Just a heads up for anyone who is looking to order these guns. Ive been trying to get in contact with Andy Sinden for weeks and my order has said "fulfilled" since November 2021, were now in January 2022 and I havent heard a word from him.

I reckon he has a WAY bigger hit on his hands than he realised. The world has been waiting for a light gun that works on LCD screens. I'm using mine on the projector, and it's fantastic so far.

Even though I have a sick VR setup and shooting is so fun in that, and I play paintball. I really want to get a pair of these for my cabinet.
They're fun, especially if you liked older shooters. The new VR stuff must be insane though. I've only tried VR once. I got all sweaty and had a headache haha.
Nice review. As ThatGamer already mentioned, the bezel packs are made by the community so kudos goes to them. The Sinden Wiki is also largely made by the community as well. If you have a 3d printer (or a friend who does), I would suggest printing off the trigger mod. Definitely gives you a faster shot.
Thats great to know. I love a good community that's always working together to make things better! I don't have a 3d printer, my wife wants one so maybe we'll get one soon.

Great video man. I have a Megacade arriving very soon and I had some gun4ir's installed on the cabinet, but I ordered some sinden's around 7 months ago also. I can't wait to really try both out, because I'll probably just keep both because my sinden's have recoil and my gun4ir's don't.

I really like the video, do you have any videos that you would recommend for setting up mame and things like that as well as videos that will help with the setup of the sinden light guns. ive had mine for a while now and I have been having trouble setting them up.
I've been slowly setting mine up the past month. I gotta say MAME and Teknoparrot have been the easiest and best to setup and play. Sega Model 3 is kind of a nightmare with the gun id's changing all the time. Sega Model 2 I got running good with 1 player so far. Gonna attempt Naomi arcade games and Ps2 games tonight hopefully with success. Great review man!
Can Teknoparrot and Sega Model 3 play the more graphics-heavy shooters? Is there any benefits to having both of those programs or just having one of them is enough?
@@elvampe13 they play completely different games, TP / Arcade loaders tend to play games that aren't emulated elsewhere or assist with running modern arcade dumps which are built for PC's.

Nice review. I just got my pair of Sindens a couple of weeks ago for my A1U modded cab, though I have only used them on the AM2 emulator (virtua cop series, HotD, Gunblade) and not on MAME yet. Super accurate and very worth the money to me. I've had a blast. I was nervous about the white border, but after a few seconds I'm immersed to the point that I really dont notice it. I have the recoils and while they are pretty cool, they are very loud and they actually take some decent energy from the USB port. I noticed if I fire too fast with recoil turned on, then the recoil mechanism slowly lessens to almost nothing until I stop shooting to give it a rest. Might be the port I am using. It's a USB on the backside of the same PC you use, hooked up to an extension port that I placed in the J panel. So yeah, I play with recoil on and off and definitely not at night. I dont think you are missing out on much tbh. It's just as fun without it. The pump action reload is probably the aspect I like the most.
Regarding the software startup, I think there's an option in the settings to open the software on system bootup. I havent tried it myself, but was this not sufficient for what you were trying to do (turn on one button to boot all) ?
I don't really notice the border much now either, which is great. I didn't know that about the recoil! That kind of worries me about burning out the USB ports or something lol. I found that setting but I read it as it starts the guns when you open the software. I could be wrong. My way works fine so far, dropping them into the startup folder has been good.

I'm already planning a light gun build next year as my project. Really torn on what guns to get but these are a strong contender. I may start working on the PC and image come January and go from there.
Hopefully they show up on time. I think they're getting better at delivering faster now that the pandemic is more manageable.

Great stuff! I received my Sindens several weeks ago and am in the process of building a HotD 4 cab to drop them into. Like you, I am a bit worried about how the experience becomes more complex with non-MAME emulators (ie Teknoparrot), but maybe as time goes on different bezel packs or work arounds will come to light that will hopefully make the experience more seamless across a variety of emulation platforms. Again, great review!
I found TeknoParrot one of the easiest systems to set up on my Sindens. Just make sure you have one of the newest releases and give it a shot.
I hope it goes smoothly. I've never tried getting guns working in Teknoparrot. I primarily use that emulator for racing games.
@@KillerArcadeGames TP added full lightgun support for all the shooting games a few months back. Most are as simple as going into the game input settings in TP and selecting your gun from a drop-down and then choosing which buttons do what. For most systems it really doesn't get any easier than that.
Word of advice, update to the newest version and use reshader. Took me hours of trial and error to get some games working. Also using multiple copies of the same emulator for different boarder sizes is helpful in teknoparrot.
Its a breeze to set up but when you want the game to start from say launchbox with an automatic boarder thats when it got problematic.
What if you put a white strip of tape on around the monitor ?
Will it work ? For a shooting cab? So you don’t have to mess with software white bezel ?

