- In May 1999, the day of the accident couldn’t have been more normal. Anna Bågenholm was an adventurous young physician who thrived in the snowy landscapes of Norway. Her favorite place to ski was outside Narvik, Norway, and was eager to spend the day doing what she loves. But a few runs into their trip, Bågenholm caught some snow the wrong way and tripped, losing her skis. She tumbling downhill, at the mercy of gravity as she has no way of stopping her impending doom. She cracked through the frozen stream. The shock of the freezing water enveloped Anna, stealing her breath and numbing her senses. She went head-first through the ice. She was trapped beneath the thick layer, unable to escape.

When I think of real-life superheroes, I think of Dr. Mads Gilbert. This guy's ability to save Anna's life who was basically dead is the stuff of legend. Anna's ability to stay calm in a nightmare scenario likely saved her life and gave Dr. Gilbert and the team at the hospital enough wiggle room to save her life. My jaw hit the floor when researching this story. I couldn't believe this was possible, and I hadn't heard of this story before a few weeks ago. Anna is the ultimate survivor.
What's your take on this miraculous story?
This channel is growing and it's all because of your all. Thank you so much! So grateful for your support.
Seriously? Your channel was one of my quickest subscriptions. I was less than 120 seconds into my first of your videos before I subscribed. I love your content, my friend!

Thanks to the doctors who never gave up to save Anna. Brautiful story of survival.
Heroes in every sense of the word.
This is the stuff that nightmares are made of.
For sure
... nightmares and miracles!!! Terrifying to even imagine, though!!! 😬😬😬

Agree 💯👍 Riggghhht
It baffles me how ones tragedy can be anothers moment of clarity! Watching these stories, this one and Harrison Okene's story has brought to me a new outlook on happenings in my own life. Honestly, now...when things seem bleek or out of reach for me, I think about Okene and many others on this channel and some how things just don't seem so bad. It's amazing how connected humanity truly is! Life is so much deeper and connected than we even realize. It's a feeling of empathy and gratuity at the same time. Thank you for all your work making these videos! The effort you put in shines through every single video you do! 😉😁💖💎
I couldn't have said it better. You rock ItalianAngel!
@@outdoordisasters 🤗😃😘💖💖💖🌹Thank You!!!
9 hours of resuscitation... thats one thing someone not a doctor will never get.
I love the little preamble you give just before you introduce your moniker and then move into the story. Its all very well written! And the stories are so amazing. Thank you.
"Wilderness can be a cruel mistress".
So true.
Wow...something wanted Bogenholm to contribute to science in a different way. She was the specimen that day, respectfully speaking. I love her courage to sustain her own life under critical circumstances. P.S. Thank you for the uplifting story to be continued.
Well, Outdoor Disasters CZcamss best has hit the mark again with another gripping story of survival! Keep up the good work Outdoor Disasters!
Thank you Daniel!
What a Miraculous story of Survival! It would be scary to be trapped under ice. I'm glad she survived her ordeal and that her training as a doctor helped her to do so. I visited Norway many years ago and it is indeed breathtaking and beautiful!
After doing this story, I really want to go to Norway. That part of the world looks amazing. The only way she was able to survive was she didn't panic and knew what to do to keep her core as warm as possible. Being conscious for 40 mins in icy water is unbelievable. But she did and bought herself enough time. Thanks for watching my friend!
If you ever get the opportunity to visit Norway I highly recommend it, you'll love it there! That was unbelievable she was conscious for that long, I can't even imagine how frigidly cold that must've been for her. You're welcome! Love the videos and tips for survival afterwards. How did you come up with the idea to do these videos?
How did her training help her? In what way? Lots of people figure out to stay calm, you don't need an MD to do that. What's with the worship of the deputized and white coated on this channel? Real weird.
Wow... absolutely incredible! And I love how you always give relevant survival advice at the end of each video.
Thank you very much!
If anyone wants to know what a miracle is then this is the woman is prove they exist 👍👍
Tell me about it!
They're probably be a lot more miracles if a team of 100 physicians worked on everyone who was frozen the way she was for as long as they did with all the equipment they used.
She's a fighter! Good for Anna!
I knew à hypothermic patient isn’t classed as dead until they are warm and dead but I didn’t know that it was because of this lady and her doctors.
A valuable contribution. Thank you from Oslo.
I really enjoy the narration style and sound. It sounds like he records it first on a cassette 😊
Definitely going for the retro style. Thank you!
Great story of survival.. Very well narrated.. GRJ !!
🙏
Wow that's crazy. Brought back from the dead. Insane.
I didn't even know this could be done. Goes to show that each of us has to go out and learn things on our own and not rely on popular media to inform us. This story should've made headlines worldwide. This is one of the more insane stories you'll ever here.
Absolutely incredible
This is exactly where the phrase not dead until warm and dead is so true! These sotires are fascinating and miraculous 😊
Damn…..unbelievable. God was with this lady when she crashed through the ice. Unbelievable.
I have to tell you… You QUICKLY became a favorite, must see every video, content creator! The way you research your topics, deliver the narrative, put together the visuals and show the passion in your craft. It’s amazing and very appreciated! I’ve spent my entire life outdoors. Involved with scouts and other outdoor and adventure groups, all the way through my Navy career and into present day, where I work with mountain search and rescue. You show an absolute appreciation and respect for the outdoors and anytime you cover a topic with unfavorable outcomes or tragedy, you do so in a reverent and respectful manner.
That being said… I have now watched all of your videos. Some more than once. Gonna need some more!! 🏔️😎👊🏻
Thank you so much. I definitely have a passion for the outdoors and telling these stories. My favorite type of media to watch is documentaries or docu-dramas of people in these types of situations. One of my favorite shows of all time is I Shouldn't Be Alive. And before I started this channel, definitely consumed many YT videos of similar content. So I definitely had an idea what I wanted to do when producing this videos, and I just hoped my passion for this type of content is reflected in producing this content. Appreciate your kind words, and happy to have you along!
@@outdoordisasters - Your passion is ABSOLUTELY evident in your work. It’s one of the things I love about your videos. It’s palpable!
My fav also. It's all around high quality and useful content in many ways. Thanks for sharing 🙏🏾
Love this channel. All the stories are interesting.
Glad you like them!
I remember being taught in my emt class years ago, your not dead unless your warm and dead.
Anyone else catch themselves with this background music in their heads? After watching several of these videos, it’s one of my night time random thoughts preventing me from falling asleep 😂

