    With homeschooling, you don’t have to deal with an education consultant’s ideology. Children have such a richer educational experience at home. I learn so much from these videos.

    I love this, my daughter is having a hard time with math in the good and the beautiful and I think it’s because of all the beauty and “fluff.” She sounds a lot like how your son started, I’m interested in trying this curriculum and see if I can get her to enjoy it a little more. Which means I’ll enjoy it more. 😆

    My husband and I have decided to homeschool our two kids (6th and 8th). The both were struggling in math and I don’t get the common core way. While we’ve been home this summer I’ve been teaching them the old school math and they like it. The only problem is I have to go all the way back to the beginning. I’m excited about this curriculum and I know they will be caught up in time. Thank you for this video.

I saw someone mention this curriculum so I started looking for reviews and found this video. My daughter struggles so much in math. It is the one subject that causes my daughter and I to argue. Like you, I want our relationship intact when she is done. I have looked at some examples of this online and I think this may help her as well. Thank you for sharing your experience with Algebra.

    I'm homeschooling a 7th grader who was very much in the same boat. I heard about learn math fast but he kinda needs the color in order to feel interested. So we went with TGTB math4 in order to get him to have confidence in math. Because he had the same "I'm just bad at math" mentality but we're now over half way through the book and he no longer hates math because he has that confidence of, "no wait, I can do math"

    Online Virtual Learning was horrible for my 3rd grader. She needs hands on with pencil and paper. She has Add and dyslexia...Math has been an issue at school for the past year. She does a lot of steps in her head and could not figure out WHY she had to do 20 steps to get the same answer. I am so happy I pulled her out and decided to homeschool due to covid..she doesn't want to go back, she says she has learned more at home. We've done Abeka Math the past year. I like it because it is spiral and keeps her on her toes, she hates it because when she gets it she gets it and is ready to move on. I'm going to get her this system to give her more confidence. Thanks for an awesome review.

    My son (13yrs old next month) has dysgraphia and is possibly on the Autism spectrum. Online math is not working because he zones out during lessons and hates the voices on curriculum like Teaching Textbooks. We did an ACE diagnostic test and it shows missed concepts in 3rd & 4th grade then he would start at 5th grade level. He absolutely despised working on things that he already knows so if I start this curriculum at Level 1, would we be ok to skip some sections? Or should I start at level 2?

    • @thequarteracre4914
      @thequarteracre4914  Před 2 lety +2

      I'd start at level one, you can do the chapter test to prove he can do it. If he passes praise him & move on, if he scores low you can go back and do the chapter.

    Common core is stupid! Good for you!
    So, those conceptual ideas, the drawing the circles, should only be used to introduce the concept- as the abstract-then be related and transitioned into the abstract-the numbers and symbols. Sad to hear it’s being used wrong, and messing up so many kids! Thank you!

    I don't know all my multiplication facts sadly . I am looking at adding in times tales virtually or good and beautiful musical multiplication with beast academy for my son . I puller him two months ago end of fifth grade . He basically needs to go back to basics to third grade .

    • @thequarteracre4914
      @thequarteracre4914  Před 3 lety

      That was my son. Musical Multiplication helped. Honestly though I had the goal of giving him enough multiplication knowledge that he could narrow things down. He knows his 2' and his 3's, he knows the fives trick and the nines trick and he knows the tens and eleven tricks. So when he approaches some that he doesn't know he will start with is it times is it *2 is it * 5 is it * 9 and see where it falls in between. It's not a perfect system but it's such an improvement from where we were.

    Just a question, how much would you do a day? Is it a “lesson” a day type of thing?

    • @thequarteracre4914
      @thequarteracre4914  Před rokem +2

      It really depends on your student and where you are at and how comfortable they are with the material. In the beginning we could do a lesson or two or sometimes three a day, but as we've gone on sometimes one lesson will take us multiple days. I always have my student read the chapter, attempt the worksheet on their own, and if they score a c or better they may move on to the next lesson if they do not score a c or better then we redo the worksheet together before we move on.

  • @Crochetedpossum
    @Crochetedpossum Před 2 lety

    • @thequarteracre4914
      @thequarteracre4914  Před 2 lety +1

      So I go by percentages. If there are 15 problems on a page and he gets 12 right I calculate the percentage and then in a is 90% or above a b is 80% to 89% the sea is 70 to 79% and then D is 60% or below down to 50%. If he gets anything lower than a c he has to redo all the problems that he missed.

Now that he is doing a charter High School at home program he has to do some testing and the testing that he did do showed leaps and bounds improvements over where he was it shows that he's still a little bit behind in math but I believe that that is because the test is all done on a computer and he is a paper and pencil kind of guy.
