I love how this channel has become a rendez-vous point for fans of vintage french songs ! You're lucky Dereck, 80s french pop is a trove that keeps on giving... 😄
YES :)
*Retro not vintage. We have already a word for this thing!
@@SuperPlacido1 Je confirme ;)
Because the 80s had very uplifting songs. For example the 90s it was more (literally) dark material like Noir Desir.
...par contre , faut pas lui faire écouter " bo le lavabo " hein , on est d'accord 😁
That was a massive hit in Europe, it even made the top 5 in the UK charts, quite unusual for a French song.
Song was huge in eastern europe. Im polish and 29, and to this very day whenever we throw a party like my parents and uncles we hear voyage voyage 36 times. Its not a eastern european part until you hear voyage voyage, alphaville and modern talking over and over again 👀😂😂😂😂😂
Did not know that that's cool
Voyage, Voyage is VERY famous in Brazil! I used to listen to her a lot when I was a child, it fascinated me. She was responsible for taking me into the world of music.
Française et 25 ans et j'écoute les années 80 😉👋 🇨🇵
Moi aussi 25 ans c'est la musique parfaite pour rêver
Im from France and I love to see that American ppl enjoy our old french songs. Thats exciting !!
Me too :)
Same here 🤗🤗🤗
I remember ' apres toi' was a hit in UK sung by Vicki leandros ,it was a Eurovision song
And in the whole of USSR. We love that song.
This was huuuuuuge in Sweden
I'm just happy to see foreigners enjoying 80's French pop song !
It's making those gems alive once more !
I wouldn't say nonsensical lyrics ... French can be harder to translate to English. Lots of idiomatic expressions. The song makes sense when listening to it in French 🇫🇷
One of my favorite songs of the 80s and i still hear it until today! 👍❤️ Greetings from Germany
Europop is amazing Alphaville, Nena, Roxette, Peter Schilling, so uplifting
As a french guy , it's really interesting and usually fun to see your reactions to 80's french music, thanks a lot for your interest and your millenial point of view
If today I speak French and live in a francophone place, it’s thanks to this song. ♥️♥️♥️♥️
You should react to "Cargo de Nuit" by Axel Bauer.
Good idea
I have already advised several times but I am still waiting ... ^^
Il va péter les plombs ^^
we are suggesting it every time!
Totally
I travelled in about 50 countries and I heard this french song everywhere in Europe, in the most unlikely places ! This is one of the mot famous french song abroad (especially in European countries)
If you like french Pop you must see and listen: " Les demons de minuit" it's a famous french pop title
That's a famous one but not a classic. Corny pop song, ha ha! Worth a listen, tho'.
@@Nekoala I don't mind that song, but i was going to say another song by Images- Corps à corps
I think Pacifique's "Il y a toujours quelque part" will be a better choice since Derek likes female singers with a Madonna/Kylie vibe.
Oh non. Please.
OH NOOO! not "Les démons de minuit" please , au secours !
This is such a well known song here in Europe. Still love it!
Another 80’s gem you should absolutely check out is Murray Head’s ‘One Night in Bangkok’. You won’t believe it’s written by Benny and Björn from ABBA.
He must of heard of that one-as was a hit in the US billboard hot 100 etc.
Hmm, I think the song sounds VERY ABBA as far as the music goes- obviously the vocal of Murray Head is very different than Agnetha and Frida, but, the backing vocals sound very ABBA to me. The version of the song with the orchestral intro is really cool.
One Night In Bangkok is a classic & to me sounds VERY Abba-Ish.
There's performance where three abba members are singing background . czcams.com/video/TaD1BuigS3g/video.html
Wowzers. i had no clue Benny and Bjorn wrote that massive song...thank you for information... another prof they are among the greatests in music
I LOVE THIS. It has been one of my favourite '80s songs for almost two decades now!!!
Becoming fluent in French has definitely made me appreciate the song more, as well.
I could listening to French women just talking for hours it's such a beautiful spoken language. Listening to such a gifted singer in the same language is such a real pleasure.
Omg, i adore this song, one of my favs from the 80s, i nearly broke my finger i clicked so fast 💖💖💖💖
I'm waiting for "Étienne, Étienne" by Guesch Patti. Others have already proposed this song, I hope that some day he will react to it. I'm sure he's going to like the music and the music video (vidéo clip) too.
absolutely:) Etienne is one badass awesome song and Guesch Patti slayed it:)
@@NJtravels that's right. I'm sure he will react to this song soon (I hope so)
I like Joseph by George Moustaki.
@@resireg I don't know this song. I know "Le métèque" his most famous song, and "La philosophie". He wrote "milord" for Édith Piaf.
@@bistredehomard2123 George Moustaki was born jewish, but Joseph is a song about the romance between Joseph and Mary of Nazareth, parents of Jesus. The song gives a human face and behaviors to biblical characters.
