    So the Elves Falath is the bike we'll be building up on the channel after it one the vote against the Trifox just recently. However, after publishing a video about this cheapest Chinese carbon race bike build project, the Australian Distributor for Elves frames reached out to me and informed me of something pretty big. A curve ball relating to this exact frame.

    This is really good content lately with the "chinese" frames. Good in that we get to learn about other bikes that are quality and a bit easier on hip pocket that most the mainstream youtube channels wont touch because of sponsorships. its really sad the sport is becoming more cost prohibitive to enter. Parents simply are not going to drop thousands and thousands of dollars on bike so billy can have a crack down at the local juniors

      When I studied in China in the late 90s, one of my Swiss classmates paid for his education there by buying overstock Giant frames (usually with no logo) & shippng them back to Europe for a friend to sell. The country does have a little experience making medium & high end bikes & the engineers & technicians to go along with it. I'm still a little leery of anything involving bearings from China, because it's too easy for someone to swap out fakes for the real ones somewhere along the way, but there's definitely a very skilled workforce in place. They just need an honest company to work for, and they'll match what any factory does anywhere. The problem is the same one every place has. The people with enough money to start a business tend to be, well, entitled bastards with integrity issues.

      Well, guess where all the western brand frames are made 😀 The machinery and experienced workers have always been right there.

    • @albr4
      @albr4 Před rokem +4

      Probably because all the traditional western brands also manufacture their frames in sometimes the exact same facility as the cheaper unbranded ones. There's no special sauce that the high price tag frames use, it's all the same, maybe some variation in how the carbon is designed and layed up which saves a bit of weight but to the end user it makes no difference. The only brands that actually are different and better are those like Time who use Resin Transfer Molding and carbon braiding instead of the standard EPS moulding.

    • @belverticale
      @belverticale Před rokem

      @@albr4 I agree they're all made in China anyway...the difference has been quality control...however these days the Chinese branded stuff has really improved. • @shepshape2585
    @shepshape2585 Před rokem +6

    What I gleaned from this video is the same as the Yoeleo bikes. When they first came out you could buy one at a very reasonable price. Then they became more popular through reviews on CZcams and they went and became UCI approved. Now that same bike is thousands of dollars more than it was initially. So what I'm saying is, if you want to build one of these sexy ELVES frames up, do it now while you can get one at a lower price, because once they're UCI approved, that price is going to rise dramatically. I could be wrong, but someone has to pay for that UCI approval.

    • @thebespokecyclist3624

    I think it's better to continue building the bike with the original frame and do the long term review on that. One of the interesting premises of this project is anonymity on getting all the parts to be used. Which for me shows whatever quality you got would be what I could get if I bought same brands. If you wait to get the UCI approved frames, I would think they may have given extra attention to the frame knowing it will be reviewed by you. It would cause me to doubt if I get same quality. The frame you got now looks promising already and makes viewers interested in the brand. Just waiting for that long term review to get me into buying/building chinese bike for use.

Part of me was leaning towards vanyar rim because it has uci approval, part of me leaning to disc vanyar or falath because I think descending will be more enjoyable. This video has pretty much made my decision to hold off and go disc once they are uci approved and whack a rival groupset on it I can then upgrade down the line. Travelling to Brisbane is possible but it’s almost a full day (coming from Noosa area) and that’s not ideal when you’ve got family. Combine this with trying to get a business off the ground(RCA); racing has not been on the priority list unfortunately. I do want to get more into it, but I’m not going to force it. I am wondering whether L (52) is enough. Yes, I would like to buy it with integrated cockpit. We do you think that Falath is much better? Both looks great in my opinion but they say Eglath is more universal. I am not going to win anything, I ride trips 100-130km with significant hills (beginning of mountains). @@MarianBobolny at 175 52 seems appropriate but can't really tell from the rest of yo body. falath is more aero and that is allways the go to for a strict road bike. if you have mobility issues maybe get the frame with the taller headtube but l would ride a full aero road bike on 150 or some km cause if the position good, a somewhat low bar is no issue. if you are super tall riding a too small frame with 140mm stem then too low can play a part ...

    • @MarianBobolny
      @MarianBobolny Před rokem

      @@leonschumann2361 Yes, aero design is popular right now and I like it, but I am still thinking... I do not need extra stiffness because sometimes I ride on roads with not very good surface. Aero design may works when you maintain higher speed, I have some significant hills on my way so that average speed is not very high. But yes, If you are 167 and M (49) is comfortable for you I should probably take L (52). Do you remember the length of stem you use?
      Size of Eglath is even more challenging, because there is 50 and then 53. Maybe 50 would be ok, because the geometry is little less aggressive than in Falath and the bike in the same size is little bigger.

    Yes, Chinese bikes are making their presences felt because, for example, a Cippollini frame is up to $6000 which is well above my means, although it’s nicely sculpted with the down tube and seat tube caressing the wheels. The color chart offers odd, unsatisfying colors. While I seriously and enthusiastically considered a Chinese, I finally settled for a Bianchi Aria carbon complete bike for about $3000 which i purchased domestically which gives confidence should any problems arise.

Bikes are getting so expensive now and as a u17 racer Its so hard to afford. I should definitely look into reaching out to a few companies that would be able to help me with my racing ventures. If you wait for a manufacturer prepared for CZcamsr prototype, doesn’t that invalidate the anonymous consumer frame review? What wasn’t clear is whether there are any difference between the current model and the UCI approved model. If so, is the current frame “subpar”? My guess is that they are the same frame but Elves is just going through the UCI application process. I think you should continue building with the current frame because whatever prototype frame won’t be representative of what a typical customer would receive.
