  • The recent news that Jon Favreau is returning to direct a Mandalorian Star Wars movie was met with resounding indifference from most of us. In this clip, we outline why the project has little chance of success under the current regime at Lucasfilm.

It's a blatant reminder of one of the biggest mistakes they made in The Mandalorian: having Grogu go back to Mando rather than train with Luke Skywalker.

tbh, I would have been happy if they’d kept Luke and the SW main story out of it altogether. Just have Grogu remain along for the ride while Mando did bounty hunter stuff in the galaxy, and by the end of each season they’d tease us another crumb with the Grogu mystery… and simultaneously flesh out Mando’s history and backstory. Could have done a bunch of seasons and I would have been a happy camper… but no. They blew their load the moment the show started to gain momentum. Oh well…

The way I saw Mandalorian, it was like an Old West gunslinger type of show. AND THEN GROGU CAME BACK. 🤦 And there was a part in Season 3 when the pirates are in the city, and Mando starts doing his gunslinger stuff and I am like cool, back to what it should be. Then Lizzo and Jack Black, I was really done.

I used to work in the film industry and filmed next to to the studio stage for The Rise of Skywalker a few years back. Story was that production forced the extras to work hours on end without a break. It takes ages to take off the Stormtrooper suits, so requests to have a toilet break were ignored. One poor Stormtrooper couldn't hold it and went number 2 in his red suit. Costume department had to hose him and the suit down. Yeah I think that was a common opinion among people who were commenting on Cobra Kai when it started. It actually continued the stories of the original characters (in interesting/unexpected ways) while introducing new ones. It should be utterly basic stuff, but Disney Lucasfilm clearly did not want to honour or respect the existing (male) characters. It’s a shame Cobra Kai degenerated into basic teen melodrama, but it had a good start for a season or two.

It feels like Jon Favreau being announced as the director of the proposed Mandalorian movie was a bate-and-switch to get attention and controversy of the Rey movie and its director. Jon Favreau knows how Disney and Lucas Film is being run. When Favreau, a male, was working to restore Star Wars in the minds and hearts of fans, he was promptly overruled and everything he had in mind for the Mandalorian got destroyed. The result was a disappointing Mandalorian season three. Jon Favreau is a contracted free agent, and would most likely refuse any position at Lucas Film with Disney in the midst of complete and utter IP distruction for all their entertainment properties.

Or even Andor going to his adoptive mommy's funeral as the only proactive decision he made for himself in the entire season? He's a moron. It could have existed in any universe. It just wasn't comedically stupid, which I guess in this day and age is confused for good writing.

@@f1jones544 Terrible take, literally every action Andor took was proactive. He only cared about himself until the very end. It’s showing us how he becomes the man in rogue one who is willing to sacrifice everything for a cause he knows he won’t live to see the end of. And the lack of droids is no mistake, it’s meant to show how cocky and arrogant the empire is that they believe that fear alone is enough to stop any form of rebellion. Also if you think Andor is terribly written then what is something you consider well written?

      @f1jones544 Před 6 měsíci

@@jaxsonburch-eo1vz lol, And/or made zero "proactive" decisions until he decided to go to Mommy's funeral. I mean, literally, he didn't unless you also want to include opening the water taps. Until then he was along for the ride in his own show like every other recent SW protagonist. "Cocky" governments don't typically become empires that rule 90% of any known territory, so that copout of an excuse doesn't fly, nor does it jive with Palpatine's multidimensional chess that he played to assume his position in the first place. And/or's Empire is like "Hogan's Heroes," a feckless joke that occurs only in fiction. And yes, the fact we all know that And/or plank is going to die soon in a spinoff reduces the meaning of this show as a whole and renders it as just set piece that attempts to convey living conditions under the Empire, which really don't seem nearly as attrotious as they should. To that end, again, that prison... Immediately after the episode where it was introduced, the loyal SW fandom declared how "brutal" the Empire and its penal system were (replete with all you can eat food that tastes good, lmao. More "cockiness?" To what end?). I know from personal experience, though thankfully not as an inmate, that US prisons are infinitately more "brutal" than that place, never mind the brutality of less humane countries right here on Earth. Empires that dominate 90% of any given known territory aren't generally known for going light when it comes to penal institutions, no matter how incompetent or "cocky" they might be politically. In a world/galaxy where droids are as ubiquitous as TV monitors are in ours, you'd need to make a conscious decision to eliminate them for an easily telegraphed escape plan that surely one of the tens of thousands of inmates would have figured out long before this And/or schlub accidentally got randomly picked up - real criminals are pretty imaginative, but I'm SW this drifter's the only one who knows how electricity and plumbing work... The only reason you'd eliminate any secondary security system was if you were a lazy writer who wanted to quickly telegraph the only escape route from the minute we arrived (honestly, all someone else need to do is steal a pair of insulated boots off a guard and they couldn't even shoot you lmao). Bottom line, "brutal" but "cocky" prisons don't jive. Neither does the one guy (And/or) in the galaxy who seems to truly understand how evil and threatening the Empire is for some reason risking everything just to see his mommy's funeral. He couldn't even "sacrifice" that much, much less "everything." Going there was the last thing he'd do, but this And/or did. Lastly, we're talking about the "And/or"show here and I'm not in the habit of arguing with myself, but there have been plenty of prison/escape stories with great writing in the past: The Great Escape, Papillon, Cool Hand Luke (all Steve McQueen movies, coincidentally), Escape from Alcatraz, Shawshank Redemption, etc., etc. Star Wars EP 4 paid homage to many great cinematic influences and had its own spin to exceed them in many ways. And/or paid homage to those other prison movies (each told in the save or less time) by showing how to literally and figuratively water down even that tried and true formula. I could go on about undercover espionage war stories too, but you should get the drift by now; in general I've seen better writing in video games. Aside from all of those details, I'm still trying to figure out what And/or's story is even about in this series, other than it being more content filler about a dead man walking whose name no one remembered from said spinoff movie because surely he has a backstory too that we can make a meaningless prequel about, as is Disney's only MO. Again, it just serves as an underwhelming set piece for the Star Wars stories that actually mattered but which are now ignored.

