Yep another good topic to cover for sure and a well done vid! Man i sure know all about them front tire blues.. .. im wrestling with mine right now but think i bout got it whipped. Do you put heavy grease in that axel when you out it back in or just WD40?
I like to clean the axle with a wire wheel, even grind off any rust build up until smooth again then axle grease before I reinstall it. Thanks for watching

needed this yesterday smh i got a 1983 big red and have never struggled this much to change a tire thanks buildZ!
1984 200 S here.
Got the tire off. Then kept going and eventually got all the busted up brake pad out and then the brake "hub" finally came off!
So I can't get the axle out... but it's spinning freely.
Do I get it out no mater what? Or do I just do the brakes and put it together?
The way you went through this, your tone, and the music... it was more of a zen experience... and that doesn't happen to me.

I got the Haynes shop manual for working on those and I got a 200 s it runs perfect all original except for one tire and I got to replace the other two tires whenever I get around to it
just bought my first ATC, Love your videos ! you do a Fantastic job of explaining things. Mine is supposed to be a 1983 200

Great video and collection! I myself am currently struggling with a 85 250sx front wheel axle that will not budge. After having it soak in penetrating oil for weeks and heating the forks up as much as I am comfortable with still nothing. Any other advice you could give to a 3 wheeler nubbie? (Also its not left hand thread right?)
Correct not left hand thread. So I can assume you have the threaded fork and the axle and hub left. You have removed the the wheel and tire and the clamping fork. Take the threaded fork and place it horizontally in a vise, the the axle sticking up. Now heat the fork where its threaded and the axle goes in. Get it good and hot and put a socket and breaker bar on the axle nut, now add another 3 to 4 ft. Piece of pipe to the breaker bar. While the fork area is hot. Unbolt it.
I was a little concerned about the front end on my 200 until you said "this is the preferred setup is the 185 style" that's exactly what a previous owner did. I have a 185 style fork on my 200. My axle does not some all the way through to the outside of the right side fork though so I imagine it's the wrong axle in there.

Nice, the Original 250r, go to www.partszilla.com and look at the part diagrams, or download the free manual for that machine. Then check out ebay and the online groups to source the parts you need.

I got an es with an s front end and the axel wasn't froze in the fork like I was expecting but the brake and the center tube was stuck to the axel and I had to take the clamp off mine my spacer was made on the axel but lucky for me it was only 3 nuts because someone else snapped one of the studs off for me 🙃
Hi derby dog, yes the S front is a common swap, they made a ton of S's so they are easier to find. It's a good swap, that front end is rebuild able. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve got a 83 200 with the threaded axle and I’ve got everything off with heat and penetrating oil but the spacer or collar is rusted to the axle and I’m wondering if I should soak the whole thing in penetrate then throw it in the oven idk I have no idea what to do from here.
That is one of those jobs where you do everything you can. Id soak it in a pan of PB blaster for 2 day, completely submerged. Then i would put it in a press and hope for the best, the problem is you cant really heat just the spacer. Good luck.
where did you get the seals to redo your forks I have the same suspension and I'm trying to find seals online for that specific style of suspension forks and I can't find it anywhere
Nobody carries those internal, thats why i welded them solid.
Do you know where the crank case breather tube Ts off too? I know one line rides right down the frame. The other side of the T was disconnected and can’t seem to find where it’s routes to.

I would use some blue locktight on the outer nuts.
Hi, I have a 1983 honda 185s but when I ride it it goes to the right hard when I get a decent speed on it would you know what could it be?
Check the rear tire pressure, must be the same. Also make sure your front wheel is centererd and the spacers arent back wards, also make sure the chain adjusters are the same and the rear axle is square to the chassis. That should fix it.
I have a 1984 200es big red and the front axle is frozen to the brake assembly. The outer part that holds the brake shoes, and i can’t get them to separate at all.
Any advice ?
Hydraulic press, would be best, keep the axle nut on it, so not to mess up the threads

Hi Anthony, i have never worked on a tri moto, im sure its simular. Go to partzilla.com and look at the exploded parts view of the front wheel and brake, that will answer your questions.