Looking at the inside I feel like you could take a spring loaded recoil like a nice one and just put all this stuff on an actual BB gun with recoil and it would still pretty much work the same.

Thanks DJ! That was a must for me. My first Arcade1Up mod used to take a good 2.5 minutes to boot and be ready. Now that I've switched to SSD based PCs and better software I'm down to 50-60 second boot-to-play times.

This was a very interesting video. I have been debating getting the sinden lightgun for awhile and I think this video sold me on it. I would love to play some house of the dead 1 and 2 with this.

Yeah... about 8 months later, I've got mine. So make sure you can be patient. I just received mine 5 days ago.
More importantly, I can't get mine to work right at all. So if you order, hopefully the software will be more intuitive, maybe they'll be some updates or something that can get you through loads of the hiccup we run into.
Trust me...this video was awesome, but I don't know anyone that's jumped right in and got em going, lol. Especially with the amount of light he has in his room and the marquee as well🤷🏽♂️...I'm mind blown that he was able to play.
Im rewatching this video right now because I finally found a sinden gun (with recoil) on ebay and it should arrive in 2 weeks. Watching this makes me hyped up more :) my Multicade is getting somewhere!
I hope you like them as much as I do. I should probably share my settings one day, I've heard some people are having trouble getting them to work like I did. I'm sure the environment and the TV brand will make it a little different for everyone though.

Got mine about a week ago. Still setting it up...Ive got it relatively stable, but still get jittery cursor. I've played with the settings for almost a week now with different borders, etc. According to other people, cursor should be smooth as silk. Removed everything from around tv (Sony 55") that could create artifacts, adjusted ambient lighting in room, adjusted tv settings (brightness, contrast) no dice. The only way I can get it to work half decent is to cut the exposure down to around -6. My next step will be to line the edges of the TV with white tape. If this doesnt work I'm done. Great review man
I had some jitter for a short time but I just have been lucky. It took about an hour or two of tinkering and I had it working perfectly.
@@KillerArcadeGames So about a week and a half in, and I finally nailed it. Pretty nuanced setting this up, but the payoff is amazing. I guess it has to be because of the large amounts of different possible monitor and TV manufacturers. My camera settings are pretty ridiculous, but I nailed it somehow. There is still a faint jitter, but is hardly noticeable now. I have had many different light guns and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that this is the king at present. Hats off to Andy for designing and developing this great piece of tech and I will definitely be backing future endeavors. Brilliant👍
@@sturkrazee288 Man...I'm about to give up on mine. The mouse jump is insane. In game ( area 51 Le s say, is like crazy. It's shaking like an earthquake...and will just fly up to the upper left corner. Crazy.

I think they made art packages for MAME that come with the white border. Make sure that you adjust the arts brightness accordingly. Had to almost make it dark for it to work, but it works great
I have the aimtrak light gun and it is very disappointing. After aiming you have to wait a little so the actual crosshair can catch up with your movement, it is lagging way too much and very unprecise. Is this different?
How did you get the offscreen reload to work in Area51? These guns have been a nightmare to setup.

There are bezel packs for M2 and M3. They basically use reshade . You’ll find them on the wiki

I don’t remember but judging by how it’s moving I assume it was the gun.
Are the Sinden light guns compatible with Atgames Legend Ultimate. It seems that they only work with pc arcade machines. Thanks for the video and I have to agree with you about the Aimtrac light guns and you have to go back and calibrate the gun in some games.
I don't know for sure..I tried searching but found info from a year ago saying it doesn't work. Maybe they've updated it, but I really don't know.

I want to say it will work but I just don't know for sure. I've never tried console emulation with these. It seems to act as a mouse cursor to the computer so as long as your emulator can use the mouse, it will probably work.
I played with the recoil one last weekend, felt it was a bit heavy and turned the recoil off. i would not regret it too much, not getting them.
I've been thinking about getting these and yeah, I kinda wanted the recoil but reading about how they aren't that great and lessen the more you use it in a row I think I may go away from those. Most of the games I'd want to play didn't have recoil guns anyway so it's not missing out on much.

I think it will but you might want to ask the Sinden people before buying.

