Truth be told....Anyone residing on the top floor don't belong on the roof....but the greedy landlord figure he fancy the roof and get extra in rent. That building is over a business and the roof wasn't intended to be a deck. Landlords are trying to utilize every space of the building. Example: Storage closets are renting as apartments 🙄

Oh I don't know, where do I begin on this one? I could see Cash was struggling to make this appetizing when there was not one redeemable feature (I don't believe)...😉
It looks like that small room that is 6 ft across was turned into a walk in closet. Long bar and shelves. Would make a nice office or leave it as a closet. And STOP talking about putting a desk in the bedrooms! Once a bed, nightstands and dresser go into most of these bedrooms, that is it for space! Plus you should try to not work in the same space you sleep! xoxo PS For $5k a month, there had better be a dishwasher, stacked washer dryer combo and a helluva lot more security to the unit!
It’s an old school feature to have two hallway access doors in apartments; it was very common in railroad style apartments because guests would enter trough the one door for the living room and the other one for the kitchen(it was an “manners” thing about 80+ years ago). I honestly have never seen that in a box room apartment before (might be a sign of past renovations or something like that).
This is a fourth-floor walkup with 2.5 bedrooms that's getting a low-cost reno to make it livable. There's no dishwasher, microwave or sink sprayer, the roof deck is of minor usefulness, and there are no other amenities. Knock a thousand off the rent and maybe three college students will take it. I wouldn't.
For all of the icky features, the landlord has no business charging $5,000 for this place. It does have the huge roof deck, but how will they keep the other tenants off of it. No in-unit laundry, no elevator, no amenities. Meh! I’ll look elsewhere for $5,000 a month.
@@NormanF62 Walking a large load of laundry four flights down loose and then four flights of stairs up after being laundered and folded neatly, is not the most convenient. Carrying heavy groceries up four long flights of stairs is no joy either. I wouldn’t waste $5,000 a month on these experiences, especially as I grow older and have more issues with painful arthritis.
@@jgrafx So you adjust. Do laundry more often so that you don't have large loads. Don't fold your clothes until you're upstairs. The wrinkles will flatten out after being folded properly after awhile. And don't buy so many groceries at once. Buy foods that you can stretch into a few meals. Do like my nephew did and put your groceries into one of those large suitcases with wheels or a grocery cart. Should be a lot easier than carrying bags.
Goodness, Cash! You've shown us much nicer apartments in this rent range. This one is a walk-up unit, with no dishwasher, no sink sprayer, no microwave, you'd have to dash outside in inclement weather to do your laundry, and the commute into Manhattan could be 50 minutes or longer, depending on the destination. The place is decrepit. Even after the improvements have been made to it....well, let's just say you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. The landlord has a lot of chutzpah to charge this rent.
No dishwasher or washer/dryer sucks. I lived in a place for 25 years with no dishwasher or washer/dryer. Then, I bought a countertop dishwasher for $400 and it was life-changing. No need for a hookup, just 5L of water poured in the tank and a hose leading to a sink or a bucket. Also, taking laundry out to be washed and folded is probably one of the best deals in all of NYC. It costs less that the machines at a laundromat.
It needs more than a cleaning..floors are in terrible shape rad is disgusting. Unless these are new owners planning on doing some maintenence this place has been neglected for a long time. Beware!
yep, the place is so bad that it barely is worth 2k... did you see the bedrooms? Looks like it would be difficult to find the right place to put a bed in that bedroom.
Only 5k a month plus utilities, cable, plus climbing 15 stairs, plus no washer / dryer. Perfect. Currently paying under 2k for 2 bdrm, w/ washer dryer & elevator in Midwest. Thanks but....no thanks .
Don’t turn the water on too hard the kitchen sink is shallow! What you’re trying to palm off as a bedroom is a pantry, linen, Xmas tree, winter coat storage! Storage no other apt has and people would grovel for. Good place for a computer or comfy chair and floor lamp reading nook, wall mount tv get away room and vacuum cleaner storage. That is precious space! Use it wisely!!
I love that you shared the missing pet posters. Please can you do this for every block you do a home tour on? Would make such a massive difference to the owners and pets I'm sure!
