This is especially clear with Wendy with that shape shifting monster and in Mabel Land. It appeals to his love for Wendy, it gives him what he wants but he has the resolve to throw it in their face because he is honest. And knows Wendy wouldn’t do that despite how he wants her to.
"You're the worst" will always be one of my favorite moments. Not only was it a good subversion how that sort of scene usually goes, but it showed he was a man of his word.

Dipper is probably one of the first cartoon characters I related to. His determination to get shit done and be honest is some real shit. The arc of Him and Pacifica is cool too cause it humanizes that stereotypical "arrogant rich good looking prick" person and the truth behind rich kids, which is something I figured out being friends with rich kids irl. Dipper is the most realistic character of all the characters, and grounds this show in reality despite the mystical magic stuff.
Yeah, Dipper is just reletable... And that episode with Pacifica actually made me reconsider my hatred for rich people. And then I decided, nope, hating them was the right call, because man, the two rich kids I hung out with were pricks...
One of the things that made me love Dipper is his snarky and sardonic attitude, which perfectly complements Mabel's goofiness and optimistic outlook. Also, it's pretty much the norm for a lot of children's cartoons to have their kid protagonist have an upbeat and sunny personality, but what makes Dipper so fantastic is that pulls no punches when it comes to displaying his contempt for certain things or people or pointing out the improbability of something in a very matter-of-fact manner. He takes no bs and I love him for that.

1:55 "Do you think you could do this somewhere else? You're laughing at frequencies only dogs should hear." That's a good one. I'll have to use that later.
Dipper was one of the first characters I ever saw myself in. His skepticism, his honesty, his curiosity, and more have always reminded me of myself. In a way, I think Dipper wasn't just made representing Alex Hirsch, but the audience as well.
I'm... Pretty sure it's the other way around. Curious and determined people are drawn to stories with a curious and determined main character. Dipper wasn't made to fit the audience, the audience changed to fit him
I think he was not that cynical, he was never "life doesn't matter" more just "why are you like this". He was somewhat like krierkergard than like Nitzche. Dipper would get this reference. I do find his brutal honesty very appealing and wish other characters were like him, not to hopeless but just enough to realize it's fun when you aren't getting bullied and have someone beside you.
I can also relate to Dipper as an asexual cuz even though I know Dipper is probably straight he just gives off a lot of those vibes when he sees other couples in public or when judging Mabel for her crushes
1:16 I love this moment because he’s doing exactly what he said he would just before. You’d expect him to back out but no, Dipper Pines is a man of his word
Pacify northwest is the worst and I’d say that to her face [two second later] Pacifica knocks at door and says I need your help Your the worst (DOOR SLAM)
This is one of the reasons why Dipper is my favorite Gravity Falls character. He always speaks his mind and he’s never ashamed of it. His dry sense of humor and snarky attitude is one of the things that makes him interesting.
Dipper was always my favorite character just from how he took no shit. Sure, he was self conscious, anxious, and wanted to fit in. But when it mattered, he stood his ground. He was willing to tell it to you straight exactly what he thought of you, and even if it was hurtful, it was probably true. He was one of the most cynical cartoon protagonists, which is an amazing contrast from how most cartoon protagonists are. Most are simply happy, naive, and then when you get farther into the series, they show their secret sad side for one episode and then it's never spoken about again. Dipper was relatable though, he may have not been the cheerful, happy protagonist, but he genuinely was funny with all of his sarcastic comments! He is determined, gets to the roots of the problem, and tries his best in pretty much every situation. And he was flawed. He wasn't perfect, which cartoons admittedly get better about making imperfect characters throughout the series, but Dipper is a perfect example. While he likes to think things through, come at a problem from multiple different angles, he sometimes goes for the easiest solution without thinking of the consequences. He doesn't think twice about cheating to beat Robbie, and instead immediately uses the opportunity granted to him to defeat Robbie. He was willing to make a deal with a dream demon, something he knew almost nothing about except that it was extremely powerful and very likely dangerous, just to get into a computer. He has his flaws, but he overcomes them, makes the situation better in the end. And he sacrifices so much, especially for his sister. He had the opportunity to learn from one of the greatest minds of all time, someone he looked up to, and yet he turned it down because Mabel didn't want to be alone. I love Dipper's character so much :)
Well, Robbie was twice his size, yet half as mature and intelligent. And Mabel kept blowing him off, and going back on her word. So, he wasn’t really left with much choice.
I’m late but there’s that one scene in Despicable Me 2 where Gru sprays a girl with water and says ‘Oh I’m sorry I didn’t see you there’ *sprays her again* ‘Or there’. And that’s Dipper as a teenager through adulthood in my mind.
I like that Dipper’s honesty extends to himself as well as those around him. It keeps him from just seeming like an unlikable know it all and more like an actually intelligent kid who can’t keep his mouth shut.
(My personal headcannon) When Dipper responds to Bill saying "Admit it, you missed me" with "Hardly!", I think it's because he knows Bill is evil, but is still fascinated by him
If Bill was real and he appeared in my house one day, I would ask him "How TF do you work?? Why do you wear a bowtie if you ain't got a proper neck? Is there a shape sorting toy where you fit in your dimension?"
This is just my opinion, but I think that, while superficially Dipper is like Ford and Mabel is like Stan, there’s a level where it’s the other way around. Ford and Mabel are both kind of the “golden child”, Ford because of his brains and Mabel because of her ability to bond with people. They are also both quite trusting, with a tendency to see the best in people, but can also be a little selfish. Dipper and Stan, on the other hand, see themselves (rightly or wrongly) as the less favoured sibling. They are both a bit more grounded and realistic, but also more cynical, and lack the self-worth and self-confidence of their siblings.
@@samueldixon9028 yeah, dipper and Stan perpetually see themselves as the “outsiders” the ones who can’t do anything right or put their people in danger. It’s really interesting to see how much more you can find in the characters as you age

