I agree. I can’t read books anymore due to a health condition and I refuse to give Jeff Bezos ANY of my money so I don’t have audio books & I’m not sure I’d retain the information as well because a big part of my health condition is called “brain fog “ so this is the wonderful compromise for me.

    Hello Cheere. I’m
one of your ‘silent’ subscribers, but wow. What a privilege to hear what you shared. I listen to you as a an old time Literature graduate, teacher and now therapist. I LOVE how funny you are with your reviews / analysis of books - as well as philosophical and spiritual. I too became very emotional hearing you express all that love and missing of your mum. She flows through you, and from you, to us. x

Beautifully said. May I add that her accents have cracked me up on many an occasion. Her Southern drawl had me constantly giggling . It’s still a fairly foreign but charming accent to this Aussie. I thought it came naturally because before this I was under the impression that Cheere - what a heart wrenchingly beautiful story- was raised in the south since birth but had left early and lost most of it.
BUT when she started her Diana accent she had me in hysterics. 👍🇦🇺

I appreciate your honesty and how much you loved your mom. I lost my mom to cancer too and it still left quite a big hole, and recently I lost my grandma who I was very close too caused she raised me when my mom had to work. I can also relate to you about God and Christianity to a certain extent. I believe in God, I know He loves me with all my imperfection. I used to go to church and involved in many of the activities, but since I moved to North America, I stopped and became dissolution over the insincere preaches. I decided to follow my own moral compass in determining what's right and wrong, and what God want us to do. I lost my ways several times, and until now I am still working my way back to Him. Thank you for sharing ❤

I have absolutely adored you from the start! Not religious, but I respect you and your values completely. Your Spare and Revenge reviews helped me spend hours at my mom's bedside when she had a very serious operation and complicated recovery. I ended up caring for her for 3 months and you gave me something to look forward to and to giggle about through that time. She is now a huge, huge fan as well and we enjoyed the Traitor King series together when we went on holiday together 😊 Cheere Denise, you are a gift that keeps on giving❤ Love you, thank you!!!

Your description of events in your life kindle memories and longing for your mom reminded me of how my father's death when I was 15 affected me. He never knew my husband and my husband has often said he wished he could have known my dad. My husband's parents would have really liked him, and he would have been crazy about my kids. He was a geologist and I taught geology (and history). I am 76 now and I have tears in my eyes as I write this. Be sure to tell your kids all about your mom and how special she was. You could write a memoir yourself. You’ve had such an interesting and eventful life and incredibly honest. Even your name is unique, very special. I married a German and went through the same thing as you, alone with two small kids in a village in Germany and my husband at work all the time. It was incredibly isolating because I didn’t speak as much German then and had no family support whatsoever. Now my kids are 25,22 and 16. How time flies.

Oh sweet girl, what a beautiful life story. Your mother sounds like such a lovely woman who understood the assignment. I also loved your recollection of your time alone in Germany. I spend most of my days alone too now that my husband is gone to Heaven. I lost my mom, then 17 months later my husband, so these last 6 years have been lonely. However, I was 60 when the deaths started so I had my mom a long time. My mom was my savior too. She was a Proverbs 31 lady, for sure. I also grew up very innocent and naive so the real world did a number on me. Thankfully, all that my mother instilled in me stayed put and I always had that to draw from. I especially loved where your name comes from. Your entire story is so very touching. Your children are so very blessed to have a mom like you in the times we’re now living in. May He continue to bless you and yours. ❤

I know what you mean about shopping in Germany. When I first moved there, it was irritating. The limited hours, not knowing the brands, etc. But after I got used to it, I realized that shopping is not a thing with Germans. Life is. The shops closed early on Saturdays so people had the afternoon and evenings to get together. On Sunday, they were all closed and there'd be throngs of Germans taking walks in the woods, and stopping at the cafe in or near the woods for kaffe und kuchen.

My auntie and uncle were also missionaries in Peru in the late 50’s they only returned home when my auntie began to struggle mentally. Because of her behaviour the church believed she had been affected by the devil only to find out when they returned home she had a brain tumour and died shortly after. The loss was huge my cousin was only nine. Sadly, they had lost their daughter to polio. I know the struggle you have had Cheer with losing your mum because sadly we lost my husband to cancer and I see my son struggle it breaks my heart that I can’t take his pain away.

