Beyond The Black Void - Watchbait

- Mike, Jay, and Rich Evans have returned again to the black void. Their reason today? To talk about a new huge summer blockbuster movie? No. Quite the opposite. They was gonna talk about Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning 2: Dead Reckoning 1, BUT they thought… how many times can one see Tom Cruise do stints? No, this day Mike, Jay, and Rich have returned to the black void to talk about “Watchbait” the movie version of “Clickbait”. Trash that has overrun a once great institution like Tubi. And before you ask, no we wasn’t compensated by Tubi to promote these films. We were just browsing about and saw a trend. A trend of using certain words or phrases in a title to get one to click on their junk film to watch it, only to realize after a few minutes they made the worst mistake of their lives. This particular video wasn’t a Half in the Bag. Nor was it a re:View. Nor was it a Best of the Worst. I guess it could have been a “Talks About” video, but nah. We made a new show called “Beyond the Black Void” and if you ever see one of these again, it’s just Mike, Jay and Rich Evens talking about something of interest. In solidarity with the WGA and SAG/AFTRA strike we decided to talk about movies that in no way whatsoever could have possibly been made under any conceivable union agreement. In fact, I’d be shocked if one of these pictures weren’t some kind of nudie snuff film. Maybe that’s why Jay “downloaded all of them on his dark web server” whatever that means. And yes, it’s 100% true, we did just spring this whole thing on Rich Evans. I rang him up on my landline to tell him to come to the studio. Well, actually I left a message on his answering machine. He showed up coming from the gym where’s he’s done many power squats and asked me “What we shootin’ Mike?” and I tell him to sit down and shut up you shit-for-brains. He sits down, but there is an immediate squish sound. It would appear that Rich had soiled his large diaper. He claimed he didn’t know. He insisted he ONLY wears a diaper when he does power squats at the gym. 1. it helps stifle the sound of any accidental fart release, but also for… you know what. An accidental Hershey squirt. This is apparently what happened. Luckily a very large toddler had died outside our building and I was able to provide Rich Evans with replacement clothing. A lot went into this video. So please, enjoy.

Ooooooh it's Shark-in-saw... like Arkansas... I just thought it was Shark/Kansas. I do know how to pronounce the two states. However, I often show up to these shoots liquored up and I'm partially blind because I once saw a demon.
It's an honest mistake anyone could've made.
My mom is from Wichita and would have pronounced it the same way. They're weird down there.

I love when they cut to Amityville in Space, it just looks like the old Half in the Bag episodes where the cut-out of the Plinkett House travels around the world.
Honestly it looks worse
I made Amityville Christmas Vacation! Actually posted in the subreddit that I won a Fangoria Chainsaw Award for "Best Amityville" so it's officially THE BEST.
I just saw how many Amityville movies there were and lost my mind that it became a "genre." When I realized there hasn't been a "Christmas" one yet I KNEW I had to be the first. So I made it a straight up Hallmark Romantic Comedy just to make sure the first Christmas Amityville wasn't some try hard horror film. Make it as a total parody to take the piss out of the genre.
But I made it in TWO DAYS with $300 whole dollars, $50 of which went towards replica Clark Griswold pajamas, because I originally just made it as a joke/gag. Then of course it gets me some of the most press I've ever gotten for ANY of my movies because that's how life works.
Edit: CZcams keeps not letting me reply but some of my other films include CarousHELL 1 and 2 (3 next month) and Shingles the Movie.

Speaking of "mystic toys," I recently learned that the Magic Eight Ball was actually based on a failed mysticism tool/toy. The guy invented it towards the end of the fad so it failed. He died but the guy who helped him bring it to market kept the design in an invention "morgue." Years later a company asked him for a fun promotional toy to give out, he saw the psychic tool sitting around and changed it to an eight ball. It did so well he started selling it.

I love Tubi. It reminds me of the early days of Netflix streaming, a Wild West of no budget garbage, conspiracy “documentaries”, and movies that are not as much art as they are evidence of a crime.
Recently they loaded up on the Italian giallo/horror category, a few of which are worth a watch for real.
Tubi and Peacock have my favorite obscure 80s anime. Peacock in particular has the first iteration of bubblegum crisis: bladerunner meets cop drama meets sailor moon the trifecta combination nobody wanted but works.
Tubi has angel cop, much much darker show but still very good adult animated show.

