loving the
honestly, I agree that
The what?
Same I love the too
Yes it is the best of
what are you talking
The dlc in my opinion is 100% worth it. Yea it has its issue but 48 tracks were brought back and waves 4, 5, 6 were amazing.
Nothing was amazing compared to the DLC in the base game.
@@SchmergDergen so are you saying the DLC was amazing?..
@@torocat4911 the original 2 waves of DLC was amazing. The majority of the booster course was mid, there were a few good tracks.
@@SchmergDergen still 48 tracks on top of the existing 48, 96 tracks in total in mario kart? That's a lot, imagine if Nintendo even put in an extra final cup just to make 100 tracks, still, 96 tracks is great
@@mariotheundying I'd still prefer quality. I'd rather 24 tracks that look like the base game.
To this day, the only thing I’m upset about with the booster course pass is the fact that they didn’t add a 96 race option in vs mode…
That one’s going into top 10 fumbles of all time
For real though...would have been an easy thing to add I imagine.
So I'm not the only one who thinks it.
6:18 Dude that transition was SMOOTH AF...
I’d like to note, it did get two brand new features and not just one. In addition to custom items, there’s also the music player added in wave 6. Most people won’t use it that much but it’s still a great addition as this game has a phenomenal OST.
I literally just found out custom items weren't in the base game...
@@somethingAccurateit is now, you don’t need the BCP to use custom items
The redemption arc the DLC went on is crazy, comparing wave 1 to waves 4-6 and the level of quality is night and day imo. Definitely worth it imo, had a blast with it the whole way through
Wouldn't have needed a redemption arc if it wasn't so half assed. And after it was "redeemed" it still didn't even touch the 2015 DLC.
@@SchmergDergenbro stfu, have you seen how good Wave 4 Wave 5 and Wave 6 look?
The fact it doubled the content is insane
It even tripled since the original Wii U launch
Not nearly, it's actually triple
@@Ministevo1 I wasn't confident with my math, fixed it
Back in my day, we only had 4 cups. Mushroom, Flower, Star and Special Cup. And that was fine. We really have it good nowadays, especially since the game looks so amazing.
@@xattrickmazeo5782yea but it also means no matter what a Mario kart 9 will be dissapointing in comparison

Just to add, Sky-High Sundae, Yoshi's Island, and Squeaky Clean Sprint are all Tour Nitro courses, their data has been in Tour long before their release in 8DX.
Despite being “new” Sky High Sundae, Yoshi’s Island & Squeaky Clean Sprint were made for Tour, they just ended up being released in 8DX first before their Tour debut

I really need to mention, they aren’t new tracks. They’re just Tour courses being marketed as new. They’ve all been in Tour’s files since it launched
Thank you! You are the only person I know that has mentioned this. _Every_ track, whether previously _Tour_ exclusive or from another mainline entry, adopts its _Tour_ aesthetic. It still bothers me how they clash with the base game’s tracks, especially when it comes to textures.
There was effort put into some of the tracks in the Booster Course Pass, most definitely, but the art direction is personally very off putting to me. It leaves me wishing what these tracks would look like with an equal amount of love and care the original game got, including its track design.
@@IronBlaze77 yeah. I’ve always believed that they’re Tour nitros. I’m very passionate about this topic

@@NickMario1Hey man
@@Double400 you fool!
I think shroom ridge is a great track it's very underrated
DS Shroom Ridge is actually the one traffic course where the traffic felt like an actual hazard unlike in N64 Toad's Turnpike (ESPECIALLY) & even Wii Moonview Highway where they are more of a nuisance than actual hazards.
DS Shroom Ridge even got an awesome new shortcut in the end
Can say it's one of the best Wave 1 DLC tracks & the new remix for DS Shroom Ridge doubles down on the DS & feel good feeling in the track
@kendrick5501 I know it's actually one of my favorite tracks and also mkds was the first mk game that I played
6:33 I want to mention, because it seems like people forget this, but the announcement trailer for the BCP said "you might recognise prior tracks from previous Mariokart games", they never said it was ONLY going to be old tracks.
You forgot to also mention that in wave 6 a bunch of new mii costumes were added. A few of which have their own animations :)
All actually have their own animations, which is just awesome
This was such a well made video Mariomikester! I'm glad this popped up in my algorithm. I am about to finish my 9 YEAR MARIO KART 8 REVIEW on my channel and this was nostalgic to look back at since iv'e been playing it since the Wii U. You have a new subscriber.
