    Join me on board as I review the British Airways 787-9 Business Class, or Club World as BA call it, product in their brand new 'Dreamliner'.
    This route (BA6) had been flown by Boeing 777s until the day before my flight! The 787-9 we flew in (G-ZBKI) was actually only certified to fly in March 2016.

    They say sitting backwards is safer as you don't get thrown forward. In Munich air crash of 1958 a lot of the survivors were sitting backwards. Good review.

    • @PaulStewartAviation
      @PaulStewartAviation  Před 6 lety +1

      Thanks Paul. An interesting comment about sitting backwards. I suppose it makes sense that if you do stop suddenly then being pushed into your own seat is probably a lot less damaging that being pushed into the back of the seat in front of you. Thanks for watching. :)

    They have the same business class layout in the 20+ year old 747, such a shame as you would think they would bring out an all new business class for a new generation of aircraft. Great vid!

      Thanks mate. I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying my narration. I'm thinking that I might re-edit a few of my other videos in the near future too. :)
      There's no doubt that I feel incredibly fortunate to fly in business class and I wouldn't for a moment suggest that this BA product isn't a lot nicer than any economy or premium economy product in the air. Having said that, in comparison to many other similar priced (if not cheaper!) business class offerings, it really doesn't compete. For example, BA club world between Sydney and Heathrow is around $7-8K while I can get a Vietnam Airlines 787 and A350 for $3.9K! Vietnam are an extreme example, but other airlines like JAL and Finnair (both well respected) often have SYD-LHR return flights in the mid $5Ks.

    • @PaulStewartAviation
      @PaulStewartAviation  Před 6 lety +3

      Oh, and on the topic of caviar, I've never actually tried it before. I've used frequent flyer points to book Qantas First SYD-LHR next month and need to youtube how to actually eat the stuff. haha

    • @PaulStewartAviation
      @PaulStewartAviation  Před 6 lety

      Yep you're right although I'm not sure if they've officially launched it or if the photos were leaked. Either way, it remains a very high density product that is already behind their current competitors.

  • @homer3152
    @homer3152 Před 6 lety +2

    Thank you very much for this thorough review..it helps me a lot. I am missing the menue and the wine list, though. The BA seating arrangement is indeed well below best industry practise. Yet, on their 787, it seems to me that at least you dont have to climb over the feet of your neighbour to get out from a window seat..is this right? The impression remains that BA is trying to squeeze as many as possible pax into the cabin..which makes this overall a "cheap" and certainly not a premium product (no champagne beofre take off..gosh..thats really cheap). I am planning a C trip to HKG early next year and BA is 320 € cheaper than CX with their A350 all aisle access cabin...but CX is a direct flight from Germany. I am still pondering whether i should really save the money and fly BA--I tend to spend a bit more and fly CX..why should i spend my money on such a mediocre product...

    • @PaulStewartAviation
      @PaulStewartAviation  Před 6 lety +2

      Hi mate, thanks for the comments. Yep sorry about missing the menu and wine list. I didn't realise until afterwards that i forgot to take photos of those as I usually include them. I'll be sure to include them in upcoming videos. You're right, in the window seat, you don't have to climb over your neighbour at all. It really is the only decent seat on the aircraft. :)
      Have you seen my video of the CX A350 business product? It's a whole generation ahead of BA. :)

    I usually manage to get a good deal with B.A. in their business class long haul so value for money they are fine. However if I was paying a premium price I would not use them in preference to many other airlines, although I'd still opt for B.A. over any U.S. carrier. (not sure about American these days they have upped their game since I last used them)

    @UWSGP Před 6 lety +1

    Good commentary and objective thoughts on the service. Really sad that the business-class product on one of their newer aircraft is only okay. The aspects I would change if I were running BA are 1) priority boarding, why feel like cattle if you are paying for a premium product? 2) have the seating similar to United new Polaris seating (777-300ER), it is a much better seating configuration; 3) have the cabin prepared with amenity kits and headphones prior to takeoff; and 4) improve the menu, your dinner did not look good to me as a vegetarian option. If I were flying this route I think I would choose ANA.

    Although the 787-9 is an amazing aircraft. I don't see how it can replace Qantas's 744s. I think a 777 would do the job better...

    • @PaulStewartAviation
      @PaulStewartAviation  Před 6 lety +2

      Hey mate, I think that QF's plans are to replace one or two large flights with more regular smaller flights and thus allowing more options to passengers. The other issue is that the 777 is getting old now and an all-new 777X is due to be released in the next few year so the logical thing to do would be to wait for the new aircraft. Having said that, production of the 777X isn't probably going to be up and running for more than 5 years time and QF would be hoping to replace a few of their 747s before then. It would have been great if QF were launch partners of the 777X although I suspect there's quite a bit of bad blood between QF and Boeing because the 787 was delayed by so many years.

      maybe because, unlike the middle east carriers, BA doesn't receive an unlimited amount of government funding that keeps said airlines alive. Cut their funding off anf they would be bankrupt within a year

      No we don't, I hate BA and sadly I'm a Brit. I think they should be banned from flying my flag on the tail, their Spanish!!!!!

    My BA business class to Chennai and return were absolutely terrible and I will never fly with them again unless there is absolutely no choice. Agree the seating is terrible, as was the food, salmon (packed with bones!) and the service, well there wasn't any. My complaints were treated with derision by this shocking and incompetent airline. Do not fly BA if you want a decent and comfortable long haul flight! Even their legal department got the wrong flight in their defence. Aggghhhh....

    Nice video, but the lay out on the B787 is not 2-4-2 but 2-3-2

    I don't understand why they didn't offer champagne.
    Bad service
    The slogan to fly to serve should be changed in welcome on board to our bad service

    Wow BA has gone down hill since I last flew them. I really dislike the seating arrangement. When I absolutly have to fly BA would not be my first, second or third choice. I rarely fly so when I do I usually go first class, but if that's business class, I shudder to think what first class is like. Damn shame because I always thought BA was at the top of their game. To many bean counters worrying about the bottom line..

      Absolutely Keith. Check out my review of the first class seat in the 787 too. It was my worst first class experience.

    BA has a great reputation of highest safety and poor quality Club World/Club Europe unless you opt for the First Class then you will see the different. I would not choose to fly with BA on the long haul flight. There are many airlines out there whom can offer a better value for what you pay for business class.

    It really does just beggar belief that BA have carried that awful business class seat onto their new 787's. Very bizarre

    I wish it could fly with warp speed so that the hell in that business class would be over in less than a nano second. I would be flying with BA Business class soon and I have been hit with depression and sadness after seeing the product. This product would win everything in the CWAS awards. CWAS stands for Crap, Worthless and SHITE.

      I think I may have just had bad luck with the crew. I understand that some countries don't allow alcohol to be served when the plane is still on the ground, but I don't think that's an issue in Japan. I suspect the crew just couldn't be bothered (or cost cutting...)

      However they make a profit which most airlines can only dream of, so in that sense they are doing something right. Passengers keep flying with BA and until they stop flying with them they don’t need to do much apart from keeping the shareholders happy and paying a dividend. A new club seat will be coming with the 350s and the 787-10s with direct aisle access.
