With Wave 3 of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass DLC recently releasing, I thought I'd go through every single retro track released so far from Wave 1, Wave 2, and Wave 3 and play every other version of each course to see if the Booster Course DLC is better, or worse...

The funniest part about Shroom Ridge is in the original where the cars are going in opposite directions the divider line is white which indicate they should be going in the same direction, where in the remake they changed the line to orange/yellow which indicates opposite directions and made them go in the same direction 💀
We like some illegality in our children racing games.
HELP
So they’re illegal in both Versions
Well, the color thing doesn't work like that at least in most of Europe. Here, the line is white most of the time and to indicate if it's same direction or not we differenciate them with continuous line or multiple intermittent lines. The color yellow is only used temporarily if there's a construction nearby to indicate, well, there's a construction so you should go slower and the track may has been temporarily modified.
Funny, cause that's not how all roads work in some countries. Countries like Australia don't make it as obvious, unless you're on a multi-lane highway where the traffic going the opposite direction is separated by a solid line, some kind of boundaries, or a separate road nearby.
You pointing out the many details between the multiple versions was such a treat. Makes me really appreciate some of the changes they decided to make. This was a really entertaining video, dude.
Especially when they had versions from other ports which is so cool
@WackyChu theres still differences between the tour and original versions, this video has nothing to do with the recycling of tracks even if it is annoying
The weird thing is that half pipes are only being added in the wave three, which is especially weird since Wario' Gold Mine removed the half pipe for what now feels like no reason
"Half-pipes" that they've added are basically a reworked anti-gravity segment.
Safe to say at the time when they're making Wario's Gold Mine, they weren't serious about bringing half-pipes back (both 7 and 8 did not have it) But by the time Booster Courses Pass came around, they already decided to bring half-pipes back for Tour. So at the end, the devs thought "why not" and rework anti-gravity panels into a half-pipe substitute.
Yeah, I don't think they decided on bring half-pipes back until Wii Maple Treeway was added to Tour. I mean, the Tour version of N64 Yoshi Valley (based on the MK8 basegame version) ADDED a half-pipe ramp, and that course NEVER had a half-pipe before.
@@ArendAlphaEagle that's actually very interesting.
That was actually hype, I love the half-pipes.
That's probably because Tour brought back the half-pipes for the first time since Wii and the idea of putting them in Mario Kart 8 didn't come around until the DLC.
One thing you didn't mention in Waluigi Pinball is that, in the original version, you hear a "Pinball Game Over" sound effect, when you pass through the flickers. In Mario Kart 8, the sound effect is absent. It's a shame, because it added to the atmosphere that you are in a pinball machine.
I thought for sure that they'd bring that back in Wave 3, but they didn't.
It's really odd how it's still in the course intro, but not in the course itself.
He didnt mention it came badck on 3DS' retro tracks too
@@MrOfflineAlways To be fair, 7 has terrible retro tracks because of how much it ruins them. (Koopa Cape is the most infamous example.)
people get too pissed bout that tbh, it's just a sound effect.
Oh boo hoo my precious sound effect 😭😭😭😭
This version of of Madz looks soooooo cute
He’s adorable
This is an ugly character design
@@LiterallyDrew Agreedn't.
@@LiterallyDrew your so riwrong
Madz:😳
After initial confusion when you went from N64 to DS, I remembered the tragic Double Dash situation
good thing Waluigi Stadium is here now
What happened to Double Dash?
@@adlirez it was the fact that, when this video was made, up until wave 3, there were 0 double dash courses in the BCP
I think my major gripe with mushroom gorge (one of my top courses as a kid) is that the change in physics on the mushrooms ticks me off to no end. I just can't play the course now because I can't get the timing correct anymore. I loved how high and flying you felt in the wii version but now it BUGS ME
I love the humor in this video. And I agreed with a lot you had to say. Personally I'd say Rock Rock Mountain got an unfortunate down grade both visually and gameplay wise. It was one of my favorite tracks in 7. Mostly due to glider physics in 7 being much better than 8's. And unfortunately this track has tour's artstyle and botched gliders. Making it sadly worse in my opinion. But it's still a lot of fun. Also am really happy about Maple Treeway and 3DS Rainbow Road.
You should get a job at Wikipedia or something
@@aramis4347They wrote a single paragraph?
