I think the AW3423DW and DWF are the exceptions to this. They were the first to the market with a QD OLED and it was fairly priced ( I know its out of 99% of peoples ranges but it was still very fair ) and was also quickly discounted. I got mine for around £950 ish not long after its release. Then the DWF released and that thing is still competitive in its pricing and constantly on sale. Even at its base price its still competitive and you get an amazing display for how much you pay.

Rtings has a review to show both AW2724DM vs G2724D. USB Hub, 180hz and HDR600 is what you're paying $100 more for. If you don't want any of those things, go with the G2724D, they're basically exact same performance monitor and G2724D has better natural black uniformity/text clarity.

Native Nvidia g-sync is huge for some people. the ability to free-sync all the way down to 1fps (or rather if your framerate dips to 25fps it's a big difference). Dell is freesync, while the aleinware may be proper g-sync (although doesn't state)

  • @SianaGearz
    @SianaGearz Před 4 měsíci

Hey i have myself a Lenovo G27q-20, that you reviewed previously, thank you for the colour profile btw, it actually fits and helps. I bought it several years ago, i think well before you even made your review.
So something i noticed is that the 165Hz mode on it is filthy. You won't notice the issue in games, so it's not at all useless, but desktop use and specialised tests reveal it. For one, slowly moving things can have a faint shadow wandering behind them, regardless of overdrive mode selected, but i suppose that's just overdrive tuning, it could have been done better by the engineering team. And the other is that inversion tests and particular pixel patterns result in strong local flickering. Considering it runs very well at 144Hz without these issues, and is best at 120hz/10-bit, it gives me an impression that this is a 144Hz panel and pushing it to 165Hz was just about possible but probably a step too far.
Not that i am anyhow dissatisfied, I actually got exactly what i needed for my combination of diverse use cases, i just have to be conscious about refresh rate selection.
So i'm wondering whether the Dell branded monitor you're showing here, whether it has actually a good all-purpose 165Hz mode; or whether they too have stretched their tech a little far; and in turn whether the 180Hz Alienware is the one to actually deliver on the promise of top refresh rate at all times with no drawbacks, which would actually do well towards justifying a good chunk of the price increase.

@Techless Can you shine some light on what monitor(s) to buy for my usecase?
I program for my dayjob, And at night I play games. Some examples: Deeprock galactic, total war, fastpaced shooters like Battlefield 2042 and single player story driven games like Mass effect or RDR.
For work, I estimate any refreshrate, any resolution panel that is large enough will do, where a 12:5 or 21:9 wide aspect ratio would be a benefit to have multiple windows open side by side.
OLED colour fringing would be less of an issue in dark mode, but static images are susceptible to burn in, so I guess that will rule out OLED.
OLED seems to be the ideal for gaming as it has fast pixel response times (although arguably less needed in slower paced games). The amazing image quality is a pro, All games benefit from higher refresh rates than productivity work does, wide aspect ratio might add more immersion for games as well.
Since I have a mixed usecase between work and play, and also quite varied genres of games I enjoy, I think a good compromise would be to get a single ultrawide 1440P nano IPS panel of atleast 144hz. IPS doesn't carry a risk of burn-in, which is essential for the productivity work, and are more recommended for a bright room, which my office is.
However, it seems like i'll be giving up so much, deep blacks, crisp images, better HDR implementations, true 10 bit colour, high refresh rates and fast pixel response times.
Could it be better to go with 2 monitors? one cheap ultrawide panel for productivity and a high refreshrate 16:9 OLED panel for gaming?
Maybe even a three monitor setup with 2 cheap 16:9 monitors for productivity and a 16:9 OLED panel for gaming? I'm generally not a fan of bezels, but I guess there are monitors that have minimal bezels, kinda like how that marketing department pictured that alienware.
What do you think would be best for my usecase?
What monitor(s) would you recommend, including monitors no longer being produced and only available secondhand?

Between a qd OLED monitor and an ips one there's such a gap in image quality that the price premium is completely justified, if you're going to use that monitor for it's intended use (mostly gaming).
There's also refresh frequency, connectivity, things such as height adjustable etc that comes into consideration.
So, throwing a blanket statement is poor advice. Rather watch reviews first, make sure you know your usage (gaming, office), think about your context (well lit room, potential sun glare on screen...) and only then narrow down your choice.

what gpu do you have what screen size do you need and what games will you be playing. cuz if your gpu isnt top of the line you might be better off with 1440p. and if you play a lot of competitive games you want a lower resolution to boost the fps. and if you only want 24 or 27 inch screen size 1440p should be enough (i have a 32 inch panel and 1440p is fine would rather have 4k for this size tho). also a small tip i wouldnt recommend a gigabyte g32qc (its 3 years old already but its va panel has some ghosting issues that can be noticed even in day to day use especially with dark mode turned on

The prices fluctuates a lot. Especially dell. The eventual prices they are willing to sell also depend on their volume and stock levels.