6:18 that was SOOOOO smooth!
It's clear how much energy and passion was put into this video! I enjoyed it a lot!!
The amount of over the top superlatives used in this video is nauseating.

I think it’s a good track, just with shortcomings that hold it from being one of the best. But still happy with its inclusion.
@@samuelevans5129Same can’t go a race set without playing that track atleast once sometimes
Booster course pass has... new courses, new characters, old courses, new modes, new concept. Id say this technically this has all of the features to be considered a new mario kart game, even if its technically a dlc.
The most phoned in Mario Kart game of all time if so.
For me, The Booster Pass + Tour kind of morphed into a Mario Kart 9 experience
And technically a new track mechanic too, as it ports the multiple ways mechanic from Tour.
Now, whether or not it is actually good depends a lot on the tracks, but a new mechanic is a new mechanic.
@@LudiusQuassas yeah but it's only used in boring city courses. If this was Mario Kart 9 it would be the worst console Mario Kart since 64.

Figure-8 Circuit: And I took that personally.
Honestly, custom items in vs mode is my favourite part. You can have some incredibly chaotic fun on it!
I really love the Booster Course Pass. The one of the only tracks that disappointed me was GBA Sun Wilds. It was my favorite GBA track in both Super Circuit and Tour mainly because of the night time mechanic, so the fact that it’s gone in the Booster Course Pass remake really made me upset, and makes me wish we got Yoshi Desert or GBA Bowser’s Castle 4 😢
Also, I do kinda wish we got Piranha Plant Pipeline just for the sake of having every Tour track in 8 Deluxe (I thought the Booster Course Pass was going to preserve every Tour track 🤔)
When did sunset wilds STOP being your favorite GBA track in Super Circuit? Your use of past tense implies it isn’t anymore.
Just to answer your comment about the city tracks from Tour feeling directionless, that’s because they weren’t intended to be all together. In Tour, the city tracks are split into different courses, with each one having several reverse and trick variants. So instead of there being only one Paris Promenade course, for example, there’s Paris Promenade, Paris Promenade 2, Paris Promenade 2R, Paris Promenade 2T, Paris Promenade 2R/T, etc. In the Booster Course Pass, those all are condensed into a single course, which of course takes out a bunch of the subtlety and variety. (Some courses, like Tokyo Blur and New York Minute, actually got 4 tracks.)
Another reason MK8 players may have been disappointed in the Tour track layouts is due to the differences in how the games play. MarioKart Tour is based on a point system, and the curves (which let you drift for a mini-turbo), coins, and jumps let you get point combos. None of that matters in MK8, where the only goal is to get first place, so the design principles behind the creation of the track are quite different.
I think of the Booster Course Pass as the love letter to MarioKart Tour. Tour started off with random loot boxes, too much track recycling, and no battle mode, which turned so many people off of the game. Eventually all those problems got solved, but not before it got a lot of negative press. Some people also didn’t like the controls, which can be customised to a certain extent, but they definitely take getting used to and aren’t the same. Those people didn’t stick around to see Tour get almost triple the number of courses that MK8 got (even with the BCP), and many more fan-favourite drivers. It was nice that the Booster Course Pass preserved all the Tour original tracks (except Piranha Plant Pipeline 😢) so that we could continue playing our favourite tracks if Tour were ever taken offline. The redone Staff Roll credits sequence at the end of the BCP was such a brilliant mashup of the music (I confess I was in tears the first time I heard it), because so much of Tour was encapsulated in that soundtrack!
So, as a longtime Tour fan, I would voice a stronger “yes” than you would about whether BCP is good. Tour is now in “loop mode”, repeating what was easily the best year in its five-year run, but still repeating. The BCP gives me hope that Nintendo will return to its products and give us fresh new content to the games we love.
I watched the whole video. I subscribed. You're now my favorite Mario Kart youtuber.
aside from that, i completely agree with you, even though I wasn't that disappointed in Wave 1 because I just wanted new content for the game... I usually prefer quantity over quality, but this was a desperate case because, as you said, we've been playing this game for freaking 10 years
I'm a huge fan of MK Super circuit and I just got a switch yesterday. I was pretty disappointed when I first played the new ribbon road because it doesn't have all the boost pads. Imo that's what made ribbon road so special on GBA. Trying to hit every one of those boosts is such a fun challenge and it feels great when I pull it off
One thing I wanted from this dlc was the return of Donkey Kong Jr; he hasn’t been in a MarioKart game since Super MarioKart
Genuinely thought this was a 100k+ channel, storytelling was top notch, great potential!
