I liked everything about my 3080 12gb other than the fact that it turned my PC into a space heater! I underestimated how much heat 360w would produce. I sold my 3080 12gb for $850 2 weeks before the 4070 launched and then bought that instead for $600 haha. Technically my original card was faster according to benchmarks but in reality, in the games I play, it was performing a little better. I game at 1440p which is benefiting more from the faster clock speed of the 4070 as opposed to the higher memory bandwidth of the 3080 12gb. I had this in mind before I made the switch. Had I gamed at 4K, I would have been better off keeping my 3080 12gb and just sweating my balls off.

I bought my first PC setup this summer for $2,000 dollars with a 3060 Dual OC 12GB and 13700KF (CPUs and GPUs are way more expensive in Iceland, the CPU and GPU were $500 each), and a week later I got word about the 4060 coming out, and I was upset at missing it.
But now after seeing that it's about 20% better in performance and like 15% higher in prince in Iceland, I'm not upset at missing it since the only thing I'm really missing out on is the frame gen AI, but I'm upset at NVIDIA's anti-climactic gen "upgrade".
If the 4060 was like 50% better in performance at almost the same price as the 3060, I'd without a doubt sell my 3060 and buy a 4060 instead. But now it's a no-brainer to just go with 3060 in Iceland, almost no difference in P/P for us.

If sub $500 is your target, you have lots of options. AMD, Intel, or a 30xx series are all viable competitors. RX 6800XT, Arc A770 16GB, or 3060 12GB would be the models I would start with. Any would be an upgrade. However, each of these has some limitations, so do some more research to find out which features are most important to you. There are probably a couple of other options sub $500, or even sub $400. But...there is not a "magic" GPU that is clearly the absolute best in every single case - at this price point.

If you want 1440p, the 4060 and 4060 ti are not going to cut it. I did a full review on the 4060. It’s up on my channel. You can see the limitations at 1440p. If you want 1440p, I would do one of two options. I would save a little more money and get at least a 4070 or I would consider finding a last gen GPU like the 30 series cards or the AMD cards.

@@ErockOnTech I did see your 4060 review video, and that was one of the factors that dissuaded me from going for that. I thought the ti version might be worth it, especially since where I live the 4060 ti is *a lot* cheaper than even the 3070 (but that's a _mycountryproblem_ ).
But I guess that settles it, I'll save a bit more and either go for the 4070 or the AMD 7700 when it comes up.

This gen is a complete mess. At this point I'm no longer mad, I'm apathetic.
I was always happy to see innovation and increase in performance, generation to generation, but this is a mess.
4070 with 12gb of vram, 4060ti with 16gb at a $100 premium, with a cut down die, in the past the card with higher memory would get a better gpu. It feels like nvidia is forgetting that their innovations, like raytracing, dlss, etc. all use a lot of vram. 4080 at a stupid price point for no reason other than to make their customers mad.
It feels like nvidia is shooting themselves in the foot by giving their products an inadequate amount of memory and setting prices out of reach for all of their customers, while amd is completely failing to capitalize on nvidias mistake, by releasing their underdog cards at a value that the market favorite would. This gen is a complete and utter mess, I'm thinking of switching to console gaming, if the gen after this one is as pathetic. Let's hope intel battlemage can fix the gpu market.

Maybe when their stockholders look at the performance of their "Gaming division" and have to answer to the future of that segment, we may get something better or they will just make so much profit from AI hardware that we'll just have to wait for Intel at this point to actually do something to compete.

The 4060 TI should have had a 192bit bus and 12GB GDDR6 12gbps (288GB/sec) rather than super expensive 128bit 18gbps GDDR6X (288GB/sec) they could have done it for $400 easy too.
    The 4070 cards should have had 16gbps GDDR6 256bit bus and 16GB VRAM rather than expensive GDDR6X 21gbps 192bit.
Sure power consumption would go up but not not by a whole lot around 40 watts at the most. This would have around the same performance while allowing more memory for the same cost. the only thing i can think of is inVidia is wanting to push their proprietary GDDR6X and that is it but it's also about up selling the customer to buy the next teir up, problem is they are all awful value with the exception of the RTX4090 which is crazy expensive but it's the only thing that adds value!!!
12GB should be mainstream with the upper mainstream 16GB, high-end 20GB and ultra high-end 24GB like the route AMD has gone down. Nvidia shot themselves in the foot... with a bazooka.
While nVidia is coming out with enhanced texture compression (Random-Access Neural Compression) that most likely needs to be implemented into games and thus has no impact on the present games thats staved of memory capacity. Even then that would be like 28% less memory consumption so a 8GB RTX4060 Ti with NTC would be like 12GB so even if the tech was implemented in today games it would still struggle but no doubt better than sitting on 8GB with BC compression but don't expect it till late 2024 so it's not going to impact the state of these graphics cards that are struggling with memory constraints today.