4:08 I wish the part with Dipper asking “Why the does the Sun has Sunglasses?!” was on this video because it’s actually a really good honest question that for me when I was first watching made me realize it’s a hilarious thing lots of brands do! 🤣
Astronomically speaking, there are suns much bigger than ours and burn 100x as bright. But questions, unless phrased in that certain tone, isn’t being honest or lying.
@@Spoonicks Ya 😆 I just thought it was a funny scene, especially because the Sun in our solar system doesn’t have eyes and or have sunglasses big enough to fit all around it plus if there’s suns brighter it would most likely not come in contact with the sun in this solar system!

Neverest” Huey looks a at brochure with a similar Sun to where that statement is implied but yes now I’m wondering if this was a coincidence or not! 😲
Man I love this show. It really portrays the children well. Even one who considered himself more “mature” is prone to being tactless, judgmental, and at times outright mean. But that doesn’t mean he’s a total bully, nor does it make him any more of a fool than the average 12-year-old. Because kids can be smarter than we give them credit for, and more compassionate than we expect, and just because they don’t have a lot of stuff figured out yet doesn’t mean they aren’t fully fledged people worthy of respect. The two seasons this show aired for literally were when I was 12-13, the same transition to teenagedom the characters went through. And this show helped me so much in terms of figuring out what “growing up” actually meant when I was already considered “mature for my age.”
My only qualm with this comment is you saying it aired from when you were 12 to 13. It aired over a span of 4 years, so it should've been 12 to 16 for you.
0:39 I love how you counted the presenter as Dipper being brutally honest, since it's just thoughts projected through a fictional character in the mind of a fictional character in a fictional story
What we love about each Gravity Falls character: Mabel: her cute, quirky personality; Wendy: her laid-back, big sister-ish demeanor; Stan: his quirky, wisecracking, caring personality; Soos: his friendly, funny, "big buddy" personality; Bill: his absolute, total insanity; Ford: his laid-back, "big mentor" personality; Dipper: his clever, not-giving-up, resourceful, caring demeanor... but most of all, his "not gonna sugarcoat it", snarky, brutally honest attitude and razor-sharp tongue. It's just marvelous.

This is especially clear with Wendy with that shape shifting monster and in Mabel Land. It appeals to his love for Wendy, it gives him what he wants but he has the resolve to throw it in their face because he is honest. And knows Wendy wouldn’t do that despite how he wants her to.
@@cidercake4373 That's actually a really good point. I didn't think of how his honesty might've had something to do with that.
"You're the worst" will always be one of my favorite moments. Not only was it a good subversion how that sort of scene usually goes, but it showed he was a man of his word.
It's the kind of blatant honesty I strive for every day. Not necessarily ill will, but very forward

its a reverb effect but you put the sfx of the clip + some empty space into another clip which you extend far enough for the reverb to take place.

@@samueldixon9028 They're basically the foils to one another.