As someone who is only just now picking this up after playing the base Wii version for years... this is a real treat. 48 new courses and 8 new characters is like a completely new game. Issues or no, I'm extremely good with this. Especially when you consider that even some of the standard tracks were not without fault, on the whole - how can you go wrong. Thanks for the review!
YESS NEW MARIOMIKESTER VIDEO
another banger from the mikester himself. i love your content man. inject it in my veins
I hope Nintendo issue a update on the BCP to make the visual wave 6 level
I hated that they got rid of the setting sun and the Native American shy guys from the GBA original Sunset Wilds.
The Native American Shy Guys were only in the Japanese version of Super Circuit. Bringing that back would be offensive. Oh and they’re not even in Tour either, better to just reuse the same Shy Guys from that version
@@sahaprocks7751It isn't offensive. I despise it when people feel they have to be a super defender spokesperson of a group of people they aren't even a part of. Just stop already.
@@michaelschwader7944 well everybody says it’s offensive. And if they actually did put it in 8 Deluxe, you bet there would be backlash from those people
@@sahaprocks7751 By everybody, what you really mean is the ones that screech the loudest; however, you should know that just because they're loud, it doesn't make them the majority. They're just the extremely obnoxious minority.
@@michaelschwader7944 yeah that’s what I meant by everyone.
I wish they added more brand new tracks. It would be cool to see a brand new rainbow road.
I honestly wanted a new rainbow road that was themed after the super mario movie
Now, I’d be lying if I said the Booster Course Pass looks better, and it had some issues graphically, but I like the look of it better than the base game. As time goes on, I find myself liking some of the tracks less for being a bit muted in the colors, kinda desaturated… just not Mario enough. I expect a bright, colorful world of mushroom guys, turtle dudes, and a cartoony Italian man wahoo-ing around. The colors here are a lot brighter and feel more Mario. That said, the base game still has some great looking visuals, so they’re pretty even, in my opinion. For every Toad Circuit in the DLC, there’s a SNES Donut Plains 3. And for every 3DS Rainbow Road, there’s an N64 Rainbow Road.
And for the tracks, I think they all play well enough and are fun enough. Sure, you have some basic tracks, but I mean, a lot of the real basic tracks were at the start of the DLC… where they, you know, make sense to ease players in to them, same as the Nitro and Retro tracks that headline the base game for any Mario Kart.
Also, we got more DKC love, and I’m never gonna be upset with that.
U capping, the realistic art style of the wii u game is peak and should be the direction mk10 takes instead of the plastic bland tour one the dlc took
@@Pau31076 You… do realize I opened with “I’d be lying if I said the Booster Course Pass looks better, and it had some issues graphically” right?
It’s purely my opinion that I like a brighter, more colorful aesthetic for Mario. And I’d prefer bright and colorful over realistic, any day.
@@wootmasterzorsx It's always funny watching people get upset whenever someone says that they like the colorful aspect and direction the BCP went lol. I love the BCP visuals more than the base game. Sure, some tracks look bad, but it's more Mario and colorful. The base game has high textures, but the colors are much darker and don't fit Mario.
@@mailpaper7754 I do think I enjoy both visual styles for different reasons. The base game’s tracks, when they pop, they POP. There are some incredibly beautiful tracks.
But I also think the BCP looks overall solid and has some tracks that can match and even exceed the base game, like Waluigi Pinball and Waluigi Stadium. I think the BCP looks more Mario and I do like it better to an extent, but I think both visual styles have their merits.
It was amazing tbh, my hype started at wave 4 after they announced a character lol, i was thirsty wanting pauline representation, after they announced more slots, my hype flew high up in the sky!
6:18 damn that transition
I will forgive any shortcomings because they brought back my boi diddy kong
the dlc made the game so much better. if there was no dlc mk8d would be one of my least favourite mario kart games
It’s worth it for all the new tracks you get and some of them are the best tracks in the game
I found someone who agrees that Mario kart 64 was so underrepresented
I think that the DLC, while good, has wasted potential. I think that they shouldn’t have ported all the Tour city tracks. In my opinion, the only good ones are Singapore Speedway, Athens Dash, and Vancouver Velocity. I also think that they should’ve put one Bowser’s Castle from each game and each game’s Rainbow Road. I also think that they should’ve done Toad’s Factory instead of Daisy Circuit, Luigi’s Mansion instead of Shroom Ridge, and Airship Fortress instead of Mario Circuit. I especially hate Toad Circuit, LA Laps because of the oil section which I don’t associate with LA at all, and Sunset Wilds as the sun doesn’t set. That being said, I liked all six of the nitro tracks, the fan favorites such as Maple Treeway and Waluigi Pinball that they did bring back, and the characters that they brought back.
