- Hello there Wrenching Mafia Gang ! Today we're going to dive into the world of auto maintenance, as we take on the task of changing oil in a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.
First things first, let's gather our materials. You'll need a set of wrenches, your fresh oil and filter, an oil disposal container, and some quality rags for any potential spills.
Start by raising the hood of your Chevy and locating the oil drain plug at the bottom of the engine. Be sure to place a pan underneath it to catch any spills. Loosen and remove the plug, allowing all that old oil to drain out. Once it's emptied, replace the plug and tighten it back up.
Now comes the fun part - filter removal! Unscrew it counter-clockwise, taking care not to damage the seal in the process. Gently pull it off and dispose of it safely.
With your new filter in hand, fill your funnel with fresh oil and insert it into your engine block. Securely tighten it in place using a wrench or socket wrench.
To finish off this easy oil change, filled engine to recommended manufacture specifications.
And there you have it! Your Chevy Silverado 1500 is now sporting fresh new oil, ready for many more miles of adventures down the road! When I change oil 🛢, I unscrew the drain plug & unscrew the old oil filter @ the same tim, making both units r completely drained @ the same time

Its says dexos gen 2 on the manual u used gen 3??
Hi Wrenching,
Very well explained🚙👍
Thanks WhipCityWrencher hope all is well brother
@@WrenchingMafia Yep, Thanks👍
I have a new 2024 Silverado with the 5.3 engine. It takes 8 quarts of 0W20 full synthetic Dexos oil. My dealer delivers 6 oil changes for me for free. I called them to get information on the oil they use. They said they only use GM approved oils, thus it appears the dealer will be changing my oil at 7500 mile intervals for the first 45000 miles. Nevertheless, this video suggests I could easily change the oil and of course then I would be certain of a job well done. So one question: what’s the purpose of prefilling the oil filter? I have never seen this recommended procedure.
I've never done it myself but apparently it makes it so the entire system is all ready full of oil and no part is "dry" so you won't have to worry about any part of the engine not having oil while it circulates through for the first start after the change. Hope I explained that ok.
@@jblaze725 I sort of get the idea of prefilling the oil filter but doesn’t that action take place when adding oil to the oil filling opening ?
I may be wrong but I think the oil doesn't enter the filter until the pump is running so it stays empty or mostly empty until then, hence why you fill it during the oil change. I'm no mechanic or even an avid tinkerer so don't quote me.
I would take advantage of the free oil changes BUT I wouldn't wait that Long go every 5k milles to keep it safe I heard they use the cheaper oil but at 5K any oil should be good hope that helps !
Nice truck. No punch to the oil filter?
