Air New Zealand Business Class Review - B787-9 Dreamliner (+ NEW Auckland International Lounge)

Join me as I visit the new Air New Zealand flagship lounge at Auckland (AKL) airport and then flying to Sydney with Air New Zealand in one of their 787-9 'Dreamliners' in Business Class (or as they call it, 'Business Premier')!
The lounge was overhauled late last year and expanded significantly and it really shows! It's now a world class lounge.
Air New Zealand were Boeing launch partner of the 787-9 (and this comes as no surprise when you look around AKL airport and see 787s everywhere) and I was keen to try their business premier class from their flagship airport.

You might want to check your grammar at 5.27...'You' is an indicative pronoun as in who? 'Your' is the required pronoun as in a possessive-lolol just saying. I'd love to try this business class out and all that's on offer lol. I prefer Air Nz though because it's the airline of my home country.

I've never thought of that before, Dennis... I just assumed it was "quirky design"... but you are right... sadly, you'd probably be disappointed with the amount of beer that would fit in it, though. 😅

As a New Zealander, I many years ago stopped flying with them, got tied of old grumpy flight crew. Even though it generally means an extra flight to Europe etc, I use Qantas, having lounge access does help.

great video mate! i am totally in love with the 787. especially the livery on the ANZ one is great! had my first time with LATAM and i have to say it is a really new and special flight experience! glad you did not have to problem with the windows of the 787.. is some conditions the windows mist up on approach or depature.. we had that problem on approach into Frankfurt
Thanks for watching! Yep, it's a great aircraft. Because of my generally pessimistic personality, I was keen to avoid it for the first years incase there were any major design flaws but I feel that it's safe enough to fly long-haul. Hopefully you'll get to try the new A350 soon!
Flight Time Honslty Air New Zealand should buy the 787-10 but I love the 787
+Kim Dowling - Maybe it's a NZ thing? Yep just like CX's old J. Which is odd as I thought that the general consensus (which I share) is that the reverse herringbone is vastly superior to the herringbone so I'm surprised NZ haven't followed CX into 'reversing' it with their newer aircraft.

My favourite plane
Air NZ business Premier class is one of the best business class products available.
Having experienced it in a few occasions on the B777-200 , B777-300 and B787, I found the seat on the B787 a little less spacious than the B777s.
The service and food is outstanding, first class experience, at a business class price

I love the view out the front of the Dreamliner, that curve of the wing looks so sweet. I like to see a review of the premium eco product which looks exceptionally good better than a lot of airlines business produt
Agreed - the wing view of the 787 looks fantastic. Unfortunately I don't have any upcoming premium economy flights with Air NZ but I do in the new Qantas 787-9 later this year.

when you mentioned that the table slides forward very far for easy access out, yes correct. but also if you prefer to use the ottoman as a seat you can sit there and enjoy your meal :) love the review amazing airline and experience you've shared. thank you

After watching your vid I decided to take NZ2 to LA on the 23rd of oct just got back to auckland on NZ1 this morning flying business premier both ways. Thanks for the reviews and your suggestions, it certainly didn't disappoint, the experience was awesome highly recommend it guys.
Thanks for updating us on how your flight went. Did you manage to get a seat on the left side? :) Have you flown business class with other airlines? If so, how did your experience compare with those? I've just returned from Auckland (China Airlines and LATAM back) and Air NZ really do offer a good service (food especially).
I've flown emirates to melbourne and royal Brunei to London but both on economy. Flying to london was pretty uncomfortable for that long so I was tossing up weather to fly business class or econmy but your vid was the deciding factor to be honest I don't know weather I could afford it again but I would like to give China southern a go
Yeah it's a tough one as business class can be expensive, yet long-haul economy is also painful. I do note that Qatar, JAL and Finnair have business class seats between Australia and Europe for $5K so that's less than the usual $7-9K. Maybe consider premium economy as a reasonable compromise between the two? I'm flying in PE from Sydney to Hong Kong in early December so expect a review of that shortly afterwards.