Hooonnnkkk mimimimimi cope cope cope honnnnkkk mimimimimi
Having every Rainbow Road is a horrible idea, and Nintendo would never do it. They never put the best tracks in a single game cause there's always more and they need to save some. Plus, Rainbow Roads are cool, but playing the same theme over and over again would be annoying. It would be just like the city tracks. Heck, 5 Rainbow Roads in a single game has already been annoying to some.
Yeah sky high sundae yoshis island and squeaky clean sprint were originally planned for Mario kart tour but they put them in Mario kart 8 deluxe to test out the tracks
And the same thing with some of these tracks like kalamari desert you could go on the tracks in Mario kart tour way before Mario kart 8 deluxe
the bcp artstyle including wave 1 is a better mario artstyle than base mk8
I want smash bros kart, Mario kart ultimate and a reboot with awesome mechanics that revolutionizes the franchise this applies to every franchise ever 😂 but if I had to pick one I’d say a reboot for every franchise ever don’t right is cool cause we can always go back if we ever want to
for 25 bucks the nitpicks dont really matter
17:00 "Diddy Kong 😄, Funky Kong 😄, Pauline 😄, and peachette... 😔"
My main issue is we have 96 tracks and only 2 bowsers castles (3 bowser courses if you count Neo bowser city)
3DS RR, SIngapore and Squeeky Clean are def my top 3 DLC tracks tho some of Wave 6 comes close and the odd city track liky Athens, Sydney or Vancouver
Coconut mall got buffed when they added the cars moving
The way I like to see this dlc, is that nintendo is selling us another game for half the price. 48 tracks is an insane amount of content, regardless of graphics.
i think the main problem with the booster course pass is two things
1. mario kart 8 is now way more retro courses than nitro courses
2. the next mario kart game is going to have to have so much content to try and top mario kart 8 deluxe, which only had 48 courses, the next mario kart wouldn't even have needed 48,
the quality could be 100% perfect and these problems would still be there
I would've loved to see one or both of the Mario Kart 7 Wuhu Island tracks, but I'm pretty happy with the DLC. The graphics never bothered me.
Screw GTA VI, I want to know when Mario Kart 9 is coming out.
Its really obvious the BCP was a last minute decision since all of the tracks are from Mario Kart Tour which was still getting content so they added a price for 8 Deluxe
why do you only have 30k subs! So underrated.
No, the booster course pass IS good, it didn’t just arbitrarily stop being that because the last wave was released, I don’t get why everyone always uses past tense for this stuff.
Just the fact that there are now NINETY SIX tracks in this game adds so much replay value, and while some of the visuals are disappointing I think the fact that the DLC contained 48 tracks and even more characters and features completely makes up for it
He really needs to do ones on things that aren't good
Mariomikester are you excited for GTA 6
Ps my favorite track ever is Waluigi Pinball and I’m so happy it wasn’t done dirty like Coconut mall
yes i am very excited for gta 6
It kinda was done dirty, it’s the only track in the game to not have an original song and lost the cool item roulette sound effects. Still a banger track and visually one of the best of the BCP but it could’ve been better
I'm hoping toad's factory gets the recognition it deserves in Mario kart 9. I can't believe they added daisy circuit into the booster course instead of that
Because the latter actually got into Tour
Toads factory would've been amazing
It came and went we need more
Are we not going to talk about the new Mii suits added too?
It kinda felt like Mario Kart 8.5 for me but half the Proce for MK8DX
Totally worth it
It’s always crazy to me to see how people don’t care about the racing in this RACING game, if you want to play a game for it’s locations go play Botw or Elden Ring, why are we not having discussions about how the racing feels on each track, Mario Circuit 3 feels incredible in 200cc, literally one of the best tracks in the game for racing feel
I think this point does get swept under the rug a lot. However I feel wave 6 really hit the good graphics and good racing feel. All 8 tracks feel satisfying and tight to race on even with the recency bias.
I agree. I never noticed the texture of the grass or whatever being a bit more or less HD while I'm playing the game.
