I kinda hope at some point they go back to these tracks and put in enough effort to even match base 8. It’s unrealistic since that’s not what would make money but I can hope
Played a lot of Super Circuit, the dock used to be all above water but broken-looking. Having part of it fallen into the lake is dope as hell. As if the dock has broken since last played.
I feel the exact opposite about the rainbow road remake. I think the road here looks maybe the best of any rainbow road. It only looks blue from afar, up close you can see the colors in full effect and it's defnitely still a rainbow road. Not as saturated as others, but that's because it's semi transparent, which is fine to dislike. It's fine to not like it but they definitely didn't "miss the point." And to me it looks the best out of any rainbow road not only in this game, but in the series. It looks like you're driving across rainbow colored stardust or comets or something, it fits perfectly with both the spacey feeling, looks great, and also makes you feel like you're going even faster than you are since it travels in the opposite direction. And I love how dark the moon is. It isn't realistic at all, but it makes that lens flare really stand out and give the whole thing a more "space-y" feel because space is known for being dark. I think the 3DS coloration looks kind of ugly to be honest, the moon isn't exactly known for being beautiful up close, it's just gray and rocky. Making it dark so the visual focus is on the stars and sun with higher contrast was a great visual move IMO. Another great thing they changed is the planets you drive around in segment 1. Before they weren't even planets, just generic looking moons or asteroids. Now they are specific planets (Neptune or maybe Uranus, not sure which, and Jupiter). It ties the theming together much better and adds more visual variety. The only part about this section I don't like visually is the weird rotating tunnel, but I didn't like that part on the 3DS either and don't think it really works conceptually anyways. Doesn't really fit with the rest of the track. I get why you don't like it but I not only think it looks as good as base game 8, but is up there with some of the most visually great tracks from base 8 like wild woods or dragon driftway.
About the planets on this version, there is: First is Neptune, going to Jupiter we can see Earth in the distance, so we get to Saturn rings. Just a lil observation, in 3ds we don't even have Saturn, the planet there only have "rings like" Saturn, like a lot of plantes in our universe, but planet itself don't even remember our Saturn at all. I loved this version, but i'm kinda curious to see how it seems if the lights was put in the place they used to stay.
Yeah i actually love the blueish hue the whole 3DS Rainbow road gives, because if anything, it isnt a rainbow road, you are more like going from planets to planets with an Rainbow bridge that connect everything, so making it a bit more blue really fits the whole aesthetics of the course! I would say they could bring more colour back at the last lap though, cause thats the oke section where the rainbow road itself is the track itself
That would have required effort, though. Besides, we're getting Mario Kart 9 soon, regardless of what people say or think, so I think they'll probably go all-out with adding characters to that game. It's a lot easier to add characters to Mario Kart than Smash, so it's more than feasible for them to have every character in Mario Kart history (including Tour) and add more for the next game.
It kinda sucks because I'm honestly having so much fun getting back into Mario Kart 8, but I just wish the effort that went into the base game's tracks was in this DLC. Glad we've been seeing some improvements with each wave, but there's still a pretty big difference for me in most tracks. At the end of the day, not at all a deal-breaker for me, and I'm having a ton of fun, it's just kinda disappointing.
The reason why the Moon section is dark in 3DS Rainbow Road is the lighting position. The original version had its sun positioned where you can see the lens flare at the steep curve near the end, which makes the moon there well lit and the boost pads section of Saturn's ring under the planet's shadow. This one is positioned where the lens flare is seen when you land on the moon, in which the reverse happens, the further back of the moon is dark, and the same section on Saturn's ring is well lit.
5:20 Also compare that little subway bit to Super Bell Subway, where every sign, poster and map has cool easter eggs to other tracks, really tying the game together in a way not seen since Double dash. Here it's flat textures and a bunch of rectangles for the signs.
@@doomse150 I get what you're trying to say, and ofc there's a difference. It would've been nice to at the very least have some real text on the signs above you. Maybe they could've had the names of some cool landmarks the country has 🤷♀
@@mikayel6175 That's my point lol, i feel like they could've done more with that area, even if it's small. Its just so oversimplified compared to the main game, and super bell subway was the closest comparison i could think of
@@enderallygolem well, my problem is that the course is dark, it shouldn't be, no rainbow road at this point has been this dark simply because all roads in base 8 have an emission so the only dark part is the background, everything else is clearer, like the space station in MK8 RR
With how the visuals have been improving each wave, it feels like the Booster Course Pass is being used to train new staff for another project (I.E. Mariokart 9),
@@mikayel6175 it's MK7.5, not MK9 Sorta like what Ratchet and & Clank did with Quest for Booty, it is main series, but not at all a major entry. So it doesn't get the number.