You’re right, you can’t, but there is no pain in this earth that God is impotent to use. He sees every tear that falls, hears every breath of a prayer and the pain that the devil would use to break us is often the very place God uses to bring us new life, more truth, deeper understanding. You can’t do anything in your own strength for your son but don’t ever, ever underestimate the power and might behind your prayers for him! Stay on your knees for him!

Cheere you brought a tear to my eye, i found myself relating to you in some ways. My father died when i was five, in unusual circumstances, cardiac arrest mid flight, my mum, me, and brother's were present. I don't remember any of it. My mother never married again, she didn't even have a relationship, she dedicated her life to us kids. It was hard for her, an immigrant to the UK, where we kids were born. She got ill in her mid 40's, i left my job, and cared for her, for the last five year's of her life. She died four weeks before my wedding, when i was 26. She was very religious, and i kind of abandoned it, thinking where was god for her, who she was so dedicated to. It's true, when you have your own kids, that's when you feel that loss the most. I've found faith again, since the kids were born, and life goes on.
I loved how you got your name, but so sad to hear the circumstances, of your Grandmother's birth, then loss, of the triplets.

Cheere I can so relate to your being a military wife and turning to God to cope! I was a military wife for 37 years. I also married at 21, moved 2000 miles from home and had three children in three years. I was baptized and converted to the Catholic faith when pregnant with my second child. My husband, was not ready for his responsibility, he was only 20, did not practice and was always gone. God brought me through that time, my children and I found refuge in the church community and my faith kept me sane. I think without god I never would have survived it or stayed married, and we will celebrate 45 years this year. I also could not have coped with my sons doing multiple tours in Afghanistan. She died at 88, Alzheimer's, devastating, she was a Childrens Librarian, very intelligent. So different, but similar. You made me cry😊😊😊😊in a good way. I love you.

I knew you were a Christian from the beginning. (The Holy Spirit thing) So I stayed for the books and your outlook. Now I see how much we are similar. My son was in the infantry for the surge as well. He did about 18 months in Iraq and is now a police officer. My grandfather was a pastor and I have been in the faith all my life. My mom was also the driving force in my life and I lost her a few years ago. I know what you mean about grieving your mom. I have taught 5-6 grade Sunday school for more than 40 years. My daughter works for the Southern Baptist convention in California. Keep it up, and you will be so successful! I so enjoy your book reading and reviews. Were your parents with Wycliff?

I think that the greatest gift a parent can give to his or her child is to be a happy, positive person...those of us who struggle with a bit of a curmudgeonly streak do our best, but the rare naturally happy, serene people are the jackpot in the parent lottery, imo.

I really enjoyed Brittany’s book, something I REALLY didn’t expect. JPS not so much but thought it was better than nothing.
Another book club suggestion would be Angela Levin’s book about Queen Camilla or Robert Harman’s book about the King if you’re looking for more Royal ones.
Or I’d love YOUR take on The Housekeeper’s Diary by Wendy Berry if you can find one - housekeeper at Highgrove for 7 years when the boys were young.

Hi cheere. Your stories were so touching and thought provoking…. The way you spoke about your mom was fascinating to me. God took something so incredibly dear to you but that allowed you to know Him in return. You’re time in Germany is exactly what I’m going through now. I put my career on hold to raise my two babies and I related to the the way you described your life during that time in your life. It’s a beautiful gift.

Oh my, where do I begin? Cheere, I am so sorry about the crippling loss of your Mom. She sounds like an absolute angel. I am also so very sorry that I wrote a message to you when I saw this post, rather than after listening to it.. I do manual work, as a small scale organic veg farmer and every day I download many talks to listen to while I'm working. I told you how your reviews got me through hard times during my mom's illness, and how she now loves you too... and I told you this without even mentioning your mom and how sad I am for you. Please know that I was not callous, only uninformed. You are so brave, your grandparents have passed on their resilience and strength along with your beautiful name! Thank you for this wonderful channel and for your inspiration ❤️ 💜