Maple Treeway is honestly my favorite of the tracks. It’s just plays really well compared to a lot of the booster courses, and it looks beautiful.
@@Tortilla_Pizzeria_Pixels my favorite is 3DS Rainbow Road. It's been my all time favorite track ever since I started playing Mario Kart 7 6 years ago.
Completely agree
Waluigi's pinball machine, and tic tok clock will always be my top favorite maps.
3ds won all tracks that have glider sections imo. 7's glider physics were so good!
Ain’t gonna lie, seeing Waluigi’s Pinball returning in Tour and the Booster Course pack is definitely the best thing Nintendo gave us.
Also, in Coconut Mall, the giant spinning ball thing with Coconut Mall written on it above the fountain has been removed since mk7.
Kalamari Desert is one of my favorites in the new booster pack because in the N64 version you could manage to get on the train track and actually drive through the tunnel, and in the new remake, that’s actually a part of the race! I love how they saw people doing that in the original and said, “alright, we’ll make it official then!”
3DS Rainbow road is my favourite track of all time, and the remake is literally what I'd imagined Mario Kart 9 to be
7:07 This really made me realise that I was probably the only person on Earth who’s wanted Shroom Ridge to come back for year lmao
Also I’m boutta say it again, I LOVE YOUR CHARACTER’S REDESIGN SO MUCH
Thanks you so much !!
@@GetMadz I still need to ask but, what is that thing above your right eye? Is it a tuft of hair? A monocle? I NEED TO KNOW!
I noticed he does that a lot
@@Creeper_Me i think it's to indicate that his hair is actually going over his eye, but made see-through so you can read his expression easier, as an artistic choice, etc.
I love Shroom Ridge too but sadly it looks ugly :(
I like how you compared the retro tracks to ALL previous versions not just their originals. Also FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE WHO WANTS AN ALL RAINBOW ROAD SPINY SHELL CUP
I love how this guy constantly changes his artstyle for his character.
I'm guessing that he'll have realistic human fingers which would be kinda weird and attractive.
Dude its like every video Madz artstyle gets better and better. I seriously dont know how you do it but i love it
thanks for the kind words!!
@@GetMadz no problem! :)
I love the artstyle, the humor, the animation, the everything
thank you so much!!
@@GetMadz so you gonna update this video for each wave?
id love to see the tour courses covered, as someone who never played tour id love to see how they adapted them
They combined all versions
7:53 “THIS IS ILLEGAL!” The realization how the cars are driving the same direction (not on the interstate by the way) is kinda hilarious.
7:05 just putting this here because I like the whole Shroom Ridge overall.
Definitely would be happy to see a video covering MK tour courses
Rock Rock Mountain was one of the most memorable for me... My heart hurts.
The ideas and work he puts into his videos are amazing and creative
I’m sad that Wario’s Galleon didn’t return over Rock Rock Mountain, it’s such an underrated track with an incredibly distinct theme! Honestly, that mindset goes for Toad Circuit as well.
Swap out Toad Circuit with Shy Guy Bazaar and Rock Rock Mountain with Wario Shipyard, perfect 3DS line-up!
I really wasn’t expecting a Mario kart video but this was amazing
I am amazed that the animation is literally satisfying! Good video, anyway.
No tour tracks?
I know you couldn’t really play them due to the way Tour rotates tracks but I think the tour nitros like Sky High Sunday could’ve been mentioned with all the differences/alt paths in them
8:42 "this track is squeaky clean"
MADZ PREDICTED SQUEAKY CLEAN SPRINT! :O
11:07 i love how dramatic this sounded.
The nostalgia of Mario Kart is real! The Wii version being my first ever "Mario Game", I'm very biased.
4:48 Mads loses his eyeball for a split second
Love the vid, can we get a part 2 when the other tracks are out?
Also, love the items on the pedestals that represent the cups the tracks appear in!
thank you!! and yeah if the video does well enough i'll defo do another!
Now we need to wait another year, for you to make a part 2 to this video with the rest of the Booster Course Pass tracks 👀
I know what you mean with coconut mall it’s fun to see your miis driving, being on posters and being in the background cheering you on. It’s still fun in mario kart 8 but it feels so empty there now, at least the music still slaps
Ah, The Excessive Mii Maker user to Professional Artist Pipeline 😉
IT'S BROOOOKS! (he made biko)
@@fantasticbirdblue hehe thats me!
