Join me on board as I fly with British Airways ( BA ) in one of their new Boeing 787-9 'Dreamliners 'on a 12hr flight from Tokyo (Narita) to London (Heathrow). This route (BA6) had been flown by Boeing 777s until the day before my flight! The 787-9 we flew in (G-ZBKI) was actually only certified to fly in March 2016.

When are you going on SJC-LHR route? I'm going to experience the Dreamliner for the first time and the first time flying BA at the end of September 2016 when I'm traveling to Dublin. I will be going on the SJC-LHR route round trip. My outbound flight I'll be in first class and my return I'll be in Club World. I used my American Airlines Frequent flier miles. To book it.
Enjoy NateR227! I don't have that route booked I'm afraid. I'm currently about to board a BA 767 back to Edinburgh, then off to Doha in First class.
The dreamliner looks absolutely amazing - and BA's new business looks equally as great. Pleasantly surprised of the presentation of the food and the cabin, loved it.

4:09 Lol I completely agree, on my last Club World flight the elderly man next to me gave me a disapproving look when I raised the divider immediately after take-off.
Yeah it's not a good design. Even if you knew the person, you don't want to be staring at them. What's the etiquette for a couple to raise the divider?

Monsieur Uz plus, some people don't travel well sitting backwards (my gran would get travel sick if she faced backwards), so it's a pretty dumb design IMO

Thank you very much for uploading this...am fascinated with the 787! I'm an old BA ex-loyalist from the 90's when First had the JFK-LHR "Sleeper Service"... truly phenom! Couldn't possibly stomach this flying backwards malarkey...and viewing your seatmate head-on! The food looked pretty good, but the IFE screen a bit small?! Must also say...they've definitely cut corners on the Amenity Kit...those small sizes! 😁🌴✈ PS Have liked and subscribed! 💝😁🌍

Nice One...Going thru some of your other vlogs...In Australia there is a kinda thing amongst car enthusiasts...You arebeither a Ford guy or a Holden guy...Boeing vs Airbus...I don't know why,but I'm a Boeing guy...Loved the 747 as a kid,probably comes from that.
I too have a soft spot for Boeing. Are you a car enthusiast too? I've recently purchased a new FGX Falcon XR8 which will be one of the last locally built cars. As you'd expect with a ~500bhp supercharged V8, it's quite fun to drive! :) (terrible fuel economy though!)

Only good thing about BA is the livery! But what stunning livery it is.

Yeah. As a brit I am very dissapointed at BA's approach to the 787. The first class is as spacious as other's business too.
QFfan why would you be disappointed. Do you realise how cool it is. We went in are freinds private jet and on takeoff I faced backwards. It was so cool the feel of the plane take off it was awesome.

The seat configuration is fine if you choose an isle seat. Don't know why so many people seem to think they have to sit by a window - you never see very much.
On the contrary, I love the view!

Great video. In your opinion, will a backwards-facing seat be more likely to affect airsickness-prone passengers? Especially during takeoff acceleration, steep ascent, and prolonged descent?
I couldn't say. It was my first flight sitting backwards and I found it fine.
In my experience the backward facing seat makes no difference at all. For nearly all of the flight there is no sensation of motion and nothing moving outside the windows, so the seat direction has no bearing on your comfort.
Agreed. I thought it may have felt weird but after takeoff, it felt completely normal to me.
Great video! The layout seems weird! Similar to the JAL Sky suite, but with the reverse seat. How did you find it? Was it light the entire flight?
I didn't mind sitting backwards. Yep, it was light the entire flight so my body clock was quite confused when I arrived in London.
Wow...That takeoff roll seemed so long. Looks like the aircraft was very heavy, especially with fuel for a 12hr flight.
Yep I suspect that the tanks were pretty full.
I've seen other videos of the BA 787-9 where the entertainment screen does move and tilt, maybe yours was just broken?
Hi Andrew, yep I've since been told that the screen does tilt so maybe mine was either broken or just stiff (as the plane was fairly new). I've added annotation clarifying that but I believe that some ad-blocking software also blocks my annotation.

I have a question. On seatguru.com, it states the seat you were in is not recommended. We are flying SJC-LHR and we are booked in CW. How was your experience in this seat? Did you find it bothersome to be so close to the galley/bathrooms? Thank you.

The 777 sounds better spooling up but the 787-9 is more comfortable to fly in.

Wow. It looks decent, but just fly Business with Emirates and there is no comparison.
It's not bad, but I do agree, EK are pretty good.
Well that depends, on some 777's Emirates still has Angle Flat seats, while their soft product might be great, their hard product isn't all that good unless you're on a newly configured aircraft or in one of their A380. BA Service is usually decent and I'm usually interested on a comfortable seat.
True Andre, the 777 business hard product is only average.
BA is nothing special anymore. I don`t like the backward facing seats. Dreamliner is ok but I prefer the A350. The 777 isn`t that bad either. In November I`ll be flying Business Class from CDG to Haneda with Air France on a 777-300ER
Enjoy your AF flight! I've never flown AF as I tend to stick with the One World airlines. I'd tend to agree that BA aren't anything special.
I find that the extra humidity in both the A350 and 787 helps a lot! I find that after 10hrs in a 777 (or 747) that my nose becomes quite dry and irritated.
But not too great lookinc if its comparated with Concorde

The screen should angle down, did you attempt to move it. On my 787 flight it could be moved x
Yep I tried. Maybe it was too stiff and I didn't want to put too much pressure on it? Unfortunately the power plug didn't work either so the CSM charged my laptop in the galley.
FYI, the screen definitely angles down. I sat in 7A on G-ZBKE 2 weeks back and it worked just fine. But, as you said, it was probably a bit stiff due to it being a brand new jet. By the way, great videos.

Which class? The CW layout isn't great (and economy never will be) but I don't mind this First layout.
the BA Business class seats.... they are awful and seem quite narrow too.... haven't flown BA economy since about 2005.... (I'm a Qatar Airways fan) :)

airplane food is just to disguisting for me I always ask are there any kids menus they're nearly always no so I go to self service area and grab a coke and a sandwich

It felt like the takeoff went for a long time. I guess it was full of fuel!
