    Hi! I really like how you're just mellow and taking your time. So many drivers out there are in a big hurry and just don't know why. They don't let anyone in and just speed everywhere. I so wish everyone would just slow down, be courteous, and just take it easy. I don't drive very often, but whenever I do, I see people going at least 50% above the speed limit, always tailgating each other, not letting each other in. It's terrible. With all the lights everyone has to stop at, you're not going to get anywhere faster by speeding. I always seem to catch up to the guy who passed me at a light later on.

    With an auto transport in the back, I'm curious about the turning. I have never done this before and I've been watching videos just to kind of get an idea of what to expect. I think driving straight will allow me to get used to the vehicle in terms of learning the feel and when to brake and what not, but nobody's touched upon the turning portion with a transport.
    Do you have to make wider turns? Is it just regular? What are some tips to you have to be safer with them?

    • @sergeantthomas3295
      @sergeantthomas3295  Před rokem +17

      @Cianime Brand: My advice on turning would be to take your time and use your mirrors, the bottom portion of the mirror in particular ....I'm not sure what size truck you're going to be using the longer the turck the more swing out you will need but you don't want to cut tuns too sharp and use that bottom portion of the mirror to see the wheels of the trailer as you make your turn, I also look at this part of the mirror first then the reg mirror and then the bottom again when changing lanes, when you're turning into a spot like a gas station most times the truck will be parallel to the pump but the trailer may still be to the side so when you pull out go straight a little then make your turn giving the trailer time to align wit the truck......bottom line use your mirrors go slow when taking turns and in tight spots (its easier to make corrections and see things before they happen when you do) stay calm don't let people rush you just because they're impatient, the feel for how to make turns with the trailer will come to you quicker than you think and you'll be whipping that truck like a pro before you know it. Come back and let me know how the trip went....I Preciate the support!

    • @sergeantthomas3295
      @sergeantthomas3295  Před 4 měsíci +1

      @Hrd4: When you pick up the trailer from Uhaul, you can have them hook it to your tow vehicle for you. It seems like it is something they are supposed to do, but if they don't, I would absolutely ask them to do so. During that time, ask every question you can think of. Some places are helpful and will give you all the info you need. Other places will hook you up, barely say a word, and send you on your way. Now I have never done it, but I would like to believe that if you bring your tow vehicle and the vehicle being towed, they will help in getting everything ready to tow for you and get everything unhooked when you return the equipment. As for your trip 8 hrs is relatively short take your time and keep calm, check your straps when you stop, when you pull into the gas station plan ahead on how you're going to get out without having to turn around and use your mirrors when pulling away from the pump and often on the road. Thank you for your appreciation, be safe and let me know how the trip went.

    I usually drive faster on the highway. I know the trucks can go ti 75, do you have to account go the recommended 55? Or is it safer to go a little faster? Let me know.

    • @sergeantthomas3295
      @sergeantthomas3295  Před rokem +3

      @Jay Don: I believe it's safer to go a little faster than the recommended 55 , but do what feels comfortable for you and what is safest for the conditions you are driving in. Keep in mind the faster you go the longer it will take to stop especially with all the weight you will be carrying and pulling, I hope I was able to help and that you make it to your destination safely.

    Did uhaul help you load and secure the car?

    • @sergeantthomas3295
      @sergeantthomas3295  Před 3 měsíci

      @johnbones6067: I did not have the car on-site when I picked up the trailer, but I would like to believe that if you did, they would help you load it and secure it at pickup and help you unload it at drop. off..

    how do you take the tire straps off if it's tighten?

    • @sergeantthomas3295
      @sergeantthomas3295  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Try opening the ratcheting mechanism all the way by squeeing the bar in the middle of it. (This should allow you to disengage the teeth within the handle) then pull the handle all the way down to the open position, then give the strap a few tugs upward....I hope this helps!

    Too bad that part is speaking Klingon language for many drivers.