@@KillerArcadeGames I’m planning on making repro and replacement gun shells as I actually have another project in mind but these will absolutely work well as custom shells for any lightgun system. It may be costly but hopefully everything goes well so I can send out some review samples :)
Silly question but cant you just use a line of code ini file linked to the games startup to activate the border. So turn on cabinet, game exe runs so does exe for border. Agree with setup of guns took a little while to dial it in at first but now absolutely sweet. Best buy for a long while.
I really don't know on that one. Maybe you could? I do like having the graphic borders though so using the packs is best for me in that case.
I play a decent amount of gun games since the 90s arcades to modern ones today. Heres my attempt to explain gangsta style (at least in my opinion). When playing light gun games for awhile, your arm gets tired, and it wants to twist towards the side facing the body (hence gangsta style). If you hold your arm out right now, and theres nothing supporting it, at some point, it wants to fall to the side cause perhaps its more natural in that position and less pain. I don't know, maybe its my carpel tunnel, lol, but that's what I think.
I've always used wiimotes, gun accessory and a dolphin bar for my pc and it works pretty well but the Siden Lightgun looks like the best option.

I have a pair of these with recoil. Also not a fan of the border, but you kinda just look past it after a while. The tracking is fantastic for sure. The one complaint I have is that the recoil intensity fades while holding the trigger on continuous firing. It starts off strong, then trickles. It's great having just one cord (the USB) to power both the gun & recoil, but the power supply is kind of weak. Perhaps Sinden will address this down the road with a software update. All in all, these guns are freakin awesome!
I’ve heard the recoil gets weak. That’s disappointing. I hope they can fix it.
Software update will not be able to fix this issue. The root cause is solely to do with usb only being 5v. The recoil has a large capacitor to store up a charge that gets quickly drained within a few quick trigger presses. You can adjust the auto recoil to a point that it will be a consistent feeling but it will be fairly weak and a bit slow. The only true fix would be to rewire the solenoid to run off of a different power source.
Was worried about input lag at least but these guns look like they perform really well
Gun games are so good. Still have Two namco guns with my ps2 and crt hooked up in my garage. And about 7 games...no recoil but still satisfying. Game on.

I don’t think it does currently. Someone else asked me and I’m fairly certain I read it’s not compatible at the moment.
How did you manage to get carnevil to work well? I’ve been having continuous sync issues when running it through MAME, my fps keeps dropping and the game stutters a lot. It’s the only game that causes me issues 😕
It sounds like your PC or processor isn’t powerful enough to emulate it. I have a Core i5 4590 running mine. It stutters occasionally but it’s smooth otherwise.

I'm still waiting for mine, according to the guy's last update, I technically should receive them b4 Christmas, not holding my breath 🤣. Question, I'm more than likely going to use this on my TV (Until I have a dedicated Arcade Mame Cabinet) ... the TV is Oled, do you think having that stationary white border may cause burn-in?
I don’t know on that. I can say my cabinet (which has a regular lcd) has run for probably 48+ hours collectively since I’ve installed these and the border has been on the whole time. I haven’t had any burn in yet. I assume the OLED was expensive, if you’re just using it for short gameplay sessions it’s probably fine. If you want to leave it running for hours and hours you might be better off buying a cheap smaller TV to get you by. They’re so cheap now days, I bought the TV I’m using for $94 during the last holiday deals season.
Great rewiew, i'm a Big fan of the sinden lightgun myself. I've manage to make It work for a lot of system PlayStation, atmiswave, Naomi, Mame, Sega model 1 and 2, even silent Hill arcade. But i don't manage to make carnevil run smoothly.

I don't use anything specific, I believe I'm using MAME 202 currently.

It’s 32 inches. I liked it because 4:3 games are around 25 inches of play area which is similar to arcade monitor sizes.
5:03 In the Cursor Offset tab, how come you left the TV diagonal size as 50"?
Good question. I'd have to go look on my cabinet to see if its still set like that. I recorded this so long ago, its possible I was still tweaking the settings at this stage. Either way, it works great to this day. The only issue I had was when I moved the cabinet to another spot in that room. It reflected some light from the window. I didn't bother fixing it since its about to be moved into another building in my back yard that's going to be my home arcade.
I think it may have been better if they used IR like the wii and it came with an IR sensor. Cause even though the wii was iffy when it came to motion controls, it was great at pointing. Not to mention that there's no white border
Just got my Sinden yesterday. Works great on the desktop, and I've played Duck Hunt in a large window on the NEStopia emulator.
I can't get any full screen application to recognise it, though, so nothing with MAME so far. I'll have to look for some setup guides to find out how I'd get fullscreen apps to work with it.
That’s an odd issue. I used the bezel pack for MAME with the border built in. But I haven’t used it on other emulators.

