Honestly its just comedic gold when you think they've run out of ammo and then the camera pans to the entire wall full of guns. This movie truly had some incredible cinematography haha.

I think one of the best bits in the whole series is when Burt shouts “Jesus Chirs-“ and the radio goes dead, and everyone hangs their heads cause the graboids got another friend- and then the gunshots start echoing and they realize the Gummers are fighting back. Just a well done scene
That little smile Earl has when the shots start popping off. He had that "they got this" look.
Would have been more suspenseful if the Republicans lost the election.
They don't think the Gummers have a chance in hell. They're just listening to the gunfire echoing across the valley like dying screams. Up to this point in the movie no one has survived an encounter with a graboid. Once the monsters are done with the Gummers they're coming back down the valley to finish off the town. Only after Burt gets back on the radio do they realize fighting back is even an option.
Unfortunately, that part doesn't make sense. He wasn't holding the radio at that moment; he was holding a rifle. So when the monster burst in, he would have had to get on the radio, yell "Jesus Christ" and then get off the radio to start shooting.
Cinematic drama twist =/= editing
Another fun fact is that they would both be deaf in first volley of fire w/o hearing protection looong before the last big bore rifle shots
One of the greatest scenes in the history of cinema.
Could not agree more. I found myself on the edge of my seat, and laughing historically all at the same time.

God bless America 🇺🇸
I love that Reba's character isn't the damsel in distress. She right there in the fight, no hesitation, no panic, and saves Burt when he gets grabbed.
She’s also the voice of reason in a few scenes too- while Burt is still trying to figure out what’s going on but Heather can tell something is deeply wrong, and urging him to listen to Val
Plenty of female heroes in older cinematic, and kids today would complain about never had any.
Burt would never marry a damsel in distress type

What I really love about this scene is that they actually show the crazy survivalist couple as being the only ones equipped to actually deal with the Graboids. While everyone else is running and hiding on rooftops, these two actually take one head on and kill it. Nice twist to the usual trope of the survivalist getting iced early in the movie.
You should see that scene in the second movie where he ice a worm with 4 lb of c4 in a toy tank now that scene is gold 😄😄😄😄

Gotta love the camera work. At 1:36 they fall back, you think that's it for them... and then the wall of guns gets revealed.
Yeah that is pure comedic genius! These two obviously moved out here due to his obsession, & the fact that they've been bowling around with mere Breech loaders when the whole time they had assault rifles, semi-automatics, 12 gauge shotguns, a flare gun? wtf?! The Elephant Gun is in its own glass cabinet! Love the way he smashes open the torpedoes so the audience can see just how insanely big the 10' gauge is! It would have cause massive internal bleeding.

He was also on Law and Order SVU
He was a loyal Atlanta Hawks fan.
That moment of “God their gone,” then the distant gunfire, 😂 Burt gave his friends a semblance of hope. He wasn’t going out without a firefight.
I think we can all agree that there was a _LOT_ of effort put into this movie. I also love the creativity of the Graboid's design. Definitely an A+.
I like the variety of upmarket hunting rifles on display more than anything. They don't make them like that anymore...
It's interesting because it does come off as cheap B movie (e.g. 2:02 is clearly a green screen) and is quite abrupt in places, like the first and third Graboid being killed rather suddenly and anticlimatically, but it has some pretty good cinematography (e.g. the slow pan to the famous wall of weapons and the very brief comparison of cartridge size for his elephant gun at 2:36). Also, I suspect the "cheap B movie" feel was a deliberate choice as a throwback to similar movies from the 50s. So I agree, definitely an A+ for effort.
@WaterCrane other than that shot, this whole scene was an awesome combination of miniature and real time shots. They didn't even need that green screen shot imo.

