The reason the car in front of you had an easier time is because it has pop-up up-and-down headlights. You should install some of those on your E30 and you’ll find drifting much easier and break fewer parts.

@@HatersGarage Great drifting for your first time out bro!!!!! My Brother inlaw drifts and the first thing some people told him on the track was to put way more air pressure in the rears and don't be scared of using the handbrake into drifts he has 17inch rims and put 65-75 psi in them, it could help a bit if you haven't tried that yet but either way keep putting out this great content mate!!! I seriously enjoy it

My recommendation is to let go of the wheel so that the tires set straight again. You are strong arming the wheel too much, wearing yourself out, and putting extra strain on your tie rods hahah. Good job though!
Since this an IX e30, the shock towers are different so it has much less caster. The wheel does center itself but very slowly. So I give it a flick to spin it around

Yeah, the towing the car isn't about the wheels so much as the weight distribution. It's front engine, so there's more mass up there. That combined with the driveline drag makes it overall more stable. Though if you had a full trailer, you also wouldn't want to park the car on backward, at least not to the point where the front tires are any amount behind the axles of the trailer. And if you parked two cars on a trailer, you'd do both with the engine side forward.

Not sure if anyone posted this, but lock the steering wheel when dollying backwards like that. Should prevent the sway. I've been told not to as well, but have dollied many cars backwards with the wheel locked and never had an issue
I had the steering lock on, the tow strap was just extra. It was fine until I got up to 65 mph, that's when the swaying started
your wheel alignment is toed out when you tow backwards, its never going to be stable at high speed.
@@Steinerrides That's normally the case but the toe is set negative on this car

Nice one! Just add a little bit of negative camber to the rear ( -1.5 or 2° ), thats gonna make the slide way better. And if you can add a toe out to the frontend to get the car more accurate.

As for the rest of the video: Get some orange off-brand thread locker from Advanced auto. It's stronger than blue, but doesn't require heat to remove like red. I used it in the driveshaft of my Ranger and it's held for 2 years, haven't even checked it after the 500 mile re-torque. For the tires, if it's consistently the driver's rear that goes first and it happens going either direction on the track (looked like a balanced track, TBH), then you have a corner balancing issue. And since you're a man who works with a low budget but good craftsmanship, I suggest building your own spring preloading adjuster with some kind of tophat plate, an all-thread rod, and a jam nut setup.
Other than that, it looks like it has enough angle and power for you at this level, so work on "supporting mods" like brake pads, lines, fluid, spare wheels and tires, etc. If you wanna get experimental you could rig up a very fine-spray tire mist system which should keep your tires cooler and lasting longer while drifting. I say fine spray so it doesn't make the track wet, after all you don't wanna be responsible for ruining other peoples' lines. BTW the Japanese do this, particularly in their FWD drift cars (yeah really, look them up) and it seems to work well. Imagine tripling the life of a set of tires, haha.
Yeah I should have used thread locker, I will on the new bolts. As far is tire wear on the left I'm not sure yet, I'll try it again on another course and see if it wears faster again. There is too much camber in the rear, I would be able to maintain a lot more speed and my tires would last longer with a better contact patch. Unfortunately there's no easy way to adjust rear camber on a E30, so I'll have to rig something up.
@@HatersGarage Well, IIRC you already modded your knuckles for angle, so you might as well mod your UCAs with a threaded adjuster kinda like a tierod.
@@Drunken_Hamster I am probably going to do something like that, I also may cut the shock towers out and install ones from a normal e30 since the IX towers are basically straight up and down

@@HatersGarage Oh yeah, they're Macpherson front and semi-trailing arm rear... Damn. Well, this is a far more "out there" mod, but if you can put some modern double ball joint or Revoknucle style Macpherson front on there and E39 M5 rear suspension, you'd be in business for pretty much having the perfect setup as far as better geometries and adjustability goes.
But IMO, if you're going to replace the suspension and change the type of suspension, I'd go straight for building a custom De-Dion rear axle with a Satchell Link. I think that'd even be simpler to retrofit than trying to put in another IRS car's rear suspension.
As for what settings to go for on the front (and this kinda ties into the retrofit) you wanna keep similar arm angles, but do what you can to get at least 6 degrees of caster, if not 8-10. You also want to reduce KPI to be no more than 3/2 your caster angle, otherwise, the KPI will fight the caster and reduce its effect where you need it most.
Once you have enough caster and the right caster/KPI ratio, you shouldn't need a crapload of static camber. Instead, work on reducing Ackerman below 40% so your trailing wheel drags less and your steering angles are closer to the average "true" angle than not.

when towing with a dolly like that you're supposed to take the driveshaft out or else you can burn up your transmission, we had a car come in the shop i work at because the guy did that and we replaced the whole transmission
Usually that's just automatics, manuals are splash lubricated and are usually fine

Since my e30 is a 325IX I don't think that swap is as easy for me, I don't mind the loose steering anyway though

Man, I wish I had a set of coilovers on my first e30. I bought it specifically to drift and the one event I went to, it wouldn't break loose. I had a 4.10lsd and stripped the entire car down to 2400lbs. Was pretty disappointing. I ended up swapping a m30b35 into it and eventually sold it.
The lsd's in these cars are garbage, they're only 25% lock. you have to weld them to drift

Blew my 03 crv trans drifting it, on dirt , either the front diff or trans but park makes rock tumbler noises so yeah. Hopefully I can do it with a Buddys das for a couple hundred instead of a shop
