Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at for the first time an 80s oddity that won my ears over with Les Rita Mitsouko "Marcia Baïla." Incredible voice delivery and use of sound, with this dance-oriented pop funk beat. See what I have to say about a new favorite of mine.

Catherine Ringer is just amazing! ... Sadly her husband Fred Chichin passed away in 2007 .. Marcia Baïla, sung with a forced Spanish accent, was a tribute to Marcia Moretto, an Argentinian dancer who died of cancer in the early 80s, with whom Catherine took lessons in the 70s.

It's just fantastic, evily good, gets you on with the music that you end up not only dancing it but feeling it (from the start to be honest). Les Ritas were iconic and simply Cool with a big C. Very arty and creative in whatever they do. " When your mouuuth is immeeeeeense When you smiiiiiiile And when you lauuuuuuugh, I smiiiiile with youuuuuu, You so much love liiiiiife, What's this COLD THAT WE FEEL IN YOU ? It's DEATH that killed you Mathias, It's DEATH that consumed you Mathias, It's cancer You took under your arm, Now you're in DUST, in DUST, Death is like an impossible thing, Even with you who's strong like a rocket, Even you who IS LIFE MARCIA, IT's DEATH WHO TOOK YOU AWAAAYYYYY AYYYY AYY AYY AY...." Hi Dereck! Thank you for reacting again on French song (You you start to love France and French patrimony and culture, all you need to do is learn French!^^), the Rita Mitsouko ( a couple for life and on stage, Fred Chichin died in 2007 and Catherine Ringer the female singer) an unforgettable band (crazy and atypical!) especially in 80's and 90's.
This song is a SMASH HIT in 1985, a tribute to their friend Marcia Moretto, dancer and model died of cancer in May 1983.
It's a catchy and poppy song despite a serious subject. They often hide behind a joyful melody lyrics with tragic themes, like the agony of their friend Marcia Moretto.
The video of the song, directed by Philippe Gautier, in which Catherine Ringer appears with a corset dress by Jean-Paul Gaultier which will become emblematic, and showing sets by Free Figuration artists (Di Rosa, Mosner, Combas), will become a reference1
Do you know? : The name “Rita Mitsouko” is chosen for its beauty and international sound: it associates the name of stripper Rita Renoir with that of the Mitsouko perfume by Guerlain.
Their best album is "The No Comprendo" with the SMASH HIT "Andy" (Hey Andy.. with lots of guitars and trumpets, you will like it!!^^ : czcams.com/video/Ae-tP-rFJl0/video.html), " C'Est Comme Ca" (It'S Like That :czcams.com/video/fGZRVGlGZ6A/video.html ) end of 1986 and beginning 1987 with lots of synths and guitars (video directed by Jean-Baptiste Mondino, worked with MADONNA in 1986-1987 on "Open Your Heart" video), "Le Petit Train" in 1988 (The Little Train (like "Marcia Baila", tragic theme on the deportation of Jews to Nazi concentration camps :czcams.com/video/Pn5X4_JCJgg/video.html ).
They worked in 1988 on their new album "Robert" with an american band The Sparks with the Smash Hit "Singing In The Shower" (My favorite one!!! Very 80's with synths, drums, guitars too : czcams.com/video/T6gwIgsHMis/video.html).
During all these years, the duo kept a great originality, on record as on stage, without taking themselves seriously, and explored various musical currents, taking an interest in funk, new wave, hip-hop or music. jazz.
PS : In 1982, they recorded a song in English: "Don't Forget The Nite" ( czcams.com/video/pfdnhY7Ax0Q/video.html).
Don't forget to react on another France Gall (Débranche : Unplug in March 1984, Babacar in 1987, Evidemment in 1988).
There was also another French band called NIAGARA (with Muriel "Moreno" Laporte and Daniel Chenevez) from 1985 to 1994: Tchiki Boum in 1985 (mexican/cuban ambiance, it's for you^^: very 80's in the song and especially in VIDEO! Synths, drums, etc...), L'Amour A La Plage (Love On The Beach) and Je Dois 'En aller in 1986, Quand La Ville Dort in 1987 (New Version for 7" release and last single of their first album released in 1986) and a rock turn in 1990with "Religion" album: J'Ai Vu and Pendant Que Les Champs Brûlent. Videos are very aesthetics!
They make their videos themselves! You should react on 'em! Well worth a look!!!
    Thanks lovely Dereck!

So many elements to hear, watch, enjoy !
And the statement : "And death, it's like an impossible thing" that makes you have a look (again) at the absurdity of life, it was striking (makes you feel hopeless and makes you wanna live so much !) ....
Later, after Fred's death, it took another added sense.... And it takes more added sense when you have lost a person you loved...

Sûr j'ai également eu la chance de voir les Ritas en concert. Un souvenir impérissable.

all the strangeness of the music, the dance and the song, only emphasizes the lyrics. Indeed, she speaks of Marcia saying: "you love life so much" then screams "but it is death that murdered you, it is the cancer that you took under your arm ..". At the time, this song made you shiver as much as dance .... it's a masterpiece.
