    The Sundance/Shadow along with the K cars, especially the Wagons, are becoming a VERY popular build with the teens and young 20 somethings. My cousin had a 2 door 91 Sundance in high school in the early 2000's that he gave his daughter when she turned 16 and they are building it while she drives it. I'm going to paint it, orginally it was that 90's seafoam green with the grey interior but I'm going to surprise her and paint it Plum Crazy with some grey graphics on the hood and and lower body, she's a good kid and does really really good in school and got a full ride scholarship to college to play softball

      Makes sense, since they can be bought for next to nothing. Still though, I have not seen a SINGLE Sundance at a meet or show anywhere that wasn't mine. The plum crazy paint sounds cool, I'm sure she'll be psyched for that.

      @@HatersGarage There are many different transmissions you can go with... A525 is the transmission you want to avoid. Too weak!
      A555, A568 are the performance transmissions...
      A520 and A523 transmissions are also strong enough for the turbo.
      LSD for these transmissions is also somewhat cheap!

    My 2nd car is a 1985 LeBaron convertible with a full turbo swap from a 1989 Daytona Turbo 2.5... A555 Manual transmission and forged internals. The last owner messed up and installed a slider cam with roller followers, and recently kicked off one of the intake valve followers. Will swap out the valvetrain components ASAP as I have to get back to boostin'!

    best way to think of an engine is an air pump. whatever makes air move through it as efficiently as possible, and makes compression as efficient as possible, and reduces inate vibration from reciprocal mass, is good for the engine. makes it more powerful, more energy efficient, lets it rev higher, increases responsiveness, and reduces reciprical mass without compromizing load bearing strength and integrity, is good.

    I bought and sold tons of Chrysler products like this...I took a Shadow just like this car to the track once,it was a 1987 2.2 Turbo 5 speed bone stock 6 year old car it felt quick it ran upper 14's! For a bone stock 146 hp 2.2 Turbo she went real good..The road tests by magazines wouldnt bring the rpm up and just floor it and the Turbo lag was bad on these took until 10 mph before it came on,so 0-10 killed most road test results you see of these Chrysler Turbo cars...The 2.5 Turbo the Turbo lag was much less!
    I did personally own a 1986 Shelby Charger 2.2 Turbo and it also ran high 14's some magazines were running 15 -15.20 with them,but when you knew how to spool up the turbo on launch and handle the tire spinning and take off you will run high 14's with a bone stock 146 hp version..What I noticed the Turbo's would fail and they slowly lost power,I bought so many that the performance were off..I always rebuilt them if the performance was not where it should be.

    • @HatersGarage
      @HatersGarage  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Yeah they definitely would have benefited from launch control. Of course that wasn't really a thing back then, so the driver did matter a lot like you said. They could get away with making the car so much lighter and simpler than modern cars, without the EPA and safety regulation restrictions we have today. So even though they're low tech, they're still quick even by today's hot-hatch standards.
      I've modernized mine quite a bit, it's going to have launch control and flat foot shifting to keep the lag down. I can also run E85 if I want to. But the engine itself is still not much more complex than a lawn mower engine, lol.

    I love that you're taking 'the hard road' to a turbo dodge. Granted, megasquirt upside. But this might hold the record for 'most work to reach stock turbo power level' which i dont mean in a bad way at all, its taking the road that most turbo dodge owners simply could not follow because they don't have the skill or determination to get there. Anyway, guess ill watch the other ones now.. I've built a bunch of turbo dodges and done 5 auto to manual swaps on them etc etc.. curious to see how far this car goes!

  • @ashiehakoto1490
    @ashiehakoto1490 Před 7 měsíci

    assuming the plymouth Sundance was bone stock in the 1/8th before turbo, 13.2 really isn't bad at all. I guesstimate it would run the quarter at around 18 seconds at between 78-86mph. still not bad for a cheap late 80's 4 cylinder econobox that doesn't, or barely makes 100hp, and maybe 80ft/lbs.
    for small displacement low output motors, torque is the more important power figure for acceleration. easiest way to make more power and torque across the board is to boost the compression. you just need to shave the head and level the deck a very small amount, just to reduce the combustion chamber area, which will increase compression. wouldn't go more than 8 thousanths on the head. aside from that, honing the bore, better forged aluminum pistons, ring gapping, and balancing pistons, conrods, and crank to keep the reciprocationg mass smooth and reduse vibration, will allow a higher RPM.
    porting and polishing, balanced cam, lifters, and valves, new valve springs, gapping the spark, and a bit of grinding on the intake and exaust manifold to smooth the surfaces and bend transitions to reduce flow turbulence....

    • @HatersGarage
      @HatersGarage  Před 7 měsíci +2

      I've done the whole nine yards with this engine apart from forged pistons and a cam. I've gapped the rings loose, installed t2 rods, rerouted the cylinder head coolant line for better cooling on cylinder #4, some cylinder head porting, and the Megasquirt ECU.
      Right now the most annoying thing is how annoying it is to service the turbo. It's buried way up in there where you can't get to it, I'm considering a rear mounted turbo.