Absolutely legendary film to a already underrated franchise.
This scene put a big smile on my face.
Just honestly one of the best creature movies ever
This movie really is a masterclass is cinematography and storytelling.
Burt’s “Jesus Christ!” Over the radio, the radio going silent, the characters hanging their heads, knowing Burt and Reba are probably doomed, then the echoing gunshots, and the characters pleasing their heads.
The slow pan away from Burt and Reba, to the gun wall.
There’s very little wasted time or space in this movie. Every scene, every frame, and camera pan is meaningful.
And the remake of that phrase in cold day in hell
Remember this fight being more one sided. But holy hell did that graboid eat up most of those bullets and still try and snap at the couple! A moment too long and it might’ve recovers and cobbled one of the gummers whole! Luckily they got more guns and ammo then a storms got clouds and rain!
The script for this movie was *flawless*. It's just fantastic.
We saw Reba in concert in the 90s. A few years after this movie. Cute as a button.
A classic without a doubt
I love this scene from them thinking thier dead to hearing what sounds like a massive ammo dump cooking off up the hill.
Obviously they didn't know if Burt and Heather would make it, but they knew that where giving the graboid hell one way or another!!😅
I love the tiny detail that make the graboids seem alive, once it gets hurt, after they blast one of the toungs off, it tries to retreat, by digging up, but it cant do to its size, and its to hard for it to back out so its trapped with the only way to go being forward into the danger. Rather than roar in anger and attack like most movie monsters it behaves like an animal it flees from danger.
That's such an excellent observation that they managed to capture very realistically as believable animal behaviour.
That is one beautiful sound hearing the gun shots clear across valley lol.
"Be advise there are two more..."
"Repeat, two more, mother-humpers."
I repeat two more, mother humpers.

This is how you kill a film monster with normal weapons.

Oh yes. As dated as this movie may seem. This is absolutely amazing and seeing their arsenal as well as all of those firearms they have in their rec room.
It’s amazingly awesome.
Burt’s character is so great and his wife is great too with her being with him in the gunfight

yeah I was thinking of every indoor range I ever was at in the army with double hearing protection, like I can only imagine the unfathomable noise of shooting all that in that tiny concrete room
The shot at 2:18 is masterful - with a swipe pan (actually two cut together) they connected the real actors (well, more likely a stand in for Michael Gross) to the miniature creature, as most reverse shots of the graboid (if not all of them) were filmed later by the Skotak brothers on a scaled-down set.

I love that this is one of the only good sounding distant gunfire examples I can think of in a movie.
I've absolutely loved the scene from the beginning! They really made me think that they were screwed but they were able to kill it themselves!
The filmmakers could have rated this movie R but I'm glad they rated this PG-13 instead! This became my first creature horror film and I'm glad about that.

I absolutely love the injection of this naked gun-style comedy in this scene, which completely subverts the cliches of this kind of movies (people getting their demise/sacrificing themselves). It’s a gem inside a gem of a movie!

This bit works so well because it's a powerful moment of catharsis after the entire movie thus far being people on the back foot. It's a triumph but also keeps the worms scary because it lays out plainly the amount of sheer direct damage it takes to put one down. Legendary movie.
This movie fills my heart with joy. 😊
Graboid: Takes a doomsday prepper’s entire arsenal to go down.
Quiet Place monster: Dies from one shotgun shell to the face.
I think we know who the superior sound hunter is.
Well in the Quiet Place Monsters' defense, based on what clips I've seen of them they are right spindly creatures, where as the Graboids are giant, they just have the sheer mass to tank that much fire power and still keep going... at least in the moment, who knows how that Graboid would have fared if it had retreated after the first salvo.
Key difference, the Graboid has thicker skin, helps them to survive burrowing underground. The fat also acts as a bullet sponge. But the caliber of an elephant gun has the power to punch through. Not to mention Burt's Grizzly in the second movie, meant for MAXIMUM penetration of the dirt, which stopped the elephant gun.
This made the movie for me - once the shot panned over to the wall where you see their 'collection,' just made the audience howl with laughter, and yeah Reba was simply awesome in this film.
This scene MADE the Tremors franchise.
