If you're looking for some vintage metal that's stylish, powerful and has a lot of history, who says you have to buy a cramped, high maintenance muscle car? This awesome Galaxie 500 will look just as cool rolling down the road, turn just as many heads at the local drive in and, thanks to a thorough shakedown by our RK Motors Charlotte service department, is ready to provide you with miles of carefree cruising!
Assembled at Ford's Chicago, Illinois manufacturing facility in May of 1970, this pristine Ford Galaxie 500 survivor was originally shipped to Paul Heuring Motors in Hobart, Indiana and sold to Ray Eggers of nearby Valparaiso, Indiana. Since that sunny summer day 42 years ago, it has led a pampered three owner life that, judging by its mostly original Green Metallic paint, was free of exposure to inclement weather, significant wet road driving and long-term outside storage. Today, the car is in overall outstanding condition displaying a glossy finish that is characterized by an excellent shine; and factory accurate panel alignment which creates surprisingly narrow gaps and solid closing doors.
Providing the motivation for this all-business blue oval bruiser is a 390 cubic inch, numbers matching Ford FE 2-valve big block which, by 1970, pushed out 265 horsepower a whopping 390 ft./lb. of torque! Cast on May (E) 6th (6) of 1970 (0), and designed to go head to head with Chevrolet's less powerful 409, the 390 in this Galaxie's engine bay is factory fresh, highly original, and exceptionally clean. In fact, the only non-original pieces are a new Edelbrock aluminum intake, a new 4-barrel Edelbrock Performer carburetor and a nice set of blue MSD Heli-core plug wires. And if you're the kind of purist that demands all the right parts in all the right places, the car's original cast iron intake and 2-barrel carburetor ARE included with the sale.
This well optioned Galaxie 500 is still equipped with its original PGA-A4 tagged Select-Shift Cruise-O-Matic which means you can either let its smooth C6 take you down the road on its own or, if you're feeling spirited, row yourself through the gears via a built in manual mode. Its undercarriage, like its engine bay, is clean, honest and certainly not to the point where anyone should be afraid to put this car either on the road or on a lift. The computer tuned boxed frame rolls a sturdy three link rear suspension, which is complete with freshened air shocks, aft of a good looking double A-arm front suspension which has been fitted with new shocks, new tie rod ends, new bushings and new ball joints courtesy of our first rate RK Motors Charlotte Service facility. Finishing this fully sorted undercarriage of is a set of fresh 235/70/15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As which spin classic Ford turbine hub caps that are complete with upscale maroon centers.
Take a look inside this Galaxie 500 and you'll find a plush and roomy interior which is as luxury oriented as any mainline automaker could manage in 1970. That means high quality knitted vinyl seats, thick loop pile nylon carpets, new-for-1970 Uni-lock seatbelts, and even a remote left hand mirror. The original front and rear bench seats are in excellent, unblemished condition showing little to no wear at all; and feature enough leg and elbow room to parade around you and your extended family. At the sides of those seats, padded door panels hang fade-free wood applique above large armrests that are complete with chrome handles, and chrome window cranks which roll all four side windows down to create a true pillarless hard top. And in front of the driver, Ford's 'swept-away' dash, which centers all the car's instrumentation in a console-like, wood trimmed binnacle to provide maximum room for front passengers, displays no cracks or fading; and holds an original Philco AM radio above controls for the car's heat and air conditioning system, an original two-spoke steering wheel and a chrome transmission shifter.
This cool Galaxie 500 survivor is a stylish, comfortable, and reliable piece that will still command a lot of respect on the highway or at the local car show! Call, click or visit RKMotorsCharlot... for more information on this awesome car!

I'm amazed the dash pad is not cracked. I owned a '69 Galaxie, a '70 Custom, and a '70 Ltd, all of them had the dash crack. I loved those cars. The dashboard always reminded me of a cockpit.