@Alex McCulloch MKT is Mario Kart 9, it is a mainline, it's track are being included in other mainline games, it was even confirmed by Nintendo. This is a fact,
One thing I like about wave 3 is that they used the base game sky boxe textures instead of using textures from tour (which makes the skies look blurry and low res)
I genuinely think you have to be colorblind to think that 3DS Rainbow Road is only blue. I know he's just exaggerating but HOLY moly. This is legit my favorite Rainbow Road aesthetically.
Wave 3 is my favourite so far, this wave has some of my most favourite tracks, Maple treeway, peaches gardens and MK7 rainbow road. Feels weird but also nice to see the halfpipes return.
I think it’s my favorite rainbow road texture. I know the hot thing is to complain about the booster course tracks, but a lot of this seemed wayyyyy too harsh.
One part that I think everyone hasn't realized is in peach gardens is that on that glide section you can actually go through the peach and luigi bushes
I'm the guy who's been loving these new tracks and each one is getting better than the last😅 to me it's just fantastic they are adding so much fun content to such an already packed video game. MK8Dx was already one of the best (if not the best) racing games of all time and now it just got even more tracks, most of which are really fun.
Awesome vid, but I really don't get the blue rainbow road comment. I paused @8:44 and the only color I see is absent for the most part is yellow. That being said, I suppose a bit more red and green would make the colors appear more, well, colorful.
if you dont see a rainbow on that road i would get your eyes checked, looks like multiple colors to me, although i gotta agree the moon looks like doodoo
Ok one quick thing about your criticism of Boo Lake: yeah, it could’ve used some underwater lanterns and stuff, but things like coral and a sunken ship would’ve been better if it was Broken Pier that had been remade, yunno
The DLC is weird cos it's nice to have more tracks, and the cost is relatively cheap given the content. But the overall standard of quality is just a lot lower than the base game. But that's been the case since the Booster Pass started. Let's say the DLC was just it's own separate Mario Kart game, it would be like a 6 or 7/10, which is pretty poor for Mario Kart. But since it's extra content ontop of the existing game, it's easier to be go soft on it. It's also frustrating that some classic tracks are getting the Booster Course treatment, it feels like a missed opportunity. I'm just wondering what Mario Kart 9 will be. My concern is, it'll use this update model from the start. They also have the issue that, without DLC or updates, the amount of content is going to be tiny in comparison to 8 Deluxe.
With how they're taking it, it really is just extra money fodder. If they wanted to make a staple mario kart, they would've been willing to reintroduce and remake old classics, with a bit of clean up and refreshed and retouched maps. Instead they're poor ports being sold to be playable on the go in current hardware. This doesn't feel like staple mario kart material, it feels like a plea to wait for and fund the next installation to the series- which I don't think anyone is objecting to At the very least in both ways, hate it or not, mario kart fans are getting something for their patience.
I think Koopa Cape and Wii Rainbow Road are the two biggest examples where it would be shameful if Nintendo gives these courses the Booster Course treatment when they get added in the future. Imagine a one lap Wii Rainbow Road in Deluxe.
@@TheLonelyGoomba If the datamine is true, we are suppose to be getting 3 more Wii courses. DK Summit and Koopa Cape had banner leaks which confirmed those tracks will be included in Wave 4 and 5. The last track in the Blue Shell cup is a Wii track, since the first half of the Booster Course ended with a Rainbow Road it would only make sense to end the second half with a Rainbow Road unless Nintendo for some reason decided to go with Dry Dry Ruins as the Wave 6 Booster Course track which is datamined to come to Tour.
At least the GBA tracks have been mostly consistent and better than their original counterparts. Snow Land is actually fun now, and Boo Lake is totally underrated. Except for Sky Garden. All they had to do was tweak DS’s design a little. How dare they botch one of my favorite tracks. Instead of comparing it to the base game, because I feel like the BCP is doing its own thing, so I’m not as critical as others, I compare it to the original tracks, and the first remade tracks like Sky Garden before. Again, Snow Land is inf. better because it’s playable and gorgeous.
If I had to guess, adding all the fancy texturing tricks to the buildings on the London track would've required a great deal of optimization to keep things running smoothly, and they simply didn't have time. As for highlighting tracks on the minimap, it wouldn't surprise me if that thing's code was made very early on in development and is therefore buried deep and difficult to change. Mario Kart 8 has been continuously updated over many years by so many different coders at this point, they're probably starting to deal with spaghetti code. Especially if it's reusing code from previous Mario Kart games.
