2017 Ford E-450 Highway Drive V10 Triton - Uhual 15ft

Here is a quick highway drive of a 2017 Ford E-450 DRW 6.8L 2-valve V10 Triton, a 15ft truck from Uhaul. Normally I would't subject myself to Uhual but they are the only ones who had a car carrier capable of carrying the weight of my truck. My average mpg was 7.3 over 700 miles and the total combined weight of truck/load/trailer was roughly 17,500 lbs. Keeping the truck at about 75mph the RPMs constantly floated between 2,600 and 4,800. But mostly ran full throttle at the latter. Watch closely at the gauges you will notice how little if any it accelerates at full throttle. The absolute worst things about this truck is no cruise control and how crazy loud the cab is.

Most of these from Budget and U-haul over the past 12+ years had the 5.4L V8 until they dropped it, would’ve even been slower. Granted 75 mph is moving decent with that weight and in rain. The real gutless ones are the 4.8L V8 GMC’s Budget runs, especially back when they were 4-speed autos. I couldn’t imagine having a loaded box and towing a car over the Grapevine or similar haha.

Oh I definitely had the truck moving at a pretty good rate of speed. To be fair though the speed limit through much of the route was 75mph. I have driven a 5.4, but not a 4.8. I think a 5.4 would struggle quite a bit to keep 17.5k moving at 75mph. Hmm Grapevine? Do I know you?

crazyjdkid Grapevine is the big pass that takes you from SoCal to the Central Valley. It’s a good torture test for trucks, going up and down. And no you don’t know me, just a subscriber!