I actually like this space. Just enough quirk to make it more interesting. Nice window and the views are good. But the roof top space would be a fantastic place for a huge vegie/plant garden. Good one!
Love this one. Fantastic neighborhood, and the deck. The only troubling thing was the 1/2 bed that opened into the stairwell. You'd need to get a really good lock for that. ♥
shove a bed in that corner and people are going to have a really hard time getting in... i agree though it would be a strange place to try to sleep and i can see why they're not really trying to sell it as a 3bdr even though it probably will be used as such. that person would definitely have to be paying less to accept that as a room or be a small child..... even with a granite top and a butt sprayer, the tub looked very gross so i don't know how clean one would get in there...
I used to enjoy seeing the apartments you were showing during the pandemic. The rents were reasonable and the apartments had potential. Now, bleh. And it's very, very expensive bleh to boot. That guy didn't even bother to fix up the apartment before bringing you to show it. I would not want that landlord.

The audacity for landlords to charge high rent, ask for references and you have to make 30x the amount for a crappy apartment with old amenities and most likely has rats and roaches 🤦🏾♂️
Love your vlogs Cash. I know a place right on the beach that looks like a mansion that costs 5k a month. Just one problem. It's in South Florida. We'll probably have a hurricane next week. The good news! There is an elevator!
@@theoriginalbridgetconnors If that's true (which I doubt) and you have a canoe, you're in business. This condo / mansion is on the 7th floor. All their predictions so far have not come true. You're more likely to get pushed in front of a speeding train on the subway. Crime is crazy in NYC.
2500 for your bedroom and you have a good kitchen and a standard bathroom. The pluses? Cool roof deck with a view of Manhattan and a laundromat to service your needs downstairs. $5000 for the whole thing is a stretch. Not Park Slope but its Brooklyn.
I just don't understand how anyone can afford to live there. Even this "lovely" apartment costs almost as much to rent per year as the median income in NYC ( I think it's around $68,000 per year). Add to that the very high cost of transportation ($2.75 per ride on the subway, or $5.50 per day if you commute) and everything else and I can't see how anyone making less than $150k per year can have even an average standard of living. Yes, it's nice to have the restaurants and such, but doubtful you could afford to eat at them. Most of these places have "kitchens" with no prep space, making it hard to cook if you had to. If things continue to go up in price, no one working a normal job will be able to live there and the cities will rapidly lose their services due to people fleeing in droves. I figured it out, and I would spend 5x as much to live there in similar conditions to what I have now (square footage, food, etc.) in the suburbs. Plus, I would likely spend a LOT more time commuting. Most people don't have jobs that require a commute to the city center, myself included. For those of us in that situation, the suburbs are a much more convenient option with a great work-life balance.
also, people with high income would be able to find much much better apartment. that place is worth max 2500 new york or not... anywhere else prob 1000-1400 max if that...
Could this building have been a single family townhouse when first built? The building next door appears to have an entryway that looks like the ones in more upscale New York. (I explore the NYC area on Google Earth)
im in carroll, and i clicked on this vid without thinking, this was a jumpscare for sure - carroll has gotten soo much more expensive over the years, and i can tell even with living with my family, ive been here for my whole life so seeing vids and prices like these really puts it into perspective on how ridiculous people have become over neighborhoods like these.
Like others, I’m very amused at calling the upper floor of a walk up building a penthouse. I could potentially see it worth the $5000 if the roof was effectively blocked off to other tenants.
I really like this apartment and the neighborhood. I would not put super dark curtains in the bedroom, but would probably just put sheers so I can bask in the natural light that comes in (depending on how hot it gets in the summer of course). I would take the half bedroom and make it into a storage area/office since all of the shelves are already there, why not make use of them.
@@ginger1549 The landlord made a mistake putting in those awful-looking shelves. I could be dangerous walking past in the dark. They call it half-a-bedroom --- it's one-fifth-a-bedroom.
Yeah but you have to sit with your clothes or they get stolen. I had a friend who lived in NYC and she took a bag of crossword puzzles and knitting for something to do while she waited for her clothes because they kept getting stolen right out of the machines when she left them alone.
