    ℹ️ About the episode:
    We intentionally waited before doing a tour and review of our 2017 Airstream Flying Cloud 30' Bunk. We did this for a few reasons... First, we were too much love with the shiny tin can and knew we had to experience some drawbacks from actually living in it to provide a helpful review. Secondly, what makes an RV tour helpful, regardless if it's a Travel Trailer, 5th wheel or motorhome, is seeing how we actually live in the space and how everything is organized. The trending comment when we first purchased the Airstream was, "How are you going to go full-time in that? And where is everything going to go?!?" Are the rumors true that Airstreams don't have any storage? Watch the video and you can decide...

    **SAFETY FEEDBACK**
    Hi Mark & Trish, really loved the video. (My favorite part was Mark's show & tell!) I'll get straight to the point: Bicycle helmets are made of various types of foam and are designed to absorb the impact, should you crash, and protect your noggins. They are not re-moldable. If you crash and they are damaged, they are supposed to be replaced (i.e., they are not reusable.) That said, PLEASE protect your helmets so that they can protect you. If you bang them around a lot (or store them in such a way that they might get banged around by heavy neighbors like a large cast iron fry pan), then there's a risk they could be damaged BEFORE you crash and therefore may not offer you the same kind of protection you'd get (and want) from an undamaged helmet. I hope this makes sense. I'm not in the habit of leaving comments just to scold, but I couldn't help wincing (a lot) each time I saw a helmet tossed around. Thanks for the super long and thorough tour of the rig!

    • @Muckydoo
      @Muckydoo Před 3 lety +2

      @@operationhotshotinc.6887 I think an older trailer would be great if it’s in good condition with no leaks. You would get more space for your money. I’d be worried about the condition of the wiring and the insulation, though. There could be leaks in between the outside and inside shell and the insulation has surely collapsed to the bottom half of the trailer. If you have the money and time for a complete renovation you could probably save money in the long run.

      I was worried about that. I ended up buying a 1957 Airstream Overlander. And no sign of water leaks the floor is in tact and surprisingly the electrical still works , I plugged it in and it took a minute but the fan by the kitchen started to spin and then i plugged in a Shop vac in the airstream and that worked no problem.
      My only question is how long can the original wiring last…?

    • @Muckydoo
      @Muckydoo Před 3 lety +1

    I have had an Airstream for about 4 years now, had one before about 20 years ago and loved it. Mine is only 20' long, I like the lay out, wish I had gone the 23' route. What I love about mine is that is so easy to tow. I live in Idaho and it seems like it is always windy on the highways here, never an issue for me. I may have the dinette reupholstered, just because I prefer the ultra leather and I want better cushions. Mine is a 2014 and that wasn't available in the 20' then, I bought it used. More than enough storage for me and my dog.

    That "1/4 pan" is really a 1/4 sheet pan. In the industry, cake tiers are made on large flat baking sheets, and those sheets are divided in to 3/4 sheets, 1/2 sheets, and 1/4 sheets. I have a couple of each except the full sheets because they won't fit in anything but a commercial oven. They're great for sticking something in the oven that might spill, or has a soft bottom, etc

I removed the bumper myself. Its only held in by 4 bolts. The light weight bumper(< 10 lbs) is poundable (if that is a word) and maybe malleable it a better word. I used a 3 lb hand-held sledge hammer, 3 blocks of wood, and a good eye to see how you can pound it out(bend it into the original shape). It took me 15-20 minutes...I’m perfectionist, that’s why it took so long. I did it all right at the rig site, and my concrete driveway was the “shop table”. In my opinion you do not need a new bumper. It can be done by you or your son. It’s great therapy to rid any “frustration and anger issues”. I took photos of the process. If you are interest I shall send them. By the way I enjoyed the RV tour...its a keeper. You guys are great and so is Charlie!

