As a Chinese person- these things are driven by elders in rural areas- 3rd or 4th tier cities. Old folks can get away with these without a license, and police can't really do anything about the recklessness (The concept of throwing a 70+ yr old bloke into prison for operating a motor vehicle without a license doesn't quite work in my country, unfortunately.)
(Edit: These were absolute piles of s**t when they were new. They are "like" cars in terms of styling and shape, but that's it. Slightly warmer than a bike was the whole point of these things. Some are still made today, but they are gradually getting banned in cities with higher population.)
that sounds like a great time to get drunk and watch the action unfold on a friday night
I would think police in China can do whatever they want.

Everyone should drive a real POS every now and then, just to appreciate what they have.
Reminds me of the original Yugo's... About $1800 US...
Shoot, my car’s rusting away and getting so bad that the rear axle is held on by hopes and dreams, but after seeing this one I really appreciate what I have.
I really appreciated the LADA my uncle had in the 90s after dealing with a couple of these...
Fond memories of my late 70's Caprice Classic that belched smoke from the carburetor on a daily basis. Bertha broke down on the pike one time. But she was a tank.

No matter what it is still transportation. Back in the early 70s I’d buy a $100 beater with rusted through floors and bald tires. Still got me to work in the snow.
My first car was a 1978 Dodge Arrow GT. (standard transmssion). The only thing holding it together was the rust and a coupla rolls of duct tape. Drove it for almost 2 years before it kicked the bucket. Now almost 40 years later I drive a Mustang. Vroom...vroom.

Don't forget the venerated Honda 600 wasn't much different than that

Yeah, but our hoopties were _American made_ hoopties, made out of actual steel. I once bought a Pontiac Tempest for $50 and drove it for four months til the transmission shat the bed. Then I put the seats in my Nova.
I had a 71 Honda AN600. It was a 600 cc 2 cylinder air cooled motorcycle engine. First one with transaxle. It was fun to drive. It would fit into the bed of a 1/2 ton. They were chain drive previous years. This was Hondas first cars in U.S.. Which became the Civic. It looked like a Mini Cooper. Drove it for 2 years for fun.
I drove one in Australia for 3 years . Such a great little car , even got blue lighted once. The cops were having a laugh.
The Honda 600 would be a 53 year old car now. Rules have changed. It couldn't be imported today.
Also like the Honda Z (Zot) ??
I always wanted the Z600.

I just lost my best friend of 20 years this last weekend and I drove his 2023 GR Corolla to his funeral. We done lots of upgrades on it. It is now almost 400HP. I had to give that car at least one good run for him. He was a car and motorcycle guy. Also big time into guns. I got his little 2023 GR Corolla up to 150 MPH on the way back from his funeral. He never has maxed it out like that so I had to see what it could do. He liked going fast on back roads i only seen him hit 125MPH in it. I had to show him what it could do. He was so proud of that car. I really take pride in my work. He only trusted me touching his cars. I also did work on all his cars. But the GR Corolla was the fun car. The man always told me I was a genius. He will be missed.
The Gr Corolla is a 1.6 Three cylinder and we got almost 400HP at the crank.
the 2024 Buick Envista has the same 3 cylinder engine, but the size is 1.2 liter. It is a crossover, but it is affordable for the price point. This car cost 22,000$, 25,000$ for the St version, 29,000$ for the Avenir version, which is a top model offered in buick

No, the rear logo implies GAC Group. The steering wheel logo looks like a cross between GAC Group and Foton (GAC Group has had many subsidiaries and manufactured vehicles for Honda, Toyota, Mitsubishi, etc.)
Many of these subsidiaries have come and gone over the years; presumably this vehicle is obsolete or discontinued within the past few years.
This type of car is for pensioners; they give away their nice car to the grandkids so they can have something decent for college/starting off their lives.
This car minimizes expenses, lasts a few years. When the owner passes away, either someone in the family will take the car or give it away to another pensioner.
The car doesn't need to last forever; just longer than the people owning it. Then it either gets chopped for parts or scrapped like a disposable product to make a new disposable cheap mini-car.

