. You just need to find a black metalic? paint thats close.
Yes Ive been contemplating getting those dings fixed. It's the kind of watch that suits being super clear with no scratches. I'll look into the pens you mention. Cheers!
You talk to much I've got tired, talk to the point...
Yes sorry man, I definitely ramble sometimes, just how my brain works. Appreciate it doesn't work for everyone. Cheers for the feedback...