All the doors should open out to create more space, if possible put a washer and dryer in the half bedroom along with extra storage but the roof deck makes this place but sucks no dishwasher
A Zombie cafe? That's _awesome!!!!_ As a horror movie fan, it's right up my alley!! This apartment is kinda screwy but different. It's small. But it's cozy charm quotient is off the charts!! All the wood, all the windows and a bathtub makes it almost perfect for me. And I can't believe I actually saw older people in NY lol! I would so love to live here but I'd have to be making the money to live by myself. I don't do roomies anymore. And the windows were clean too!! I loved this quirky little place!! Fourth floor walk up but laundry downstairs and has some of the better more interesting looking places to eat. Nice one, Cash. Of course 5 grand but didn't he say half price for paying Cash? Or was that a joke I didn't get? Lol.

Nice place, antique light fixtures, was built before pressed board was ever thought of. That hard wood floor needs to be refinished and will look amazing after.
I got very confused in this tour Cash regarding the layout. Why does the apartment have two entrances? What's with all the rails hanging from the ceiling? Will the shelving be removed so the outer door can open? No laundry or dishwasher which are expected these day. No lift and it's 4 floors up. However it's big, bright with a great roof terrace. Excellent neighbourhood. Price is OK considering some of the apartments that you've shown us recently. It will rent fast.
That yacht club if I am not mistaken which I am almost sure not.. used to be a used furniture place.. they had a lot of interesting furniture mixed in with antiques.. this was like 20 years ago. That being said Carroll Gardens always been expensive. Trains always sucked and the no parking anywhere for your car was beyond ridiculous.. so it was always a no for us haha but we get there real early on Sunday mornings and maybe get the last parking spot and walk around and eventually have breakfast :)
At 5k a month, I'll pass , too much wrong with the place to justify that price tag. No sink sprayer ( lol) no elevator, no dishwasher, no in unit laundry and did not see a neighborhood grocery store. That's a hard NO to the greedy landlord !
I love that only in NY the top floor of a walkup is called a penthouse. I moved to a third floor walkup. Does that count as a penthouse now? At least my 3 flights of stairs are only equivalent to at most 2 NY flights
I would use that odd room as storage &/or as a pantry. Like the roof top deck. Middle son's apartment was top floor, 2 flights of stairs, and his first dorm room was 3 flights of stairs (the building was one of the oldest on campus, built in the 1800's, and had an elevator but it didn't work most of the time). Not sure that I would like 4th floor 🤔 The neighborhood seems cool. Still think I prefer country living 😉

Like I said too many negatives caught my attention. 🤣🤣🤣I’ll give them credit bc they are “cleaning” the apartment but sheeeesh, Cash, this was pretty bad considering the price.
Hi Cash 👋. I like the corner windows for the view, but they are way too low to the floor. A simple slip or a violent fight, and there goes somebody/ bodies plummeting four stories to the ground😱. The "half bedroom" would be better utilized as a walk-in closet and office space. Four stories to climb up to get to the apartment isn't attractive to me. The roof deck is ok, but how often would it be used after summer? The kitchen and bathroom needs modern upgrades. No plans for an elevator installation 😄. I guessed $5K a month during the video intro and BINGO, I was correct! It will get rented. Thanks Cash. Thanks Ben. I enjoy when you guys collab 👍.
Don't think I've ever seen a half bedroom haha, so that's a first. Def not 3 people evenly if you do turn that half room into a "bedroom". You have to look at the rooftop as half the rent there haha. Great video as always!
I think the half could be office space for whoever is renting the bedrooms. Yeah, take your turn. Livable neighborhood but is there anything else? And if you’re working in Manhattan, Carroll Gardens is literally a world away.

I wouldn't.
I kinda wanna see how the apartment would be when it's cleaned up. And I would take the metal shelves off the half bedroom/office to get more space.
lol still not worth $5k
Thank God I purchased all my homes in Brooklyn in the 1980s when things were a lot cheaper now they are ripping these young kids off wow 💰💰🗽🗽💴💴
Gentrification and time have taken their toll on Brooklyn.