All I’m waiting for is Wii Rainbow Road and Toads factory to be included in the next three booster course passes. Seriously, they’re two of my favorite tracks of all time and I really hope they make it to Mario Kart 8 Edit: To defend MK7 rainbow road. Wii Rainbow road isn’t that rainbowy either but like… How the hell do you miss the point of rainbow road?!!!
I don’t think Toads Factory is coming, to my knowledge it’s not in Tour and if it isn’t in Tour or already being developed for Tour then it’s not coming to the booster pass
Finally someone who has the outlook I do about 3DS rainbow road's visuals in the booster pass. The road reminds me of blue raspberry fruit roll-up. Which doesn't mean it necessarily looks bad, but in the context of rainbow road I think they could've done something closer to what we're familiar with that's still visually distinct..
I agreed on most of your opinions about presentation compared to the base game but I did enjoy the changes made to 3DS Rainbow Road. Every Rainbow Road on Deluxe looks visually distinct which might not have been the case if they had just brought over the retro tracks without changing anything.
The one thing I can't really agree on is Rainbow Road, I don't really see the blue of it but I can certainly see the "Rainbow" of the road. Although I do have to agree with the moon being too dark it almost makes the map look unofficial which is really weird.
8:27 tldr because this spiraled a but out of control: "Directions and angles, bruv (yes this is realistic light distribution)". Because all the dark shots you showed are from the part that is angled away from the sun? It gets considerably brighter as you drive further up. I didn't think basic geometry and directional light would be an issue in a video game review but here we are. You can even see in multiple clips in this video how the ground gets considerably brigther once it is actually angled in a way that it is hit by the sunlight. Also stuff generally appears significantly darker when something extremely bright (like a SUN) is in your FoV (disclaimer: don't look directly into the sun to verify/disprove this, it ain't worth it). So yes, all of this is actually realistic, and probably even a properly rendered light distribution. Also, I don't know what others think, but I always thought the MK7 moon (e.g. 8:40) looked ugly as hell. But it indeed is bright
I'm glad someone else is calling out Silok out on this bullshit. Making this point is like if he walked into a previously lit room, turned off the lights, and bitched about it being dark now
maybe then angle the sun better? it looks really off-putting, even worse after seeing Lunar Colony, everything is way brighter and you can actually tell it's a moon and not a garbage rocky mess that is the moon in 3DS RR
@@Rodmjorgeh It's actually incredibly simple, Sun doesn't hit surface = no light on said surface Actually watch Silok's clip again, notice how the Sun only comes into view after he goes over the crater rims in this part of the moon. The lighting is perfectly fine, that's how it's supposed to be. His idea of how it's supposed to be lit feels like it came out of the mind of a toddler
@@Delta-lu5kf dude, i understand how light works lol, and I think silok is indeed wrong here as the sun is not shining the surface he's on, but again, it still looks bad, it's too dark just look at lunar colony again, like, it's so much brighter and let's you visualize everything so much clearer whereas in rainbow road it's just a rocky mess, it's hard to even tell it's a moon at some parts
@@Rodmjorgeh I actually think the strong contrast of the sun coming into view from behind the dark moon is really cool and works well visually. I don't see the problem with having a dark ground, it's not like there's much to see there anyway. It's definitely 100 times better than the "everything is uniformly lit, everywhere" standard set by the previous games (I understand the technical limitations that lead to that in the first place), but once they had the chance to do something better, I appreciate them going for it.
You're the first person I've seen agree with my opinion that rainbow road is just too desaturated and blue. I think it's also worth pointing out they greatly nerfed the layout, removing tons of elevation and making many turns that used to be tight much wider. It's pretty disappointing since I was so excited for this track to finally be playable on a home console.
I love your honesty here, but to me many of those flaws are nitpicks. But seriously get rid of those atrocious plant models and make the buildings more high texture pls Nintendo.
Great video :] I’m not unhappy with what we got but I think people would’ve been a lot happier if they brought over Tour characters and vehicles. It has such an enormous roster
Ironic that you talk about how the gameplay changes are only the ones made in Tour while showing Mushroom Gorge, arguably the track with the most gameplay changes compared to Tour (aside from Peach Gardens, which had the reverse route added specifically to 8 Deluxe). I agree that it was a lot more interesting seeing the overhauls 8 made to its retro courses, but there's usually at least a few small changes for every track, even compared to the Tour iterations over the originals (but even then, those can be a mixed bag). Some tracks also don't really need significant overhauls, and 8 understood this fairly well, as tracks like Grumble Volcano and Neo Bowser City didn't get changed much. I'm sure this isn't the last time we'll see some of these tracks, though, so I hope to see more substantial overhauls for them in the future.
