CAN YOU WRITE YOUR OWN WILL? (THE BETTER QUESTION IS SHOULD YOU WRITE YOUR OWN WILL!)

  • In today's do it yourself society, it is easy to believe it is OK to write your own Will. However, I caution you not to do it if you are contemplating writing your own will. There are many mistakes you can and will make if you don't understand the state statutes, inheritance laws, insurance laws and how a will plays itself out after the person who wrote it dies. Terrible mistakes in poorly drafted wills are difficult to correct after the testator dies. My best advice to you is to get the Will drafted by an experienced estate planning attorney. Estate planning mistakes are often very costly and sadly irreversible.