It seemed like it had a lot of power compared to my first car, 62 Belaire wagon with straight 6, standard shift. I bought it for 200 dollars in 71, I remember telling my dad a couple days after I got it how easy it was to shift, I could even put in 1st gear and take my foot off the clutch, and it would just idle. It took me a couple blocks to get up to 30 MPH. Years later dad told me that is what he liked about it; he knew I would not be racing it around. I learned to drive in my dad's 66 chevy truck with straight 6 standard shift and it was much harder to shift because the clutch wasn't shot but I didn't know that at the time.
Ray It starts with a pull cord like a lawnmower. Lauren has a great sense of humour 😂😂
The prototype 2CV (French Citroen, designed to be a simple car for rural use) had a 600 CC engine with a pull starter next to the steering wheel. The design specification was that "an elegantly dressed woman" should be able to start the car with "2 or 3" pulls. This was in the late 1930's, so not having an electric starter or battery would significantly reduce costs and maintenance.
Be sure to sharpen the blade every 1000 miles.
If you added a chrome exhaust tip to it, it should, in theory, go faster.
A chrome tip would add at least 20,000 horsepower.

Your "like a moped scooter" analogy is on point. In many parts of Europe, cars like this are (or were) available. They have limited registrations, and are not allowed on highways. They can be operated with a limited license and most of the ones I remember seeing were driven by older folks on limited incomes in rural areas. They aren't much, but it beats walking or riding a moped in bad weather.
It's really for drunks with DUI to skirt their license revocation
@@dougsrosen maybe in the US but European culture is different when it comes to intoxication. DUI are likely to carry a more strict sentence than it does here in the US where it can skirted like you said.

I installed AC onto the three cylinder Geo and it barely had enough omf to get out of its own way. Then there was the chevette diesel with drum brakes, would not go, would not stop and barely made cold air.
Many years ago my sister owned a Datsun 210 that had AC. When you switched on the AC you'd think the car was just kicked in the junk.
A/c = fan and open window
Just a word of caution here. When dealing with the car battery, make your last connection to the negative/ground side last. Why: as you were tightening the positive connection your body is against the car body and that body is now already connected to the negative since you already connected it so the only thing preventing you from getting shocked is your clothing and a layer of paint. Do the negative last but do not put your self between the negative terminal and the negative wire to be attached. Wear heavy gloves is a great idea as well.
PS: thank for the cheep car review. I had a 4 cylinder with 4 speed stick shift Chevy Monza in the 1980's and it went pretty good. No AC, no power brakes, no power steering either, but it got great gas mileage. Can't imagine a 2 cylinder engine in that car....
No worries. There's no chance of getting shocked by 12v unless you're soaked in salt water.
@@NatenNator 12 volt from a 12 volt lantern battery is not the same as 12 from a car battery. It is the amperage that will kill you. Yes, it is possible to get electrocuted by a car battery. Car batteries produce high voltage electrical currents, which can be dangerous if not handled properly. It's important to follow safety precautions when working with car batteries, such as wearing insulated gloves and using insulated tools to prevent electric shock. Other then if your skin is very dry you are like a bunch of salt water, and salt water will conduct very well. Weak heart, or sweating are all combinations of death by car battery.
Yes, it's the amperage that kills. 12v is not enough voltage to push that much current through your body because the resistance is too great. I worked as a car electronics technician before getting into building access control. I touched the 12v constant on vehicles every day as well as the positive terminal of the battery and body of many of the vehicles I worked on. Never got so much as a tingle. If you drop a metal tool across those terminals, yeah, you get enough amperage to melt the tool but it's running through the tool that has very low resistance relative to your body. Just because a battery is capable of putting out 60A doesn't mean it's always going to or it will melt quite a few wires in the car. You have to have a load to move that current.
Right procedure, wrong reason. The danger comes from shorting the positive battery terminal to the grounded car body with your tool and having the current turn your wrench red hot or do worse to the battery. [reworded a bit]
@@tactileslut true as well. About 3 years ago I did a dumb one and had to disconnect the battery that was under the the back seat with the car all wet and me wet and sweaty and the interior carpet soaked wet. I used a battery bale as my last connection to disconnect the battery and connected it to ground bare solid metal of the car and the ground of the battery as I removed the ground wire from the battery to the other only ground of it from the car frame/body, then unclipped the battery jumper did this wearing heavy leather gloves as well. I had a heart attack some 12 years before and did not want to shock myself dead..
Longest red light ever haha "good God please turn green so nobody I know sees me....or a cop stops us"
It makes the French 2CV look good. I remember having a Korean Daewoo Matiz as a courtesy car.. it had all the features like ac and power steering , but the 3 cylinder 850cc engine was scary , being chased down by 44 ton tipper lorries.
Scary build quality, I could see daylight down by the pedals too. Welding worse that a home made box trailer.
Matiz is better. Still slow and quite bad handling compared to other small cars.
2cv doesnt have ac
I assume you're from the UK. A 850 Matiz can surpass 80MPH with the hammer down. Unless those lorries broke the law and ran without speed limiters, there's no way they would be chasing you.
A 2CV would struggle past 65MPH and lose speed on the slightest of inclines.
@@ferongr On the flat with one person it can do 85. But we had one as a loan car, for a holiday in hilly Wales. Loaded with two people and stuff ….. Joining a duel carriageway up hill it failed to accelerate to 60 mph

