Loved this Start to Finish video! I'm also a DIY Boomer with the same skill sets. Growing up and learning how to use all the various tools from my dad, then going on to high school back when woodshop, drafting, auto mechanics, home economics where available classes. Went on to working jobs that required those skills and benefited from on-the-job training over the years. I've done plenty of gut and remodel jobs such as displayed in this series and I'm always amazed when I hear neighbors, family members (i.e.younger folks) say "How did you learn to do all that? ...or..." I wish I had all those skills". My wife and I are both in our mid 70's and we're in the middle of a master bath remodel. We completely gutted the room down to the studs, rafters and joists. Sistered the floor joists to support the new soaker tub, moved both the shower and toilet to the other side of the room, installed all the necessary plumbing and drain lines (sweated copper) etc etc. Getting ready to tile but we're installing a heated floor system first. Like you, my wife is there every step of the way. It's a shame the newer generations don't have the same advantages, nor are many of them even interested in learning "how-to" from us old farts. We're a dying breed. Another question I hear... "Why don't you just hire someone to do the work?" My answer - I know, no matter the job, there's a 99% chance I can do it better or as good as any "professional" I might hire. Many of today's so-called craftsmen, contractors do a poor or halfass job etc. and fail to take pride in their work. Granted there are some extremely talented young people out their doing this kind of work as evident by other CZcams videos... but finding such talent a phone call away is not as easy as it used to be. Hats off to you sir... a great video series!
Thanks! Yeah, I figured as long as Iâm doing the work, I might as well record it, which is another interest of mine.
Canât agree more with everything you said! Like me, Iâm sure that youâve always had the interest in learning the skills that allow you to do what you can do today. And I get those same comments, especially âwhere did you learn to do thatâ.
Sounds like you have a much bigger project than ours. We kept everything in place with minor plumbing changes. We were fortunate that a downstairs wall runs directly underneath our tub location for support. We thought about doing a heated floor. I think my wife really wanted that, but sometimes I get a little bit lazy.
Same thing that we hear too, âwhy donât you just hire someone to do itâ. Well, several reasons for that. As you said, for one, I think that we can do it as good or better than a lot of contractors. Then thereâs the satisfaction and the cost savings. Youâre saving a ton with the scale of your job. Also, along the lines of the cost savings, I always like one of the direct aspects of that, which is getting to buy all the new tools!
Along with all the acquired skills, these days, just about anything more that you need to learn about can be found online. A big advantage that we didnât have years ago.
Thanks again and keep up the good work. It IS work, but Iâm sure you wouldnât have it any other way.
Beautiful job! That was a lot of work. Love the cabinet.
Thanks! Yeah, the cabinet added time to the remodel but we were very happy with the results. Probably saved almost $4,000 building the vanity that we saw online.
This series was so helpful! I had to laugh when I found your videos. I am planning to start a bathroom renovation this weekend and your bathroom (and related issues) are almost identical to my own. Thanks for putting this together!
Youâre welcome! Always glad to hear that the videos are helpful. Itâs a long process, but quite satisfying, not to mention the substantial money savings! Good luck with your project!
@@DIYBoomers Yep... the best price I was quoted to do the entire gut remodel I'm currently doing now was $58,000! My cost will be a fraction of that.
Absolutely! And good luck with your project too!
You both did a fantastic job!
Thank you!
Love itâŠâ€
Glad you liked it, thanks for watching.