I cant tell if this video is meant to be a joke or just a really bleak look at how landlords are massively ripping off desperate people...
both
they are simply looking for people to scam with those prices
both.
There goes Ben again...Penthouse. Elevator next year..not holding my breath.
Would absolutely get rid of those shelves and get a twin bed with under-bed storage. Nice place. Love the old-school feel.
For all of the icky features, the landlord has no business charging $5,000 for this place. It does have the huge roof deck, but how will they keep the other tenants off of it. No in-unit laundry, no elevator, no amenities. Meh! I’ll look elsewhere for $5,000 a month.
The stair to the roof are in the unit not the hallway.
There’s the laundromat. Its not like its inconvenient which makes up for the lack of a laundry unit in the apartment. Walk there to get it done.
I wish he’d talk MORE about the application process …as I hear that’s one of the biggest issues with nye apartments
They want all your info and 40x the rent in Income, and a credit score over 750, and 3 cosigners, AND no pets whatsoever
@@Smart_Think Yup, and all to live in a shitty overpriced shoebox
Cash says, there's so much here that you can't find in newer building 🤣🤣 yeah like anything New! 🤣🤣 Way to look on the bright side Cash. You're great.
Haha, I love watching your videos man and seeing the prices people in NYC are willing to pay.
That would be a perfect starter apartment for a couple or friends. 5k though? Lordy, NYC.
Even after being cleaned that apartment still isn't worth 5k
Good one!
How are they justifying these rents it's ridculous
Welcome to NYC
Love this one. Fantastic neighborhood, and the deck. The only troubling thing was the 1/2 bed that opened into the stairwell. You'd need to get a really good lock for that. ♥
With that shelving right there tho the door can barely open. I don't know if Cash could even fit thru it lol
shove a bed in that corner and people are going to have a really hard time getting in... i agree though it would be a strange place to try to sleep and i can see why they're not really trying to sell it as a 3bdr even though it probably will be used as such. that person would definitely have to be paying less to accept that as a room or be a small child..... even with a granite top and a butt sprayer, the tub looked very gross so i don't know how clean one would get in there...
You know what is killing New York? GREED.
The banks... calling back loans
Cash, it's a dump! Total gut. Whom are we kidding? Still love you and your channel, but.....this place? Unacceptable.
Because these units go fast. People rent them before they're finished. No one waits in NY.
I love that it is not fixed up yet. Room to imagine.
I’d absolutely live there. Neighborhood looks perfect for commuting on my Onewheel.
Edit: $5000/month?? That’s more than my annual salary just for rent. Pass!
What's a Onewheel? Is that a unicycle? Props for using that for transportation! Perhaps you were in a circus or you could be in one.
@@jacksonmorganfroghin4815they're getting really popular now.
@@thecatatemyhomework what's getting popular now? Unicycles? I haven't seen any outside of a shrine circus. Is your real name Ed Knapp? He claimed to have ridden one across the country.

@@terryv Are they the ones where the foot rests fold up and have a handle? I saw a guy with one. It looked cool; the guy looked like a squeezy bottle feminine hygiene product.
Don't forget that the place on the beach will be underwater in a couple of years!
@@jacksonmorganfroghin4815 We still have a long way to catch up to Florida.
Always entertaining CJ…Nobody’s living in NYC’s cheapest apartment…why? Pat - I’d like to solve the puzzle: “Because it’s in NYC.”
2500 for your bedroom and you have a good kitchen and a standard bathroom. The pluses? Cool roof deck with a view of Manhattan and a laundromat to service your needs downstairs. $5000 for the whole thing is a stretch. Not Park Slope but its Brooklyn.
Carrol Gardens- awesome neighborhood. Court Street Grocers has the BEST egg breakfast sandwich in NYC 👍🏼
I think we can all agree this apartment is NOT worth $5000 a month. It’s probably worth $2,800….probably 😂
I would say $2500 apartment + $800 rooftop deck + $500 neighborhood convience = $3800 should be max
lol nothing in NYC is worth it.
