I thought you might like a look at this very nice 1968 Ford Galaxie XL Fastback. This particular car is a Q-code model, meaning that it is powered by a 428 V8 topped with a 4 BBL carb. This car appears to have been repainted at some point, but other than that, it is nearly all original. I hope you find it interesting, thanks for taking a look!

I bought this Galaxie in October 2015. I Love it. Runs great after many hours of work. It is a real head turner here in Portland. I look forward to working on it this fall and winter, getting it ready for the shows next April. As represented it is all original and I plan on keeping it that way.

Beautiful car, but it isn’t a Galaxie. Beginning in 1967 these were simply XL models. I know this is an older post, but I hope you’re still enjoying the car.

Ooh, very nice XL! I love those big old Fords. In 1968, the bucket seats and console with floor shifter became an option on the XL's, so it's kinda rare to see it on this one. You couldn't get too much better than a 4 barrel 428!

    • @scottbrown7415

The console/ bucket seats became optional in mid year. There were other detail and equipment spec changes on the mid year "build split" Ford's because of the federal codes that were coming into effect. That and the uaw strike target shutdown in 68 of the factories all combined to make the 68 XL a confusing car to research today and a difficult car to buy back in the day.

Found a beautiful 68 convertible with the 428 original paint no rust dents only 42k miles. Beautiful interior had a new top about 20 years ago but the top is still nice. Car runs great dont smoke. Man has it now found it 24 years ago from the original owner who left it parked in his garage for 20 years. Its from out west so its nice. Guy who has it now has 3 other nice old cars just sitting in a nice barn and told me he never drives them dont care to mess with them no more. Told me i could have the 68 for 12k. But i think he would work with me some on the price he is not strapped for cash. I do not have cash to buy it tho im disabled with lupus and heart problems. But want it so bad to be able to drive enjoy with my wife and kids do car shows together. He told me he would give me time to try sell my truck thats my every day driver so i can try buy things to flip so i can buy it. Not sure i ever will be able to do it tho. Im 42 now been disabled since i was 24 so lots of my dreams are out the window. But Gods good im still alive and got my wife and kids and a roof over my head. Just hope and Pray God will help me be able to get the car. Even tho im very happy to be alive and have my family a roof over are heads and food. Im still human and year after year see others have nice cars makes me wish i had one. I also got mixed connective tissue disease lot health problems and just want something nice to enjoy before God calls me home. I no material things are not everything but is nice to have one dream come true. Like to have something nice to leave my family for when im gone. Sorry i texted so much anyways what do you think about the price on the car i found? Wish i could find a place or person who is in a spot they could and would help my dream come true. First car i ever found on my own i wanted at 14 was a 65 galaxie hardtop a woman had it behind her house i seen it when riding my bike stoped and asked her about it. She told me 500 $ for it. But i come from a broken home poor and my dad drank each day. So no help there. I started to mow yards try to save enough but she sold it before i got cash. My first car was a 84 cuttlas i sold and got a very solid 81 camaro t top v.6 car with 63k miles was gray with red strips and red leather. I had it a few years and was forced to sell it had a child on the way and no family car or winter car. Since then it was so hard and then at 24 i become disabled. Every day is a fight for me got good days and bad days but again by Gods good grace im still here Lord willing for more years to come. But they are doing lots of test on me now try find out whats going on with me. I also got a anurism in my aorta thats so scary. Long story short first car i ever found wanted was a galaxie. My dream car is a 77-78 trans am black and gold t top car. With black crush velvet interior and automatic. Id love a 4 speed but my body could not handle the clutch no more. Just loved the looks of them so beautiful. Or a 70 buick gtx i think is what you call it with the 455 h.o black and gold pin strips. Or a 70 chevelle 454 blue with white strips. I love the 71 and 72 s also. Really love a lot 69 camaro yenko would be big dream car but any 69 camaro s.s would be so nice!! Love a blue one with white strips or black on white. Love 68-72 nova ss cars to. Again blue with white strips. Most modern cars would be a buick grand national or a 80.s olds 442 t top car they are nice also. Wish i could find a person who could and willing help me dream come true. But everything is The Good Lords will. If not i will just be happy to be alive. Sorry again so long also if spelling is awful. After time the lupus can mess with you on things like writing. Please let me no on the 68 i found.

Ricky Buchanan That was because of the highway flyer gears, not the weight. These were no heavier (and most times, lighter),than a modern large SUV, which will suck the doors right off this car.
As far as looks and class, though, the 60s stuff wins hands down.