One thing that i hate about rainbow road is that sometimes in the spiral section…. U CAN JUST CLIP TROUGH THE FLOOR, it happend to me one time and i lost that race, good track designed
I respect your opinion on Tour Berlin Byways. However, as it's my overall favorite course out of the entire series! I'll explain why I love it! Flame music! Whomps debut as an obstacle! Crossing paths on Lap 2/3! First Tour City Track to have traffic! And again, the music!!
"maybe add bits of seaweed or coral to the scenery" uhh is someone going to tell SiloHawk that Boo Lake is a Lake and thus can not have SEAweed or coral?
I don’t what you mean when your saying the rainbow road is too blue, since it still shows all colors of a rainbow. It look watercolored, but not completely blue. Sure, there’s some blue lines at the edges of the road, but that’s so small. I am not sure what your getting at. Edit: I do agree though that the moon is too dark.
2:00 When it comes to the idea of the map highlighting the current lap you're on, the best way I can think of to handle the issue with the 'arrow field' tracks would be to have an option to turn 'Lap Assist' on or off. There are two reasons for my concept: A: One player might be the kind of person that wants to have an easy time with the new DLC tracks, and having the map show you the way to go certainly helps, but it may ruin the element of surprise for the player that prefers to have it turned off so that they can experience going in blind and be taken aback by what the tracks throw at them, leaving them with a hopefully mind-blowing first impression, so an option to toggle the map assist on and off helps to cater to both types of players. Maybe if it is a fair design choice, you will not be able to use 'Lap Assist' in Grand Prix so that players can practice the Tour tracks with ease in Vs Race or Time Trials and try to tackle a Grand Prix race when they've mastered the tracks, after all, that's how you get consist 1st places, right? B: Whatever new tracks the next 3 waves give us that have lap switching involved, the Tour tracks in particular are likely to get wilder with each wave unless Nintendo intends to have the difficulty of the DLC cups on par with the base game cups if you catch my drift (e.g. the Fruit Cup is on the same area of the screen as the Shell Cup, so the tracks may be easier... or not), so a feature like this will be needed if the tracks are going to get wilder. Sure, people will be even more mind-blown by the next Tour tracks taking Mario Kart 8 to the next level, but that is only if they even like this type of track concept in the first place. The Tour Tracks in 8 Deluxe do have their own category in the game with their wacky nature of every lap bringing something different to the table, and the good news is, people who aren't comfortable with these tracks don't have to endure them to unlock everything through Grand Prix unless you're a genuine masochist like me. Me, personally, I absolutely love those new DLC tracks that use the arrow fields, this single new addition to Mario Kart has allowed for so many new crazy ideas for racetracks, and some tracks even take longer to finish than the average, which is a good thing for people who like to sink that many minutes into a single race. What I would like to see is a track that uses arrows, except that the arrow fields not only change every lap, but every time you replay the race, similar to Excitebike Arena and Animal Crossing where the track moved elements around every playthrough!
As someone who dislikes 3DS RR, I actually really like the rainbow effect they used here. The streaks of light that shine close to you make me think it's made of light particles, like a magical version of a hard light bridge from Portal 2, or the rainbow brigde from Thor. I guess it could look more colorful at a distance (they're fine up close), but it's not that bad. Also, I find it a bit funny how this track fails "the one consistent thing thoughout every Rainbow Road". I know you're talking about the colors of the road, but to me the "consistent thing" was the road being made of rainbow and _only_ rainbow. MK8's RR and N64RR also break this """rule""" in a way, but 3DS's "Rainbow and Space Rocks Road" is my least favorite.