Nice to see Dave really coming out of his shell! We love you Dave!
"Dave's not here!"
Hahahaha
What happened to the other guy?
@@lose2livehe went to do his own thing 😎
Where’s Troy? If he’s no longer, would appreciate the reason. Thanks.
That thing is pretty cool!
The 4x4 tire pressure gauge is most likely prior owner install.
The vibration of this engine must be spectacular, every single screw leaving it's place 👌👍

@@Kartraceone LOL ok, the fiat 500 I owned had a tiny 4 cylinder. Maybe those other two cylinders were fake.
Here in Europe(maybe only in Estonia) these things are a hit. These things can be driven here by people without drivers licence(even people having their licence revoked for DIY). Recent law dictates that people who drive these things, have to use a sign on them, which indicates a "slow vehicle", usually used on farm tractors. But nevertheless, people around here use them even if they cost about 2500 units, more than a "normal" car...
2500 units?
2500 dollars or euros. And those are the cheap ones, there are models that go for 5000 or more. I myself have a 300euro Audi, which is 30 years old and will serve me well I think at least 10 more years. And it's cheap to maintain, don't have to sell a kidney to change the oil or whatever. Year ago changed the clutch for 100.@@tfm-kq2jt
So what is the make and model of the car? Activa seems to be the model but who makes it?
Not the same thing. Microcars in Estonia are way higher quality.
You are speaking about "LIGIER" or other brand of "microcars" ... driven by a small diesel-engine. Indeed no speed above 45km/h ... but I know a lot of people that are very pleased with those vehicles.
And YES ... they are quite expensive. Too expensive in my opinion.
Watched another video where you had to replace an alternator on a modern car. Parts and labour were about $600. Your labour estimator said it would take 1.8 hours because you basically have to disassemble the engine bay to get at the alternator and you're bagging this little gem.
The alternator in this little nugget would take all of 5 minutes to replace because of the exceptional access you have in the engine bay.
As for pollution. It has 2 cylinders, that's a motorcycle engine and if you were in China and had been getting around on a push bike or horse and cart, this would be a definite upgrade.
Doesn't look much different to what you'd see in the engine bay of a car from the 1970's made by the General but obviously with a whole lot more cylinders.
Geo metro 3 cylinder😂 I'll never forget that piece at the dealer😂. The laugh my family had at that toy we called it
I just sold my 1991 geo metro convert with the 1000cc 3 cylinder & special high mpg 5 spd transmission got 55-60 mpg @ 65 mph all day long, 75 mph top speed it gave me 5 trouble free years Only drawback was the 13" tires, very hard to find and a chinese Lo Wong Dong tire 13" tire was more expensive than a 15" michelen 70k radial.
The Citroën 2CV was a 2 cylinder as well and it was a legend
Always nice to see Lauren. We don't get to see her enough.
The car looks like something we would take to the Jersey Pines and wreck. That thing is almost as good as a 3 cylinder Suzuki.
The frame looks like something you would make shelving out of.
18:50 DID YOU SEE THAT (?) CRAWLING UNDER THE CAR JUST BEFORE YOU PUT YOUR HAND UP THERE?
This is actually a good car when you consider the design was to build down to a price. It's not the car you tow boats with, go on long drives, or even enjoy driving but it's affordable to people on extremely limited incomes.
(Had to do the hot take because everyone else is going to post (correct)reasons why this is a bad car but not why it's made this way.)
Kind of looks like just a large Kei car. Honestly, this is a very practical car. It's the bare essentials, without all the electronic gizmos to break or monthly subscriptions for heated seats. I personally wouldn't drive it, but I can see how appealing this would be in overseas markets as a low cost method of transportation.
Also I ldefintiely wish I also had my Micro Machine collection I had as a kid, those things were awesome! :)
Also nice choice in music! 24:30 Tom MacDonald & Adam Calhoun "American Flags"
It's not even like an "armored golf cart". It's more of a "golf cart plus".
A golf cart with the right gearing can BEAT THIS JUNK STOCK.😂😅
That's an insult to golf carts.
I mean the a/c and heat are the only plus.
Plus what? It's got nothing on a golf cart.
I think golf carts have better tires & brakes! 🤣
Thanks, Ray. It's good for the channel to do different things like this, adds some variety!