Hey Paul just flew NZ125 to Melbourne on the Dreamliner and managed to get business class again by using my airpoints dollars and managed to get the left side of the aircraft seat 1A. It's more private on that side you don't have people in the middle isle facing towards you but flew back to Auckland on the 777 and the same with LA I flew 777 and the middle isles on the 777 face the people on both sides of the aircraft

You know your in Auckland New Zealand when you see dark green grass and short drizzles.
Great video! I've only ever had good things about Air new Zealand's staff and it's good to see that you had a similar experience. I understand that ANZ are currently in the process of pushing their trans-pacific credentials to Australians but the biggest issue is that you always need to stop in Auckland. If you've just spent 13 hours flying from LAX, the last thing you want to do when you're only 3hrs from home is land, de-plane, sit around, board and then fly for another 3hrs! They offer a good product but unfortunately they're just a long way away from everyone else.
Thanks mate. Look, I agree with you. Having done the trans-pacific hop twice last year, by the end you just want to get to your destination and having to stop in AKL for a few hours would be torture. Having said that, I'm keen to try Air NZ long-haul in the near future.

Thanks! My routes are Paris-Doha, 2 hours of layover in Doha then Doha-Bali. And back. I'm flying with my sister and parents, family trip this year!

I would love to see the ANZ Boeing 777s and 787s painted in their mata’atau livery. I wasn’t too impressed with the liveries painted on their planes from 1996 on.

Loved this film. I have traveled on Air Newzealand, it is one of my favorite. I suggest you leave the ambient sound and may be reduce the music a little bit. The ambient sound gives the feeling of being inside the Aircraft and flying. Good Camera work very steady and always in focus. Great work !

Another great flight report, I am working through them.. The seat reminds me of the Virgin coffins and it seems here if you like looking out of the window you will get a bad neck. On the other hand good service and that meal looked epic. Fishing rod to get that salmon off the plate?

My family and I are going on a flight (my sister and my first time) to Europe, which will be a VERY long flight.
12 hours to Shanghai, 11 hours from Shanghai to Vienna, and then 45 min into Slovenia.
And that's just the flying time!
Did I mention the flight's at midnight?
I guess it's worth the cheap price of 15,000 for 7 people... both ways (our returning flight is in March and we leave December).
Air New Zealand has never failed my family :D

Great video and very informative! The lounge at AKL looks nice. I hope to fly on one of the Air New Zealand 789's soon. In seat 6A can you see out of the window very well? I have looked through the Dreamliner before (not flown on it) and I saw that the windows can be slightly blocked by the seats being at an angle in business premier?
Hey mate, thanks for watching. Seeing out the window is a stretch as you really have to twist around. The windows themselves are huge so the view is pretty good once your seat is reclined but the view is very limited when the seats are in their most upright setting.

Thank you very much for uploading this video. I fly on Air NZ on a regular basis and I def. agree with you. Flight attendants in general are great, food could be a little bit more substantial (compared to other long haul carriers), and the seat in the Dreamliner is not up to the high standards of the 772 and 773 of the same airline, even when the stats brochures state they are the same.

Yes, the business class seats on 772 and 773 are the same model but slightly wider and a tad longer too.

“Chef prepares food in front of you”😳 fn when?!! I’ve never seen it!, 6 overseas trips last year, only once got a hot meal in the lounge, even then they had no fn plates....
you know how had An issue with the lack of stuff on the tv on the plane but you can take a usb drive with movies on it with you on to the plane I normally arrive 2 hours early and download movies using their wifi

Good review and yup, nailed it on the lack of storage. The lie flat bed is v handy for the long overnight flight to LA/USA, but on balance for cost/space/service, I prefer Emirates or Cathay Pacific. Just more space on the plane :-)
Thanks for watching. A fully flat business class seat is a must these days, so I'm glad it is fully flat, but there seems like other more efficient folding mechanisms. Folding over forward is just plain weird!
I was so eager to fly until i realized the configuration of their business class seats. Now im tempting to book my business class travels with Singapore Airlines instead.
Air NZ are a great airline and the crews have always been wonderful in my experiences although the business class seat isn't great. It really is a generation old and I can't understand why they're not upgrading it. Even their new 787-9s are getting this old setup. *shakes head*
