Scar is such a perfect Disney villain. He knew that Simba would never kill him despite what he had done, and yet rather than show any signs of weakness by doing as Simba said and "run away and never return" he decided he would much rather die.
Yet ultimately it wasn't even Simba who killed him. It was Scar's own actions that set forth a domino effect that led to his own demise....truly the cherry on top
He didn't decide to die. He thought he could win against Simba. He didn't count on the hyenas turning on him.
@@UnfazedPhoenix that's what i'm saying, if he hadn't tried throwing the hyenas under the bus for giving him the plan to kill Mufasa in the first place, they wouldn't have turned on him, he could've gotten a 2nd chance given he survived the fall from pride rock

Jeremy Irons's voice is sooo chilling and satisfying. I always liked Scar's character. Such an Icon.
TBF, Scar had a point in killing off Mufasa. Though he was a strong ruler, he showed his weakness in that moment with the stampede; he saved his son but relied on Scar, someone he had always looked down on, to try and save him. After mistreating and threatening him (for who knows how many years), he completely expected him to save him (because as a King he's just assuming he has total devotion of all those under him). He never thought to reconcile or find common ground with Scar up to this point, he just treated things as "I'm first born, im king, you fall in line". The stampede was the catalyst, but his narrow, short-sighted interpretation of what it meant to be king is what got him killed. He was strong, but prideful and rigid in his interpretation.
Scar was the gifted sibling blinded by resentment for his older brother and trapped in a hierarchy where he could never realistically move up in the world: his potential festered and rotted until eventually deceit and ruin were all he could hope to aspire to (it was what he'd grown accustomed to but it was also antithesis to his brother's rule, so symbolically this _was_ better to him).
Basically, Scar just took out the faltering old blood of tradition. His and Mufasa's feud had likely been going on since childhood - One was promised the world and treated like a prospective king while the other was treated as an afterthought and a shadow. One was doted on for being a good hunter, strong, fast while the other was told "that's nice, Scar" whenever he successfully talked his way out of a situation, or found a means to sway his enemies to his side, or stalked his prey for days on end then struck without ever being seen. One was a shining paragon of their rigid, outdated system and the other spent his whole life fighting it knowing it was all in vain.
Then Scar knew what he had to do if he ever wanted things to be different.
That being said, Scar's reign was just as corrupt as Mufasa's: he was sick of mind and weak of character. He didn't know how to lead and sustain, only achieve and take indefinitely - Killing Mufasa solved the rigid tradition problem, killing Scar solved the unfit leader problem, and in the end you get Simba who is a world king. He's seen the world, grown up outside the rigid system, and brings his experience to the table upon return; he even offers mercy at one point but is rejected, so there's respect for life and familial ties even in light of one's past actions.
Tl;dr: Scar had a point and inadvertantly brought about a stronger system than what was currently observed.
TbfI see all of Mufasa’s shortcomings and am team Scar all the way. When it comes to interpreting these two specifically as brothers.
It’s clear to see Scar is absolutely uncommunicative and impossible to have a conversation with let alone patch shit up. He’s too far gone, his sarcasm is his filter and it’s too strong. Now,
Despite all those shortcomings, Mufasa has always allowed Scar to stay in the tribe, be helpful to no one, leech pride’s sustenance, to the point of pulling zebra legs out the kitchen for the hoodlems.
Mufasa asked Scar why didn’t he go to the Simbas confirmation, is because he was invited. Despite Scar’s intolerable scheming sarcasm and uselessness, Mufasas let him stay cos a brothers love, is a brothers love.
Then admits he has neither loyalty, respect, nor love for his big bro or his neph in his snarky response.
End of the day, Mufasa just had a kid, has a bludger for a lil bro that he can’t even have a real convo with, knows deep down is dangerous jealous and all the things in between. And he just had a son. Fkn oath ur gonna start getting aggressive.
Mufasa let Scar stay willingly with scales completely tilted toward his own determinant doing so cos mans is busy on the patrol because he know his lil bro can’t leave, or conquer an kingdom for his own. Scar stuck himself under his big bro’s wing doing fuck all and
jealous out of his mind instead of either simply try chasing his own destiny or even easier, accepting what is and how good he’s big bro takes care of him despite the impossible rehabilitation.
The bros both knew each other very well.
I love Scar cos he is a villain to perfection. I love Mufasa cos he is a sentinel to the very end

