    Tom really plays these Battle Royal rounds a lot like the no-moving-panning-zooming challenges, very minimalistic with the movement in particular, he rather searches for small details and win due to his immense knowledge while others probably move around and eventually find a flag or city sign. Just because the top guy is the closest, doesn't mean that you can use that distance measurement as a guide. If Player X is 200km away from the location, and Player Tom is 500 km away from Player X, Tom has 700km to play with in any direction from an unknown spot and an unknown player, but he only knows about the 500km part. Couple that with what's going through Tom's head as he makes guesses (landmarks, time, delay between guesses). There's no winning strategy to learn, everything's just a guide.

    There was a news article in a fire fighting magazine here in germany about this station you encountered in south Chile. It was titled "The last german fire station before Antarctica" and detailed how Chile always has been an immigrant country and how there is a large german community in Punta Arenas that realized after a big blaze in the local hotel that fire coverage was poor at best in Chile, so they got together and organized a "Freiwillige Feuerwehr" (voluntary fire brigade) with german standards in both training and equipment to service the town. Over time they evolved into a more professional service and currently employ 40 fire fighters - they keep the traditions going though (from german signs on every room, e.g. "Besprechungsraum" instead of conference room, to the german eagle in their crest), but they did adopt a second name that is more pronouncable for spanish naitve speakers: _bomba alemana_

    So appearently this town had a lot of immigrants from Europe because of a gold rush and sheep farming. One day there was a big fire at a hotel that was the home for a lot of German emigrants. After the fire they realized there wasn't enough fire protection, so they decided to start their own volunteer figher fighter company in 1901 and it has been there ever since! Mystery solved!

    Just for you to know. In the location of the buses in northern argentina, you could have deduced that because it said "La Veloz del Norte". You probably couldn't guess what "la veloz" means, but "del Norte" means from the North. And Uruguay it's not near as big, so they don't have much "north" and "south" stuff. If you doubt argentina or uruguay and you see a Bus, that's a clue.

    You can get 3 lives each turn
    1 for surviving the round

    1 for "correct area" for guessing within the correct country (used to be called "correct country")

    The gold and silver badges don't mean anything. You could lose every game, but if you play enough you'll eventually level up. It's more of an indicator of how much they've played, not how good they are.

      Bulgaria typically has fall and winter coverage and only a couple other countries (Czechia, the US sometimes, and I think Hungary on occasion) have that. I think the camera generation might also help there but Tom doesn't use those so it's a bit of a moot point. It's fairly easy to distinguish it from the others just from the vibe, so that would be how.

    Regarding Feuerwehr in Punta Arenas: Chilean fire companies were put by immigrants, so you usually see the german fire company, American fire company, British, Italian, Spanish, etc. Despite not being ran by immigrants anymore, they kept the association in name. You just ran accross a german one.

  • @linollieum3742
    @linollieum3742 Před 3 lety +1

    Getting the right country gives you an extra guess, so with the Chile one it was worth doing one more guess in Chile since you knew Chile was the right country and it was a free guess and would give you a chance of getting a close guess too which would give you an extra life in the end.
    15:16 I don't think they saw anything to do with Kumasi or had the round before, people just always guess the big cities. When they saw Ghana they probably just dropped a guess in Accra and Kumasi and assumed they'll have the whole country covered that way. And compared to world maps, I feel like the distance battle royale tends to give big cities more often.