I mean, Mario Circuit 3 is a flat SNES track with very basic obstacles and a single tiny boost panel at the end, no wonder most people were going to prefer more bombastic courses, considering that’s usually the standard for most newer Mario Kart courses
Yea fr
I see some people criticize a track for looking boring and it’s all our opinions tbf, but tracks like snes Mario circuit are easily the best to me because it’s a great layout and it’s almost always a close race.
EXACTLY. This was literally my thoughts when i was watching this
best part of it was the ammount of wii tracks for me lol still wanted more wii tracks by the time it was done
is it a one time payment only? like it will be permanently yours?
or was it like a membership for a yearly access?
You can buy it for 25$ once or you can get it for free with Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack for 50$ per year
Both, actually.
Well most of us didn't have a Wii U, so the switch was the first chance we got to play mk8
i like how nintendo patched the old tracks as people complained about then, i really like the booster pack, because it added new mechanics, the original mario tracks mechanics are anti gravity water and air glide, and i like that the boostercourse try to vary a little bit even if the new mechanics are not as fun as anti gravity, the changing routes in laps is cool not as good as anti gravity but its cool to catch up the last players and hit then as the first place =P or the inverse can happen too, the jumping at the edges is very cool as well, so overall i like it only downside is bad graphics.
Mario kart is awsome forlife imagine what the next Mario kart game looks like 😊 also it’s international as well
I’m just excited for Mario kart 9 like Mario kart 8 looked beautiful on the Wii U and MK9 will be out more than 10 years after MK8
It doubled the content, of course its worth it
I was hoping for Wario Stadium 64 to be released somewhere on the DLC, but nope...
Wave 5 is the reason I bought Mario Kart 8 DX and the booster course.
Good content, beautiful tracks, returning characters, meta balance, all important to sell me the game.
The first 3 waves are the most dissapointment thing in the dlc, but after wave 4 the quality improved, except sunset wilds..
Tbh, I'm fine with the over representive of Wii courses, because I pray for the other tracks being in MK9
8:20 What kind of bothers me about stuff like that how "gamey" it is. I mean, those new ramps are just... there. For no reason. I know it's just Mario Kart, but normally these type of stuff happens, because stuff on the track changed. I kind wished they would come up with logical reasons why a new path opened up.
The real question is how many more episodes until one piece is done
I absolutely love your positivity and optimism for games. Your channel is so underrated. I had a great time with the BCP and its a bittersweet feeling that its over.
16:18 why is no one addressing that mariokart 8 is the only split-screen game that this course has been in and that’s why it doesn’t set?
I will stand that Mario circuit 3 being the best map in the game and it’s simplistic style adds charm and makes it stand out more.
Bro just doesn’t understand how some tracks might have flat colors but just because the materials are basic doesn’t mean they don’t look good

Has a wii fan there is definitely too much wii. I mean, every character from that game is in mk8, and almost every course, including the retro tracks that were retro in wii
HOT TAKE: i spent 200hrs with the DLC and 400 with the base game and i prefer the DLC
its cuz the graphics being worse at times dont bother me at speed while racing i barely notice but the the retros were all new as were tour cuz i hadnt played since 64/SC (which was so diff in the DLC) and DD 20+yrs ago -WHY you ask? - i like segment and city tracks and other tracks that have unique layouts for EACH LAP it literally adds 3x the replay value imo cuz u gotta learn the course,
Obv some suck but so do some base tracks but even bad ones on the DLC often have atleast one good lap or wild part - and i found m3 fav tracks to be 3ds RR/Squeeeky clean/Singapore Sprint and overall i like the DLC more (even shroom ridge is basic but feels great despite being a repeat track cuz of the flow of the the course so that helps too) - i hope next game we get non city tracks but that are more natural in their implementation of 3 unique laps/segment tracks for every track (and a mode where u can 'shuffle' and as u cross the finish each lap it gives a slow fade into that lap from a random course (but same for every racer) - that'd be wild
I remember playing in grade 3 or 4 with my cousin, and now I have a switch planning to buy Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and enjoy the experience once more!
They should have had a bowser cup
My only complaint was too many boring tour city tracks and some of the textures aren’t as good as the base game. But besides that, I think it was great and a great addition
I just got MK8D for $50. How much extra is the booster pass?
25$ or free if you have Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack
I don't get why airship fortress is a fan favourite, basically any other ds track (aside from figure 8 circuit) is better
how was i just tricked to wait 20 minutes to hear 4 words
This is an incredibly petty complaint but I wish that there were a few more tracks that didn't have Toads and Yoshis around the sides of the circuit