@@madmonty4761 I said it in the second paragraph, it's because Rainbow Roads should be "made" only of rainbows: the road is a multicolored surface, sometimes but not always semitransparent, with maybe some additional gold pieces. I know, it's very much an "unwritten headcanon rule", but the first six RRs (SNES, N64, GBA, GC, DS and Wii) fit this criteria. The only times this "rule" is "broken" are on the 3DS and Switch. My problem with 3DS Rainbow Road is simply that you drive on non-rainbow surfaces. Were it any other track, I would be okay with the variety, but the whole point of RR is that it is a _rainbow_ road, it's a special, magical course. The planet rings segment, the moon surface and even the tunnel near the end all take away the magical feeling by literally grounding the track. MK8's Rainbow Road also lacks the magical vibes, due to being an entirely mechanical space station, but I find it better than 3DS': aside from the threadmills after the first gliding section, the entire track is on colored panels, the players are consistently racing on a rainbow. Also, considering how MK8 reinvents the retro tracks (instead of making then accurate to the originals), N64's RR (gloriously recreated with loads of whimsical charm) feels more like the de facto Rainbow Road of this game. As for "hating" the track, I don't. I dislike it, and I think people like it more than it actually deserves, but that's it.
@@madmonty4761 Well, yeah, it's mostly that. Kinda went overboard with the reply. I know it's an arbitrary reason, but I just don't like how it looks when compared to other Rainbow Roads.
Tracks I would love to see in the upcoming waves are, Daisy Cruiser, Dino Dino Jungle, Maka Wuhu, DK Summit, Wii Rainbow Road as the final course, and Airship Fortress as the final DS track!
One thing I don’t hear nearly enough people talking about is the flowers and leaves from Peach Gardens. Interestingly enough, this is the only track in the entire booster course pass that actually replaces the low poly Tour models with the ones from MK8
I still love the "Unrivaled Gameplay" argument, you addressed in your first booster pack video, and it made me think. Sadly, Mario Kart is still to this day unrivaled. If it had a real competitor, Nintendo would not be able to launch these low-effort tracks. I also wanted to address your 2 "You can have a different opinion." disclaimers in this video. You are not cynical. You rate the tracks based on objective arguments, which stem from your own knowledge in game-design and experience as a passionate player. These are the reasons, that make your work on this channel so special. No disclaimers needed.
I do agree that that version of rainbow road should look way better, the planets all look really flat with the lighting. But I am a little confused about the road part. It looks rainbow to me still. Like more colors than just blue. is it just me?
There ARE colo(u)rs, it does look kinda like a rainbow, but it looks like the blue value was cracked up several times to where it looks more blue than rainbow.
The cave in rock rock mountain is only supposed to be a transition to the forest area of the track which is the main part of the track while the cave in wario’s gold mine is the main part of the track
3:03 Nah the 3DS version looked way better. Rock Rock Mountain was a massive downgrade in terms of visuals compared to the 3DS version. They changed the entire vibe and now it almost just feels like any other generic course. Originally it had this really rough gray rocky aesthetic with these deep greens. But now it's just... generic cliff you see in every Tour track & Generic grass you see in every Tour track. They also did this with Koopa Cape which will also suck if/when it gets to BCP. The lack of texture is extremely apparent when comparing to the 3DS version.
As someone who lives in Germany I can say that Berlin byways describes German traffic perfectly it’s definitely a mess and that’s why I enjoy the track so much but it’s understandably not everybody’s cup of tea
Although I personally adore the BCP and am less critical of it, I think your critiques are fair and understandable. You are very good at articulating your thoughts. Very well made video sir
I feel like at some point mario kart tour is gonna close down the servers so nintendo will filling the bcp with tracks directly taken from tour not only City tracks but also tracks that are on tour (expect ds shroom ridge)
Here's my take on Wave 3 after playing it for a while: Tour London Loop: 7.5/10, around the level of 8's Mario Circuit GBA Boo Lake: 7/10, similar to what I would give to GBA Cheese Land 3DS Rock Rock Mountain: 6.4/10, like Dolphin Shoals or 3DS DK Jungle Wii Maple Treeway: 8.5/10, between Wario's Gold Mine and Grumble Volcano Tour Berlin Byways: 8.3/10, Almost as much as Toad Harbor DS Peach Gardens: 8/10, Almost as much as DS Tick-Tock Clock (Tour) Merry Mountain: 8.1/10, Better than Mount Wario IMO 3DS Rainbow Road: 9.4/10, My personal favorite track now
Thank you! All the other videos I've seen are like "I don't get why people are complaining about the graphics, they look great." And they look fine for something like Mario Kart Tour. But this is Mario Kart 8. I play this game to unwind because I find it really great to just take a break, drive, and look at 8's beautiful scenery as I drive by. But these tracks don't feel like Mario Kart 8 tracks at all. At best I have a slightly fun time with them, at worst I'm annoyed to get them again when playing random courses. And I actively wish I could un-buy the dlc so that these courses would stop showing up whenever I try to play online, I just want to play courses actually designed with Mario Kart 8 in mind. Nearly every single course in these booster packs are just repurposed Tour courses. I should know because I like to play Tour when I have to wait in doctor's offices. And that's great that Nintendo's getting more use out of these new courses and retro courses that they specifically designed for Tour. But by just dropping them all into Mario Kart 8 and changing barely anything, it makes Mario Kart 8 feel not feel like Mario Kart 8. Instead it feels like generic Mario Kart without the 8, and that's fine for some people but it's not what I come to the game for.
