Half in the Bag Episode 143: Demon House
Vložit
- čas přidán 18. 03. 2018
- Boooooo! Mike and Jay discuss Demon House, the paranormal documentary about a dumpy little house with 100 demons living in it, directed by Zak Bagans from the Ghost Adventures TV show or whatever.
- Zábava
"This is my other Star Trek." OHHHHHHHHHHHH NOOOO
Vimbert Vs I am a skeptic and don't buy into the ghost stuff, but I don't mind Mike's belief because he is at least 75% sure that this stuff is nonsense. This is a start. And I love his analyses on other films.
Yeah seeing people take this nonsense even remotely seriously is not a sign of rationality.
-he doesn't find paranormal interesting
your loss mate
Vimbert Vs yeah this was the most offensive thing I’ve ever heard.
A start of what? I'm pretty sure Mike is happy with his suspension of disbelief because he enjoys watching this shit. He's not going to "get more rational" nor should he. He's not running around screaming about ghosts or telling people not to get abortions because then there would be abortion ghosts.
The name of the last spirit Mike saw was Jack Daniels.
thatbunnyguy I'd buy that for a dollar.
Underrated comment.
Mike trying to justify his guilty pleasure to a sarcastic Jay is so endearing.
For mike? Really? you're an idiot
Brian DePalmaDeMajorca Mike is right about everything he thinks and says...EVERYTHING
Brian DePalmaDeMajorca homosexuality, IN THE HOOOUUSE!
Brian DePalmaDeMajorca Your mistake was respecting that hack fraud to begin with
DPofEternalnessity It’s because people who truly believe in ghosts or aliens are generally idiots. And guilty pleasure or not, Mike seems a little too serious about this stuff!
There is music and sometimes voices on my radio when I turn it on.
That's because ghosts can transmit themselves through electronic devices
But why do the ghosts insist on playing so much Bruno Mars? Undead bastards! Why do they torment the living?
Have you listened any "Michael Jackson" in that haunted radio? I heard it could touch your children, you know, that can be done through electronic devices.
Maybe the callers on talk radio are all in fact tortured apparitions! :o
(sounds about right)
@@chadalpha7983 I see dead people
The best thing about this is that Jay edited the episode, so he had to painstakingly go through Ghost Adventures footage.

666 likes GHOOOOOOST confirmed
My favorite episode of Ghost Adventures is the one where they lock themselves in a 'haunted' mine, including the air vents, and wonder why it's getting hard to breathe and maybe it's ghosts
Ooh! my favorite episode is when they are at the Viper Room in LA, and they show cut together footage of super drunk people falling off of bar stools, and Mr. Bagans is all like "aw shit, it's River Phoenix's ghost"
@@unk4140 This sounds so gloriously schlocky I'm shocked more people dont recomend it for comedy.
My favorite is when they go the Riviera in Las Vegas before it gets demolished, and at one point they have a dog with a Go-Pro strapped to it and have it go hunt ghosts. And the part that nearly killed me from laughing where Zak is getting really serious about suicide ghosts, with a silent fade to black with the Suicide Hotline information on screen, then it hard cuts to happy music with them trying to recruit people off the street for an investigation.
Remember the episode zak got "possessed"?
@@jjg7823 what?
Mike’s cynicism and sarcasm towards literally everything except trashy, obviously fake ghost shows will always be hilarious
How is it fake?
Lol we all have our thing. Mike's is ghosts, and i love how he says "ghosts."
There is some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it's worth fighting for. Lmao it is hilarious though.
RLM is probably the only channel where I'll sit through a review of a movie that I have absolutely no interest in ever seeing.
Exactly. This movie is a hard PASS, but hearing their perspective was entertaining enough.
I tell people I don't watch movies, I watch RLM reviews of them.
I would normally agree with you, until this review came a long. This... I draw the line with this...
This was kind of hard to sit through.
these are reviews?!!?
Everything about this episode - from Mike dragging Jay to a ghosthunting documentary in the first place, to Mike clumsily attempting (and failing) to reconcile his general leaning towards skepticism with his desire to believe in ghosts, to Mike nerding out about the details and history of his favorite ghosthunting show while Jay silently watches with a mixture of amusement and embarassment - is adorable. I love it.
Keep on believing, Mike.
It's a leap of faith
It's a hard balance to maintain. And it gets even more troublesome in a case like "demon house" because if you actually do even a modicum of research into this particular haunting you find out it was debunked in a number of ways 2 years before Zak made the Demon House documentary and later movie (which both draw heavily on the same exact material). you dig a little farther and you find out most of his expert witnesses aren't actual expert witnesses and his information doesn't come from the sources that he says they do. Such as the police chief/officer shown in the Demon House footage. it takes a level of willful ignorance and lack of a desire to dig beyond the crafted surface to even try to hold this one up.
It is funny. Mike puts out the energy of being the most sarcastic, skeptical guy on the planet. And then in regards to this hokey show, he’s nerding out, talking like a child about his favorite cartoon. Talking about all the people on the show, he knows all their names, like he is about Star Trek, lol.
not to mention the end of the episode with the totally improvised bit... It makes me belly laugh every time
Let Mike believe in ghosts!
I love the 5 minute disclaimer Mike defensively gives every time someone mentions how much he loves ghosts.