A big hit in Brazil too ! We used to have a Lot of Fun on the dance floors in 80's
Oh my god i haven't heard this song in ages...forgot how good it was
no familly ball in France without this song back then
No family balls! Dans qurelle famille vis tu ?😂
@@krisskriss1223 Il parle sûrement des fêtes et des mariages
Non il parle des booms ou dans les boîtes de nuit où dans les années 80 ils passaient que des slow comme purple rain ou Jane de century
WOW WOW WOWEEE!
You chose one of the most beautiful songs of the 80s. This was in my primary school years in the good old 80s.
You reaction was spot on!!
A superb song. Love the synths and great vocals. It was released twice in the UK - in 1987 & 1988. Made no.5 in 1988.
And I believe they're pronounced 'Dezeerless'.
Aaaaaaaaa I love this song, I'm so glad I decided to follow this channel yesterday! Desireless is basically the French Annie Lennox. She's mostly remembered as a one-hit wonder, but I also really like another song from her called "John". Great new wave.
Voyage voyage! in 1987, my German host-parents took me to Spain for summer break and this song had become quite popular… I only recently discovered it again late last year. Once again, thank you, Dereck! You are on fire!
This doyenne Desireless (real name Clio) has always shared the Love, the spirituality, the wellbeing and the happiness in her music. She is an absolute illuminating Star in how she lives her life. Over four years ago I posted her song "Hari Om Ramakrishna" on my YT channel, a song I had always loved her lyrics to so much so that I made a careful translation myself of her french lyrics into english in that song's video description (I grew up in _La Belle France_ ). Lo and behold Clio absolutely blew me away by personally commenting under the video thanking me for the translation. Here in New Zealand when we say something or someone is "The bomb" then that is our utmost compliment given. Well, this lady is the absolute bomb. I just love her to pieces... 💣💙🤍💓
video link to this song here: czcams.com/video/fsq46FZePq8/video.html
Fun little trivia, the red haired guy at the 7:27 mark is David Caruso from CSI: Miami :D
yes a younger Horatio Caine :-D
Dear sweet Dereck : I'm sure you .have been a french guy in another life ! Your pronounciation in french is absolutly correct. Merci pour ce beau voyage dans les années 80 : good vibes and memories.
Do you know the group called "Visage" . Try to hear "fade to gray".
Another famous feminine artist from the 80s in Europe was Sandra, she's a german singer who sings in english, you should view her :
Songs : "Secret Land" / "Maria Magdalena" for instance !!!!
Enigm Tess Sandra is French and German! Double nationality because his father is French and his mother is German ...
Hell yes Sandra mad here.
Yes, ans notice that Sandra Can speak French as well. She also did backing vocals for Enigma.
Du kommst doch aus Deutschland ich spüre es
@@samueldevulder In fact, she barely speaks it. She said in interviews that she understands it pretty well, because she took French at school and she visited her grandparents in France when she was a kid, but at home her French father mostly spoke German.
Hi Dereck, all the album was quite good, I still have it, she reminds you blondy because of heart of glass, I think. Now, you have to listen to Guesch Patti ETIENNE, so good as well.
Эта песня моего детства, она звучала из каждого холодильника и утюга в 80-е в СССР в моем родном Новосибирске! Хит на все времена!!!!
да, я слышал что эта песня была популярна в россии. правда?
@@cmolodiets really
This song was huge in England at the time. I appreciate your detailed analysis and thoughtful review!
I remember buying this record,
I never understood the words apart from voyage voyage.
Ive never wanted to know,
Love it as much today😘
Песня на все века))))
This song was number 1 in all over Europe, especially Spain.
This song was played over and over again in radio stations in Spain.
Later this song was international and thanks to this song, people are willing to learn French.
I recommend you other old French songs to react : "Les demons de minuit" 1987 by Paroles, " Boule de Flipper" 1986 by Corynne Charby and " Aviateur" 1988 by Verónique Jeanut.
Please react to Spanish songs.
Spain had synth pop in the 80's too.
Mecano was a very good band.. "la luna" "a mujer con a mujer"
"Vuelta, vuelta" ?
Si te apellidas Torroja… 😅 me suena de algo que rima con “me la agarras con la mano” 😂🤣
How amazing is that?!! I've been playing this song almost daily for the past 2 weeks 💗💗 It tugs my heart. I have the 12" remix which was done by PWL who are famous for the producers Stock Aitken Waterman
I love that you react to all this 80s french song!! if you watch carefully at 7:26 you can see David Caruso 😂😂
1989? I was in Paris over the 1986/1987 New Year time and heard this song numerous times on the radio - and loved the synths and the voice.
Steve Carroll Yes it's 1986 ...