I need more of anything in Madz’ art style, it’s the best I’ve ever seen!
omg i love the little Macamo bike in the background
8:45 No way getmadz predicted squeaky clean sprint from wave 5 (real ‼️)
8:44 did you just predicted the new Tour nitro?
The remainder of rainbow roads in the spiny shell cup makes sense. The spiny shell is an evil item. It makes sense for them to make it the most evil cup.
evil but also the best
My god, the presentation on this video is amazing as always! This video is seriously awesome and I love how you're carefully analyzing each tracks. Awesome stuff ❤️
thank you so much and glad you liked it!!
@@GetMadz np!! i love your vids!
Not gonna lie, I used to play Shroom Ridge on MKDS in time trial and pretended I was rushing to order and deliver some Mcdonald's. (The patch on the side of the road with the no parking stripes was where I would pretend the McDonald's was)
sounds like it wasn't MKDS and McDS
I’m loving SNES Mario Circuit 3!
Some changes I liked in some of the tracks was they brought elements from Tour into the actual track, like the giant ramp on Kalamari Desert Lap 2 and racing Peach Gardens in reverse lap 3
Ive been playing MK since Wii so seeing how the older tracks compare to the newer versions is really cool
I would like it to be known that Shroom Ridge is MY favorite track. No for real. It's my favorite. I'm not joking.
Your ranking system here is simply fantastic.
"Moving onto the version on the Switch, it seems they have found the lake"
I felt that too man. Ever since playing Super Circuit with the expansion pack subscription, I was always wondering, where is the lake
8:44 i didnt know they made a track based off this in wave 5
Hey madz! I love your videos, you always pull of that cute art style and I love it
Bot
The background-artwork is so gorgeous!
9:00 fun fact: the big Waluigi in MK7’s Waluigi Pinball is a 2D sprite, not 3D.
I really love Rock Rock Mountain mainly cause of how adventurous it felt. Going up the mountain then into the forest onto an even BIGGER MOUNTAIN, that combined with the amazing music and I just love it.
Also the original Coconut Mall is a time capsule with all the goofy Miis I used to make
These vids are so well made.. good luck to you my man
When I heard about the sponsorship. my mind was absolutely blown. Because I have that product in my house right now!
i remember the namco and nintendo mario kart games i used to play at my chuck e cheese, i hope they bring some of those tracks back those were some of the most fun i remember

Thanks! Yeah I tried to do that but I ran out of time with the last few!!
Beautiful animation
2 madz videos only a couple days apart its a early Christmas miracle
Miis don't appear in the original Coconut Mall during Split screen. Also in the original Coconut Mall the Eascalators could start changing direction while you're standing at them if you go too fast at 150cc.
Also in the mood for mario kart right now.
Iv'e been re-100%'ing MK8 and it's been a lot of fun and a lot of pain.
Love this video and how you just mostly talk about the details of the maps
Also brown brick.
I feel like I was the only person hiped for Toad Circuit, since I have way to much nostalgia for it.
Would love to see a video covering the tour courses and the courses that release from wave 4 to 6
Really love your New Design with the Mario Kart Outfittt
Having never played any previous versions of Shroom Ridge, I took the homogenized direction of the traffic as, like... you know how when you're a kid you can approximately recreate the aesthetic of adult life in your head without the actual knowledge of why the elements of that aesthetic (i.e. traffic) are even in place to begin with? So you wouldn't realize why the cars in that other lane would even need to drive the opposite direction until you're older? I look at Mario Kart as (aside from an incredibly fun game and a great icebreaker) somewhat of a whimsical fantasy of driving that Nintendo is selling to kids. I first played Mario Kart 64 when I was like, 5, and that's kinda what it was to me. Adulthood was a million years away. I didn't know how the hell traffic control worked back then either. So I look at Shroom Ridge, and how all those cute little cars go the same way, and it makes me think all these warm, fuzzy, nostalgic thoughts about how myopically simple everything used to be.
Is that a stretch? Am I reading way too much into this? Oh, most definitely. But hey, what the hell? :P
I have so many memories on the of fall of the mushrooms in mushroom gorge over and over again. I am proud to say nothing has changed
7:07 Shroom Ridge is unironically my fav DS track
Yess please make the video with the tour courses!!
