Deep inside, The Joker just wanted to be loved. This movie was depressing and excellent in the same breath. Joaquin Phoenix is an awesome actor.

@@anmoldani6258 The whole point of the movie is that Arthur wasn't born a psychopath. He was mentally ill, but harmless. But when the world does nothing but hurt a man for as long as he can remember, how can he be expected to do anything but want to hurt it back? The movie brought a lot of parallels to Frankenstein for me. The Creature wasn't a threat until his environment convinced him that the only way he could assert any sort of control over his surroundings was to lash out and hurt others just like he had been hurt, much like Arthur himself.
Just for the record, the three Wayne employees he killed WERE awful pieces of shit. Murray may not have deserved a full on execution, but he wasn't a nice guy either. Joker's not wrong when he says people are awful, but that's partly because he had the misfortune of being surrounded by shitty people, Gary and Arthur's neighbor being the exceptions.

The leg bouncing when he kills Murray really sells this scene for me, believe it or not. Arthur just killed someone. On live TV. In front of people. He realizes this, and for a split second you can see him wonder what in the world he just did, and he gets nervous about it, hence the leg bouncing. But that goes away, and the leg bouncing doesn't express stress now, it expresses the adrenaline rush as Arthur becomes the Joker in that one scene.
Fallon would have probably laughed awkwardly after getting shot.

Thats because a figurative representation of a fictional situation to express real life commentary is powerful... but blowing someones brain out on tv is still a terrible thing. giving a mentally unstable and very hurt individual a gun is euqally as terrible. the guy from his job who gave him the pistol is just as responsible because he KNEW that arthur was ready to crack.
I love how the cameraman only abandons his post once he sees Joker coming his way. That's some dedication to the job.

He played this part like no other one of the best actors our time... that scene with Murray it's so true you never know what someone is going through or what they have endured throughout their life. Makes you think twice how we treat one another.
Poor Arthur. He lived a life of being bullied and ignored, he finally got a chance to be recognised and get people to sympathise with him, and everyone basically just told him to man up and get over it, including the person he looked up to and imagined having a great relationship with. This is one of the most tragic examples of the saying ‘never meet your heroes’.

Joaquin did a marvellous job and spot on potray a mental traumatic with sudden behavioural changes with subtlety it’s sublime. First we see him act humble and try to rub it off his shoulder but as the story progresses forward and he learns more about himself his mother we see him become more emotional , confident , conceited and ultimately unpredictable who just does stuff on a whim.

Everything about this scene was just perfect. The acting, the directing, the camera angles, the vibe, the way they used the tv camera to show the viewer’s perspective. What a film!
The irony is, that if Murray had taken him seriously, he might not have gotten killed. Murray disregarded Arthur so much that he didnt realize the obvious cue that he would be harmed by him. He dismissed Arthur just like the members of society Arthur complained about. His dismissiveness even to the point of making fun of his own guest, got him popped.

i just rewatched this movie after a while and i love the way arthur is presented, this movie is so beautiful and im soo excited for the sequel :p
i am just happy he will be loved by someone properly in the next movie because he genuinely seemed happy with the woman he lived next to and it broke me the most when it was found out none of that was real
The wife and i watched this at home and literally started it over immediately after and watched it again. ONLY TIME EVER. I rarely finish shows. Im not saying it's a timeless masterpiece, but what a ride.

The scorn on his face and the vileness dripping slowly from each word. "You're awful......". That's the scariest part of the movie. You realize he is now fully the Joker and any humanity he once had is now dead.

If I’m being honest, if they didn’t give that cameraman a bonus for still getting footage I can understand Joker’s reasoning for calling everyone awful

Exposition, explosion and spectacle aren't everything
It's just a reminder that when you look for the "awful" people in society, you're going to inevitably find those who are "not much better" and then you'll start going full vigilante on them too-perpetuating the cycle.

Fun fact, Joaquin Pheonix had no idea this was a film, and everyone within it was an actor, the director loved it so much he decided to keep it in.
This felt so real like it actually happened. Amazing actors

I'm not an anarchist at all, and was actually once law enforcement, but I can appreciate the sentiment of it. How can all the press be so silent on this brilliant movie that has made over a billion dollars?

I thought the same fucking thing, I do the same shit when I get pumped up on adrenaline so it was so fucking easy to notice him doing it. Joaquin’s acting is out of this world.

Juxtapose this with Arthur's earlier imagining in the film of Murray being nice to him, and it shows just how much having a bad day can change a person. I like to think that Arthur's imagination wasn't just a delusion, but a vision of how things could've gone had Arthur not been kicked around in life as he ended up being.