As a rule I believe 1983 was the last year for two piece wheels. Look in the wheel. It you see 8 bolts then its 2 piece. If you see 4 its 1 piece. Thanks for watching and subscribing

I'm doing a crazy project making a custom three wheeler and I have 185 front fork and wheel and just bought a 200 front fork and wheel seeing how it had suspension not realizing the axel was completely different do you think I'd be able to take the 200 axel and put it inside the 185 wheel
I believe the 200 axle is longer. It's been awhile since I had a 200, I cant be certian.
I might be mistaken I'm taking the axel out of the 185s so the second 3 wheeler you talked about in the video my bad
Yes, the bearings are the same if I remember correctly for the 185s and atc200, so the axle should fit size wise, but the atc200 axle is longer than the 185s. Might just have to try it and see.

That axle should only be threaded in the lower fork, the brake housing is not thread and is retained by a casting in the fork. Sound like the axle is frozen in the hub, there is a metal pipe inside the hub. You will need to have it pressed out. Then clean the axle, wire wheel or lightly sand all the rust off the axle. The lube the axle and reinstall.
What do I need to get so I can put a 250 front hub on the 200e so I can run a 4-110 12inch front wheel
I'm guessing you mean a 250es or 250sx front hub, Because the axle and fork spacing are not the same. I would say, just purchase an adapter from swamp outlaw on FaceBook. you can convert to 4x110 bolt pattern.
I've been trying for a week to get the axle out of my 85 250es. What a nightmare. Tried all I can think of. Anyone else ha e a source for a new or used axle and hub. That's not priced the same as a trip on bezos' rocket.
The 300 4x4 guys bought up all the 250es rears. There ot there but that why the cost is high. You might want to buy a parts machine, then you woul have a rear and other parts to offset the cost

Hey Darren, I do not have a factory correct 185s in the shop, sorry. Google images, or contact blue line graphics they have the correct decals and layout for each bike. Thanks for watching

What about the back axle nut on a big red 200 I can't get it off tried soaking it with wd 40 and other things
Hi Jamie, Try this, have the machine sitting on the ground with the tires on it, soak the nut in PB Blaster, put a pipe wrench holding the axle so that the handle make contact with the ground, take another pipe wrench put it on the nut and a 4ft piece of pipe over the handle, it will take a few tries to get the leverage correct, I have had to do this this way several time. If you have a torch you can Heat the nut also, not the axle, the axle is tempered. REPEAT do not heat the axle. Thanks for watching and subscribing to the channel

No, you can just lay the housing to the side.

That spacer that can be replaced with a speedometer, how long is that spacer??

So any 185s triple trees and forks will swap to a ‘83 200e?
200m is better. The 185s will work but you will end up with an 8 inch wheel and tire, different lug pattwrn, and would need handlebar risers to clear the tank
Ok.. I read 200m would work.. now that 185s will as well make me want to do this swap even more if I can find everything..
Any way to make a 9x8 aluminum wheel work on these 200e?
@@michaelsimpson9900 front would need the correct offset. Douglas makes one. For the rear offset can be non centered

Some of the hardware is sold separately through partzilla, ebay and even amazon. The lever, clips and springs best best Is ebay or one of the 3 wheeler forums.
@@mrcbuilds thanks for the reply. Bought my first 3 wheeler a 1984 es200 all original components far as I can tell even the spark plug. Going through it and noticed the hand break line doubled up on the rear break with the foot break line. Is this common? No break lines are going to the front break hub both are going to the rear. The hardware all looks original as well. I’m going to run a new line to the front but I thought it was odd it was like that. Any insight?
@@jacobwheeler802 LH lever goes to front wheel. RH lever goes to upper hole on rear brake mount, RF goes to lower rear brake mount hole.

A 2 ft piece of pipe does the job
Heat and leverage go a long way with old rusty parts