0:07 It also stands for Mario Kart Man
DS was my first Mario Kart, so it’s courses hold a special place in my heart, and what you said perfectly summarizes my feelings on the BC remakes (like, to a literal tee, it’s almost kinda scary).
I don't know if this detail is still kept in MK8D but the original Rock Rock Mountain is (from what I know) the only track in the series to have music that's timed to the race course which was the coolest thing about it in MK7, getting a good pace going on that track was made so satisfying when activating the glider synced up to that guitar sting and then the more intense part of the song playing as you're going up the hill right before the end. I can't think of another track in Mario Kart that does something like this with it's music so while I get Rock Rock Mountain seems forgettable on the surface it's actually one of my favorites from MK7 for this reason alone
You wrote a Wikipedia article
Mount Wario also has this
I think shy guy falls does the synced up music too
I think madz is taking "O-fence" to chocolate mountains change.
I lost my old MK wii save data after I thought my wii broke down, it collected so much dust that I couldn’t use it anymore, so I bought a new wii u, and all our miis, save data, and everything else, WIPED, my miis, dads guitar hero saves, our wii sports resort stats, in a blink of a eye, GONE, AND NOW WE HAVE TO DO EVERYTHING AGAIN EXPECT ITS BEEN SO LONG SINCE WII PLAYED IT THAT WE GOT WORSE, and my CHILDHOOD SAVE ON MY FIRST VIDEO GAME WAS GONE FOR GOOD, you got lucky lad.
Rock Rock Mountain and Maple Treeway are some of the most nostalgic tracks for me. It reminds me of when I used to be obsessed with playing MK7 on my 3ds when I was younger and that I would play it for hours at a time
7:08 it’s mine 🤚 (tied with Daisy circuit. I know, I know, I like unpopular and “forgettable” tracks, but I just love them idk)
However, I did like the DS one a bit more, it was a bit more challenging.
I hope you do this again for the remaining ones when they all release!

I’m now hoping that the blue shell cup is all rainbow roads as well that is a crazy but amazing idea
right?! it'd be so fun!!
Most of the problems I have with thr courses are likely there because of compromises Tour made.
Tour has 3 or 4 variants per course, so it can't keep a lot of random stuff in. Like Coconut Mall's "THANK YOU!" signs. Tour also obviously isn't on the same level as MK8's base traxk upgrades, but I imagine Coconut Mall would've looked STUNNING with a lot more detail and liveliness added to it.
Tour also has to try to alter courses to fit its gameplay loop better.... This means compromising GBA course layouts like Sunset Wilds, and most notably-- Sky Garden. The aesthetics are definitely a downgrade, but what's worse is how they botched the layout completely.
Surprised that Rock Rock Mountain's aesthetics weren't brought up. What was initially a super unique, dark gray, rough cliff with deep green grass... became a generic cliff with the same colored cliffs as pretty much every other track. It's super annoying because the aesthetic was part of why I loved Rock Rock Mountain.
And just so you know, Tour's version of Koopa Cape changed its colors as well. It has the generic cliffsides, light green grass, and even changes the gravelly road in the water section to a generic sandy road.
Tour tracks weren't brought up in this video, but obviously all of them are an upgrade in 8.... except for Sky High Sundae.
Surprisingly, the gameplay of Sky High Sundae is a lot more fun in Mario Kart Tour. It honestly doesn't really fit 8 that well at all.
8:43 He knew something we didn't
Fun fact waluigi on waluigi pinball is a cardboard cutout because they are referencing the fact that people thought that waluigi was 3D on the 3ds track but when people started to play around with the camera they found out that it was 2D sprite like a cardboard cutout
Look the video is great but I want to point out is that the karts are moving in the background.
Absolute legend.
Compare waves 4 to 6 when the final wave releases next week
8:43 SQUEAKY CLEAN SPRINT???
I feel like the Boo Lake remake fits the aesthetic of Broken Pier more… it’s a great remake no doubt, but it’s a shame that they used this idea for Boo Lake instead, and they didn’t even keep the cute boos (the namesake of this whole track)
Da king is back baby he neva miss
You should do this again for Waves 4-6
