  • Some doctors are telling their patients to get an Apple Watch, which is not a medical device, to help diagnose and manage certain health conditions, as researchers look into how to use the devices for monitoring heart disease and post-surgery recovery, according to the Wall Street Journal. Dr. Rod Passman, professor of medicine at Northwestern Medicine, joined CBS News to talk about some of the possible benefits.

      My wife’s job DOES provide a discount for tracking her Apple Watch activity rings. Saves us hundreds PER YEAR. Paid for itself. Other watches didn’t “qualify”

      I'm saying... apple and devices alike are missing an opportunity. Sales would increase if insurance paid some as a monitor device, I mean don't go crazy, but if it's something like a dr approved it for a medical data tracker for certain patient, like ppl with arrhythmia, then ppl who don't normally get it (older non-tech ppl) would. And it would be good to know if their hear beat drops randomly.

    It actually saved my best friend’s life twice. She has a heart condition. She would’ve been dead if she didn’t use it. Her dad is a cardiologist. Even he recommends it.

      Oura ring is also a good non-apple option.

      I love my Apple Watch Ultra 2, but if there are not one but TWO TIMES where your best friend would have died without an Apple Watch, she needs to find a better solution. I personally wouldn't want to have to rely on something that's also counting my steps and telling me about text messages and gps and heart rate and million other things to be the thing that keeps me alive. Your friend needs a true medical device.

    Yoga / stretching improves balance and flexibility. This is a good place to start before adding weight training.
    Move on to riding a bicycle which helps improve aerobic capacity and balance.
    As these improve add some form of weight / resistance training once or twice a week.
    The key is to improve balance, flexibility, cardio capacity, and strength in a gradual manner without any injury which will set you back and add frustration.
    Quality of life is key. You need balance, flexibility, cardio fitness and strength. Train to improve without injury.

    Daily exercise is key to as healthy life. Ride a bicycle to school, work or for fun.
    Riding a bicycle is a great way to exercise. Ebikes are bringing many older adults back to cycling.
    Cities need to do more to encourage people to ride bicycles. Safe protected bike lanes and trails are needed so adults and children can ride safely. Speak up for bicycles in your community. Bicycles make life and cities better. Ask your local transportation planner and elected officials to support more protected bike lanes and trails. Children should be riding a bicycle to school and not be driven in a minivan. Be healthier and happier. Ride a bicycle regularly.
    Make a bicycle your transportation option for short distance travel.

    I think they should do something for people who need heart transplants. Right? When that be a good idea? Like let’s say if you need a heart transplant and you may may or are getting put on the list to get a heart transplant and then you may soon get a heart transplant and then if it detects symptoms of heart failure or something that happens, and then you need to go to the hospital because of the heart failure symptoms resulting in the need for a new heart and it can give you an alert, and even alert love ones in the house if you’re afraid to or don’t want to or can’t tell the person.and they can take them to the hospital or it can call 911 and send medics out to take the person to the hospital.

    • @Sashazur
      @Sashazur Před měsícem +1

      If you need a heart transplant you aren’t going to be out walking around waiting for your watch to tell you “it’s time” - you will be in the hospital already.

    I have an Apple Watch Ultra 2. It's great. I love it. I WOULDN'T use it, IN ANY WAY, for anything where my life is on the line. Sure, we've heard of the stories where someone was alerted to having an erratic heart beat or even a heart attack and wouldn't have known it otherwise. But you simply can't rely on a device that's also getting text messages and counting steps and telling you your heart rate and is a GPS and answering phone calls. One device that does a million things isn't going to be perfect at just one thing. If my life is on the line, I want a device designed SPECIFICALLY for that one thing.