Mind Blown.
Love this channel as much as Scary Bear Attacks 😎
Great channel. Thank you!
I have a medical condition that causes hypothermia. I have to take some pretty elaborate steps to avoid it. On my in case of emergency card it does say "I'm not dead until I'm warm and dead." Pretty surreal
What a true miracle, God blessed her
👍👍❤️
the only way to really stay safe is to just stay in your room all the time and never leave but eventually the smell will become overwhelming.
Always get a good laugh from you Michael lol
🤣 Not so much…you must not have read of those parents who let their daughter (Lacey) die slowly, her body actually fusing to their sofa. It was found that Lacey had ingested sofa material and feces. The flooring around the sofa actually buckled due to urine & feces. The seasoned coroner even had to exit the home to vomit.
She died that day, but God decided to spare her life and work a miracle in her body. May she live for the glory of God.
She was in an NDE. I hope she’s brave enough to share her NDE & OBE experience with out fear of judgement.
I was thinking that too! Many, many years ago I had a near death experience. It was so wonderful that I was actually very depressed when I was back in my body. Eventually I realized it was very comforting knowing we do indeed continue on in heaven.
@@debbieellett9093 you are right, I did too. It takes a good length of time to process such a pivotal life changing experience like that & find acceptance in being present and committed to continue living after it. Have you discovered your gifts? We all have a much more defined and clearer ability after an NDE. Using them is key to unlocking your soul’s purpose.
Might have to learn Wim Hof breathing method to survive this
It's a little concerning that one hospital gets so much opportunity to develop their expertise in hypothermic cardiac arrest. I'm very glad for their success, but I'm going to stay a bit closer to the equator.
The phrase we use in emergency medicine for hypothermia is, "You're not dead until you're warm and dead."
You ain’t dead until you are warm and dead as they say
56° degree core body temperature.
Amazing.
Well , she had a GUARDIAN ANGEL.......
Her motto must be "over my warm, dead body!" (Too soon?)
I had my own brush with death and came out with some brain damage....first thing I thought of: "Oh no! Her brain will be destroyed!" Glad to hear the science behind her victory.

I wonder if she had a near death experience like some people do when they see things?
9:18 “ warm and dead?
i dont understand how she can fall in, but can't be pulled back out. also, the clips hint that she was pulled along under the ice by the current, which does not appear to be the case. kinda confused here.
1st you have imagine that her fall in the stream was forced by gravity which built up with speed before entry.
2nd As she fell in, "what's in motion stays in motion." Her body continued to travel under the water.
3rd heavy water logged clothing ski-boots and skies tangled her. Apparently, the "stream" was not deep enough for her to pull her legs down and under her. No room to stand. Remember her two friends tried to pull her out pulling her feet. Her feet are what her friend had seen sticking out of the water. The rest of the ice must have been frozen and covered the length of her body, which must have been twisted. It took a pointed shovel, third attempt, and serious force to break the ice, after 80 or 40 mins.? Hope that helps.

@@lamh5265 hmmm maybe the clothes swelling with moisture helps to explain it
Warm & dead. Not cold & dead.
In this Situation one does Not survive very long........
Do you carry a bug out bag? What do you consider essential vs optional? I want a really useful BOB but there are so many options.
go away bot
@@majermike oh..uhh ok. Were you speaking to me? This is cool. I have never been called a bot before but I probably have been told to go away. Why would a bot need a bug out bag?
Oh I think I just caught on. Did a bot reply to my question?
l think this should be done for everyone! JESUS is KING!
Amen!!
Good thing the Ice Sharks didn't get her!
Naww, she received special treatment.
Head off the Trail ??? Bad very very bad........
Need a better narrator! This guy sounds like he turns his head from leftt to right while reading in a monotone. Love how "story tellers" presume what the deceased last thoughts and actions were. Pure speculation regarding a very unfortunate circumstance
First 💯
You go, Matt!
Why does the narrator sound like Morgan freeman?
Yes he does, I was thinking that too! I like Morgan Freeman so to me it’s not a bad thing.
The stress of medical school. Poor babies. Maybe don't go quarter mil in debt to become a white-coated drug dealer. LOL. And she was a resident, so no longer in medical school. Just a point of information.
My ex-wife is very 🥶 cold🧊 has been for years
Haha you had an ice queen too?