If you wanted to add some weight to the gun it looks like there's space inside to put a few mouse weights to give it a bit more heft.
I kind of like it light, long gameplay periods are easier without the gun being heavy. It’s cool there’s an option for it though.

No. I’ve seen some Chinese products that mostly use Aimtrak guns that will come with games.

You’d have to press the button on the gun to activate the white border.
I havent set mine up yet... how do I know if mine havent come with the exact same camera ID for both guns? Im modding mine and changing the color of the shell and buttons, etc but I dont want to close it back up only to find out I need a replacement part. How did you know yours was not correct?

Arcades usually uses less performance pcs, does the siden software require more power of cpu?
I haven't noticed a change in performance personally. There are two instances of Sinden software running at all times but the games still run smoothly.

As far as I know, these are only for PC.
Does this only work with MAME, or will it work with any program that normally uses the mouse for onscreen aiming?
It should work with most emulators. I can’t say for sure about the mouse based games.
@@KillerArcadeGames I would think that to the Sinden software, an emulator wouldn't be any different than a native game. When you run a lightgun game in most emulators, they use the mouse for aiming, usually with an onscreen crosshair, which is the same behavior as many native games.
This may be a dumb question, but what if you try to use it in a program that's not an emulator or game? Can you control the mouse and left-click on things by pulling the trigger? If that works, I would think that it would work in any program that uses mouse aiming and the left button to fire. If so, you'd even be able to play Touch The Dead in a Nintendo DS emulator, as a lightgun game. Or maybe even be able to (partially) control an FPS game with the gun. :)
Chris, great review! One thing I'll add is that the issues that Aimtrak users experience , is secluded to LCD displays only. I have mine on one of my arcades with a 25" CRT and I have no issues with lag , distance to screen etc. I do wish Ultimarc would improve them , but I don't believe there is a plan with other LCD gun options out there today. I ordered one June 18th and it was delivered today, August 8th. It was a recoil model, and I’m in the US.

@@thesimpat It’s great. It takes a lot of tinkering with the various emulators to get all the settings you need but it’s not super complicated. The recoil is incredible, it’s much more intense than I expected.

I finally got one and was able to make it work on Windows.

How did you automatically load up the border when the game start?
I use their bezel pack. When MAME boots a game it loads an art bezel that already has the white border attached to it. You can download their bezel pack on their Discord/Wiki.
hi @all, i have only one question about the CarnEvil wich is showen in the backround. It looks really clear. On my PC CarnEvil looks blurred - the written text is blurred. Everything looks blurred. I use Mame in the newest version and i have an nvidia rtx 270 Super. So i hope someone can tell me - what i'm doing rong with the video settings. or somebody can tell me how can i fix my terrible blurred picture. Thanks a lot

Got both of my guns in 4 days ago...after ordering in May of last year ( it's now February 5th 2022 👀 ).
They're completely un-usable at this point. Setup isn't bad...but...the cursor is just all over the screen. If you click the anti jitter button, it does nothing ( I was told in discord not to use it as it makes it worse🤦🏾♂️ ). The aiming recital in area 51 just flickers and flys up to the left corner...while it just keeps making a reload sound.
Trying to increase the screen brightness did nothing. Increase the camera contrast, saturation, etc didn't do anything to help the mouse/ aiming reticle having seizures. It's BAD.
Also, u can't get the boarder to pop up in MAME ( but during set-up, it's no problem to hit a button and it pops right up )...i have to use the provided boarder for each game. I was told to use openGL in MAME...and still nothing. I mean, I guess it's fine as long as each light gun game has the custom boarders they provide...but it's not like it matters anyway.
Not sure if the cameras are bad or what but both guns are completely un-usable.
And fyi...I've done test in a completely dark room with just my arcade cab/game running with the guns and a normal amount of light in the room test like you see in this video. Both are horrible results. I'm truly baffled that this you were able to do anything at all having that much light in the room🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️.
Hmm…I’m no expert at setting these up. I think I got lucky. Have you tried talking to them on the Sinden discord?
Have you had luck with Jurassic Park The Lost World on Sega M3? I've not had much luck with mine. I have a curved screen so perhaps part of the issue.
I haven't tried it yet but I can tell you never had any luck mapping the controls with my Aimtrak guns on that game. It always got stuck with the crosshairs in the center of the screen moving horizontally.
I got it working with one player but the aim is slightly off to the right which really isnt too much of a big deal. The main problem is every time you unplug guns or restart the pc it switches the gun ids so sometimes its reading as mouse 2 or mouse 3. I made a folder and made a copy of the config file so i have one for if its reading as mouse 1,2,or 3 so if one doesnt work i swap it out for another until it works. Hopefully there is a fix for that soon.