Jesus this comment got me good. Well done.
I think the entire purpose of this "documentary" was for Zak to explain the change in his persona from Tapout wearin', brewski slammin', ghost fightin' dude bro to glasses wearing, herbal tea sipping, ghost respecting documentary filmmaker. He realized he was getting dangerously close to 40 and couldn't keep pretending to be in his early 20s.
So to be more “40 year old like” he dons big fat black rimmed jewish billionaire director glasses and becomes a different kind of old person trying to stay twenty? Okay nevermind it makes perfect sense.

Seriously. If Zak Baggans' hair had a voice it would be Zak Baggans' voice.
So what you're saying is that this is one of those rare instances where the OVA is not only canon in general, but also important to Zack's character development in the Ghost Adventures lore. Good to know!

Hey Logicked, don't know who you are like the first replier, but you're so right. The beauty of HITB is that they don't always agree. You learn it when you have a friend like that.
What are you talking about, Mike's fascination with skosts is facinating.
Sabine M. I don’t blame Jay at all. People who believe in ghosts deserve ridicule. Jay kept this episode from getting too awkward.
mike knows the full name of every member of the ghost adventures crew. ohhhh nooooo mike nooo.
Ghost Adventures is really fun to watch.
Or as Rich Evans, everyone favorite type 13 diabetic would say “Demons...in the House”.
Imagine if Rich is in this video. Jay is being nice here despite the sarcasm. Rich would've relentlessly make fun of Mike.
A perfect role-switch!
Missed opportunity...
Funny that Jay says he wouldn't be a good narrator dude to his "Steve Buscemi" voice. I visited Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia and it was a recorded voice tour. The narrator/guide was Steve Buscemi. And the penitentiary is supposedly haunted. Coincidence? Yeah, probably.
Jay is a good friend for putting up with Mike's embarrassing bullshit.

You don't understand. We're talking about a smart-brick here. They have a special type of rocket aptly named the: "straightturbomania6669ab-6" that makes it travel in a straight line while thrown by a ghost. That's their only use, when their thrown by a ghost they travel in a straight line.

No actual scientist would waste a year looking at footage and listening to recordings of an empty house. They would start with the premise (that there is a mind separate from the body that persists after death), and never get past that part because there is literally no evidence for it. Then they'd get back to curing cancer and studying things that actually exist.

Mike needs to watch Grave Encounters from 2011. Ghost hunter-type crew locks themselves in a condemned mental hospital. The main character is totally a Zak Bagans spoof. I think Mike is the only person besides me who'd appreciate it.
z beeblebrox Actually one of my favorite found footage horror movies (by favorite I mean one of the only good ones) I think it's more effective than Paranormal Activity.
That is genuinely the most terrifying film I had ever watched. Right up until the "long mouth" ghost showed up. Once the spooks started I wasn't afraid anymore. But amazing execution on the first 40 minutes or so.
Grave Encounters is great! I can see Mike and Jay being annoyed by certain aspects, but the movie was a pleasant surprise of a good film. Never ever watch the sequel though. Never.
It's a shame they removed in from Netflix. It sounded like a cheesy movie but the way they handled it as a seperate foldable dimension was on point.
You're not alone
I am with Jay about Zak's voice. His dudebro way of speaking makes it sound like he should be travelling with Bill and Ted.