Got to respect just how well Scar's plan worked, if it weren't for his terrible people skills he could’ve avoided death entirely.
Unless Simba was also slightly sociopathic and sadistic but was just much better at hiding ut
as much as i love Scar, there's no denying that he turned out to be a tyrant incapable of running an efficient kingdom in the end. his plan was a failure because his rule killed the land and descended the people into famine, which is totally unacceptable considering how intelligent he was. that's the real tragedy, if you ask me.
@@flannelpillowcase6475 Very true! If I recall correctly Scar actively chose to brace the drought instead of migrating elsewhere like the other herds had, out of sheer stubbornness and unwillingness to abandon the place he killed to obtain. Scar might've been very intelligent, but when it came down to it he was unable to reason or adapt and stuck solely to his own self-preserving principles, ultimately only interested in having authority over everybody and the ability to command them like he did the hyenas with little regard for anybody's wellbeing but his own.

Two things to note about Scar as Disney’s best villain:
1. He wold be so dangerous as a human in the modern world; with the lengths he’s willing to go to and his manipulative lies.
2. He colors of “Be Prepared” symbolize Scar attributes: green shows his lies, yellow shows his jealousy, and red at the end shows how vicious he is.

You described a modern woman...oops... I mean
@@patricew.4010 there was no need for that. And its also not true.
Another thing that makes Scar interesting is how he is a dark mirror of Simba:
-Both are rebellious lion princes who have a very immature vision of being king, thinking that kingship meant doing whatever you wanted with no regard for the consequences (one has to see their songs "Be Prepared" and "I just can't wait to be King"). Both aren't above bullying (with Zazu being the main target) and after Mufasa's death both give themselves to a carefree life (either with Simba in the jungle or Scar running away from his responsibilities) and have sidekicks in the form of outcasts obsessed with food.
-Simba eventually learns that being king comes with responsibilities and treats Pumba and Timon with respect (earning their loyalty), Scar embraces the kingship for the perks to its fullest extent and treats the Hyena Clan with disdain (leading to his death after he attempted to betray them to save his skin).
Let us not forget that he was technically the best Disney villian when it came to being an actual villian bc when ruling the Pride lands, HE KEPT THAT SH*T UP FOR YEARS before Simba came and beat him up. And technically the only reason Simba did come back was because Nala his gf(and half sister based on how lions work) yelled at him
His job as king was terrible in reality, it is a miracle that he lasted this long, his usurpation of the throne cursed the lands and caused a drought, his violation of the circle of life by letting hyenas enter the Pride Lands and overhunt destroyed the ecosystem even more, and he would have forced everyone, lions and hyenas, to stay and die with him at Pride Rock when the herds emigrated before accepting that he had screwed up.
You know, for a scene about scar setting simba up to die by hienas, their dinamic when simba was a baby boy talking to his grumpy and sassy uncle was quite entertaining
Dude tell me about it! The banter is top notch. It kinda makes me want to see a non-evil version of Scar where he gets to be the weird sassy uncle for the whole movie.

It is, but it's also heartbreaking. If Scar hadn't have been so obsessed with overthrowing his brother then he could have loved his little nephew and watched him grow up. Instead he cared more about his own ambitions and tried to have practically his whole family killed and the pridelands destroyed.