Yeah AMD has done a much better job on VRAM offerings and overall pricing. However, the value is still questionable on these new AMD cards when you compare them to the 6000 series.
Additionally, Nvidia doesn’t care about gamers anymore. When they thought they needed gamers, they gave us a decent jump in performance and good presentation of the 30 series cards for example. But then the crypto boom took off. They jumped ship immediately and took advantage of gamers. Then when the 40 series was announced it was basically a footnote in their 2 hour long conference. Now they are focusing on selling their AI capabilities to other companies for way more than they could ever make from gamers alone. That, amongst other things, is why the 40 series is so bad for gamers. Nvidia simply doesn’t give a crap about the gaming market.

Only got 40 fps or less in 1080p everything max (without pathtracing only RT Ultra) + DLSS Balanced. Then after the patches 20-30 because of only 8 gb vram. The chip could do a lot more. Now with a 4070 ti Super I get 60 FPs in 1440p with everything max with Pathtracing and DLSS Quality (no Frame Generation). Now thats like a 5-6 fold increase in performance, because I'm playing in double the resolution with Pathtracing instead of raytracing which you can look up in youtube it almost halves the performance once more and higher DLSS setting and still getting more then double the fps. And the 4070 ti super is surely not 5-6 times faster than a 3070. So 8 gb of vram was too little all along. That was my worst buy ever. I literally quit playing games for almost 2 years because if I can't max out I wont play and with the 8 gb basically choking me in every game I wanted to play there was no option. Almost every newer game wants close to or more than 8 gb of vram even in 1080p if you turn everything up. The chip can provide 60 fps but the low bandwith and low capacity vram chokes it down to 20-30. All that said I'm so glad I didn'T fall for the 4070 ti non super with 12 gb VRam because CP2077 sometimes needs 13 gb and Diablo 4 even allocates 15 gb sometimes.

amd have forced me to upgrade early, because their stuff just die too soon.
The rtx 4060 TI is for people who need more vram than power.
They consume much less electricity than their bigger brothers, so much that you can actually include the savings from your power bill, into the price.
You don't have to apply a lot of features in a game to have it look almost as amazing as the guy running highest settings. A 4060 should do fine for all games out there.
The biggest problem is in multiplayer games, where everyone has their own custom stuff. Skins/accessories.
Having all that stuff loaded simultaneously, require vram.
Also if you use upscaling, you properly can go lower in calculated resolution, than people are atm. I like to see some testing on that.
And all those features applied, seems like wasted power, because some of them are included in other features.

One recommendation everyone, avoid 4k monitors. You can get a great ultrawide oled monitor for about the same and I really can't tell the difference in games and out I got used to it in minutes. That'll quickly fix your "need" to get better frames. Just my two cents.

Very well put. 3 years later, the price to performance has gotten worse. 4060 should be a 4050 at $200 and 4060ti a 4050ti at $250.
Nvidia tried to trick customers with the 3060 8gb 128 bit version and sell it at the same price as the 12gb 192 bit as well as the 4070ti as a 4080 and this is just a continuation of that trend

    • @siyzerix

The rtx 4060ti is actually a rtx 4060. Its got like a massive 1300 cuda core increase over the 4060. If anything, its massively hamstrung by its 128bit bus. It REALLY needs a 160bit bus with 10gb of vram at the minimum. THAT would likely push its performance to current rtx 3070ti and maybe edge it out. Ideally, it should have had 192bit bus with 12gb of vram at which point it'd be likely within 20% of a rtx 4070.
The rtx 4060 as it is right now should be the rtx 4050 or rtx 4050ti at best. The rtx 4050 due to its 6gb of vram should not cross the $200 mark and should be limited to 75w to really make use of its efficiency. And the current 4060 should be at $250 with the 4050ti name slapped on it.
The rtx 4070 currently going should be at 200w and maybe shave off a few cuda cores and call it the rtx 4060ti and place it at $400 to $450. With the current rtx 4070ti having a 256bit bus with 16gb of vram at $500 to $550 and called the rtx 4070. The rtx 4080 should really be brought back down to earth at $800. Then there should be a rtx 4080ti that sits between the rtx 4080 and 4090 and have 20gb of vram on a 320 bit bus.