    Oh my gosh Trish I am so glad when Mark was pulling stuff out of the back of the rig you did not edit much. It was hilarious laughed the whole time. When our daughter was younger before sports started on weekends we camped in a permanent site with a travel trailer. We left it parked there for the summer and I learned how to be efficient at setting up and down, to make it more enjoyable to just run down for the weekend. One of the things I would tell people is less is more. We would also go down for our vacation weeks and enjoyed being alone and would look for fun things to do there. We stayed at Pioneer Campground in Wabasha Minnesota across the Mississippi river from Alma Wisconsin. People would throw lawn chairs by the dumpster when they left and the aluminum frames were fine but the strapping may have worn out or been burnt by the campfire. We collected those chairs and bought new strapping at Kmart for cheap and would fix them during the week and hand them out the next weekend to friends and neighbors. All it took was a slightly larger screw and the strapping and waala. I have some fond memories and so do my husband/daughter of the fun we had. Love watching the channel.... Hugs from Minnesota

    My wife is the one who got me hooked on KYD.
    Number 1- what a brandable name.. you literally couldn’t have picked a better name.
    Number 2- I think you guys are the best vloggers I have ever seen on youtube, and I’ve watched a lot of different things.
    She has also shown me other Rvers.. and you guys just have it figured out.
    Absolutely love your “good music” finding skills, I have shazamed a few tracks from yall.
    I just wanted to share my love for you guys .. Love your vibes, your family, your fun looking marriage and you really make me feel like I’m visiting whatever place you show us.
    Thank you. I hope me and my wife get the chance to sit by a fire with y’all one day and soak up some of that “eternally in good mood” aura you guys were blessed with.

    Oh my gosh, I laughed out loud when you started pulling out all that stuff from the front storage compartment. We have a 27’ flying cloud and all our 5th wheel friends can’t believe how much storage we have. It’s very efficient. We don’t full time, but do leave for 3-4 months at a time and we have plenty of storage for two seasons of clothing. We smash our insulated coats in the Space Saver bags and store under the bed. Thanks for the great videos. You two are so entertaining and I look forward to watching every Sunday.

    As a kid RVing back in the 70-80, an Airstream was something we would find a way to have the owner show use the inside. Alway loved them and it is interesting that they have changed, but remained the same over the decades. Today I am on my fifth rig but have never purchased an Airstream. The line you said about being great for someone 6 feet or less is so true, you see I am 6 feet 8 inches so until Airstream make a tunnel in the roof or the floor, I will never own one. Still love them and I remain hopeful this might come true someday. Loved your tour and by the way, your enthusiasm is also the same as I experienced when we got an Airstream tour as a kid. Even that has not changed with time.

    I love the construction of the Airstreams and with two children I was goi g to go with the 30BH as well. It’s just so cool, but I couldn’t justify the difference in cost between the 27 BHSS Winabego and the Airstream, quality wise the Airstream has no match but if your just using it for one weekend a month and one long vacation a year I couldn’t feel good about paying three times as much.
    We also are sailors. We sail a 39’ Beneteau and cruise sailing teaches you how to organize and pack, just like the Airstream. I’ve been following you guys since 2017. Love your travels. See you out there some day. Maybe you will recognize us.

    Thanks for the detailed tour. Loved it even though I’ve had my AS for three years. I’m sorry about your back bumper. Mine got crunched as well, but that’s a whole other story. I also put chocks and blocks in my bumper on travel days. When I’m parked, I put my weight distribution bars and sway bar in there. Keeps them more or less clean and out of the way. I also use the next size up white IKEA boxes for my clothes in the upper locker. What I do differently though is that I roll all of my pants and tops and place them vertically in the containers. I can get 19-20 tops in one container and all of my pants in another, with socks etc. in the third. Anyway, just some ideas. Thanks for yours!

    My storage hack was born out of necessity because of having a house in WA and AZ and two motor-homes and make about 6 trips a year back and forth. I have a large laundry basket with Jeans in the bottom socks underwear T shirts all stacked. When I move in to the motorhome, most of my daily cloths are in the basket which fit right in the closet then I move it back in to the house - back in to a motorhome and back in to my house over and over again. Any item of clothes I use get laundered and put back in the basket so at a moments notice I just pick up the basket and I have plenty of clothes for the trip or till we get to the other house and back.