We’re all of these courses already in Tour or did they have to actually do some new remasters? I guess they did add some anti-gravity, but not much else. If any of these stages aren’t ports I wouldn’t be able to tell though, since I don’t play Tour.
The Booster Course Pass so far has felt like it's slowly climbing to the expectations I have for 8 DLC. I've had fun but I constantly feel like exdcept for a select few exceptions, in some way corners were cut or I have a few problems with each track. Somthing always feel off when I go from a base 8 track to a BCP track online. I hate how I have to say "this was the best wave so far" in a way that isn't me thinking that my expectatations were surpassed even further but they're getting closer to said expectations. I'm not gonna lie and say I haven't been impressed with different tracks this wave visually, Maple Treeway and Rainbow Road in particular (I mostly respectfully disagree with the critiques given with that track specifically except for the the moon part) but again I feel like we should be striving for higher than "slightly updated adaptations from our mobile game".
To be honest as much as I hate the fact that they took the visuals from the mobile game, I’m pretty sure if there wasn’t a game for them to directly take the textures, the dlc wouldn’t exist. It’s also pretty cheap. Now that isn’t an argument to say the dlc itself looks good, but I’d rather have some retro tracks that are a bit toned down, then not have them at all. My problem with the dlc is that they advertise the tracks like they are from the original games, despite the fact they are ripped straight from the mobile game, both design wise and mechanic wise. Although I will say the mobile game did improve on some of the tracks. Mushroom Gorge, Boo Lake and even Waluigi Pinball look and feel better in the dlc, than the original games to me. So I guess there’s that. But those examples are rare and when I look at what they did to Koopa Kape, both in terms of mechanics and visuals, I’d rather not even see it in the dlc.
Nintendo’s obviously advertising this dlc the way they are because their idiotic sheep fanbase would never even contemplate buying it if it was marketed as Tour tracks. Nintendo knows a looooot of people aren’t even open minded to play that game. Maybe if the fanbase was smarter Nintendo wouldn’t feel the need to exclude a prefix on the non city tour tracks XD
The reason they didn't save 3DS Rainbow Road for last is because it seems like they may be saving a certain other Rainbow Road for last. Nothing is confirmed obviously.
finally, someone who shares my feelings about 3ds rainbow road (at least with the visuals). that road just looks washed out, it doesnt really feel like a true rainbow road track. was honestly a bit disappointed when i first drove it.
I enjoy your videos as well as listening to your opinions even if I disagree with them. I personally don’t find it fair comparing the courses in base MK8 to the Booster courses I mean we are literally getting the same amount of tracks as the full entire 60 dll game for less than half the price for me the booster course delivers amazingly for the price that it is at. Youre basically getting an entire second game for just 25 dlls. Regardless tho great video like I said I do enjoy listening to what you have to say :) and I can understand where your points come from and I find most of them valid
I kinda hope at some point they go back to these tracks and put in enough effort to even match base 8. It’s unrealistic since that’s not what would make money but I can hope
They should but they won’t
There's 0 reason for them to bother with that
I mean they sorta did with coconut mall. Maybe they could if they want to.
Well, adding custom items doesn't make them money either, but they did it anyways.
Well, it would bring significant reputational gains to the company, which means more long-term income.
What’s funny about Boo Lake is that the first lamppost to the left before jumping into the water is not fully modeled and is just floating 😂
Oh my god it is. How did I never notice that. I’m gonna see that every time now lol.
2:20 for anyone wondering
it's floating because ghosts /s
It's not floating, it's being carried by a ghost
because a ghost holds it
Honestly Boo Lake surprised me from how the outside and lightning look with quite the effort baked in it compared to other DLC tracks
Maybe the head design people just particularly liked Boo Lake
Played a lot of Super Circuit, the dock used to be all above water but broken-looking. Having part of it fallen into the lake is dope as hell. As if the dock has broken since last played.
The 3DS Rainbow Road being so dark is a fair point. I actually didn’t notice that until you pointed it out.