That was a genuinely funny joke. Kudos!
"Comfortably Dumb" as a response to "Shark Side of the Moon" shows incredible levels of cleverness at breakneck cognitive speed... (The song "Comfortably Numb" wasn't even on the Album _Dark Side of the Moon._ He had to make the Pink Floyd connection, then think of a song title, then figure out which one was a good rhyming insult to a rhyming movie title.) I cannot stop laughing at your title suggestion: "Texorcism".Dude...GENIIUS! I have always contended that the shortest pitch session in Hollywood history consisted of just one word; "Sharknado" which resulted in an immediate green light for the project! Well, "Texorcism" could rival that record! Both words consist of nine letters so it is a roll of the dice as to which would be fastest. ... Come on! "Texorcism" would absolutely be green-lit!
It would go down like this:
Producer to writer: "Ok kid, I will give you 3 minutes to pitch me an idea, then you get the hell outta my office."
Writer: "Thank you, but it won't take 3 minutes."
Producer: (perplexed) "Very well, 30 seconds then."
Writer: "Gratitude, but still entirely more time than I need."
Producer: "My, aren't we confident today! Ok then, begin!"
Writer: "Texorcism"
Producer: "We begin shooting NOW!"
This is a format that deserves to stick. Between Rich calling Shark Side of the Moon "comfortably dumb", the trailer that almost makes Exorcism at 60,000 Feet look unironically hilarious, and Jay's reaction to the title of Amityville Backpack, the material they get out of terrible modern film trends would make for some great future episodes.
I only noticed till near the very end that a lot of the amityville posters had a parody tag line of the first movie and I think that's awesome.
I want to watch exorcism at 60,000ft now because it looked like satire, or at the very least looked like it would be interesting garbage good for a laugh with friends. I mean, c'mon that kid was clearly played by a 30 y/o with piercings but was wearing a propeller hat? gorgeous
10:18 That's the most real laugh I've ever heard Jay do. Thank you Rich Evans. You've EnRICHed our lives again.
I always love when Mike pulls out a piece of paper and loudly crinkles it next to the mic.
Regarding the posters, a friend found a movie with some really cool post apocalyptic zombie poster artwork. It turned out that it was one guy from Southeast Asia (I forgot the actual country, sorry) who made these beautiful pieces of art, sold them as prints, and also offered them as stock artwork. And a lot of this company's cheapy public domain movie releases used his art.
A couple of budget DVD companies I used to buy stuff from also used stock artwork, only pasting the heads or bodies of the stars of the film on top.
I love that this video is "Mike and Jay learn some stuff to tell Rich for his reactions". This is my favourite game show
I'm pleased to see a couple of the films I wrote pop up in the list. Amityville Witches. Ironically the Amityville thing was an afterthought by the producers half way through writing the film. Then it was shot in a remote area in England and didn't look at all like it was Amityville and had absolutely nothing to do with amityville. I actually enjoyed this one. It's not remotely scary and sort of goofy but there's a certain charm to it and I love the cast.
The other was Ouija Hosts which was a faux, semi improvised ghosthunter show/mocku. That was shite. Again, the Ouija part was a total after thought. The original title was just Ghost Hosts (the name of the fictional 'show').
That's my second time on RLM now (Mega Lightning was featured on a Best of the Worst).
Where does the money come from for these films? I’m always curious how people finance these things.
Just curious how did you manage to land writing gigs for these kinds of movies? Were you recruited by some agency or the like to write them, or did you know the directors or something?
@@josephmayfield945 some of those are crowdfunded. A lot are financed by distributors who pay a production company to make the film and then they release it or sell it on to other territories. Really low budget. Amityville Witches probably cost $30k tops. Many of the companies make dozens of films a year at small profits, to make a bigger overall profit.
@@talleyman2744 it all started by applying for a job on a film website (Mandy). From then it's mostly been repeated gigs with the same producers, getting recommended by them to other producers. But, stuff like Amityville Witches were experience and gave me a track record of writing released films that helped me get the better gigs. I love stuff like this. Geezer teasers, Elsagate, Roger Corman, modern Disney. It's always so disgustingly fascinating when people try to churn out art on an assembly line.
i guess the difference here is that a wide majority of these movies are completely unrelated and are just bottom of the barrel ideas scraped together by many different people who just want to get like 200 entire dollars, as opposed to modern disney burning billions of dollars to maximize barrel bottom scraping efficiency. it's less of an assembly line and more of a race to the bottom in terms of effort
You are going to be dissatisfied with the future
This impulse is what currently scares me about AI. Could AI eventually replace creative writers? Hard for me to say with current information, and I'm skeptical of anyone who says they know for sure. Could AI replace the garbage writing of scam properties designed to trick people with their titles? Oh yeah, any day now if it isn't happening already. Cobbling together the finished product out of stock video, and promoting it via fake reviews and AI ad copy seem within reach soon too.
And each individual one of these things probably won't be convincing if you're paying any attention at all, but collectively they could bury the good faith production you're looking for or trying to promote.

