When I was 16 there was a 64 Galaxie convertible at the Shell station where I worked and it was for sale for $40 (the new $1,000). It had a 390 and I think the problem was the power steering was leaking. My Dad Would NOT let me buy it!! I had the money but noooOoo I wasn't allowed. I always liked that model out of all the early big Fords. Nice to see yours with a beefy motor!!!
Our family back in the sixties had a '64 Galaxie 500, solid black 4 dr., gray interior, 390, fully optioned hardtop. Our family took a trip with it from La. to Calif. and back in the summer of '64. It was soooooo pretty. I wish someone had made a home video of it back in the day. With the 390, it drank gas like crazy, but who was concerned - especially not my dad - when he had performance in a "family" car and gas was thirty something cents per gallon!
I was 14 when these were new, I always loved the 500 XL. My Dad bought a light blue 9 passenger wagon with the 352 V8 , automatic and AM radio new in 1964 because I was the oldest of 6 kids. He drove us to Anchorage, Alaska in it because he was in the USAF and he was transferred. 😊
Nice car! The Ford 428 didn't come out until 1968. Older brother had a built one in a 1968 Mach 1. One of the fastest Fords I have ever been in. Your car was apparently put together to go fast. Thumb up for sharing. 😎
Stellar styling., inside, outside, Ford could have frozen styling with this year. Love the tops of the back seats and all that chrome and lighting for the passengers. DAMN! The fact that it's got a lot of power under the hood, and the iconic hood scoop, well that's just the gravy!
I purchased a 65 Galaxie 500 LTD full rotisserie restoration. Factory 352 auto. AC. 66k original miles. Love the Galaxies. My 1st car in high school was 68 Galaxie. Just retired and going to enjoy it. It's not going to just sit in a garage. Love your 64
I was a senior in high school in 1964 and had a classmate who drove a '64 Galaxy 500. He let me drive the car one day and damn, It had some amazing acceleration.
When I was 6 years old my father bought a 1964 Galaxie z code ( 300 hp 390 ) with a 4 speed. Back then they had a dealer accessory to install a two 4 bbl setup. He had that installed. Car ran very well.
Thanks for sharing. That car sounds bad ass! I'd love to have a car like that. The only con to the car is the cream color which I know is the original paint job for the year. However, it would look better in candy apple red or a blue metalic color.

Nice car. My buddy had one and we passed everything but a gas station with that car . Loads of fun to drive
64 Galaxie was my first car , got it free from my aunt and uncle at 14 with a blown head gasket in the 289, my mom drove it until I was old enough 💯
Never been a Ford guy but I like this car.
