I have been playing piano for about 20 years but never at anything beyond an amateur/hobbyist level. I went and got my bachelors and masters in science and interdisciplinary fields and struggled a lot to get my degrees and get jobs I like and can thrive in. Whenever I hit a low point, playing piano was always there for me.
I've never had any illusions about being a professional musician. But seeing this video.... It makes me so sad. I would have loved to go to school for music. Your life is amazing, the opportunity to be steeped in music to that level... It's something I wish I had the balls to do basically. Nowadays I play everyday, I took up guitar and ukulele as well, and i teach piano on the side because I just can't give it up. Watching this video makes me happy and sad at the same time.... That's all I have to say. Thanks for reading.

I graduated from ESM 12 years ago. My experience was identical to yours...except it looks like the food and cafeteria in the dorm is WAY better than when I was there. Good! Keep up the hard work but don't forget to chill sometimes, it's just as important to the learning process. "I can't think anymore and I'm cold" = the ESM experience in a nutshell hahaha
LMAO, I have a nervous breakdown before every lesson, too. It's all good, LOL!!!
Hi Ju, this brought me right back. I graduated in the class of '79. I'm happy to find that many of the good things about Eastman remain. I see this was created three years ago, so, wherever you are now I hope you're well and happy! Dana Newhouse

yes! there are some gyms around the area as well as one on river campus (university of rochester campus)
I wish I made videos like this in conservatory... I miss it so much (despite the suffering)

some classes have a lot of students but most of my classes only have a few! it's not a large lecture based setting, but about like 10-20 people to a class??