The funny thing about the Ouija board is that it's original purpose was not to contact the dead or ghosts etc, it was to contact yourself, it was to ask your subconscious questions about your true self.
The idea was by have a group of people together you would push it around and ask innermost questions and get those answers, it was really a game about what your friends really thought about you.
Then of course it got taken over by the spiritual movements and people were like "hey lets use this table of letters to ask ghosts stuff" and the ghost scamming began.

I love these new "mike reads lists to rich" genre of videos
The movies might be crap, but the posters have a grunge goosebump charm to them. Someone should compile them in a book
I don't know if this gives me hope that anyone, (including me) can make a film, or if it depresses me that anyone (including me) can make a film.
Sturgeon's Law - 90% of all creative works are bad.
A lot of them are just frustrating because their names and premises sound like they could result in hilarious schlock if some effort was put into it. Instead it's always unfunny, painfully boring trash shot on a camcorder in a living room. Wasted potential.
I waited with bated breath for 27 minutes for the mention of Amityville Vibrator and I'm so not disappointed. Thank you RedLetterMedia for heightening attention to Amityville Vibrator
I love how new shows in RLM are born from last-minute videos they needed to create sometimes. Pure gold
An Irish Exorcism is when the demon just leaves unannounced.
Texorcism sounds like the perfect idea for a King Of The Hill horror project. Dale Gribble would obviously be the lead.
cue the iconic Hank Hill yell....
Damn it zombobby
@@KR-hg8be How many times have I told you to stop eating people's 🧠!?
@larrylaffer3246 I'm imagining hank hill armed with a comically oversized propane flamethrower he built out of bbqs and his Japanese brother in a anime robot suit fighting hoards of demons with the help of zombobby and the ghost of cotton hills knees.
Boomhauer is the first one to see it - you know those dang demons and stuff mane, they got Bobby cussin and yellin and stuff I tell ya hwat
You know shits about to get real when Mike reaches into his back pocket and you hear the paper crinkling
Check the description, it’s more than just the paper that’s crinkling
@@science_bearI think it all Depends.
This video truly demonstrates how a fast loud songs and quick cuts can make anything seem like a real movie
"the exorcism of god" is such a weird and interesting concept, im sure the movie lives up to my expectations
Rich's laugh rightly gets a lot of praise. But this was the first time I realized how much I love it when Rich makes Jay laugh! God this video is funny
Mike pronouncing SHARKANSAS [ shahrk-kuhn-saw ] as Shark-ansas made me smile. Especially how he convinces Rich that this is the correct title pronunciation.
Without reading the description of the movie, it could honestly be either.
I definitely read it as Sh-Arkansas, im confident this is the title.
His favorite pastime is gaslighting the elderly
How could a shark get to Kansas? It's landlocked.
@@tekkenespie Of course. It's a pun, and as you can see from the two different fonts, they are adding "SH" to "Arkansas" to create "Sharkansas", which means it obviously has nothing to do with Kansas.
"Sand Sharks" is actually something you guys should watch for Best of the Worst, it's such an obnoxiously self-aware Jaws-knockoff it's kind of amazing.
Also, isn't Parker Lewis the mayor, or the sheriff, or the main lifeguard? Priceless.
@@forallthestupidshit3550 I was going to mention, they could do another Parker Lewis CAN Lose joke, if they want.
I like how at no time has Mike ever felt the need to tell Rich what they’re filming until cameras are rolling
We always love a new RLM sub-series
Wonderful episode guys. Truly captivating, and you showed us just the right amount of footage for these movies.
We riffed on this bit at length in the old RLM Webzone now hosted on Tapatalk. When there were so many vampire movies coming out I jokingly suggested vampire snakes and somebody pointed out The Lair of the White Worm was an actual movie.
All I'm seeing is just even more proof that Tubi is just the best streaming service ever. Seriously, they're awesome. I love the sifting through a bargain bin feeling you get from using them. Videos like this wouldn't be possible without Tubi.
Commercials are increasing though. Getting harder to watch. If they would just offer a pay service. I would easily pay ten bucks a month to have access to all those old 80’s horror films they have.
@@josephmayfield945 that's totally fair. At the very least, they could time the ads better. My dad has been watching the Miami Vice show on there and he says the ads aren't even placed like they were when the show would've first aired. To give them credit, I do appreciate that they tell you how many ads you're going to see. It's nice, even if I'd prefer being told the duration of all the ads.
I have a really strong feeling that this is one of the ways criminals wash money these days.
Yeah, if you ever have $79.50 you need to launder, there you go. Make a Tubi movie.
@@PaperSeragliowell, yea, if you aren't clever about it.
Too much paper trail and too many people. Use the art market.
