    At first glance, I really appreciated Garrett's Boost Advisor. It allows you to save your configurations and in doing so allows a person to change one variable at a time to see how it affects the recommended turbine. For example, if you were to change ambient air temperature 30 degrees F, the advisor might recommend a different turbo. Another example would be changing altitude from sea-level to 5000 feet might also recommend a different turbo. In making these changes in inputs, I was able to gain confidence that the turbo model/size would work well in both spirited high altitude mountain roads as well as along the western coastline cliffside roads. But, the advisor fell short when it came to A/R. Ok, Garrett and your videos both explain, very well I might add, how different A/R influences how a turbine wheel is influenced and its implications on flow and lag.
    Why doesn't Boost Advisor recommend an A/R based on your inputs as well?

    I'm finally able to wrap my mind around how to read compressor maps, what I can't seem to find is a resource explaining how to calculate the optimal turbine for a setup.

      What he is saying is 7500RPM is the maximum engine speed the engine he was talking about revs to.

    What about oil pressure in oil feed lines, do they need restricting or not? If so, how much restriction is advised and what kind turbo this is ( journal or ball bearing)?

    I have a question you may be able to answer, I have an Experimental racing type aircraft engine ported flow matched, turbocharged, inner-cooled, injected
    I am running out of boost above 18,000ft, I can run 25inches Hg manifold pressure and 2500rpm to 18,000ft above that I start losing Hg manifold pressure. I would like to maintain 25inches Hg to 24,000
    Can you help?
    Engine: 360ci- 220hp @ 2700RPM
    Engine flow = 217CFM @14.7psia STD
    Pressure ratio = 2.2
    Corrected airflow(lb/min) =31.1
    FYI @ 18,000ft we have 1/2 atmosphere 7.36psia @ 24,000 out side air pressure is 5.71psia or 11.64Hg
    Turbo is: Roto-Master (Rajay) Turbo Model 3AT6EE10J2 (325E10-1) P/N 600573-00 or 600576-00 or CF600573-9000 (RJ0331-1)

    Would you alter the engine displacement if it's a rotary engine? e.g. would I simply enter 1.3L for a 13B-REW rotary engine?

    • @TheFK8Life
      @TheFK8Life Před 2 lety +1

      Generally you would double it for a rotary - so size it for a 2.6L piston engine in terms of exhaust flow/turbo selection

    I'm trying to find a turbo using the formula on the website but I always end up with a PR that too high like between 3.6 to 4+ while the MFR is around 40. Tried also for builder build 77-90 MFR but PR was over 5. Its for a 4 cyl, 2.0L stock block bolt ons 400HP street build, the other is a 4 cyl 2.5 stroker long block at 770-900HP drag build (all crank hp)

    What would you recommend for an 02 WRX!?
    The TD04 will get into boost quickly, but runs out on top end. The VF22 or similar will have great top end, but has lag and takes a while to get into boost.
    Personally, I'd like to go with a BB setup. I've ran the GTP38r on my 01 F250 and I loved it! Great spool, and worked great for the power level I had..

    • @zeroyon4562
      @zeroyon4562 Před 4 lety

      I reckon a VF34 suits the WRX well, or even better a VF36 with the necessary twinscroll sump and header. VF37 works well too but comes in slightly later than the the VF36.
      Those turbos are a good middle ground between something bigger and the td04 without obliterating the gearbox and WRX engine.