I prepped many of these cars back in 69 and 70 when I worked at a Ford dealer as a young whippersnapper boils were fun days all the hot cars that came in the lot got to move around wash them up prepping making them shine like a new penny

My auntie Joanne ( who was a real class act) had a 69' ( one of my favorite yrs for Ford) It was dark metallic blue with white vinyl top and interior. It might of had a small block 302 ? I'm pretty sure it wasn't a Windsor 351....

The 390-4v (four barrel carb) is actually rare in these. The turbine wheel covers were optional on all full size Ford's starting in 1968. The LTD dash pad is not original. This is a very nice Ford.

Hey buddy, long time subscriber, but I rarely comment here.
But on this particular question, I would have to say hands down, I’d go with the 390. Back in the 1970’s and into the 80’s, being a “Ford Fanatic” in those days of my youth( while approx 18 to 30 years old) I owned numerous Fords and Mercury’s that used all these motors. So I was very familiar with all of them.
That being said, I always liked the big blocks, especially the 429 which I had many of back in the day. But I also had numerous Cleveland and Windsor 351’s in numerous types of vehicles.
I’ll admit, one of my favorites I really loved, was my 1970 Ford Galaxy ‘Sportsroof’ with a 351 Windsor and 3 speed manual shift on the column. Original Ford brown with black vinyl top. 😊 But that Galaxy was all original with low mileage, and that was the original engine so I would never have changed it. After all, it was only 7 or 8 years old when I bought it!
But I had numerous big blocks in 2 Torinos I had and also my 73 Mustang Fastback. One 390, and 2 429’s. The 390 was in my 71 Torino fastback, and I had a 429 in my Mustang fastback. (It took a lot of wheel well cutting to get it in if I remember right!!).
So there you have it. A liver a big blocks, but one of my favorite cars had a Windsor, and 3 speed manual on the column. I think it boils down to doing what you prefer. Fact is, their both great engines, and both will push that Mustang along very well. I wouldn’t worry about the “handling” aspect. I don’t suppose you’re going to be racing it on a track, so the handling isn’t really a priority. And you can beef up the front end a bit to compensate, lots available these days to do that.
That’s just my 2 cents on it.
Good luck, I’ll be silently following along!!

I know a Ford mechanic who owns a car like it. His car is white with a blue interior and vinyl top, also has the bucket seat option AM/FM stereo radio, power windows, power door locks, electric rear window defroster, 351 Windsor engine, traction lock differential, air conditioning.
Car is from Vancouver, British Columbia Canada and was sold by Brown Brothers Ford in Vancouver. Car was an Oakville, Ontario car built in November of 1969. Brown Brothers Ford in Vancouver Canada sold the car in April of 1970.