I've got monocular diplopia and need prisms in my glasses too. I thought it was just bad eyesight, but turns out it was a demon.
You just got haunted really *hard* in your eyesight. Demons tend to do that, you know.
Fuck hate when thats happen
I love when Mike is saying "A shadow moved away, and Zak Bagans tried to recreate it and he couldn't do it" as if they couldn't intentionally make it look like they weren't able to recreate it lol. I love that Mike is into Ghost shows because you'd think he would be the complete opposite.
I love that Mike keeps trying to force Jay to call it a documentary.
I love Ghost Bros. One episode had Zak trying to get a ghost to crush his head like "c'mon, is this the portal to hell, drop this thing on my head, demon ghost bro" and there was a single whisper on the EVP "killl zaaaak" and they flipped out. He wore foil shirts to some old mining town once and got distracted by a dog. Such a hilarious show.
The perfect time to bring up my all-time favorite ghost related quote from Mike:
"You can't mix cops and ghosts..."
- Mike Stoklasa (2014)
It’s honestly so funny to me when he’s making fun of the show but also loves it. I feel the same way. I love the show but Zak is such a meme.
“Aaron get in the bed with me man, and we can feel the vibrations together”
Classic episode, that
I feel so bad for all of Zak’s friends. Especially Aaron and Billy.
“Aaron, I’m going to lock you in this room where people supposedly get their butts touched by demons. But don’t worry, I’ll be right here to let you out in case anything happens.” *immediately leaves*
When Jay says "I'm interesting in the real-world parts of it" you can see the knife being twisted in Mike's guts exactly @22:22 . That's four 2s! 4 in Japanese is pronounced the same way as "death" which is clearly paranormal. Coincidence? Absolutely yes.

I'm from RI (where Ghost Hunters originated) and worked in a garage where these plumbers came in to have shelving installed in their vans. They were telling us how they had a major network interested in filming a show about their "ghost hunting" side job/adventures. After they left, the other two guys in the shop, along with myself, had a good and hearty laugh.
Fourteen years later they're still on the friggin' air.
When I die, I'm considering sitting around a random house for decades, waiting for some dudebro with a tape recorder to come in. Then I'll still do nothing for a few hours, say a single word on his radio, and rustle the curtains a little.
...on second thought, if I'm somehow still around as a spirit, I'll probably just hang around the ghost brothel
Slappin' them ghost titties?

Always use ghost protection
This is my issue as well. Dying only to realize your still here would utterly negate the need to stay where you died or lived. After all you now know anyone you love can never really die. Why the hell bother hanging around there. Personally I would leave the earth to see if we truly are alone in the universe. Then again I'm sure some moron ghost hunter would argue that even though the ghosts can hardly interact with our world they are still affected by gravity, gasses and liquids as we are. Essentially making it impossible for them to leave the earth. At which point I would throw a brick house on the motherfucker so he can share my confused existence.
The best haunting documentary is Paranormal Hunter Ghosts.

Unless I misunderstood, Mike seemed to be saying that a spirit box cycles through radio frequencies, and sometimes you hear voices. Surely the best explanation is just that it picked up a radio station?
NO! ITS GHOSTS! :p
Is that why I won free tickets to a Zeppelin tribute band when I dialled the number the ghost gave me?
I don't think he explained it that well... but if I remember right it speeds through thousands of channels withing a few seconds or something like that so mostly you'll just hear white noise... if a voice does come through it'll end up sounding like it came from the same station which isn't technically possible. I think
Ghost boxes are just radios that do not stop scanning when they find a station, so no - the EVP is not from any one station, but let's just call it what it really is - pareidolia. You listen to enough white noise, you're going to hear something that sounds like a human voice saying something, because that's how our brains are wired.
I swear, EVP is the most dubious and easily explained evidence presented for ghosts and it is beyond me why people put any stock in it.
I mean, mike did react with a little "ehhhh" after mentioning the concept of the spirit box, showing his skeptic side.
"He got haunted _so_ hard he needs glasses"