I wish they had done a character pass to go with the booster course dlc…
yeah, that’s what MK8D needed honestly. I would’ve gladly traded half the new tracks for more polished tracks and a few new characters.
MK8D sold over 40 million copies and they do the least they can do for the game
@KingBooDude: this might happen 2024 after all the 6 Wave are done being release.
@@alfo2804 actually, simply porting characters from Tour would have been easy (according to modders)
All I gotta say is… ITS ABOUT TIME!
We can agree half the budget for the entire dlc went on 3ds rainbow road
5:20 Also compare that little subway bit to Super Bell Subway, where every sign, poster and map has cool easter eggs to other tracks, really tying the game together in a way not seen since Double dash. Here it's flat textures and a bunch of rectangles for the signs.
Subway that is on screen for 2 seconds vs Subway that is the entirety of the track. People out here with the most reasonable comparisons
@@doomse150 I get what you're trying to say, and ofc there's a difference. It would've been nice to at the very least have some real text on the signs above you. Maybe they could've had the names of some cool landmarks the country has 🤷♀

I think the dark moon fits the overall asthetics better
@@enderallygolem well, my problem is that the course is dark, it shouldn't be, no rainbow road at this point has been this dark simply because all roads in base 8 have an emission so the only dark part is the background, everything else is clearer, like the space station in MK8 RR

I should mention that the Rainbow Road is actually rainbow coloured. The reason why it looks bluish is because it's translucent.
AND I think it's because of the way they did it, and they used a water-like texture onto that Rainbow Road anyway
in my opinion this is the best rainbow road texture weve gotten
I love how the chain chomps pretty much NEVER hit you since they always bounce right over you.
Wave 3 is my favourite so far, this wave has some of my most favourite tracks, Maple treeway, peaches gardens and MK7 rainbow road. Feels weird but also nice to see the halfpipes return.
Rainbow Road's road is literally a constant rainbow that you can see as you are driving

I think the problem is that the other colors don’t really pop off as much like blue, so it ends up looking more neon than rainbow
if you dont see a rainbow on that road i would get your eyes checked, looks like multiple colors to me, although i gotta agree the moon looks like doodoo
Ok one quick thing about your criticism of Boo Lake: yeah, it could’ve used some underwater lanterns and stuff, but things like coral and a sunken ship would’ve been better if it was Broken Pier that had been remade, yunno
Glad to see you covering dlc like a month after I played it
The DLC is weird cos it's nice to have more tracks, and the cost is relatively cheap given the content.
This doesn't feel like staple mario kart material, it feels like a plea to wait for and fund the next installation to the series- which I don't think anyone is objecting to
At the very least in both ways, hate it or not, mario kart fans are getting something for their patience.
I think Koopa Cape and Wii Rainbow Road are the two biggest examples where it would be shameful if Nintendo gives these courses the Booster Course treatment when they get added in the future. Imagine a one lap Wii Rainbow Road in Deluxe.
@@burnypython8230 both of those courses are in Tour so it's gonna happen.
Seriously, they’re two of my favorite tracks of all time and I really hope they make it to Mario Kart 8
Edit: To defend MK7 rainbow road. Wii Rainbow road isn’t that rainbowy either but like…
How the hell do you miss the point of rainbow road?!!!

I feel like London Loop is missing all the knives and blood and stabbing
The shot of the town in Merry Mtn. was the first DLC footage that made me tiny-gasp the way I did whenever you cut back to the base game.
Tbh i like how transparent it is
Booster Pass 3 looks cool. I can't wait to play peach Gardens
you get blinded by the sun and that makes everything around it visibly darker
@@Rodmjorgeh It's actually incredibly simple, Sun doesn't hit surface = no light on said surface
Actually watch Silok's clip again, notice how the Sun only comes into view after he goes over the crater rims in this part of the moon. The lighting is perfectly fine, that's how it's supposed to be. His idea of how it's supposed to be lit feels like it came out of the mind of a toddler
@@Delta-lu5kf dude, i understand how light works lol, and I think silok is indeed wrong here as the sun is not shining the surface he's on, but again, it still looks bad, it's too dark
just look at lunar colony again, like, it's so much brighter and let's you visualize everything so much clearer whereas in rainbow road it's just a rocky mess, it's hard to even tell it's a moon at some parts
Videos keep getting more entertaining, dude. Keep it up! 👍
Great video :] I’m not unhappy with what we got but I think people would’ve been a lot happier if they brought over Tour characters and vehicles. It has such an enormous roster
The rainbow road itself looks pretty rainbow to me. 🫤

Crossing paths on Lap 2/3!