I grew up with a fleet of these green four doors. Yavapai County Sheriffs had green .shotgun and radio. Lots of us carried Johnson CB ling range walkie talkies . But that was it. I've crouched behind that door expecting full firefights with escaped killers . In winter it was studded snowtires and we told folks Spruce Lookout to Bumblebee is not a good idea. I did it in February. Cliffs that angle right into oblivion and it was like a bobcat on yer back . It wouldn't let go... and I got pretty good at running detective Marts car down to Wolf Creek and the hi dive pool. Not an easy trick. I moved out to Walker and it was quite a winter . 3 doors up was Anton Levay...soon the headless.corpses.started appearing everywhere .. 89 one was decapitated 100 meters from my picnic in thimb Butte park. I thought I had Danny Lee Eckart cornered friday afternoon in from groom creek. Dutch Sturdevant and I were checking cabins and found his cigarette and a broken window end of shift. I was right behind a 1970 Ford galaxy. 12 gauge ready. Found him next day in chino valley . Shootout ...I was playing cards with DPS officer Marstons wife and Councilman Patrick's wife and the patrolman wife next door flew in the door ..had him cornered ..and he got Paul..hes dead. So I called Dutch. He was in the middle of a tv game nothing we can do ...just comfort the ladies ....So dirty harry came out and he had a blue one. And I'm 6'8". Clint Eastwood is 6'6". He could slide in and out of that car so slick fast and easy on the set in front of phx pd..I couldn't stand it any more I bought a green one with the vinyl interior black...put the 102 inch whip.on it and a shotgun rack and then I got the big magnum pistol.. only a 357 . just a way overpowered round for police work. My first rounds were always 38 wadcutters..I never miss. I'm a trick shot . I dont.even think about it. Just blow holes in little tiny flying objects at great distances regularly. The last rounds may well be magnums. Cuz if the first ones didnt get ya ..well god help you.
. So I got an invite to the big ORO ranch and I had a Ed's green detective car. Inside is the #1 akc CDX german shepherd with an LA detective 7 years. I had cowboyed this ranch summers and as I blew out the eye of an escaping quail with yavapai 43s snubnose... after he missed both barrels. Well this was now diplomatic property and I come from a high masonic family and I guess it was all a prayer come true for the general manager his cook just threw out a pan of water that morning and hit a cougar. The gun case was next to the $100k Chiplendale clawfoot table. And the queens piano in the Grand Canyon room. As Kissinger and Chase were finishing the China deal I was playing chess with Richard and expecting Henry any moment. My 1970 ford custom 500 took me a lot of outrageous places. First time I saw the pacific ocean was in that car. It took me to the trail to Mt Elbert in Colorado highest central point in the US. To rainy Oregon I found I could stretch out full length my feet in the vent and my head up against the seat belt holder I could stretch out as big as I am on that bench seat and I never forgot it. Today I would have to customize that rear two door and ad an extra little door and put my wheelchair in it.. I thought how cool to have the sport version and then I saw you start it up and I remembered the warm up. Summers I'd disconnect the choke. The 302 2v. was perfect. I went to mom to co sign for the dodge mechanics AAR cuda for $3400.. 600 hp. Oh no she wouldn't do it...and I'm still alive today. I did hold up a police chase one night I was in the lead and the starter kept snapping and when it started the guy was gone in a cloud of dust...no one appreciated that...

It has a 390 4V V8 which actually delivered 315 horsepower. It was well optioned with the vinyl roof, luxury wheel covers and front and rear bumper guards. The luxury spokes wheel covers were usually ordered on the LTD series. Original MRSP as equipped was probably around $4400.

Larry Hawkins The 1970 Galaxies were not available with the 390 4V. It was only available with the 2V so the narrator was correct on the horsepower but the breather lid had the wrong decal.

My Dad bought one new in October of 1970, 4-door sedan in nugget gold metallic. He sold it to me as my first (on the road) car in June 1977. Ran it until December 1980 when the frame rotted through. I did resurrect it for a couple years in the mid-80s after a local welding shop fixed the frame. Regarding this particular car, the wheel covers (or wheels) are not original, this car did not come with a hood ornament, obviously the nameplate on the dash pad (LTD) is wrong, and the panel between the tail lights was body colored, not red or reflective. I suppose the bumper guards could be original but I doubt it. I never saw one of these cars with them. (I like 'em 100% original, just my thing.) Nice ride though, thanks for the memories.

It was said the 4bbl was aftermarket, and original 2bbl included. However, the LTD emblem on the dash, and the hood ornament are both a bit suspicious - I ~think~ the LTD was ONLY available with formal roof and hideaway headlights, and a Galaxie wouldn't have the LTD badge on the dash...

I had just gotten detective marts car and was actually resting at home when Karen Myrehn rushed in and said didnt you hear the call. No I was sleeping. Well an old man in her hiking group was lost in Walker Az up in the Bradshaws. It was her Lutheran Church group. And I knew the old guy wouldn't appreciate the night in the woods so we rushed to the Lynx Lake grocery and there was the whole night shift around the dam woodstove... well I'm going out I got an idea. I said take me up to the closest point on the side of the road where you left the hiway. So we got that position down so I just drove up and down the road with a car full off hollering Lutherans blowing the horn. Sure enough about the third pass there was the old man walking down the road and he heard all the racket and followed the noise just like I predicted and I took him back to the fire and warm drinks and told the fellows to go back to work somewhere.