Let me explain. The 4060Ti is not intended for gamers. It is intended for low-budget AI gen. The 16gb prevents the GPU from having to switch to PC-based RAM and having to talk to it over the really slow PCI bus.
At the same time, the 4060Ti covers some of the sins of the smaller bus by pumping up cache, giving performance a modest edge for gamers on most 16gb cards. That was the intent. Phase out the 3060 cards and offer a card to the AI folks at a decent price. nVidia doesn't care about gamers anymore... it cares about AI. Gamers are gonna be treated like backwater crocodiles for awhile.
Meanwhile, this is a great card for AI gen. And it's cheap. For us, we would not go to the 4070 or so next. We would go to A100 / cloud-based services.
So there. Now you understand. Gamers are third-tier now. That's just the way it's gonna be.
Meanwhile, this is a pretty good card for gaming. Just don't expect the huge strides you've seen before. Be happy you're getting a roughly equivalent/performant card.

And while 4060ti 16gb is very overpriced, is probably the cheapest option to run it, at least satisfactory. I was waiting for amd to do something, but it’s just not getting any better. Gamers have to one day understand tech advancements we saw from 240p - 1080p were insane and never happening again. AMD is not a good option for me because I need CUDA cores for some neural network experiments, and also AMD's GPU down-scaling is messed up, which is important for me as a visually handicapped programmer. So I have to stick to Nvidia. I don't quite need a high-end GPU, being more of a tinkerer than a gamer. I'm still on GTX 960. I did not get 1060 because 960 was "good enough" for me at that time. I almost considered 2060, but then some other stuff happened in my life and then 3060 came with the insane crypto craze, so I wanted to wait it over. And now we have this stupid situation with 4060. Definitely, I don't want to buy an 8GB card, knowing that I upgrade rarely, so I would like something more future-proof. 16GB is so tempting but the price of 4060 Ti 16GB is just stupid, 520 EUR. Maybe I should buy a 3060 12GB. But frame gen and CUDA cores of 4060 are a really tempting factor. I think Nvdia just became the past 3dfx, only focus on their high class gpu and over-priced low end card

I just purchased a prebuilt gaming rig with a 4060ti 16gb and couldn’t be happier. Yes, I know I could get an even more powerful card, but the price of 4K monitors are way too high for my budget. Now I’ve been playing all of my games on high and ultra graphics with fantastic results. It’s not too expensive for new people starting out. The bitching just gets old.

You cant use the latest dlss with a 3070. Upscaling is the future, not rasta, why not mention that.

The Rtx 4060ti should of been 16gb at launch or at least 12gb and never should of had 8gb at all 8gb should of been the rtx 4050 as i bought my Rtx 4070 for ÂŁ539 and i think that could of been better than it is the Rtx 4070 should of been at least an Rtx 4070ti performance and should of definitely had 16gb VRam but 12 aint bad i love my Rtx 4070, so paying ÂŁ500 is just a joke, it should of had 16gb at launch for no more than ÂŁ400.

I'm so confused, videobenchmark shows that the 4060ti 16gb is just as good as the 3070 and almost as good as the 3070 ti for cheaper... and uses way less power, why does this card get hate? i literally dont understand... on paper it slaps, right?!
I need a card that can run 1440p, ideally on medium graphic settings with 144fps [can someone also clarify if I need to get 144 fps to make use of my 144hz monitor - this shit is fuckin confusing honestly]

It is roughly equivalent but has the 16gb spread for (a) higher resoultion throughput and (b) on-board GPU file systems, which are coming. 8gb won't get you very far in 2025.

I agree that it should be cheaper, but I will still buy this card for work. Because bottom line is it's a 3070 with 8GB more VRAM, AV1 encoding and it still outperforms cards like the 7900 XTX in apps like Blender.

It has a smaller bus, which keeps it cool and running fast. Faster than the 3070. GPUs have to crank down when they get hot. So y'know in that regard well- the extra L2 cache really helps in keeping traffic down across bus. Also note that file systems are anticipated to move into GPUs next year. That being the case, we're all going to start running out of GPU RAM as folks move their data stores over to the GPU.

The 3070 did not replace the 2080ti wtf? Nvidia literally marketed the 3080 as a direct replacement in all advertising. Not the 3070