@@vincentgoupil180 every neighborhood has crime.
im in carroll, and i clicked on this vid without thinking, this was a jumpscare for sure - carroll has gotten soo much more expensive over the years, and i can tell even with living with my family, ive been here for my whole life so seeing vids and prices like these really puts it into perspective on how ridiculous people have become over neighborhoods like these.
Music is great and your quirky sense of humour!
Like others, I’m very amused at calling the upper floor of a walk up building a penthouse. I could potentially see it worth the $5000 if the roof was effectively blocked off to other tenants.
Five thousand is a little steep for rent. That half bedroom was created. They didn’t think that out when designing.
My closet is bigger than that room , it would make a perfect closet.
@@ginger1549 The landlord made a mistake putting in those awful-looking shelves. I could be dangerous walking past in the dark. They call it half-a-bedroom --- it's one-fifth-a-bedroom.
One advantage of a laundromat is that you can get all your clothes done at once (providing you go during slower hours) it is doable though! 👍🙂
$5000 divided by 2.5 bedrooms = only $2000 per person…….right, Cash? Lol 😂
You do need a roommate to live in NY. No one could afford to live there on a single income.
The light in this apartment is amazing.
Lol.
South side Chicago 1990 $600 for something like this- me and 2 roommates split it- times sure have changed!!
I thought the south side of Chicago was the baddest part in town. And then you have to contend with Leroy Brown.
I know it was said as a joke but a purposely slightly angled clothing rack could be an ingenious idea to keep clothes compact.
Love the "old school vibe". That patterned wooden floor, you could plat hop scotch! LOL But what is with the one black framed window in the front? Looks like it your apartment has a black eye! Just needs a little TLC! I like it! Thanks for all you do Cash! Stay safe out there! Until next time...
I seriously watch this channel daily lol I have no idea why
Hey cash been busy lately i was catching up to your videos and doing a marathon now. you should try filipino food i think you gonna love it! 🙂
Nice place, antique light fixtures, was built before pressed board was ever thought of. That hard wood floor needs to be refinished and will look amazing after.
Ahh I see, Cash meant quality when he said this was NYC's "cheapest" apartment
Where I reside, a lot of people don't even make $5K a month. In NYC, you can rent a hotel room sized apartment for $5K a month.
This is not the cheapest because I pay $1300 a month and I have a one bedroom.
I have no intention of moving to NY, but I still enjoy these videos!
The way he pronounces croissant is so cute.
I love that only in NY the top floor of a walkup is called a penthouse.
I moved to a third floor walkup. Does that count as a penthouse now? At least my 3 flights of stairs are only equivalent to at most 2 NY flights
That definitely was a sarcastic remark about the penthouse. The same way that the agent said an elevator was going to be put in next year.
@@thecatatemyhomework No shxt Sherlock. That was sarcasm on my part too.🙄
@@thecatatemyhomework - Plus the remark about it used to cost $10K per month. No way.
Top floor of a walkup in any major city is called a penthouse. Im surprise some people dont know that.
@@terryv yes, yes i did.
That price is totally because of the roof and the neighborhood, without in unit laundry, that’s a four floor workout at least once a week.
That cable if it is for broadband should net someone a nice T1 connection.
Talk about your eBike. What it's like in NYC and range time to recharge etc.
Not sure that I would like 4th floor 🤔
The neighborhood seems cool. Still think I prefer country living 😉
I laughed too hard at the “tough of death …. Ages 3-5” comment lol

"Livin Just Enough For The City" (Stevie Wonder)
The room that looks like a closet should stay as a closet. It's great to have the top outdoor situation all to yourself. 2 people could live there for me half the rent and that's good. Love your videos. See ya
I paid too much attention to the features/lack of features. I could be wrong but I saw the bathroom didn’t have a GFI outlet.
In Ohio 5K a month would be a house payment (a nice house at that)!
In case no one else has mentioned it, the G train travels solely between Brooklyn and Queens 🤦🏽♂️
That bottom cleaner as you say is more hygienic than toilet paper once it’s clean of course
It has potential but everything must go including the AC and the radiator. Atleast the roof is decent
From nice Apt yesterday back to the shits….I would never move to NY sheeesh. That high ass rent for that old place. Ain’t no way