Yes! He confused with the release of the album "François" in 1989 and "Voyage, Voyage" was included in it and it's a song released in December 1986.
Un des plus grands artistes français: Alain Bashung! "Osez Josephine, clip mémorable!
La chanson est super et le clip est tout simplement 😍
SO BEAUTIFUL! SO ELEGANT!
One of my favourite songs of all my Life
Traveling at night in my authentic french Peugeot 407 Coupé listening this song is really amazing
I believe this one of the best songs of the 80's. Fealt this way the first time I heard it a few years ago. Lyrically, she's talking about a voyage around the world. The song should be on the radio. People will continue to find it.
Cette chanson a une belle mélodie et un bon arrangement instrumental, qui lui donne toute sa force.
*Dereck, tu sais apprécier les bonnes choses !*
Best of the best and the lyrics are perfect 👌🏼 this song is a diamond
Such a big hit in the 80's! Love the fact that I do own both the original cd-single and the Stock-Aitken-Waterman-remix-singles on cd.
Welcome in France Dereck, I think you could look at Jeanne Mas (the Mylene Farmer's singer rival of the 80's), her fisrt song "Toute première fois" , you'll hallucinate (music, voice and look)
People would used to pit them against each other.
Et en rouge et noir aussi
I remember having to learn this at school in our French lessons lol, and I still know ALL the words 😂
Hi Derek, I can see some other people already suggested Jeanne Mas "Toute première fois". Typical song of the 80's. "Le Vent nous portera" with its melancholic vibe from Noir Désir is also a classic, even if it is more of a ballad.
Johny johny
Yes! In first " Toute Première Fois" ( Very First Time) in 1984 : czcams.com/video/wMuOLH-oQKs/video.html and then " Johnny Johnny" in 1985, her FIRST VIDEO and in black & white! ☺
She is a friend of mine, I will send her your video
C'est moi qui lui ai recommandé hihihi :)
@@jeremie2020 Me too, for a long time! ☺
That song is still quite popular in easy listening FM radios in Brazil
@@resireg ;)
Thank her for such a beautiful song💖
this song is in everyone's memories and even today when you hear it, it takes you! desireless is a great artist who subsequently chose to remain confidential. Her voice is still great and her songs are good. his very famous second song is very good too!
Dereck you will love jeanne mas
Oh Oui Derek, réagit à Jeanne Mas "En rouge et noir" ça devrait te plaire !
@@isabellemorel5809 I think her frist SMASH HIT in 1984 is BETTER before : czcams.com/video/wMuOLH-oQKs/video.html and then " En Rouge Et Noir".
I remember this classic song, very bit hit in my homeland The UK.
I recommend "Envole-moi" or "il suffira d'un signe" by Jean-Jacques Goldman, another French superstar as mysterious and successfull as Mylene Farmer throughout time... So much poetry and a mastermind of music !!
JJG is always a good choice. Problem with JJG: he wrotre too much good stuff, and not much of it has decent engl translations, lol.

You should try La Mano Negra "King Kong five", "out of time man " or " pas assez de toi "
Did you see "partenaire particulier" and "nuit de folie" ? 🇫🇷 French songs 80's too, and sounds are 👌too ❤️ !
I knew "voyages, voyages", "les démons de minuit" (I'm early 40 now 😁) ...
I think you'll like them 😁 hello from France 🇫🇷 ✌️
Thanks to pay a tribute to my favourite singer woman, with this amazing, gorgeous song which deals with love and spirituality ! Regarding for her haircut, ( it was a suggestion from his boyfriend François to cut them like this ), it was in accordance with the lyrics and her personalité ... :)
With a french touch specific eighties ... For the lyrics and music, the great JM Rivat and his musicians, for the clothes, we can precise that she was a fashion designer for many years ...
For @Dereck Reacts
Very surprising to see that our music is appreciated. A very good thing !
The video clip has been made by Bettina Rheims, a very famous french photographer, and in this clip you can see David Caruso (Miami Experts) when he was not already famous....
Rewatched this reaction, one of the best you did. Love your interpretation.
Claudie( Desireless)goes on singing and published non commercial cds during those last years. She is a VERY GOOD singer even if she is around 67/ 68 years old now...
Discover all her hits and non famous songs...Perfect, one among the best singers !
Superbes chanson
Bravo à vous
Bisous de la France
We were waiting for this one! 😉 So 80's but also so related to a time of mass unemployment in France as well as so many people dying from Aids, as you really needed to voyage voyage in your head to forget the daily reality... Another iconic song of that time (but no synths sorry 😂) is from the ex-Mrs Johnny Depp, aka Vanessa Paradis with "Joe le taxi"
Video directed by french photographer Bettina Rheims... she made the official portrait of late french president Jacques Chirac, and made a photo session with ... Madonna in 1994 ;)
Hello Dereck !