Mine still stutters a little. Usually just a quick stutter between "scenes" like before the camera moves and new enemies appear. I use MAME 236 with a new ROM file for that version. Otherwise, nothing else has changed. Heres the PC I use: ebay.to/3owKNai

Do you still wish your guns had the recoil? About to order these, and debating spending the extra money to get the recoil.
I do! Although I’ve heard the recoil gets weak after a lot of play. It comes back after it sits for a while but repeated use causes it to get wimpy. But I still wish I had it.
Why not an external, analog border then? Maybe LED tape behind an opaque border. Paper or white electrical tape would work, just for testing this out. That could be easily wired to "power-on" mode of a cab. There are some pretty fancy light-diffusing plastics out there too, so I imagine some people will go all out to create a "like-OEM" look. Also, I thought there was a way to tell the gun to look for a specified border color; not always white. So, maybe you could pick a color that both complimented your cab, while not confusing the gun.
That may work but it would literally always be on the screen. So when I exit the game I'm playing to select another it would cover the game selection screen. I'd also be a little worried about potentially upsetting my guns haha.
@@KillerArcadeGames True. But I suppose you could hide a toggle-switch somewhere on the cab, which turns it on/off. One advantage to the border being built into the cab, rather than on-screen, would be that it wouldn't be consuming valuable screen-realestate.
I think if you can afford it the recoil is a must, its like having a steering wheel with no ffb.

Anyone else experiencing a serious lag in tracking in mame? In windows when moving the cursor it is fairly accurate with only a slight lag where the mouse cursor will only be a little bit behind the gun sites. But in mame im experiencing up to an inch to two inches of lag. Honestly feels like I'm using a wii remote type of lag. Really noticable in any of the bbh games or other games where the target is moving.
I've never had that happen. Question, does your PC run the games smoothly? Emulation taxes the CPU quite a bit, if its an older PC its possible its being pushed too hard.
@@KillerArcadeGames everything runs smooth. The system is built for newer emulation so 9900kf, 16gb 3700mhz ram and a 1660ti. But in mame with the sindens I get a noticeable lag in tracking. If I do a quick twitch move the crosshair with snap to where im pointing but a steady sideways swing and the crosshair lags behind like there was a weight attached to it. At this point I'm wondering if this is a newer mame issue .335 or a sinden software issue v1.06. Will be updating to a clean mame install of .339 to just to verify the issue is not with my current mame install.
I want to build a Lethal Enforcers cabinet. Am highly technically proficient but don't even know where to begin. Familiar with emulators too but I need some guidance on this. Can anyone help get me going?

How are you getting the marquee to keep the game on it? When i do it it loses the marquee

It’s an actual marquee. Just a print with a light behind it.

No. It’s a modern USB device. If you have an old PS1 and a CRT you should just look for a GunCon.

Took less than 2 months for mine to arrive. Ordered June 18th and it was delivered today, August 8th.
Virtua cop, house of the dead, time crisis, point blank, police trainer, carnevil, Area 51 are some of my favorite gun games I’ve ever played. I just wish someone would release these some how on modern tvs and sell the guns with the games, but a remake of all of them with next gen graphics. The best and easiest way is vr for now. I don’t understand why some of they don’t just release the games on vr it least till they can figure out an a plug and play option for us modern consoles. Also, these games sold very well back then so someone give it a try? I’d love to buy a sinden but it’s too complicated for me and I can’t even figure out how to play roms.

Don't see any way to calibrate the gun in area 51. How did you do it?
There are no calibrate screens
Only the [OK] button works chris, the rest do not. and the crosshair can only be moved with the dpad!
If the d-pad is all that's working, maybe your MAME settings aren't assigned to the gun? I just checked my cab, in the Area 51 test menu (press F2 on the keyboard to get there) select "Gun Test" and that's where the calibration stuff is. Don't worry about the tracking screen that much, its going to look like its not working since the screen is all white. It will make it harder for the Sinden guns to see the border.
@@KillerArcadeGames F2 creates a new save state because I'm not using mame. I'm using retroarch. Not the old one with the blue screen - but the newer one. What can you suggest for me to do