They want a Disney product, and they don't want anyone really strong-minded trying to put their vision in over the conglomerate. I keep thinking of what they did to the new Percy Jackson, and how they changed all his characters into the classic race swapped Disney trio (a white, an Asian, and a smart black girl) into people unrecognizable from the book and he -Rick Riordan - insisted it was HIS idea. It's like every person who gets involved with Disney submits themselves to brainwashing for modern audiences - putting their babies on the butcher block and chopping them up for Disney consumption.

To be more specific, it happened on "Empire Strikes Back" and especially on "Return of the Jedi" with Lucas letting Kershner and Marquand shooting the principal Photography, while he was doing the VFX scenes and later forming the movie with his editors in post production and doing the pick ups+ADR.
It worked beautifully on "ESB" with Irvin Kershner - who brought his own flavour to it as well, while Richard Marquand was completely overwhelmed on "Jedi". Lucas had to go down there watching the shooting, with cast members Fisher and Hamill coming to him for instructions, because they didnt know what Marquand wanted from them in certain scenes.

Notice the placeholder title (yep, it IS a placeholder title. They don´t have the real title yet because they announced the movie to cover up the mess caused by the announcement of the Rey movie) is "The Mandalorian & Grogu", not "Din and Grogu".
Pissney tries to pretend they care about the fans and want to give them what they want, but it´s too late now. People care about Mando and Grogu, but they hate the evil Mary Sue Bo-Karen, which is the reason why the viewership of S3 was so low. Everything wrong with it is directly caused by that villain who keeps failing upwards being hammered into Mando´s rightful place like a square peg into a round hole.
There is no way forward from the mess Felony deliberately caused to the show. S3 has to be decanonized first and remade with Din as the new Mandalore and Bo-Karen as the villain she is, always was and always will be.

Respawn, so far, has been the only thing producing consistently good Star Wars right now.
But in the meantime, I have a bunch of great Star Wars from the old EU. I was playing Jedi Outcast yesterday and it’s still amazing.

Nothing says quarterly earnings report quite like sudden announcements of future, potentially positive projects. If the investors are so naive that they don't see through this, then anyone with even a single share should divest.

What makes a show great is writing, acting, music, cinematography, and themes. Just having popular characters or big action scenes doesn’t make a show good automatically. It has to prove its quality. I’m not saying Mando is bad, what I am saying is that it’s not great television and neither is anything else in the Mando verse. I understand why some people dislike Andor because of the lack of mysticism and heavy action but that’s because Andor is a different genre. Andor is a spy espionage while most of Star Wars has been action adventure, but that doesn’t make it any less Star Wars. One of the reasons we all like Star Wars is because of how large the galaxy is and how many species and planets there were. You have Jedi who are basically knights with magic, you have the empire and storm troopers who are basically nazis, the bounty hunters and gangsters like Boba Fett and Jabba the hutt. It’s all Star Wars. People spend so much time defending low quality Star Wars instead of appreciating when it’s great and why. Andor was great because it was written by someone who was inspired by many of the same things George Lucas was, and Dave Filoni. But the difference between Dave Filoni and Tony Gilroy who made Andor is that Gilroy is able to write deep characters and create tension in almost every scene. He uses foreshadowing perfectly and balances cgi and practical effects in a masterful way. I don’t get any of that with the Mando verse shows. I remember almost every scene of Andor. That is not the case for Kenobi, Mando, Ahsoka, or Boba because they didn’t make me care or feel on the same level. I urge you to go and watch Andor and pay attention to the details in the acting, the dialogue, and how characters develop. Do that and then watch Ahsoka. It’s not the same. I would love Ahsoka if it had the writing of Andor, but with Jedi and everything else. Thrawn especially, he needs to be well written. That’s the whole appeal of his character from the books. He’s not even the best villain in that show and that’s not a compliment to the other villains. Why people want those people to make a movie let alone a trilogy blows my mind. A well written Old Republic trilogy is what I want and it’s what fans have wanted for years.

I never liked Mando, the focus on cutesy Grogu annoyed me to be honest. With Mando never taking his helmet off (which just seemed ridiculous to me) the actor couldn't emote; it might as well be anyone, with a post voice over (might have been)...

They mentioned Beverly Hills Cop and a random, forgotten fact appeared in my mind, John Ashton, who played Taggart, was only 35 or around that age when the movie was made, boy, he looked like 15 years older than that there, so either props to the make up team or John Ashton had a most unfortunate case of old man face.

There was so much potential for creativity after the original trilogy and some at least near-classic novels came out afterwards but I think the thing came toppling down with the prequels. A lot of people think Episode I was the worst because that's where most people realized the dream was over but I really do think Episode II was the worst.

Eight or more years of entryism has left Disney packed with untalented, woke hacks, from top to bottom. It's basically a zombie. Even if you do get some talented person in a key spot who knows what the audience wants, they're gonna be swimming up stream and have their work sabotaged, from the first script to the final edit.