It's a fact at this point you cannot hate Disney villains. Except for Hans of course. Scar is the top 5
Hate Hans. Moreso because of how his was written than his character tho. Now watch as I hijack this random CZcams comment to soapbox this thing. (Terribly sorry SansThe Infinite, but I gotta know if it isn’t just me)
IMO Hans was poorly written as a villain, so I was more upset he was *suddenly* a bad guy instead of showing real signs of it at the beginning. I don’t mean the super finite details that everyone who may think he’s a good villain will pick out and dramaticize and say that there were signs all along. If you watch a movie and feel the shock from a betrayal the first time and understand that it was hinted from the start, and then find little details later, great! If you have to watch the movie and look for the details the next time around to see the foreshadowing, it wasn’t enough.
Was his betrayal a shock? Absolutely, because I was confused as to where it came from instead of ‘I should have known.’ Because he didn’t even act like a villain, even a bad guy pretending to be a good guy would have steady-paced signs to discreetly plant suspicion, or at least seemingly innocent actions would slot in at the reveal, and while it was revealed that he was trying to take over, none of his actions were much more than what the other potential villains, the soldiers and knights, would have done. But Hans just turned bad instead! He had reason to hide it, but then only showed his bad side while he hunted Elsa, and even then he would still be able to fit into the niche of the guy who’s trying his best but causes conflict with what the main characters want. He even had a better romantic dynamic in the beginning than the one reindeer dude who’s name I didn’t even bother to remember.
I just don’t get the seemingly overwhelming majority of folks who believe Hans was a believable and interesting villain when really his character arc just seemed confused.
EDIT: I’m not alone thank goodness 😭
I KNOW RIGHT the only reason I can hate Hans for cause of how poorly he was written he saved Elsa for no reason didn't miss Anna for no reason his plan changed in EVERY FUCCKING FRAME

Not really... the only villain that truly got away completely was the Coachman from Pinocchio. Scar got caught at the end and died the worse death of all slowly eaten alive.
@@LadyCoyKoi >slowly eaten

Yes I was just sauing I didn't like the live action cause they cut alot of his scenes amd songs
the be prepared song was very disapointing in the live action, oh wait, there was no be prepared song in the live action
Not to mention since he looks so realistic that it completely removes the ability to squash and stretch his facial proportions to convey his sinister nature. Thus, he ends up looking like just an ordinary lion with brown fur and a slight scar that isn't intimidating at all.

@@Kittymom1310it's a chant not a song in the live action, supposed to be more menacing, to get across how evil scar is and his intentions

Mufasa and Scars voice is like deep and smooth istg 😂❤
Agreed
Scar is the most sassiest character in the movie 😂
I think part of what makes him so lastingly evil as a Disney villain goes is not only that he actually SUCCEEDED, which so few of them do, but that he deeply betrayed a trust in doing so. Simba's childhood scenes with him show that he trusted Scar completely, and that his betrayal kind of fucked him up. That line of at the kind of says a lot, "Why should I believe you? Everything you ever told me was a lie."
Well said. Unlike so many villains, Scar actually succeeds in his evil plan - and we see him stand by his misdeeds regardless of the cost. There is no regret, no remorse - only a snake trying to bend every situation to meet his nefarious goals.

Just realized that the only time Mufasa called him "brother" with a soft tone was when he asked him to save his life.. before that it was Scar who kept addressing him as "big brother" even if it was sarcastic, but Mufasa was only interacting with him as a king and reminding him that Simba is his future one.. Scar was ignored, humiliated, and isolated in this oh-so-fair kingdom.. his line during the song "to be respected and seen for the wonder I am" just shows how broken he was..

Scar probably got eaten up by his jealousy of Mufasa's role as the king and his weaker condition that he descended into depression and deviousness. Which lead to these events.

@@emmalooman Agreed

encanto was p good
Agreed 100%. The sad thing is though is that with companies being so money hungry nowadays is that handron animation takes more time and usually gets less watches while 3D animation takes less time and makes them a lot of money, so basically quantity (of cash) over quality here, so I don't think Disney will be bringing hand-drawn animation back anytime soon :( but everyday more and more studios are doing that sort of hand drawn mixed with 3D style like the bad guys or spider-verse, so at least we might be getting closer to hand-drawn animation

I find it interesting that scar is like a leader to the hyenas because lions and hyenas are basically enemies but scar was such an outcast that he got close to enemy and become the "alpha" to them. I'm sure scar stayed with them because he felt more powerful with them then with his own pride
There is a phrase from Robert green in his books where he say to reduce your envy sometimes associate with the less ones
Yea honestly scar is kinda pitiful in a way, if you think about it he was the oldest so he was suppose to be leader, but since his brother was stronger he was deemed the next leader and not scar. And depending on his and his brother age gap it’s even possible he was told he’d be the next king for years until his younger brother came along, from scar song (be prepared) he even said he’d get back for years of denial which means he was most likely always in his brother shadow and denied the appreciation of the pride that he was suppose to lead- he got the short end of the stick really-
Which is strange because hyenas are ruled by an alpha female o.o
