  • This Old Loft is So cool. The Building Only has 3 Apartments, and this one is the Top Floor unit with windows everywhere. Its got a quirky old bathroom with strange tile from an other world, and a sink that might have a little elf living under neath it. This place is sweet and its in one of New York’s best neighborhoods!

      a. Assult
      b. Stabbings
      c. Shootings
      d. Rapes
      e. STD's from your corner bars
      f. AIDS
      g. Year round flues
      h. Covid 19 to 1OOO
      i. Monkey Pox
      j. Polio etc...
Now with that expensive apartment do not forget to have a good medical
coverage in the event you get hit up with an expensive medical bill to add
to your expensive rental bill. Take care and take care of your pockets as well.

How in the world do people afford to live in anything even moderately nice? I mean, NYC isnt worth losing so much money to a landlord like this. These are people with money who are living in these places. If you can find a good job you can afford to live in the the city. Not everything is this widely unaffordable. I am from Long island which is near queens and I can find cheaper and nicer places to live in queens. They also pay more in the city than along Island. I used to think everything was this ridiculously expensive until I looked into moving to queens.

Let say, someone who is earning $300000 a year, divided by 12 months. That mean monthly income $25000. So for that person, a $5000 is not even a 30 percent of the income.
I know, you will say who does earn this kind of money? Guess what, there are at least 40 (give or take) percent of the population in each country do earn this kind of money.
For me a rent that goes beyond $1000, is tooo high. If you can pay this amount, I guess buying a house or apartment might be a better option.

I’ve been scanning old family photos, and I found one sent to my great grandfather from his brother George in Yonkers in 1920. It was of the three-flat house that he owned. His family lived in the first floor unit, and they rented the other two floors for $75 each, according to George’s note on the back of the picture. I am guessing they were probably two- or three-bedroom units, just because George and his wife had four children and I couldn’t imagine them in a one-bedroom with that many kids.

In the old tenements (before housing reform) you could have families of 10 (or more) living in a single room thanks to stacked beds, and co-sleeping the children. (My grandmother was the first of 14 kids! (She out lived all of them except her youngest sister (all of their brothers died in WWII.))

I just looked up George’s 1920 census record, and the other two units had a married couple with no kids in one and a couple with a 3 year old and a mother-in-law in the other. So, I have no idea how big the units were! (The second couple’s ages were weird on that 1920 record, so I looked for their 1930 census record, and circumstances had definitely changed! They owned their own house, valued at $15,500, and had a maid.)

He was a Russian immigrant in the States since 1904 who was a salesman in 1920 but had worked his way up to manager at a haberdashery (I have always loved that word!) ten years later. The 1920 census taker had mistakenly written his and his wife’s ages as 80 instead of 30 (I think the 3 was badly written and he “fixed” it after forgetting who had spoken with), which confused me because the mother in law was in her 60s!
(I love browsing old censuses! I was looking for George’s sister Rose in a gold-mining town in Montana also in 1920, but even though I didn’t find her, I did discover a small Chinese immigrant community there. I think Rose was in the area because she married her third husband there in 1923.)

This apartment has an industrial type vibe. Love it! Hands down my favorie you have shown us so far! The tile work throughout, and the brick, WOW! The neighborhood has alot to offer, but dosen't seem to overly crazy busy! For the price you pay, you wouldn't need to join a gym, with all of the steps you would have your cardio done going to/coming home from work daily and if you had to carry your bikester....! Thnaks for all you do! Stay safe and stay cool!

As a park slope resident so funny to see these videos. This will rent fast anyway. I would just kill for a dishwasher and laundry and I live in a similar apartment but smaller. Also living on avenue with windows on both ends....the light is incredible. I see the moon rise and the sun set. I can't imagine schlepping kids up those stairs but maybe this is a good room mate situation.

It’s twice what I pay for my 41 acres with a creek, barn, sheds, shop, garage with studio apartment, and 4 bedrooms 2 bathroom 3000 sq ft historic house in Montana. I don’t have to deal with crowds of people and I have high speed fiber optic cable internet to order anything I can’t find locally. It’s only 1.5 hours to some major cities and I know people have a longer commute to work in some areas 5 days a week. Wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Get one roommate you each pay$2,500 a month, you each take two bedrooms! Which gives you a sleeping room and a home office/mini living room. OR you turn the smallest bedroom into a dining room for 6 and have a huge living room area for 6 people or more if you set up a buffet in the dining room and pull the dining chairs into the living room for extra seating and 10 or 12 can have a party. Or you have that one pizza place with free delivery sign bring a few boxes and you watch football from your wall mount tv with a bunch of friends! Lots of potential!!

Cash, can I please request that you do a quick "Who does what" abut how renting goes about happening. I mean I can't quite connect the dots what is happening. Owners pay agents to care for the rental situation and sorting care of the place or...? Please help me and others to straighten this out. (Nope, not American, Sweden here ya see...)

    • @villain1813
      @villain1813 Před rokem +1

Agents make money off the tenants that rent it. So they get 10-15% of the entire years rent. They’re pretty much a middle man that you can eliminate by researching yourself. The trick they tell you is that they have exclusive apartments, but thats usually a lie. You can get better apartments straight from the owners.