Can you react to songs of Daniel Balavoine like " S.O.S d'un terrien en détresse " or " Un peu plus près des étoiles " by the band " Gold " please ? Thank fo reading this message.
"Tous les cris les SOS" is also my very first choice from Daniel. A song at the same time emotional, deep, catchy and interesting on the arangements.
i so love this song..thank you for your reactions..even though im only 31 i grew up with these songs..also ABBA, Modern Talking, Boney M etc
Thank you so much Dereck for your job. You will be very happy to comment, do you know the best, Jean Jacques Goldman, "Envole moi" live au zénith de Lille (5.44'') 😉
Thank you so much for reaction to this. Had hoped you would.
Wow, I didn't know this song was in french.. In all over Latin America, this song was a Huge Huge hit in Spanish, called, "Vuela Vuela" by a boy band called Magneto in the 90s..Wow.. enjoying your videos.
You R the best Dereck! Love to hear your reactions on French pop icons 😍👍🏼!
You will love "Johnny Johnny" from Jeanne Mas. A lot of synth
And "en rouge et noir" 😉

@@sissithrt1462 Yes I agree with you and he should react on this one IN FIRST! ☺
J'adore Jeanne maas
"Johnny Johnny" ma préférée ❤️
I always thought voyage was such a hard word to say twice!
Voyage, Voyage was an International hit between 1986 and 1988 and included on the 1989 debut album. I have this on 45.
Purchased it in France when it was on the charts.
5 weeks at no.1 in germany 1987 ( went gold here), most successfull song of the year 1987 in Switzerland. they are still playing it lots of times on german radio. one of only 3 songs in french who made it to no.1 in germany ( beside Ella, elle l´la by France Gall and Alors on dance by belgium singer Stromae.)
It was number one in Germany in summer 1987. She performed it on the IFA in Berlin.
@@andimusicjunkie3990 you´re right, i corrected it. it was released in dec.1986.
In Brazil, it still playnon the radio. Together witg Jean Michel Jarre's 4th rendez vous
This song is so famous in my country that everybody dances it in parties. 😄👍
Je suis la première vue! Youpi! Hello tout le monde! 🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷
Hello Sun Sun...a good french song this one. Dereck has been exploring some good french songs here lately.
Now we want some Vanessa Paradis, Carla Bruni, Jean Michel Jarre
@@resireg ok for Vanessa Paradis and Jarre but why Carla Bruni!?

The best reactions (as an 80s and 90s child)
Hello Dereck, how are you? There is something I really love with your Patreon requests, it's the diversity of the suggestions. they're rather old and new songs, English and foreign songs, and also different tones of the songs. Music being the expression of emotions, it is natural to have joyful, but also sad songs/ songs that are hard to hear.
Thank you so much for what you do!
Love your reaction, yo make me laugh when you're in XD.
80's and 90's french music has a lot of very good songs in all music styles.
Essa música me emociona
Que Voz linda !
Que Letra linda !
Que Idioma lindo !
Que Cantora linda !
Best selling single of the year 1987 in 🇩🇪. Et Jamais ne revient... so good
Mexican Boy Band MAGNETO did the spanish cover "VUELA VUELA" and it was a huge hit in latin america, you should check it out
Thank you Dereck. This superb song was like timeless song in Europe. Close your eyes and imagine you're driving romantic France on the Peage highway system in a Renault Alpine French sportcar to the most beautiful beaches with huge waves, nice people, nice food and wines...
I LOVE that you found this song.... I thought it was 87 i'm sure I was 15 at the time. I had to go to an import cassette tape store in Vancouver's Chinatown to find this Euro music, it was fun! Hopefully you have checked out Fancy and Modern Talking?
Take care cutie!
Fantastic song !!
@Dereck very good your reaction to this video. This song was very successful here in Brazil and it was in the top 12 charts for almost a year. Even today in some ballads it still plays and people just go crazy dancing. I love the video and I'll be waiting for you to react to Kylie Minogue act 4 of the fever tour. Thanks a lot for your videos. It has helped me a lot in this quarantine. I'm recovering from covid19 and your videos brighten my days. A big hug here from Brazil.
J'adore ses réactions sur les chansons françaises 80'.😄
As soon as this popped up, I absolutely knew you would love this.
6:40 -ish: you got it. That's exactly what it means... This mental journey that's just as real as the real voyage, either geographically or emotionally. (re. "in the infinite space of love"). "Travel, and don't ever come back" (which is also what travel is about = even when you're back, you're not 100% back. Some of your mind will always be over there...)
Hello Dereck and thank you very much for your new react video, "Travel Travel" lol! You speak French very well. The Best To You. 🍀💐🌈🌠
