An interesting thing to add is you hear people whispering in the audience, that must mean that homelander heard every single thing everyone was saying about him in the audience. But to us it just sounds like whispers
This speech shows honesty and also how bad reality can get. Also he admits that selfish and ungrateful people take things for granted and show no care for others. He also admits that doing the right thing means to also to go the wrong way about it
Homelander is a good examination of people who believe (or need to believe) that being strong or powerful makes you essentially a good person, makes you “better” than everyone. Because despite all his strength, Homelander has the emotional and intellectual capacity of a gerbil. And anyone who points this out is “persecuting him for his strength” because they won’t value what he needs them to value.
it's similar as to when netflix and other companies switch character's races and people get upset and complain, and they call you a "nazi" because you're supposed to always be cool with having the appearances of characters you like completely changed
Yeah, the point of this scene is that Homelander is delusional. His abilities don't make him an inherently better person, if anything having the abilities he has isolated him to the point where he has no self-control, a need for outside reassurance and a god-complex all at the same. Take away the parts of Homelander that were made in a lab and you'll find an out-of-control manchild. He's not a hero and he's definitely not better. He says that out loud because deep down he's not sure if it's true and he desperately wants to believe that it is
2:04 i actually thought this was just another Homelander blacking out for a few seconds and imagining. Like in Season 2 where he massacred an entire rally in his imagination. And then in season 3 when he said all this on stage I saw it wasn't just imagination, i loved it. Absolutely loved this scene.
I almost wonder if they played with the audiences foreknowledge of the Season 2 scene, to give this scene some of that effect. Someone else mentioned that in the final shot of this scene we see it from behind his shoulder, and the audience isn't visible, like he's yelling into the void.
To some extent not everything he's saying is inherently wrong. Is he smarter than then them, probably not, is he stronger, oh hell yes. Do they need him to save them...kind of,with his powers he can solve countless issues in secodns that would take people hours if not days to resolve. And yeah, he has been essentially controlled his whole life, hell the reason he's so unstable is precisely because Vought made him simply to be a product. Imagine being bred to do one thing, never having any free will, a real life and being under constant media scrutiny where even saying the wrong word results in you being hated by millions. No person could handle that kind of crap all their life, no matter how much they might think they could. Homelander is truly a product of his messed up life, and any character, Starlight, Maeve, Hughie, MM, Billy ALL OF THEM would've end up the exact same way as him. I truly pity the guy.
@alt alt Homelander has a savior complex and nobody needs him. If his head exploded the sun would still rise the next day the same way it does in our real world. There's a certain allegory in him saying "only I" can do this or that for you. It's been used by leaders today just as it was Pharaoh's and Emperors and religious figures and it's never true.
@alt alt Edgar said he can make a thousand like him anytime they want, they have super hero baby factories. Homelander is actually the least violent from the test babies made in the lab. If he was truly evil he would not need to be loved etc. So makes the character interesting and unpredictable. Vought are the evil ones including all the supes, they are part of the Vought conspiracy. The evil in the show is fame and what people would do to stay silent.

I'm thinking they're gonna do it similarly but with him and HL
@@OliverRedit does this happen in the show?

*superhero by metro bommin starts playing*
The acting...I gotta tell you, it was Perfect. PERFECT. Everything down to the last minute details
An interesting thing to add is you hear people whispering in the audience, that must mean that homelander heard every single thing everyone was saying about him in the audience. But to us it just sounds like whispers
Best season so far. Soldier Boy was such a good addition to the show. So dam funny
I mean...he's not wrong lmao

i was waiting for the “drinkin dope turned me to a superhero”💀💀
This speech shows honesty and also how bad reality can get.
Also he admits that selfish and ungrateful people take things for granted and show no care for others.
He also admits that doing the right thing means to also to go the wrong way about it
Man if someone just hugged him when he was younger everything would be fine
I can't stop rewatching this. This scene is addictive.
@@d.pedroii2940 Actually it is like that, but not in a way that is favorable to you lmao
Yeah he still can kill you in less than one second while you talk about his emotions. I think he is better than all of us.
@@elpiedra1596 so how does that make him better?

I don't make mistakes,
I am not like the rest of you,
I'm stronger,
I'm smarter,
I'm better,
I AM BETTER!

This actor just kills it everytime.
Anthony Starr is the real hero.
best scene yet

You sound like the guys who Stan him in the show 😂😂
@@boshirahmed no, needing to be loved makes you no less evil.
it's the brain that matters, though, the physical strength is secondary. homelander sucks at what matters.
That smirk is soooo creepy. Literally every single muscle in his face was acting. Good job Antony.
And immediately after this Future starts rapping, ‘Drinking dope turned me to a superhero, yeah’
Who here after that metro sample?
Thing is, everything he said is absolutely correct - except for him being “the real hero.”
He also isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.
And he claims he is being persecuted just because Stan Edger doesn’t kiss his ass all the time
@@poppopN he’s significantly smarter than the average American. Granted, that’s not saying much.