First Tour City Track to have traffic!
And again, the music!!
What I like about high school is being able to say “I know that word” to juxtapose which I learned a few days ago
"maybe add bits of seaweed or coral to the scenery" uhh is someone going to tell SiloHawk that Boo Lake is a Lake and thus can not have SEAweed or coral?
In that case, maybe Broken Pier would’ve been a better choice.

The video we’ve been waiting for!
2:00 When it comes to the idea of the map highlighting the current lap you're on, the best way I can think of to handle the issue with the 'arrow field' tracks would be to have an option to turn 'Lap Assist' on or off. There are two reasons for my concept:
A: One player might be the kind of person that wants to have an easy time with the new DLC tracks, and having the map show you the way to go certainly helps, but it may ruin the element of surprise for the player that prefers to have it turned off so that they can experience going in blind and be taken aback by what the tracks throw at them, leaving them with a hopefully mind-blowing first impression, so an option to toggle the map assist on and off helps to cater to both types of players.
Why do you hate it
@@madmonty4761 I said it in the second paragraph, it's because Rainbow Roads should be "made" only of rainbows: the road is a multicolored surface, sometimes but not always semitransparent, with maybe some additional gold pieces.
@@philcoast1031 thats has to many words all i got was its not rainbow
@@madmonty4761 Well, yeah, it's mostly that. Kinda went overboard with the reply. I know it's an arbitrary reason, but I just don't like how it looks when compared to other Rainbow Roads.

These are the reasons, that make your work on this channel so special. No disclaimers needed.

Nah the 3DS version looked way better.
Yeah, Merry Mountain looks really good

It's a bit difficult to believe that you do think this was the best wave when you've actually been more citical to it than to the previous two
I feel like at some point mario kart tour is gonna close down the servers so nintendo will filling the bcp with tracks directly taken from tour not only City tracks but also tracks that are on tour (expect ds shroom ridge)
Here's my take on Wave 3 after playing it for a while:
Tour London Loop: 7.5/10, around the level of 8's Mario Circuit
GBA Boo Lake: 7/10, similar to what I would give to GBA Cheese Land
3DS Rock Rock Mountain: 6.4/10, like Dolphin Shoals or 3DS DK Jungle
Wii Maple Treeway: 8.5/10, between Wario's Gold Mine and Grumble Volcano
Tour Berlin Byways: 8.3/10, Almost as much as Toad Harbor
DS Peach Gardens: 8/10, Almost as much as DS Tick-Tock Clock
(Tour) Merry Mountain: 8.1/10, Better than Mount Wario IMO
3DS Rainbow Road: 9.4/10, My personal favorite track now
Even if you didn’t buy the DLC the tracks will appear online. Just get more used to them
We’re all of these courses already in Tour or did they have to actually do some new remasters? I guess they did add some anti-gravity, but not much else. If any of these stages aren’t ports I wouldn’t be able to tell though, since I don’t play Tour.
Was 1 was pretty much ports with little tweaks, the other waves are graphical upgrades of the Tour versions.
There’s a huge quality difference between the base game and what we’ve got for expansions
The reason they didn't save 3DS Rainbow Road for last is because it seems like they may be saving a certain other Rainbow Road for last. Nothing is confirmed obviously.
I disagree with the blue rainbow road part personally.
If they added characters from tour we would've had much less to complain
finally, someone who shares my feelings about 3ds rainbow road (at least with the visuals). that road just looks washed out, it doesnt really feel like a true rainbow road track. was honestly a bit disappointed when i first drove it.
You should do a ranking of all the Mario parties!!!!
Wait, what about custom item selection?
I do wanna say the road in rainbow road isn't blue there is a rainbow texture but it looks more blue because of the anamation
Yoshi's wooly & crafted world
Paper mario
Kirby epic yarn
And now, mario kart clay
I enjoy your videos as well as listening to your opinions even if I disagree with them. I personally don’t find it fair comparing the courses in base MK8 to the Booster courses I mean we are literally getting the same amount of tracks as the full entire 60 dll game for less than half the price for me the booster course delivers amazingly for the price that it is at. Youre basically getting an entire second game for just 25 dlls. Regardless tho great video like I said I do enjoy listening to what you have to say :) and I can understand where your points come from and I find most of them valid
I feel the same way about rainbow road and my friends too just shrugged it off as me being nitpicky
I do like the new texture on Saturn's rings though
Hes not wrong
